We'll add the Cable Ratings into the table below as soon as we have them. The missing ratings are due to the fact that their ratings are out of the Top 100. They will be entered into the Ratings Database when they get released by the Networks later.

So, SO proud of Supernatural and its fans! I love this fandom and take pride in being a member of the SPNFamily :)
ReplyDeleteMy argument still stands.
ReplyDeleteA subpar episode of SPN can get high numbers because SPN has the regular audience for the numbers to fluctuate any way under any circumstances. In this case, that you're following a good episode, it is normal that people would tune in with the hope for the trent to keep up for a second week in a row.
In the end, the point is by now people will tune in just because it's Supernatural. It's not about being "lucky" it's about being established.
Reign and TTP don't have that pedigree behind them. Even good episodes will fall on the wayside, because as shows they are still in the process of establishing themselves.
Reign and TTP not having a pedigree behind them or the fact that they are new shows is not a valid argument for their low ratings. Remember shows like Vampire Diaries, Gossip girl and even supernatural when thy first started? they all had higher ratings than they do now (did for gossip girl) that they are "established." So i don't understand your point.
ReplyDeleteRather happy Ravenwood is tanking as bad as it is, it pulled 1.5 mil and a 0.4 rating. :D
ReplyDeleteActually shows being new is quite a good argument for lower ratings. Unless a new series is considered a hit, new shows rarely manage consistency. Dips in ratings throughout the year are common.
ReplyDeleteUnlike SPN, TVD and GG, Reign and TTP are struggling new shows. They are doing okay, decent even by CW standards (especially I believe Reign has been holding up quite well).
However they haven't blown up in their popularity or their numbers.
As such lower ratings here and there, even for what might be considered good episodes is not a head scratching factor.
And I do recall SPN wasn't doing that hot in its first season. It was a bit of a bubble show back in S1, and it wasn't sure it would make the cut from The WB to the CW when the merger happened.
This is what i don't understand, they are both good shows. So Gossip girls apparently had a wider appeal than both those shows? I mean, GG was a straight up chick show, and these two appeal to both, yet GG still beat them in numbers.
ReplyDeleteYes. Ravenwsood sucks. As a big fan of abc family i am ashamed to say, i couldn't make it past the first episode. Has to be their worst show out right now.
ReplyDeleteThat they might be good shows doesn't automatically give them a pass for high numbers though…
ReplyDeleteIf you're looking for the "why aren't they scoring higher in the ratings?" then you're looking for the answer as to "why have so many great shows throughout the history of television been canceled?".
And that my friend is the TV business eternal unanswerable question.
My only response to your query is: Go figure…your guess is as good as mine. *shrugs*
My argument was SPN has passed the point where it has to worry about hitting the required number. The quality of each specific episode and the responding rating is no longer that big a factor. When you've been on the air for 9 years you're not "lucky". You are reliable and you will bring eyeballs to the screen.
For new shows just barely 15 episodes in that is unfortunately not the case.
I may be bitter but I am good at it. I stopped watching any ABC Family programming last year when they cancelled yet another show I liked on a cliffhanger (The Lying Game). So I am also glad. :)
ReplyDeleteNine season and on a CW TV, Veteran SPN is doing reeeeeeeeaally good. I'm proud of Sam and Dean :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't know if CW would allow this show to finish on season 10...this is one of the top show on CW, right. Ahwesome!
I'm not comparing, i'm just surprised how two shows that are getting better are declining. While supernaturals subpar episode increased. I just feel it was a weak episode compared to last weeks, last weeks deserved a 1.2 rating.
ReplyDeleteI don't think "lucky" is the right word. SPN has held its own and proven itself over and over and over for the better part of the last decade. It is unfair for everyone to compare Reign and TTP with a veteran like SPN.
ReplyDeleteSupernatural is still powerful after 9 years on air..Good Job!
ReplyDeleteSupernatural is one hell of a lucky CW show. Its subpar episode gives it a season high while shows like Reign and TTP struggle to give better episodes than the next and their rating poorly, going down gradually. Its really funny to me(unlucky shows maybe). Anyway, I personally think that last week’s supernatural episode deserved better ratings. That had to be one of if not the best episode of the season.
