Watching a censored version of a Starz show doesn't do it justice. Now, seeing that both versions are out there, I wonder which one gets pirated for international viewers (like me).

my thoughts were: Great start to a new series. I love the opening. I will like the show.
Things that bother me, but don't really care either way, are all the back stabbing in all the direction. Well not really back stabbing but you get the gist, but again its pirates, and as such I don't mind it. Also Trying to figure out tho lay my hope in, One would assume Flint is the main dude, but then again the Fake Cook could be also, as he just happens to get his hands on the key to the treasure plus a female partner. But so far I liked watching Flint more and his new confident who knows his secret of the fake page.
Also wanting the Merchant empire to be hers Girl lead wasn't bad either. I like her, then what she and that other dude had a past, interesting. He seem likes he will make a nice bad guy. anyway good stuff
For those that have seen the full uncensored episode - was it me or were some characters like out a Disney pirate movie and some out of a soft porn movie and then others from a gritty drama. Quite an odd mix but overall I liked it and will watch again.
I was disappointed to be honest. A pirate show on Starz sounds awesome! The trailers made it look real gritty & piratey.....it is far from it. Way too dry & slow, pirates are adventure not politics & intrigue. Not to mention all the sex scenes felt so forced that it was cringe worthy to sit through. Really not a good pilot ep in my opinion.
- Better acting than I expected. The only notable exception being Jessica Parker Kennedy's regrettable accent. - They didn't overdo it on the sex. There were only two brief sex scenes and they didn't seem porn-ish. That's a step up from most Starz programs.
- The writing was also better than I expected. This being an hour-long pilot made for some spots that dragged the episode a bit but overall the plot was interesting and kept my attention. There is actually a decent, somewhat intricate story here and it's not just mindless swashbuckling dreck. - Some of the characters seem a little dry but are well-defined for the most part. The dialogue could use some work though. - Toby Stephens is definitely the highlight here although I'm not sure about the character's direction at the end of the pilot.
The bottom line: Top to bottom, this show is more solid than most Starz originals and for me it's worth a three-episode trial run.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Aww no comments. I was hoping to read what people thought.
ReplyDeleteWe only posted it 30 mins ago :) It's an hour long lol
