Dame Angela, who played amateur sleuth Jessica Fletcher in the original series, told the BBC she was "terribly pleased and relieved" by the news.
"I knew it was a terrible mistake," she said. "I didn't want to sully the memory."
She added: "Octavia Spencer is a superb actress. She had no business being put into a situation that she couldn't win.

this might sound respectless but Mrs. Lansburry, as invested as she might have been into her show, has no business completely shooting down the idea of a remake. I loved her on the show but ESPECIALLY with 'Murder, She wrote' a remake makes sense and feels 'in the past' enough to give it a shot.
ReplyDeleteI don't get why one would do a Spiderman reboot if the last movie only is 5 years old BUT I do get why you would do a remake to a 80s/90s show.
And I kind get the 'why didn't they cast me' vibe from her quotes there.
I would totally support a Baywatch, Knight Rider and Get Smart reboot. Why ? Because adapting source material to current times is in no way wrong.

^ I can't help it but that sounds incredibly mean spirited towards the people that worked on the remake
I agree with Ms. Lansbury. The remake was a terrible idea, and I'm sure more people than me and Lansbury feel this way. I didn't even watch much of the original, so I think I can be more objective than a serious fan of the show would be. Remakes/reboots should only be considered if its truly an update to the modern time period AND can be done better, or at least as well as, the original.
