ABC orders Four More Drama Pilots

The Astronaut Wives Club, from Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire and Michael London’s Groundswell Prods., was initially eyed as a potential limited series. Based on Lily Koppel’s best-selling novel published last summer, it was written by Savage in her first TV writing effort since co-creating Gossip Girl with Schwartz.  Set in the 1960s with a modern feel, The Astronaut Wives Club tells the real story of the women who stood beside some of the biggest heroes in American history during the height of the space race. Savage, Schwartz and Fake Empire’s president of television Len Goldstein executive produce with London. This is Fake Empire’s first pilot order under the company’s overall deal at ABC Studios.

The untitled Richard LaGravenese project is set in New York and revolves around the love and rivalry between two equally matched, powerful socialites who play out their obsessive attraction and seduction of each other through their manipulation of others. LaGravenese exec produces with Erwin Stoff, Ilene Staple and Wren Arthur.

Agatha (fka untitled Tom Donaghy), from Mark Gordon Co., is a character-driven procedural about a former convict turned big city criminologist who is brought in to help local police crack a case involving a perplexing disappearance. The chief detective she’s been hired to help is her father – and they haven’t talked in fifteen years. Donaghy wrote the script and is executive producing with the Mark Gordon Co.’s Gordon and Nick Pepper as well as Michael McDonald, in his first pilot order as a producer after serving as head of drama for the studio. It’s been a good day for the Mark Gordon Co., which scored two pilot orders (Agatha at ABC and comedy Fifth Wheel at NBC) as well as a series order (USA comedy Benched) today. The company has another pilot order at ABC for a Dean Georgaris drama.

Warriors, from Keyser and Mandeville, follows the best and brightest of active duty military doctors and nurses as they practice trailblazing medicine on critically wounded warriors returning home from Afghanistan, on military families and veterans, as well as administering to Washington’s government elite. Stephen Baigelman, who was original writer on the project, is expected to stay on.

  2. Gotta say, absolutely none of these sound even remotely interesting or unlike 50 other shows I could watch right now. Oh ABC, let's not have a repeat of this season shall we? Take everyone in your studio who reads, comments on or otherwise influences pilot selection, and mass terminate their employment. Hire fresh new folks who actually have taste and basic reading comprehension (to help them filter out the 50 Law and Order scripts set in different locals, etc) and we should be good to go ;P

  3. Last I heard, Dec 24th, 2013 TMI article, it's being considered, but thats all. No plans, etc at this point. Would doubt it for the 2014-2015 season as that would leave little prep time at this point. Maybe 2015-2016 season could be a possibility.

  5. im with you!....
The second one looks like a show that could fit perfectly in the CW set in new york two lovers that are enemies at the same time and will do anything to destroy each other only to get together at the end! if that doest say CW i dont know what will!

  6. yeah this sounds alot like CW stuff to me too. This is ABC, with their ratings, they will be fighting them for 5th place soon enough. Might as well try to program the same ;P

  7. These soundslike more of the boring and bland crime/hospital soaps that ABC likes to fill up on every once in a while

  10. The Astronaut Wives Club might be ok but not sure a period drama would work for ABC look what happened with Pan AM

  11. I agree ... ABC was one the top networks with lost, greys, DH ... Now it's getting worse n worse. Pilot season each year gets worse for all channels. There is only one new show on all the networks I have stuck with this year.

  12. I don't think you have watched CW this season, they have a lot more sci-fi shows now, which is my cup of tea. ;)

  13. Honestly, none of these sound remotely interesting to me. Maybe I can change my mind when the trailers arrive but I doubt it. It's crazy to think this is the same network that gave me Once Upon a Time, Revenge and Scandal two seasons ago.

    Nothing interesting.

The Astronaut Wives Club - I should've stopped reading on "Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage"

Richard LaGravenese project - another soap

Agatha - this premise was used lots of times

Warriors - nothing to keep me interested

  17. Supernatural is my favorite series and the only show I make a point of watching live. I do watch more CW shows than any other network, but none of the shows listed interest me. I usually give a show at least one look, tried Rake on Fox this week, did not make it thru the whole ep.

  18. Agent Carter or bust.
