My favorite show is Breaking Bad, and I guess the episode I rewatch the least is 1.05 Gray Matter, but I feel weird calling it the worst since it's still a really great episode. (Others might argue it's Fly, but I love the hell out of Fly :P)
I will get hated for this but the worst episode of Person of Interest for me is when Shaw was first introduced in "Relevance",
For Chicago Fire, the worst episode would be "Rhymes With Shout" as it marked the first time I got annoyed with a character in the show as initially, I really tremendously loved each one of them. I'm talking about Shay. Yes, Dawson's reaction to the suicide case might worsen the situation, but Shay's irresponsible behaviors really irritated me that episode. I mean, what the hell was she thinking giving the key to her fake girlfriend?? I also got annoyed by Kelly when he kept covering for Shay and when Boden told on Kelly about whether he ever got tired of covering for her, I was like, "snap!".
Glee: Every episode after season 3.
Once Upon a Time: "Selfless, Brave, and True" because they decided to opt for easy resolution of making August a child again, thus killing off adult August. I loved that character, you know...
Charmed: "Hell Hath No Fury". It's not "worst" as in really bad. It's the worst episode because no character has ever made me cry as much as Piper in that episode when she confronted Prue's death in her tomb. I was haunted by the scene in the following week. Of course this would also mean that Person of Interest's "The Crossing" would also be the "worst" because Carter's death made me feel depressed for the whole week.
Ugly Betty: The series finale only because it was not a proper finale.
Agree that Stranger in A Strange Land is the worst episode of Lost, such a pointelss episode. X Files, the final 2 parter Supernatural, either route 666 or the recent debacle that was Slumber Party Buffy, Once More With Feeling (I hate musicals) Fringe, sadly most of the final season Prison Break, final episode
I hate to say this since I've loved HIMYM from the very first episode, but this season is horrible (there were a couple of good ones, but the idea of having the whole season at a wedding is just not working). Hopefully it gets better in the second half. As for the last episode - For the life of me I can't figure out how Robin got into the "office" without realising she's at an ice rink and not a laser tag.
Supernatural - Bitten (boring plot, shaky camera-work and three truly hateable characters of the week combined to make this my least favourite episode of a generally excellent show) and Season 7, Time for a Wedding (this is mostly because of Becky. I hate her with the fire of a thousand suns. It's better than Bitten, but that is about all that can be said for it).
Doctor Who - Love & Monsters (while the Rose Tyler years of the show were my least favourite anyway, this episode really stood out as one to skip: while the show has produced some amazing episodes focused on secondary characters - See 'Blink' for elucidation - this is not one of them. Paltry effort).
Grimm - Mr. Sandman (I'll be honest, this is mostly because of the truly horrific Wesen they had that week, the only Grimm episode that has truly turned my stomach! Also, it loses points for a lack of continuity later on, as Nick appears to have retained some things such as super hearing, but they're never touched upon again).
Arrow - Crucible (This suffers from having one of the most laughably ridiculous villains I've ever seen on TV! Just could not take it seriously at all.)
Ha, yes!! :P Personally though, I think people's appreciation of the episode depends on how they watched the entire show. I can imagine that the episode might be slightly frustrating if you were watching the show on a week by week basis, expecting a continuation of the storyline but get a 'filler' episode instead so you have to wait another week for it to continue, whereas I've marathoned the first four seasons so I think in that aspect I could appreciate it more.
I agree with you, but it was my understanding that that was implied to be as a result of his time under the influence of Baron Samedi's zombie compound, not as a result of the 'Mr. Sandman' events.
The Walking Dead- Live Bait. I have never been here for The Governor and did not care about him, what's his been doing or anything of the like. Didn't care for Dead Weight either, but it was better than Live Bait, imo.
Agree with everyone that Lost's worst episode is SIASL, but I didn't like Fire and Water very much either.
Grimm: Kiss of the Muse. I really didn't need to concern myself more yet with Nick and Juliette's romantic future. Didn't need this Muse to complicate matters even worse.
The Big Bang Theory: The Workplace Proximity. Sheldon is so awful to Amy (even more than usual) that her not breaking up with him is just pathetic.
Mcleods Daughters around the last episodes. The way it was written, Marcus gets back together with Ingrid and he dumpes Grace was just awful and ruined the finale for me. I get it made more sense, but the writing was at its worst.
Haven: the last one, When the Bough Breaks. I hated it - it was a great season, and now this :( Breaking Bad: Gray Matter (it wasn't THAT bad, but in the BrBa universe, it's the worst for me). Mad Men: A draw between 'Christmas Waltz' Kinsey's story and fat Betty from 'Tea Leaves'.
The Walking Dead: most of season 2; The Suicide King (the first one with Lori the Ghost).
I think Gray Matter is probably my second or third favorite after Ozymandias and Phoenix! That pillow talk scene just gets to me every time, and it's the first time we really get some backstory about Walt. The B-plot with Jesse and Badger is not as interesting though.
I think it has a few really great scenes (the pillow talk scene amongst them!) but on a whole it doesn't do much for me (compared to other episodes) and I can't really explain why. :P Kind of says something about the quality of this show though, that certain episodes can have such varying reactions :P
Definitely! Even my least favorite episode ''Over'' (aka Walt Gets Obsessed With Fixing The House) has that amazing ''Stay out of my territory'' scene at the end... Or Walt trying to be a ''cool dad'' by giving Junior way too much to drink, which says so much about him and his relationship with Hank.
Hmm, Chuck- Chuck versus the Curse, Avatar- The Great Divide, Dexter- Remember the Monsters (through all of season 8 sucked), Fringe- Unearthed, Grimm- Kiss of the Muse and Sherlock- The Hounds of Baskerville.
Lost - Probably Stranger in a Strange Land. However, Fire + Water is a contender, and for some reason I don't really remember, I really hated the episode Recon. (I haven't rewatched Season 6 in a while, but I remember that being my least favorite episode of the season.)
White Collar: Pulling Strings (I am still trying to forget that the episode exists...the main characters, Peter and Neal, are apart from each other for the whole episode...while Peter is stuck in some sort of sitcom, Neal is busy to rekindle his relationship with version 3.1 of Sara Ellis, who suddenly has an ex-finance which was never mentioned before, and somewhere in-between is a very convoluted case...urgh!)
Grimm: Happily Ever Aftermath (Hate, hate, hate it! The writers should have bothered to read the actual Grimm fairy tale before making this episode, which seems to be based on a very negative idea what the Cinderella (Perrault! Not Grimm!) version is about. Never mind that it takes nearly ten minutes before the main character even turn up on screen, because the episode is so busy with the utterly unlikable guest characters. The only good thing is that nearly all of them are dead by the end of the episode)
Sherlock: The Blind Banker...though in this case, worst is relative. I would take this one over most regular episodes of any other TV show any day. The Mentalist: Red John (Nearly 5 and a half season and that's what the writers have to offer? "That's the villain, now he is dead, don't even think about if the clues up to this point fit or not or how he managed to be so successful"? Think again, CBS)
With the other shows (if they didn't jump the shark after three seasons either way), they are either more or less on an equal level concerning the episodes, or have full seasons which pretty much suck, so it is impossible to pick a "worst".
I agree with your assessment about Season 7, Time for a Wedding, but I didn't find any of the three "main" characters of Bitten to be hateable. They responded just like you would expect irresponsible teenagers/early 20's kids to act when confronted with knowledge of the supernatural for the first time. I guess that's one of the reasons I didn't dislike the episode. I always really like seeing that line being crossed where the uninitiated finally discover what's really out there. That's a big part of the reason I love Season 3 as much as I do. Bella and her plot lines opened up an entire new world: those who know about the supernatural but use and abuse it to their advantage rather than trying to kill it off like the hunters do.
Chuck: Chuck Vs The Mask worst episode and Chuck Vs The Goodbye and Chuck Vs The Fake Name. Mask disrespected shippers, Goodbye disrespected the show, the characters, and Sarah by taking her life with her husband chuck and her new family, Fake Name showed Sarah giving something real when Chuck asked her to someone she just met.
The episode was about Juliet being put on trial for killing Danny in order to let Kate and Sawyer escape Hydra Island, and Jack trying to convince the Others to spare her. Then the flashbacks were about Jack getting his tattoos.
The episode is mostly hated for its flashback storyline. It seemed entirely unnecessary as the origin of Jack's tattoos just weren't that important and not a question that very many people thought needed an answer. Plus a lot of people really dislike the actress that played Achara. But the episode is also derided for bringing up a lot of things that are never brought up again in the show like the Others' sheriff, Juliet's branding, the Others' burial at sea tradition, etc. They never needed to be brought up again since they didn't really raise any new, unanswered questions, but they didn't answer any questions either and seemed entirely unnecessary.
Basically it just felt like a waste of an episode. The only thing of any plot importance to the show as a whole that happened was Jack and the Others returning to the main island. And this is also where flashback fatigue really seemed to start hitting many members of the audience the hardest.
There's also some who complain about the episode because the promo material for the episode said that three major mysteries would be answered in the episode, but that was an exaggeration at best.

Person of Interest - ‘Relevance’ Beauty and the Beast (1989) (all of season three). Moonlighting (when we found out that Cybil hated Bruce..from then on..) The last show of Saint Elsewhere The 'Bobby' shower scene from Dallas. The X-files with the brothers and the mom ..ewwwww. (Home) I hated the way 'Magnum' ended!! Didn't like the Closer finale. Lost: anything with Ana Lucia..just saying. But loved Michael Emerson!
No argument here! :D It's just... I didn't necessarily need 40 minutes of Walt getting rid of the stuff. :p I get why it was necessary, but it was also very boring haha!
I suppose I can understand the dislike for 'Love and Monsters', but I then again I can also understand the writer's need to present a theme that was important to fully understanding the way the seconds series' finale was presented. It offers an in-depth look at the aftermath of the way the Doctor crashes into people's lives and sets them aflame with curiousity and wonder and how they try to cope with that. Contrast how the characters found the most fulfilling sort of happiness when they attempted to get on with their lives rather than when they forced to become detectives by demand of the 'baddie of the week.' It also offered a rather heartbreaking look at Jackie and her situation or at least a glimpse of it. And of course it was meant to pair up with Elton's message at the end; the Doctor and Rose blaze into people lives but don't suffer the burn for it, but there's always the chance that one day they will and then they'll be forced to wake up and stop treating everything like it's a game.
Fear Her was the episode with the torch and the child possessed by a young alien right? Aww, I actually liked the one. There was a lot of adorable characterisation going on there. Or at the very least, the characters were allowed to stand back and take a breather, allowed to play with each other the way they can't always do with a more 'serious' episode. I consider 'The Unicorn and the Wasp' to be another one of these.
However I do agree with your opinion on 'The End of Time.' That was just straight-up awful. Although I also really hated the finale of series six as well. The RIver Song storyline started off so promising and then just turned into this horrific mess of an inconsistent character being brainwashed into revolving her exisitance around a man and then 'choosing' him when it was obvious there she had never really been given the chance to do something different. And yeah, I feel kinda bad saying that because the actress looks like she enjoyed the role immensely.
Too bad Bela was killed off for disagreeing with the 'gospel word' of Dean and Sam! Which was a pity; I enjoyed her perspective on the supernatural world and I liked that she had the gumption to stand by her opinion that she was no worse than a hunter, at least from an ethical stand-point. I would have liked to have seen more of that. Just think, the auction involving Kevin and Mrs Tran might have gone a bit smoother (or not!) if she was there. She probably had both feet set firmly within that sort of world.
Supernatural - The Girl Next Door - I wouldn't say the episode was 'bad' per say, it just left a horrid taste in my mouth. I never thought I would see the day when one of the main leads was transformed into someone's own 'Yellow-eyed demon.' I thought that role would be firmly left to John with the way he killed off the ghouls' father so that they took revenge on his son Adam and his mother, back in season five. But, well, congratulations Dean. I guess if a kitsune teenager turns up years later with an axe to grind, he won't have any reason to whine about it. Or even have the right to be angry about it.
Doctor Who - The End of Time, both parts and the Series Six finale. I wish I had the energy to pick apart why I disliked them both so much but I really don't, I'm sorry. It would require a re-watch and I really don't want to do that to myself.
Supernatural - Taxi Driver - ie the straw that broke this veiwer's back. Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Buffy vs. Dracula - not only was the story lame but it was the beginning of the end since it introduced Dawn Sliders - The Exodus, Part 2 - Trading Arturo for Maggie was a huge mistake
Smallville: Smallville had 10 seasons so there are bound to be a few 'not so great' episodes, but these ones stuck out as so horrible I haven't re-watched since they first aired: Ageless, Fanatic, Tomb, Wrath (and the majority of season 7), Bulletproof, Power, Requiem, and Collateral.
Lost: Stranger In A Strange Land One Tree Hill: We Three (My Echo, My Shadow and Me) Grey's Anatomy: Somebody That I Used To Know..and sadly most of the other s10 episodes too. HIMYM has quite a few too..can't really remember all their names but Zoo or False, Burning Beekeeper etc come to mind.. Homeland: Tower of David
Fringe: Unearthed - there's a reason they originally decided to scrap the episode. Fox should've left it underground. And especially because they aired it at least a season later than originally intended, it was just confusing (characters alive and well who had recently died, etc).
Homeland: Tower of David - That episode was just painful to watch. It wasn't necessarily that it was bad…but I didn't in any way enjoy it…and I just felt very depressed afterwards.
Once Upon a Time: Selfless, Brave and True - It bothered me to no end…turning August back into a child with no memory of his past misdeeds or his one selfless act…in 5 seconds they completely erased any character growth not to mention erased the character himself…and personally I don't see how that's redemption.
The Walking Dead: the season 4 episodes that focused entirely on the governor…I was curious what happened to him after the end of last season, but they could have shown it between what was going on at the prison. I don't know why they needed to dedicate 2 whole episodes solely to his storyline.
i think it was something i was not expecting. i was naive enough to think it would all reset and have a happy ending for all the characters, but yeah that's life and the hard truth. i dont think it was the worst episode ever, but it was disappointing.
Supernatural: I had to go with Clash of the Titans episode (Is that even the title of the episode?) It was terrible, I try to each episode a chance but that one, boy I wasn't even paying attention to anything. I also can probably never watch again are Bitten and Man's Best Friend with Benefits. I just can't watch those episode - terrible. There are probably others that I really dislike but at the moment, those three come to mind.
Monk: I know Monk is an older show but I love it except for two episodes. Mr. Monk Goes to the Circus and Mr. Monk Takes His Medicine. The Circus one is just because I freaked out when I was kid (I was like 9/10 years old when that episode came on) when the elephant crushed the man's head. I can never watch the episode again. And Mr. Monk Takes His Medicine - I just can't bring myself to rewatch it - I like Monk's small changes in each episode but that over the top!
Sherlock: The Blind Banker, it's not a bad episode, it isn't. I just don't like it. The only parts I even liked of that episode was basically the ending. I don't really watch that episode when I marathon Sherlock anymore.
Castle: This isn't a bad episode, when it first came on I loved it but now I've seen it so much times. It's like they only repeat this episode every time I find Castle to watch. It's the episode where he and Beckett investigate his ex-girlfriend's dead bridesmaid or was it maid of honor? I've seen this episode over 50 times and I groan every time its on. It's not terrible, I've just grown to really dislike this episode.
There are probably a couple of episodes I think are the worst in Vampire Diaries and Arrow but at the moment, I can't remember. There are probably other shows I'm missing but I can't really think of any. I try not to dislike episodes, I always try and rewatch them and find something else to enjoy within that episode.
I think Kiss of the Muse in itself is not that bad...just the fact that it aired towards the end of an utterly annoying story-arc dragged the episode down. In itself, I actually quite liked it. I just wasn't in the mood for even more delay for Juliette finally becoming part of the group.
Sorry, but that is not true...the super hearing appeared a couple of times since then. Most recently in the last two episodes, once when he was able to hear the hidden little boy and beforehand when he heard the girl who was watching them. I consider Mr. Sandman one of the best episodes of season 2, even though I have a phobia of getting hurt at the eyes...the thing truly terrified me. But that just means that it was very effective.
Nope, they are just more obvious about it now, most likely because a lot of people in the audience missed the more subtle moments beforehand, like when he heard someone sneaking around in the Vulcanalis episode.
And noooooo, Charmed is a classic! I think, and it's my humble opinion, that Charmed got better right after Prue died. Until now I rewatched some episodes. I will never get tired of this show.
Friends - The one with the embryos, The one where no one's ready, The one with the football/ HIMYM - The Slutty Pumpkin Returns/ New Girl - Bells (maybe not the worst, but that is the one tha came to mind) /Scrubs - seasons 8 e 9.
Yeah, I can imagine that being disappointing if you went into the finale thinking that. But the show had made it pretty clear with its rules that an alternate timeline couldn't be created, and episode 5 of the last season showed us that flash-sideways Jack had island Jack's body, which was evidence that the flash-sideways were actually flash-forwards of some sort. So the evidence was there, but I can see how you might miss it.
The Walking Dead-Internment (season 4 is ok so far, EXCEPT FOR THAT LAST EPISODE!) but that episode was a complete bore. Doctor WHo- cold war (season 7, part 2) very boring and just not very rememberable
Well, Obscura Lupa over at The Guy with the Glasses decided to review all seasons...but I guess you might not like her opinion. I liked the first seasons because the relationship between the sisters was still the centre of it, even though the stories tended to be on the stupid side. Later on, it was just a mess.
I don't love Stranger in a Strange Land, at all, but to me Fire and Water is still, BY FAR, Lost's greatest sign! I hated that episode, it's the only episode I have trouble rewatching.
Somewhere on this poll Natalie Maes made the point that it makes a difference whether one watches a show week by week or by marathon. I think you're right that the episode was just frustrating for we who wanted the plot to move along, already. But in itself, it wasn't that bad.
Can you explain to me why Relevance was bad for you? I've just watched it and Proteus and the latter is far worse - a closed circle mystery with a bunch of boring characters and an obvious killer.
This is just my opinion so you may or may not agree. I hate relevance because I hate an episode where the writers made an assumption that just because an episode is largely dedicated to a new character, the audience will love that character. I really thought I watched the wrong show when it was only Shaw from the beginning til end. I honestly didn't see what the fuss Shaw was about except that she's the female version of Reese, so technically she didn't bring anything new to the show. So, when the show progressed, I grew to really dislike Shaw because Reese practically had little to do now Shaw could do what he can do, so many of the time, Reese was put in the background. For example, in one episode, I remember Reese was asked to wait in a building while Shaw was out chasing the person of interest. So, as the result, we saw most of Shaw and less of Reese.
I love Carter because she's the moral/law side of the team, Fusco because he's the connection to the bad side of the show, Finch because he's the computer guy, and Reese because he's the action guy one. They complement each other. But suddenly Shaw entered and since she didn't offer anything new, she was asked to just replace Reese in most of the times. Also, as a result of Shaw's appearance, Fusco got less and less screentime, which was bad because he's a fantastic character (thank God he got a major role in the last 3 episodes this season).
Also, another reason why I hate Relevance/Shaw is because why would you introduce a new female character when you already have Zoe, which was a 1000 times more awesome character than Shaw? Zoe was cool and delightful, and she's the feminine female of the show since Carter is quite tough. And the more important point is, Zoe offered something new, she's the fixer so a lot of things could be written around her characters and she didn't steal screentime from other characters.
So, that's why I hate Shaw. I'm glad that Shaw did not get major roles in the last three episodes.
Well, I haven't seen any of Shaw's episodes besides Relevance yet, but it seems like your hatred is directed solely at Shaw and has nothing to do with the plot of the episode itself.
Yep. We were shown that flash-sideways Jack had a relatively fresh appendectomy scar, which came from the surgery he had on the island. There was also the neck cut thing, but we couldn't have known that was an island injury until the finale anyway.

hmm okay, i see it now, but still wouldnt have placed it as an afterlife. one of the themes of the show was man of science or faith, and i had assumed after the time-travel bit that the answer was quite science-cy. also being a person of science myself, personally i would have never guessed "afterlife" lol
Well, it we want to get technical, the flash-sideways actually wasn't an afterlife. It's a place your consciousness goes right before you die. (And since consciousness-travel is a science thing in the show, not a faith thing, you could really say that the answer was quite science-y. The only part of it that is faith-y is trying to figure out what was on the other side of the church doors/what that light was that filled the church. Maybe it was electromagnetism, maybe it was heaven, maybe it was just death, plain and simple.)
They even mentioned the flash-sideways universe all the way back in Season 2 when Charlotte Malkin (the daughter of Claire's psychic/the girl who drowned that Eko was told to go investigate) tells Eko about going there when she was "between places".
So really all of the evidence was there for us to be able to figure out what the flash-sideways was ahead of time. I also didn't quite figure it out ahead of time though. I realized it was some sort of flash-forward, but I forgot all about the in-between place mentioned in Season 2 until after the reveal.

I hate to say this since I've loved HIMYM from the very first episode, but this season is horrible (there were a couple of good ones, but the idea of having the whole season at a wedding is just not working). Hopefully it gets better in the second half.

Changed my mind about Supernatural, I forgot the one episode that was so bad I blocked it from my memory - Bitten. The worst episode by a mile.
ReplyDeleteSupernatural - Bitten (boring plot, shaky camera-work and three truly hateable characters of the week combined to make this my least favourite episode of a generally excellent show) and Season 7, Time for a Wedding (this is mostly because of Becky. I hate her with the fire of a thousand suns. It's better than Bitten, but that is about all that can be said for it).
ReplyDeleteDoctor Who - Love & Monsters (while the Rose Tyler years of the show were my least favourite anyway, this episode really stood out as one to skip: while the show has produced some amazing episodes focused on secondary characters - See 'Blink' for elucidation - this is not one of them. Paltry effort).
Grimm - Mr. Sandman (I'll be honest, this is mostly because of the truly horrific Wesen they had that week, the only Grimm episode that has truly turned my stomach! Also, it loses points for a lack of continuity later on, as Nick appears to have retained some things such as super hearing, but they're never touched upon again).
Arrow - Crucible (This suffers from having one of the most laughably ridiculous villains I've ever seen on TV! Just could not take it seriously at all.)
I agree 100% with your Supernatural assessment. Worst two episodes by FAR. And that's on a list that includes Bugs and Route 666.
ReplyDeleteHa, yes!! :P Personally though, I think people's appreciation of the episode depends on how they watched the entire show. I can imagine that the episode might be slightly frustrating if you were watching the show on a week by week basis, expecting a continuation of the storyline but get a 'filler' episode instead so you have to wait another week for it to continue, whereas I've marathoned the first four seasons so I think in that aspect I could appreciate it more.

The Walking Dead: most of season 2; The Suicide King (the first one with Lori the Ghost).
I think Gray Matter is probably my second or third favorite after Ozymandias and Phoenix! That pillow talk scene just gets to me every time, and it's the first time we really get some backstory about Walt. The B-plot with Jesse and Badger is not as interesting though.

Or Walt trying to be a ''cool dad'' by giving Junior way too much to drink, which says so much about him and his relationship with Hank.

ReplyDeleteLost - Probably Stranger in a Strange Land. However, Fire + Water is a contender, and for some reason I don't really remember, I really hated the episode Recon. (I haven't rewatched Season 6 in a while, but I remember that being my least favorite episode of the season.)
ReplyDeleteWhite Collar: Pulling Strings (I am still trying to forget that the episode exists...the main characters, Peter and Neal, are apart from each other for the whole episode...while Peter is stuck in some sort of sitcom, Neal is busy to rekindle his relationship with version 3.1 of Sara Ellis, who suddenly has an ex-finance which was never mentioned before, and somewhere in-between is a very convoluted case...urgh!)
ReplyDeleteGrimm: Happily Ever Aftermath (Hate, hate, hate it! The writers should have bothered to read the actual Grimm fairy tale before making this episode, which seems to be based on a very negative idea what the Cinderella (Perrault! Not Grimm!) version is about. Never mind that it takes nearly ten minutes before the main character even turn up on screen, because the episode is so busy with the utterly unlikable guest characters. The only good thing is that nearly all of them are dead by the end of the episode)
Sherlock: The Blind Banker...though in this case, worst is relative. I would take this one over most regular episodes of any other TV show any day.
The Mentalist: Red John (Nearly 5 and a half season and that's what the writers have to offer? "That's the villain, now he is dead, don't even think about if the clues up to this point fit or not or how he managed to be so successful"? Think again, CBS)
With the other shows (if they didn't jump the shark after three seasons either way), they are either more or less on an equal level concerning the episodes, or have full seasons which pretty much suck, so it is impossible to pick a "worst".
I agree with your assessment about Season 7, Time for a Wedding, but I didn't find any of the three "main" characters of Bitten to be hateable. They responded just like you would expect irresponsible teenagers/early 20's kids to act when confronted with knowledge of the supernatural for the first time. I guess that's one of the reasons I didn't dislike the episode. I always really like seeing that line being crossed where the uninitiated finally discover what's really out there. That's a big part of the reason I love Season 3 as much as I do. Bella and her plot lines opened up an entire new world: those who know about the supernatural but use and abuse it to their advantage rather than trying to kill it off like the hunters do.

Mask disrespected shippers, Goodbye disrespected the show, the characters, and Sarah by taking her life with her husband chuck and her new family, Fake Name showed Sarah giving something real when Chuck asked her to someone she just met.
ReplyDeleteThe episode was about Juliet being put on trial for killing Danny in order to let Kate and Sawyer escape Hydra Island, and Jack trying to convince the Others to spare her. Then the flashbacks were about Jack getting his tattoos.
ReplyDeleteThe episode is mostly hated for its flashback storyline. It seemed entirely unnecessary as the origin of Jack's tattoos just weren't that important and not a question that very many people thought needed an answer. Plus a lot of people really dislike the actress that played Achara. But the episode is also derided for bringing up a lot of things that are never brought up again in the show like the Others' sheriff, Juliet's branding, the Others' burial at sea tradition, etc. They never needed to be brought up again since they didn't really raise any new, unanswered questions, but they didn't answer any questions either and seemed entirely unnecessary.
Basically it just felt like a waste of an episode. The only thing of any plot importance to the show as a whole that happened was Jack and the Others returning to the main island. And this is also where flashback fatigue really seemed to start hitting many members of the audience the hardest.
There's also some who complain about the episode because the promo material for the episode said that three major mysteries would be answered in the episode, but that was an exaggeration at best.

I suppose I can understand the dislike for 'Love and Monsters', but I then again I can also understand the writer's need to present a theme that was important to fully understanding the way the seconds series' finale was presented. It offers an in-depth look at the aftermath of the way the Doctor crashes into people's lives and sets them aflame with curiousity and wonder and how they try to cope with that. Contrast how the characters found the most fulfilling sort of happiness when they attempted to get on with their lives rather than when they forced to become detectives by demand of the 'baddie of the week.' It also offered a rather heartbreaking look at Jackie and her situation or at least a glimpse of it. And of course it was meant to pair up with Elton's message at the end; the Doctor and Rose blaze into people lives but don't suffer the burn for it, but there's always the chance that one day they will and then they'll be forced to wake up and stop treating everything like it's a game.
ReplyDeleteFear Her was the episode with the torch and the child possessed by a young alien right? Aww, I actually liked the one. There was a lot of adorable characterisation going on there. Or at the very least, the characters were allowed to stand back and take a breather, allowed to play with each other the way they can't always do with a more 'serious' episode. I consider 'The Unicorn and the Wasp' to be another one of these.
However I do agree with your opinion on 'The End of Time.' That was just straight-up awful. Although I also really hated the finale of series six as well. The RIver Song storyline started off so promising and then just turned into this horrific mess of an inconsistent character being brainwashed into revolving her exisitance around a man and then 'choosing' him when it was obvious there she had never really been given the chance to do something different. And yeah, I feel kinda bad saying that because the actress looks like she enjoyed the role immensely.
Too bad Bela was killed off for disagreeing with the 'gospel word' of Dean and Sam! Which was a pity; I enjoyed her perspective on the supernatural world and I liked that she had the gumption to stand by her opinion that she was no worse than a hunter, at least from an ethical stand-point. I would have liked to have seen more of that. Just think, the auction involving Kevin and Mrs Tran might have gone a bit smoother (or not!) if she was there. She probably had both feet set firmly within that sort of world.
ReplyDeleteSupernatural - The Girl Next Door - I wouldn't say the episode was 'bad' per say, it just left a horrid taste in my mouth. I never thought I would see the day when one of the main leads was transformed into someone's own 'Yellow-eyed demon.' I thought that role would be firmly left to John with the way he killed off the ghouls' father so that they took revenge on his son Adam and his mother, back in season five. But, well, congratulations Dean. I guess if a kitsune teenager turns up years later with an axe to grind, he won't have any reason to whine about it. Or even have the right to be angry about it.

Homeland: Tower of David
Fringe: Unearthed - there's a reason they originally decided to scrap the episode. Fox should've left it underground. And especially because they aired it at least a season later than originally intended, it was just confusing (characters alive and well who had recently died, etc).
ReplyDeleteHomeland: Tower of David - That episode was just painful to watch. It wasn't necessarily that it was bad…but I didn't in any way enjoy it…and I just felt very depressed afterwards.
Once Upon a Time: Selfless, Brave and True - It bothered me to no end…turning August back into a child with no memory of his past misdeeds or his one selfless act…in 5 seconds they completely erased any character growth not to mention erased the character himself…and personally I don't see how that's redemption.
The Walking Dead: the season 4 episodes that focused entirely on the governor…I was curious what happened to him after the end of last season, but they could have shown it between what was going on at the prison. I don't know why they needed to dedicate 2 whole episodes solely to his storyline.
i think it was something i was not expecting. i was naive enough to think it would all reset and have a happy ending for all the characters, but yeah that's life and the hard truth. i dont think it was the worst episode ever, but it was disappointing.
ReplyDeleteSupernatural: I had to go with Clash of the Titans episode (Is that even the title of the episode?) It was terrible, I try to each episode a chance but that one, boy I wasn't even paying attention to anything. I also can probably never watch again are Bitten and Man's Best Friend with Benefits. I just can't watch those episode - terrible. There are probably others that I really dislike but at the moment, those three come to mind.
ReplyDeleteMonk: I know Monk is an older show but I love it except for two episodes. Mr. Monk Goes to the Circus and Mr. Monk Takes His Medicine. The Circus one is just because I freaked out when I was kid (I was like 9/10 years old when that episode came on) when the elephant crushed the man's head. I can never watch the episode again. And Mr. Monk Takes His Medicine - I just can't bring myself to rewatch it - I like Monk's small changes in each episode but that over the top!
Sherlock: The Blind Banker, it's not a bad episode, it isn't. I just don't like it. The only parts I even liked of that episode was basically the ending. I don't really watch that episode when I marathon Sherlock anymore.
Castle: This isn't a bad episode, when it first came on I loved it but now I've seen it so much times. It's like they only repeat this episode every time I find Castle to watch. It's the episode where he and Beckett investigate his ex-girlfriend's dead bridesmaid or was it maid of honor? I've seen this episode over 50 times and I groan every time its on. It's not terrible, I've just grown to really dislike this episode.
There are probably a couple of episodes I think are the worst in Vampire Diaries and Arrow but at the moment, I can't remember. There are probably other shows I'm missing but I can't really think of any. I try not to dislike episodes, I always try and rewatch them and find something else to enjoy within that episode.
Genuinely surprised to see some putting 'Fly' (BrBa) and 'Relevance' (POI) as I consider them to be two of the best from their respective shows.

ReplyDeleteI think Kiss of the Muse in itself is not that bad...just the fact that it aired towards the end of an utterly annoying story-arc dragged the episode down. In itself, I actually quite liked it. I just wasn't in the mood for even more delay for Juliette finally becoming part of the group.
ReplyDeleteSorry, but that is not true...the super hearing appeared a couple of times since then. Most recently in the last two episodes, once when he was able to hear the hidden little boy and beforehand when he heard the girl who was watching them.
ReplyDeleteI consider Mr. Sandman one of the best episodes of season 2, even though I have a phobia of getting hurt at the eyes...the thing truly terrified me. But that just means that it was very effective.
Nope, they are just more obvious about it now, most likely because a lot of people in the audience missed the more subtle moments beforehand, like when he heard someone sneaking around in the Vulcanalis episode.

ReplyDeleteAnd noooooo, Charmed is a classic! I think, and it's my humble opinion, that Charmed got better right after Prue died. Until now I rewatched some episodes. I will never get tired of this show.

ReplyDeleteYeah, I can imagine that being disappointing if you went into the finale thinking that. But the show had made it pretty clear with its rules that an alternate timeline couldn't be created, and episode 5 of the last season showed us that flash-sideways Jack had island Jack's body, which was evidence that the flash-sideways were actually flash-forwards of some sort. So the evidence was there, but I can see how you might miss it.

ReplyDeleteI liked the first seasons because the relationship between the sisters was still the centre of it, even though the stories tended to be on the stupid side. Later on, it was just a mess.

ReplyDeleteI don't love Stranger in a Strange Land, at all, but to me Fire and Water is still, BY FAR, Lost's greatest sign! I hated that episode, it's the only episode I have trouble rewatching.
ReplyDeleteSomewhere on this poll Natalie Maes made the point that it makes a difference whether one watches a show week by week or by marathon. I think you're right that the episode was just frustrating for we who wanted the plot to move along, already. But in itself, it wasn't that bad.

ReplyDeleteCan you explain to me why Relevance was bad for you? I've just watched it and Proteus and the latter is far worse - a closed circle mystery with a bunch of boring characters and an obvious killer.
ReplyDeleteThis is just my opinion so you may or may not agree. I hate relevance because I hate an episode where the writers made an assumption that just because an episode is largely dedicated to a new character, the audience will love that character. I really thought I watched the wrong show when it was only Shaw from the beginning til end. I honestly didn't see what the fuss Shaw was about except that she's the female version of Reese, so technically she didn't bring anything new to the show. So, when the show progressed, I grew to really dislike Shaw because Reese practically had little to do now Shaw could do what he can do, so many of the time, Reese was put in the background. For example, in one episode, I remember Reese was asked to wait in a building while Shaw was out chasing the person of interest. So, as the result, we saw most of Shaw and less of Reese.
ReplyDeleteI love Carter because she's the moral/law side of the team, Fusco because he's the connection to the bad side of the show, Finch because he's the computer guy, and Reese because he's the action guy one. They complement each other. But suddenly Shaw entered and since she didn't offer anything new, she was asked to just replace Reese in most of the times. Also, as a result of Shaw's appearance, Fusco got less and less screentime, which was bad because he's a fantastic character (thank God he got a major role in the last 3 episodes this season).
Also, another reason why I hate Relevance/Shaw is because why would you introduce a new female character when you already have Zoe, which was a 1000 times more awesome character than Shaw? Zoe was cool and delightful, and she's the feminine female of the show since Carter is quite tough. And the more important point is, Zoe offered something new, she's the fixer so a lot of things could be written around her characters and she didn't steal screentime from other characters.
So, that's why I hate Shaw. I'm glad that Shaw did not get major roles in the last three episodes.
Well, I haven't seen any of Shaw's episodes besides Relevance yet, but it seems like your hatred is directed solely at Shaw and has nothing to do with the plot of the episode itself.
ReplyDeleteYep. We were shown that flash-sideways Jack had a relatively fresh appendectomy scar, which came from the surgery he had on the island. There was also the neck cut thing, but we couldn't have known that was an island injury until the finale anyway.

hmm okay, i see it now, but still wouldnt have placed it as an afterlife. one of the themes of the show was man of science or faith, and i had assumed after the time-travel bit that the answer was quite science-cy. also being a person of science myself, personally i would have never guessed "afterlife" lol
ReplyDeleteWell, it we want to get technical, the flash-sideways actually wasn't an afterlife. It's a place your consciousness goes right before you die. (And since consciousness-travel is a science thing in the show, not a faith thing, you could really say that the answer was quite science-y. The only part of it that is faith-y is trying to figure out what was on the other side of the church doors/what that light was that filled the church. Maybe it was electromagnetism, maybe it was heaven, maybe it was just death, plain and simple.)
ReplyDeleteThey even mentioned the flash-sideways universe all the way back in Season 2 when Charlotte Malkin (the daughter of Claire's psychic/the girl who drowned that Eko was told to go investigate) tells Eko about going there when she was "between places".
So really all of the evidence was there for us to be able to figure out what the flash-sideways was ahead of time. I also didn't quite figure it out ahead of time though. I realized it was some sort of flash-forward, but I forgot all about the in-between place mentioned in Season 2 until after the reveal.
Well if they could build a fake office, don't you think they could have built fake hallways as well, and take them apart after she came in?
