  1. I´ve never liked them as a couple.

  2. This show would be so much better without Ted in it.

  3. Considering they explained right off the bat that she isn't the mother, who in their right mind has watched for 9 seasons hoping she would be?
Robin & Barney actually makes sense.

I did, in seasons 1 and 2. But never since.

  6. I liked them as a couple in season 2, but it's has been clear from the beginning that aren't right for each other. So no, I don't root for them.

  7. Yes in Season 1-3; after that, not so much, although there was a small part of me that still liked them together. Totally not anymore when Barney/Robin began to make sense (for lack of a better term) and when The Mother was introduced. I am loving the Mother; hope we get to see more of her interaction with Ted before the show ends.

  10. Right, because TV never lies to us and changes stories...

  11. Wow. Ask even remotely anything related to Ted/Robin on STV and it's like you've awaken the devil. I for one knew they didn't plan on them from the beginning, but I still think their chemistry was undeniable, and that the show simply has made a huge mistake that has caused them a ton of more seasons to undo and still not managed to do in a way that convinces everyone.

To put this in another perspective, for me, this feels like doing lots of seasons with chemistry between Ross and Rachel on Friends, but instead of doing what they actually did and have Ross and Rachel end up together, the show decides to go with Rachel and Joey, whom had a fling in the later parts of the series. Honestly, that's simply how I feel, and judging by the fact that this is the 3rd or 4th time somebody has done a USD poll here on STV about Ted/Robin, I know I'm not alone.

  12. To be honest, fuck no. Some people actually think she marries Ted after he divorces The Mother or she dies (yeah, that's a real romantic story there, people) but no way is that happening. If you think they won't end up together, that's fine, though. I have no problem with that.

  13. Errrrrrrrrrrrr, nope? I like Barney and Robin, easily one of the most interresting/non-traditional pairings ever. And I really like the Mother, in fact, I think she is so fucking adorable that I just want to squeeze her (especially after the latest episode).

  14. Not really, but pretty much anything is better than Barney/Robin.

  15. Not since we met the mother

  16. This! But you could really apply that to any shipper based fandom LOL!

  18. Not necessarily. How I Met Your Mother has spent an enormous amount of time about the Ted/Robin situation. If it hadn't been for all that time spent on them, fans wouldn't be in this situation today. They have built up such momentum between them in the show, and that's how I think the Ted/Robin shippers got to this point today, and then it seems like the show has major problems now convincing those shippers and early adopters of the show who loved these two characters about this new Mother character. It's been 8 seasons before we even knew who the Mother was. That's way too much for a lot of people with a show like this, and I think a lot of that time could have been skipped and made a proper series out of Ted/Robin if the writes had played their cards right. I still defend my case, and I still think the writers of this show are some of the worst ever. Not only do I never laugh (and it's a situational comedy show, I might add), but the writers have really dug themselves a hole that it doesn't seem like they are able to get out of.

  19. Never liked them plus I love Barney and Robin from the beginning they just fit perfectly together. I love The Mother with Ted they work better than any of the girls Ted's been with.

  20. Yes it does. But it shouldn't.

  22. Errrr, nope? I like Barney and Robin, easily one of the most interresting (because non-traditional) pairings. And I really like the Mother, in fact, I find her so freaking adorable that I just want to squeeze her.

  23. This has all been of how he met the kids mother as he is describing it to them.
Don't you think 1 or both of the kids would at some point have went "uhhh, we don't have an Aunt Robin, you mean mom?" during the 100s of times hes mentioned her?
Is logic not allowed here? I didn't get the memo.

    ReplyDelete
  24. So you think they should have introduced the mother, right off the bat? Why would people tune in then? They would have had the conclusion before the story was told....which is what the show was about, telling the STORY of how he meets the kids mother.
Introducing her any earlier than the final season would never have worked.
"a proper series of Ted/Robin" - so you are saying you think shes supposed to be the mother??? Despite Bob Saget telling the kids over and over and over and over again that shes their Aunt? Literally since the start? Don't think of the kids woulda at some point turned to him & said "umm, we don't have an Aunt Robin, do you mean Mom?"
You think the writing sucks? Yet you have spent NINE SEASONS watching this? Yeah, sounds like they are doing it wrong. Since they also got out of it, they got to their end game & very likely exactly how it was planned all along, would strengthen the fact the writers really did a genius job stringing all of us along for NINE season.
Barney & Robin make far more sense. They have amazing chemistry. Both are kind of untraditional and Robin is 1of the very few people who can keep up with Barney. THEY actually have chemistry, something the majority of HIMYM fans can agree on (guessing you being part of that minority) that Ted?Robin had little to none of.

  25. Logic goes completely out of the window if you try to apply it on Ted and Robin and their shippers...

  27. I rooted in Season 1 for them to date, but we knew from the pilot that Robin wasn't going to be the kids' mother. So ever since they broke up, any Ted/Robin stuff has been freakishly annoying, and now they've already beaten the dead horse to a pulp that they had to bring another horse.

  28. Poor Ted and Robin shippers, always getting those scabs ripped off to reveal fresh wounds,

  29. You know, sometimes, just sometimes, it can be a good thing to discuss without resorting to flaming other commentators. You should try it sometime. TV doesn't show every minute of every character's lives. They could easily have written in that they are actually watching him on a video explaining it, and thus they aren't asking. That's just off the top of my head. What you don't need to do, is flame me just because I disagreed with you. That's immature.

  30. Did it ever occur to you while you were writing all that, that maybe I haven't watched all seasons but do pay attention to summaries and the status of TV shows? I've watched 2 seasons in total of this show. Anyone that goes along with this show for 9 years is crazy. I'm not going to continue this conversation with you because obviously you believe you are the God of comments and believe you can insult anyone who doesn't agree with you. Which of the characters have chemistry is not a fact, it's a matter of opinion. I might be in the minority, but at least I admit it rather than trying to insult people with a different opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  31. You watched the first 2 seasons of the show? As in you watched Ted try and get Robin, watched them dating and then went off sulking when they broke up? You literally have not watched any of the episodes with a B/R plot? Nor have you seen the mother?

Well I think that's your argument down the drain then.

And no it never occurred to me before you stated it that you were moaning about a show that you haven't watched 7 seasons of. Frankly most people are the God of comments compared to you when it comes to himym.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Personally, I never really liked them together. Never really saw the chemistry.

    ReplyDelete
  33. This! then when you learn they had already broken up. I was like Awe What!!! Then you remember he said in first episode she was the aunt. Since then I accepted the split and didn't mind the Barney Route.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Try reading again. I said "2 seasons in total". That's not the first two episodes, but 44 episodes that I've watched, spread over multiple of the seasons. I didn't like the show enough to watch on a weekly basis for the 9 years, so I had to skip episodes to see where it was going.

It doesn't matter whether or not I don't have enough argumentation to watch this. From the episodes I watched the show was dreadful, but I have friends who still watch it, and sometimes I'm in the room when they watch. I never mentioned anything about not seeing the B/R plot or the Mother, because guess what, I have. You just presumed too much in your comment.

Am I allowed to be able to have my opinions here on STV at all? I'm just asking. Because clearly this is day by day turning into the community at TVBTN, where people get a kick out of flaming other commentators. I thought the people on STV nowadays had common decency, but I've been proven wrong by you two. All I said in my original comment was my opinion, and I've been put on trial and ridiculed for the opinion I expressed. Now I can't wait for this show to go off the air and vanish.

  35. I still adore the Ted/Robin relationship from season 1&2, and still adore their friendship for the majority of the rest of the show just as much. They are part of the reason I love the earlier seasons the most. Regardless of the fact that they said from the get-go that Robin would not be the Mother, I still loved their relationship and was sad to see it end even if it was inevitable. I think they had a great chemistry. That being said, I've never liked Barney and Robin together...I was fine with it the first time, but frankly I disliked it the minute they got back together and I feel the show has been at its complete worst in focusing on that relationship.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ok maybe I was overly harsh, though I think you're underestimating your aggressiveness with all your posts. Of course you can have your opinions but I'm not sure why you feel like voicing them when you dislike the show and haven't even watched all of it. You're pretty much complaining about something you don't watch. To me that sounds like the flaming that you keep complaining about.

Your first comment implies you have a firm grip on the show and you've watched enough to be able to fairly judge the pairings. If you've been watching random episodes here and there you simply do not. This is a show that's built on subtle interactions on an episode to episode basis. It relies highly on continuity - sure it's no Breaking Bad - you can pretty much understand what's going on not watching it in order but you miss an awful lot.

You compare this show to Friends and I think you do this because you base your T/R shipping on other common sitcom tropes where the guy gets the first girl - it's an easy assumption to make if you don't pay attention to the show. But himym has always tried to subvert these tropes and the very fact that Robin was shown not to be the mother in the first episode was one of the reasons it was a pretty novel show when it came out.

There are 2 main plot driven love stories in this show - the B/R one - unexpected but strongly developed in many episodes (if you can possibly bear watching the show that you waste your time bitching about on the internet you could watch "baby talk" which pretty much explains why Barney is better suited to Robin than Ted or "Murtaugh" or "natural history" where they spend the whole episode having fun together) and the T/R one - the failed romance that Ted must get over so he can find his real love with the mother.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Why does someone have to think that they can be together, as in the first episode, Ted said yes just met their aunt - Robin? Even if it were not so, and so I think that the real mother is more suitable to Ted and the way she is what should be, just as I imagined.
