I'm pretty sure these numbers would improve if there weren't delays in other countries. For example, I've been pirating the hell out of Lost Girl this season. Why? Because this season will nearly be finished by the time it even airs in the US, and you can't go to tumblr or pretty much any other website without gifs and pictures and spoilers galore. It's a real pain in the ass.
BBC had the best reaction to this situation than I've heard or seen anywhere. Start an international network and air within a week or same day if possible.
Yeah that plays a part in my viewing and downloading routine as well. I don't watch Lost Girl anymore, but Continuum, a few other Canadian shows, and a number of UK shows air in their country of origin months before they air in the US... If theyare in the US at all.
Don't forget that BBC is financed by the tax payers...it is understandable that they don't want people who did not pay easy access. If they go internationally, it wont be for free for sure. I'm not surprised that Vikings is on the list...it wasn't even shown in regularly TV in a lot of countries. Sadly.
Days or months? You wish! :) (Maybe on paid cable channels.) In my country (and many countries around here, in Central / East Europe), the best case scenario is that once a season is complete, a TV company buys it and then airs it during the next TV season, i.e. with 1-year delay. However, that's only the situation in like 10% of the cases or so, usually they air it later - for example when a show has been running for 3-4 years and they see it is a commercial success, then they buy it. So, yeah - long live the torrents!
I lot of it its linked to fear of spoilers, if you don't watch the latest Breaking Bad within a day hell within a few hours the internet is swarming with spoilers. So you can even avoid the internet completely and wait for DVD boxsets or download it
ofcourse we have to download.. is there any other option when the shows r aired 1 yr later after US airing? situation has improved somehwat in India .. now Arrow Suits HIMYM r airing same day as US Telecast
The funny thing is, i live in Brazil and can watch Game of Thrones and True Blood simultaneously with the US premiere, The Walking Dead, American Horror Story only a couple days later, but Arrow, for example, is going to premiere its second season in March. It's a long time waiting.
quite shocked about Suits in there, if any little show was going to be up there I would have preferred to see Orphan Black as a lot of people caught up after the season aired and it stands to reason a lot would have been pirated.
I download 8 out of 10 of these. Well, i used to download Walking Dead and Homeland, but this year they managed to air the episodes the day after they aired in the US.
If it can be seen where these downloads come from, the number of Arrow downloads from the UK will soon go up, since we're going to be a month behind come the New Year.
It's not that surprising to me. I am from Portugal and everyone here downloads Suits and the show is one of the most commented shows around, after stuff like GoT, TWD and Breaking Bad. I always found the show very underrated around here, I completely love it.
6 out of 10 for me. But I stopped using torrent. If one letter from a law firm wasn't enough, I kept on doing it and got another this year also. Now I have to pay for both different episodes ( actually both shows in this top 10 ). I think they're monitoring stuff sometimes, and since it's became too risky I use different browser websites. It's slower but there is no seeding...
I love it too! I think the reason i found it strange is because i live in the U.S. so i don't have the wait as other people who live outside the U.S. do..
I don't download shows in the sense that I save a file onto my computer - but I do stream GoT illegally. I watch 4 other shows on this list through Prime, Netflix, Hulu or the station's website.
That and it's on a channel that not everyone can afford or wants to pay for on cable or satellite. I can see a person who only buys basic channels or the top 100 pirating it right here in the U.S.
I have never seen the show. I'd try it out, but I'm one of those people who doesn't have HBO.
I mostly stream my shows and when I download, I use another program than that torrent stuff, I never quite understood how it worked. Living in Austria, I just don't have the patience to wait 6 months/1 year for a horrible dubbed version, most of the shows I watch don't even get dubbed, so there that.
Other than the news and the occasional documentary, I barely watch anything on my actual TV.
My country saw the popularity of US and selected UK series popularity and now simulcast or 1-2 delay airing as a response and the best part is that most of it are on free tv networks which you can access without cable. But I still download though, I prefer to watch without commercials
I forgot to mention the overdubbing! I've heard it completely ruins shows for some people. I don't get to experience overdubbing too often though since in the US subtitles are far more common than dubbing.
POI has many viewers, but unfortunately not many people talk about it. It's not ''popular'' in the way that Game Of Thrones, Breaking bad and The Walking Dead are. Which is a shame, because I would think it would appeal to a wide audience - both procedural and serialized TV fans. Hopefully all that will change next year, because I'm pretty sure the HR arc was applauded by all the critics... That should get people watching!
Yep, some shows air a few months later, but some take years to make it to air. If they do at all. In Holland, Homeland season 3 started two weeks ago. But Person Of Interest is still halfway through season 2, and it won't continue until Spring. They just stopped broadcasting Fringe after season 3...
I have to agree. It has kind of always seemed that way, just like it took CBS 2 dang seasons to finally get full episodes online. I think people might be afraid to talk about it because of what it's about is so just-on-the-horizon. The critics did applaud that arc, which should get some attention.
for a reasonable price...yes, I would too. But as long as they don't figure out working rules for this kind of stuff, it sadly won't happen. But we can always hope, right?
Here in Czech republic we are in the same situation. I prefer see the original. And I don´t get why we can´t see the shows on the official pages of the series.
i actually expected GoT to be higher because in the UK alone it they didnt start airing it till the third season and one week later and the show would get spoiled because it'd be in the paper by the next day and you have to wait a week for it. however torrenting is bad new i only downloaded stuff (tbh just GoT, dexter and south park) for like a month and my internet as banned for a week (they blocked the IP adress) and now im officially on their system so im screwed if i try downloading anything. its hard to download shit in england few of my friends have been banned permenantly although they too were warned :/
What's ridiculous if you, say, pick an anime on Netflix, and compare the subtitles with the English version, they somehow completely change the entire jist of what's going on and entire conversations are sometimes totally different. I always watch in Japanese because I assume those subtitles are a bit more accurate.
I'd love to catch up with POI legally, but they only JUST added it to Google Play a few weeks ago, and it's only season 3. Based on other shows to that have been added like that it could take a year before they make the rest available. I liked the first couple of eps so I'm willing to pay for the first season digitally, but obviously they're not interested in my money. I give them a few weeks before I torrent it.
Suits has been around longer. But as much as I am a fan of both shows, I agree, I didn't expect Suits to be up there. That said, I do admittedly download both.
I completely agree about things getting lost in translation, and what I also hate about dubbed versions is when the movements of the lips don't match. I just find it extremely irritating.
Same in Croatia! Yey Eastern Europe. We don't get anything dubbed, tho. They air it later because it's expensive to air it right away... But still, I can't wait that long, specially when it's on the internet!
You can always watch it online... For GoT you can watch it on HBOgo, they have the episodes online as soon as they air it and you can watch them pretty much from anywhere.
I assume the latter two aren't known so well internationally since it is only their first season. POI I would guess is likely in the TOP-20 but the number of people doesn't reach to shows like Suits or Arrow.
I guess you haven't looked through my sarcasm. Also don't forget Das Traumschiff. http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRHhW7QIyok0KH-dCg0Qf6vYji8G-x_64LmeMyLdveN0k2IvOrYjw ;)

Interesting to see Game of Thrones with more downloads than US viewers, but really no surprise.
ReplyDeleteIf I lived in a country that aired the new episode days or even months later I would likely download it it too! XD

IF they ever get the BBC iPlayer going internationally that will be the perfect solution!
ReplyDeleteDon't forget that BBC is financed by the tax payers...it is understandable that they don't want people who did not pay easy access. If they go internationally, it wont be for free for sure.

ReplyDeleteI half expected to see The Blacklist here. Maybe it's still too new for an international following.
ReplyDeleteofcourse we have to download.. is there any other option when the shows r aired 1 yr later after US airing? situation has improved somehwat in India .. now Arrow Suits HIMYM r airing same day as US Telecast

ReplyDeleteWhere do you live? In most countries, new season come at least a year later (some 2, 3, 4 or even 5+ years) after US premieres.
I expected GoT would be number one right along with BB,but i never thought i would see Suits up there!
ReplyDeleteI download 8 out of 10 of these. Well, i used to download Walking Dead and Homeland, but this year they managed to air the episodes the day after they aired in the US.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly! I was shocked to see it up there.
ReplyDeleteYup, and the ones that don't air simultaneously I can still watch live online anyway. I still download everything that I want to rewatch and/or gif.
ReplyDeleteIf it can be seen where these downloads come from, the number of Arrow downloads from the UK will soon go up, since we're going to be a month behind come the New Year.
ReplyDeleteI thought i would have seen POI,The Blacklist or even Sleepy Hollow up there.

3/10 for me.
ReplyDeleteI love it too! I think the reason i found it strange is because i live in the U.S. so i don't have the wait as other people who live outside the U.S. do..
ReplyDelete5/10

ReplyDeleteI live in the US so most BBC or ITV shows come out months later on PBS in the States...
ReplyDeleteYears? Wow, I guess I do not follow premiere dates for foreign countries closely enough! XD
Ahh, yes!
ReplyDeleteI forgot to mention the overdubbing! I've heard it completely ruins shows for some people. I don't get to experience overdubbing too often though since in the US subtitles are far more common than dubbing.
I will gladly pay for BBC iPlayer if it gives me easy and timely access to the BBC shows I watch.
ReplyDeleteI think many people would pay a small fee for streaming rights of shows.. Kind of an a la carte menu .
POI has many viewers, but unfortunately not many people talk about it. It's not ''popular'' in the way that Game Of Thrones, Breaking bad and The Walking Dead are. Which is a shame, because I would think it would appeal to a wide audience - both procedural and serialized TV fans.

ReplyDeleteDubbed anime put me off watching any of it for ten years, it was so horrible.

ReplyDeleteAh,the German version of The Love Boat?
ReplyDeleteTrue, but there is so much buzz about these shows i expected to see those not Suits. Don't get me wrong i love Suits, but to have the #7 spot!
ReplyDeleteDon't know The Love Boat...but yeah it is a show which hails exotic countries and during that happen crime, love, accident etc. stories.
ReplyDeleteDunno, it was recommended from a friend and I have the first Season but not yet started.
ReplyDeleteWhat! What are you waiting for? Your going to love Harvey and Donna, but don't wait too long, its a good show!
ReplyDeleteSounds like the Love Boat....but it was pretty lame.It was made i the 70's.
