Ousted The Walking Dead creator Frank Darabont has slapped AMC with a bombshell lawsuit alleging that the cable channel breached his contract and deprived him of tens of millions of dollars in profits from the hit series by making a sweetheart deal licensing the show to itself.
The suit, filed Tuesday in New York state court and obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, hints that a standoff over Darabont’s profit participation, which has been brewing since February 2011, might in part explain his abrupt dismissal in July of that year, only weeks into production of Walking Dead's second season and two days after he had appeared at Comic-Con to promote the show. AMC never explained the firing publicly or, according to the suit, to Darabont himself.

I don't know about that. That was one hell of a hit he took, and if he believes he was wronged, he's not going to get over it soon. The suit also must have been in the planning stages long before Mob City aired.
ReplyDeleteHe still hasn't been paid. Wouldn't you be pissed? after all its been almost 3 years since he left
ReplyDeleteHe was promised a 3rd party producer and 12.5 percent of profit. Not only did they decide to produce the show themselves, they created a contract with their own licensing that makes sure the show will never technically be in profit all for what? Denying Frank what they are contractually obligated to pay him? And to top it all off, he was fired without a reason. They waited until he was around to promote the show at Comic Con and fired him almost immediately after. They have treated him like shit the entire time and they have a track record of doing it to other shows. The guys behind Mad Men and Breaking Bad managed because of Lionsgate and Sony, the production studio behind the shows and Frank did not have that either. So, let it go? I am surprised he was quiet for so line.
