"Glad to have Sophie back in the game, incredible how we had NO scenes with her since episode 6."
ReplyDeleteYeah, I was surprised to see how her character basically dropped off the face of the earth at the tail end of this season's first half. Then again, considering how Julie Plec uses supporting characters like Matt, Tyler, & Bonnie on TVD, I probably shouldn't be surprised at all.
Wouldn't Tyler be better described as her or Klaus's past? Not saying he doesn't get out that ep or that Rebekah doesn't help in some way but from that description it makes It sound like someone else. Either someone new or possibly Sophie, Father Kieran, or one of his vamps like Diego or Thierry.
ReplyDeletewell Thierry is locked up in the garden as well and especially since Marcel bends over backwards to Klaus wishes now there's a reason for Thierry to aid his friend against Klaus.
ReplyDeleteAlso JP said there would be an exploration of what exactly goes on in the garden. Possibly Tyler and Thierry bonding over their hate for Klaus (Thierry lost his love to him and Tyler...everything) and making a pact (much like Enzo and Damon did) that they would help each other if they ever got free.
All Rebekah has to do is make sure Tyler lets off his plan to kill Hayley and the baby and she's set with two new allies.
Keep in mind we have two episodes of TO before the 100th episode. And since I think that Klaus and Elijah will leave town once they hear Katherine is dying Tyler might follow them to keep track.
I'm still pissed at how they treat Tyler. From season 1 to 2 he had an incredible journey and to me became one of the most relatable characters. From a douchebag to a real heroic character. In season 3 we already got hints that Julie didn't care much for him by making him Klaus slave but once he broke free he felt heroic again but look at what happened ! They got rid of him once more. Cutting to season 4: Tyler is possesed by Klaus. After he's free he becomes a hero again and tries to free his comerades from the sirebond but is stopped by Klaus who kills his mom and drives him out of town.
ReplyDeleteHow many episodes did he have on TVD this year ? 2 ? He's still credited as a main character and is treated like...sh*t by these writers.
Not saying that Bonnie and Matt aren't treated poorly but hell...someone REALLY hates Tyler.
I still have my theory that Tyler was Kevins pet character, one he particulary enjoyed writing for but when he left all his work was handed over to Julie, a writer that might not have been as invested in the character as Kevin was.
I don't know, I love Julie as a writer (she is a genuinely good writer, sadly she gives in to fan demands WAY too much like bringin Kol back as a ghost, they didn't know what to do with him there. They just brought him back because it was demanded...or Klaroline...or Delena... gawdd..) but she really doesen't know how to write for Ty...
I wonder if the unexpected phone call is going to be from someone we've never seen before. Other than Tyler we don't know anyone else form her past. I wonder if her parents or someone call her.
ReplyDeleteI think the person from Marcel's past might be the new witch that was cast.
I thought Davina had already scrubbed Camille's brain at the end of the last episode. What else does she need to do? I don't really understand why Klaus cares one way or the other about Davina though.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining about the character absences. I guess what I'm getting at is that it seems as though The Originals is adopting the somewhat polarizing practice of leaving supporting characters out of episodes completely when the writers have nothing for them to do, which was (and still is) commonplace on The Vampire Diaries.
ReplyDeleteIt will be a woman from Marcel's past.. there was a spoiler that mentioned a woman (I do not know her name..)
ReplyDeleteI think that they don't have anything for Tyler to do at this point. In Season 1 he was around (he dated Vicki, he was friends with Matt, etc...) but then once he became a werewolf he ended up leaving town (so the TVD could move on from the werewolf plot). He then came back to be part of Klaus' plan to create hybrids but once the rest of the hybrids were gone he had nothing to do so they sent him away again. His main function became to be Caroline's love interest - he never really got to even interact with the other characters very much in Season 4.
ReplyDeleteThere was a witch that was cast (Elyse Levesque) and the description of her character is "The seductive and deceptive Genevieve returns to New Orleans with a
ReplyDeletemysterious agenda and some unfinished business with Rebekah and Marcel." So I was going to guess that it would be her.
Ok not reading this, but the title...The Casket Girls?? Yeahhh someone's dying. lol Omg this is exciting!! January is almost here!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat date is this airing?
ReplyDeleteJan 14
ReplyDeletea lot things is going to happen! sounds like great return episode
ReplyDeleteTyler is a horrible ally. His participation is guaranteed to get you and anyone close to you killed because he is brash and dumb and thinks with his fists--which doesn't work if you aren't the strongest one in the fight or you think that knuckles don't make good replacements for brain cells.
ReplyDeleteWhile I care slightly about the poor dead witch children and I like the witches more in this than I do in TVD (useless they are there), I'm not excited about Sophie's return. I haven't missed her at all. I hope since they are bringing her back that they have a coherent plot for her to enact. I worry for Davina, because they can't defang all the witches in NOLA can they? I think the girl has got to die.
ReplyDeletePoor Cami, she doesn't want to remember all the things that go bump in the night and she would be much safer out of town. Even poorer Rebecca, still trying to plot. Give it up, girl. You pick the worst allies and come up with the worst plots. Good thing your brother loves you.
I do like the idea of Marcel teaming up with Elijah, just please please play it smart.
That's an exceedingly harsh way to put it but you do have a valid point. Tyler does have a track record of trying and failing to help those around him.
ReplyDeleteSorry, didn't mean to be that harsh. Tyler is by far the character who has outlived his usefulness for me. He's only one step ahead of Bonnie. I don't see how he is even still alive. The writers have had to come up with some convoluted logic to keep his abs around.
ReplyDeletePlus, he was a jerk to pretty much everybody until Caroline tried, unsuccessfully to salvage him, especially Jeremy. He tried to be the big leader but whoops wasn't a leader, didn't have a plan, and everybody ended up far worse than they were before--mainly by being dead. Finally, he just ran off and wouldn't return Caroline's calls, then he dumped her. The girl who made him moderately tolerable, but mainly still an insecure moody testosterone fueled jerk with an awesome girlfriend who could totally do better. Nope. Persona non grata 'round these parts. Most of what happened to him was his own darn fault, based on his ego writing checks his planning skills couldn't cash.
I'm not one who believes the continued inclusion of all characters in a TV series should be based on their particular usefulness. My only requirement is entertainment value. Truthfully though, I don't believe Tyler possesses much of that anymore either.
ReplyDeleteSometimes you just reach a dead end with a character and have to cut them loose or they become dead weight that drags down a show's progress. I think Tyler is one of those characters.
Looks like it'll take Davina a while to break Klaus' compulsion on Cami. Elijah and Marcel will probably form an alliance to either hand Davina over to the witches or keep Klaus from doing it. Hayley's phone call will probably come from Davina herself, telling Hayley that she has a chance to run away. In the trailer, all other vampires are unconscious while Davina tortures Klaus. There would be plenty of time for Hayley to slip out, and Hayley usually does run off when the trouble starts that she caused. If I recall, she said things to Davina that led to Davina running away. I missed Sophie, but I'm still waiting for the so-called word to spread about what's going on in Mystic Falls. The cross-over to The Vampire Diaries is supposed to happen sort of early in the year. I'm so tired of Rebekah. I wish someone would dagger her and keep her out of the show for a couple of months. I'm also tired of the writers picking on Klaus. Other characters are just as bad or worse. I'm really just tired of them turning on each other all the time in general.
ReplyDeleteTwo episodes of TO will air before TVD comes back so I'm expecting something at the end of 1x11 that would cause Klaus to head back to Mystic Falls
ReplyDeleteI think entertainment value is totally useful. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure these are contractual absences. Most of the cast, I believe, is contracted for 16 eps or something like that--and perhaps it varies per actor as well.
ReplyDeleteElijah and Marcel ? I assume because they both have a fatherly love for Davina, I could totally see Elijah taking the father spot and Marcel that of a big brother for her.
ReplyDeleteKlaus seems to be eager to take out Davina as a player tough, also I hope that Elijah and Cami get a few scenes again. I liked them in the pilot
'Unexpected phone call' could be various things. Maybe the child is growin faster and threatens to pop out sooner than expected ? Tyler broke free ? Eve or another part of her wolf family wants to open up to her ?
Rebekahs crusade DEFINITELY involves getting Tyler out of the garden tough, since Ty is supposed to be in TVDs 100th episode. Also he's the only other hybrid and next to Rebekah the strongest opponent Klaus has.
Glad to have Sophie back in the game, incredible how we had NO scenes with her since episode 6.
Dang. There's a lot going on in this episode. It seems a bit frantic but the pace of the episode should be brisk.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lot is happening in this ep!
