"Let The Fat One In" is a variation on the title of the brilliant Swedish horror film "Let The Right One In".

I like serious titles better. Seasons one and two had Dead In The Water, Skin, Bugs, Asylum, Hell House, Salvation, Bloodlust, No Exit, Hunted, Nightshifter, Roadkill, In My Time Of Dying....
ReplyDeleteI can't stand titles like Two And A Half Men, Live Free Or TwiHard, Like A Virgin, Shut Up Dr.Phil, Slash Fiction, Season Seven Time For A Wedding, The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo, LARP and the Real Girl, Man's Best Friend with Benefits...etc.
The funniest thing I ever saw was a youtube vid of a guy playing Slenderman. He was talking shite about how it wasn't scary and blah blah then suddenly a flash of Slenderman and he's running through the woods, screaming like a girl. HILARIOUS.

Really? Why the heck does it matter WHAT title they use? I don't even take the episode's title into consideration when deciding whether or not I'm going to watch a show. Seems a bit silly for people to get upset about that, but if a gun were held to my head and I HAD to decide, I'd vote for titles that are witty instead of just "skin" or "roadkill", but that's me.
ReplyDeleteWitty names go with the actors' personalities? Are you kidding me? Most people aren't obsessed enough to think that they know the actors. There's also a huge difference between witty and funny. This isn't a sit com we're talking about.
ReplyDeleteYou have heard of youtube, haven't you? You know - interviews, blooper reels... I don't need to spend more than a few minutes a week watching them to know that the actors are both big pranksters. Maybe you should look up the difference between witty and funny - I don't think the titles are funny, just witty. Wow...someone pissed in someone's cheerios today, didn't they?
ReplyDeleteI agree, Rama. Though, one of the main characters is pretty serious (Sam) and, lately, Dean is becoming more serious, too. It seriously blows. I really like when they add in a little humor with all the serious shit that goes on.
ReplyDeleteI see that you edited your previous post. SPN isn't a comedy show, and what the actors do while they're not on camera shouldn't have anything to do with episode titles, unless it's a meta episode. Just my opinion.

ReplyDeleteI think everyone knows Supernatural isn't a comedy show, but it's about life - their life - and rarely anyone is serious all the time, right? I believe that part of what makes shows great is that they have well-rounded lead characters. The characters were serious most of the time in the first few seasons and I didn't like the show as much as when the writers brought out their other personality traits.
Maybe you're right that the actor's personalities (or what they do off-camera) shouldn't have anything to do with episode titles and maybe they don't, but the director has said that they do take their personalities into consideration (somewhat) when writing episodes. Maybe they shouldn't, but they do and I think it's one reason the show is so popular and why their on-screen chemistry shines through.
