Spiral - Season 5 - Filming has started + synopsis
5 Dec 2013
Canal PlusFilming of the fifth season of Canal+'s landmark series Engrenages (Spiral) started on Monday, and will last for the next eight months or so.
Anne Landois is still the showrunner, overseeing another 12-episode season that will be directed by Frédéric Jardin, Frédéric Balekdjian and Magaly Richard-Serrano.
Here's the first glimpse of a synopsis :
Captain Laure Berthaud is in charge of a double homicide particularly tough for her squad: a young kid is involved. Cops, lawyers, and judges will be working on this case that will bring them into the northern suburbs of Paris, in the worlds of organized crime, informants, and teenage girls gangs.
Joining the six series regulars (Caroline Proust, Grégory Fitoussi, Audrey Fleurot, Thierry Godard, Fred Bianconi, Philippe Duclos) are returning players Nicolas Briançon, Bruno Debrandt, Elisabeth Macocco and Dominique Daguier as well as newcomers Louis-Do de Lencquesaing and Olivier Chantreau, among others.
Canal+ didn't lie after all, they said they wanted to start filming season 5 in 2013... didn't expect it to be so late in the year though. Because it's not an American schedule, they take their time to film the show (if Engrenages was done in the US, those 12 episodes would be filmed in four/four and a half months instead of the planned eight months). And thus the gap between seasons 4 and 5 will probably be 22 months (it's better than the 26 months between seasons 3 and 4, but still).
Season 5 will probably not air until September 2014.
Spiral airs on BBC Four in the UK and all four seasons are streaming on Netflix.

It seems worth mentioning that Daniel Duval, recurring in seasons 2 & 3, has passed away on October 10, he was 68. He played Maitre Szabo in 14 episodes (seen in the picture above with Audrey Fleurot).
