ABC has given early pilot order to drama Sea Of Fire, based on a Dutch format.

Sea Of Fire, from Sony Pictures TV, Scripted World and Mandeville, was written by Jenna Bans. When three teenage girls star in a pornographic film, it tears their families apart and leads to a disappearance, a murder and host of other secrets boiling under the surface in a small town. The original series, Vuurzee, which drew comparisons to Twin Peaks, was produced by and aired on pubcaster VARA and ran for two seasons that aired four years apart, in 2005 and in 2009. Sea Of Fire is executive produced by Bans; Scripted World’s Rob Golenberg and Alon Aranya; Mandeville’s David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman and Laurie Zaks; as well as VARA’s Robert Kievit and Frank Ketelaar.

  1. Another soapish murder drama based on a dutch series? Because the first two attempts worked out so well for them...

  2. The Killing on AMC was not that great either. ;)

  3. At least it ran for 3 seasons and got 6 final episodes on Netflix. ABC's adaptation of Red Widow was cancelled after one season, Betrayal will follow in its footstep and I don't see this one lasting very long either.

  4. It was like a yo-yo, cancelled, brought back, cancelled, brought back, they could not figure out what to do with it. I did like the actors they did super with what they were given. ;)

  5. Ha, I didn't know it was cancelled before. I think the networks should just stop trying to adapt these dutch series.

  6. If at first you don't succeed, try and try again

  7. I wonder if it will be very dark or made to fit tonally with ABC's fluffier soaps.
