A weekly feature in which we're trying to find most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great scenes that we've seen recently.
Thank you for all your good wishes last week. It was a great anniversary! Have a great day and enjoy reading!
AGENTS OF SHIELD, "The Bridge", December 10, 2013, Actors: Clark Gregg, J. August Richards and more
The Scene: The hostage exchange
Justyna Kubica: That was probably the biggest shock of the week for me. I did not see this twist coming! First of all, I always believed that when it comes to the shows like this, the life threatening situations are what brings all the heroes together and can result in the series’ best episodes. And since it worked so well before (F.Z.Z.T.) I’m really excited to see the team doing their best to save Coulson after the winter break. Also, it seems like we’re gonna find out what actually happened to him after he died on The Avengers. And that’s huge! Not to mention that even though I already love the rest of the guys (FitzSimmons!) Coulson is still my favorite. So to see him getting kidnapped and about to find out something potentially heartbreaking and/or disturbing, it hurts. Poor guy! And then there’s Mike. I spent the entire episode thinking about him as the show’s very own superhero, still in the origins of his story, so the fact that he might be dead, after trying to do a really heroic thing in the end, is the saddest part of the episode. Hopefully he survived the explosion, I refuse to believe in anything else. My reaction to what was happening was pretty much like Skye's, the shock on the everyone's faces left me speechless for a moment. What a cliffhanger! Loved it and absolutely can't wait for what's next. I know there are a lot of different opinions about Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. (like always) but I'm definitely one of the fans who really enjoy it, seems like the things just keep getting better, so kudos to the cast & crew!
AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN, "Head", December 11, 2013, Actors: Kathy Bates and more
The Scene: The Final Scene & Delphine is forced to watch a DVD of "Roots"
DarkUFO: The shoot out at the Voodoo house.
Sharon Seymour: Delphine is forced to watch a DVD of "Roots".
ARROW, "Three Ghosts", December 11, 2013, Actors: Manu Bennett, Stephen Amell and more, The Scenes: The Slade revelation & Felicity asks Oliver to promise he'll come back & "Tommy" rallies Oliver to fight
Daniel van der Veer: Slade is revealed to be behind Blood's work of creating super soldiers for his war. When I saw that chair, I was expecting Malcolm to be in it, but was surprised to hear Slade's voice. It will be interesting to see where it goes.
Bradley Adams: Slade is alive. I suspected he might be, but I was highly shocked when he was revealed to be alive, and the man behind Brother Blood. That was an unbelievably epic scene. Also picked by Babar Suhail
Virginia Fontana: Felicity asks Oliver to promise he'll come back, as Barry looks on. There were so many fabulous scenes this week, from the revelation that Slade is alive to Barry getting hit with the particle accelerator blast. But I enjoyed this one the most because it emphasized the intense and increasingly intimate bond between Felicity and Oliver, while also showing off Grant Gustin's acting skills. Barry's understanding of the "Olicity" relationship "flashed" with pitch-perfect subtlety across the actor's face. An amazing and epic winter finale!
A Dahne: This is by far the best thing on TV for me this week. Not only does Colin Donnell always nail every scene he's in, but it was great to hear him call Oliver a hero, even if he was only in Oliver's head.
GREY'S ANATOMY, "Get Up, Stand Up", December 12, 2013, Actors: Justin Chambers, Sarah Drew and more, The Scenes: Alex tells Jimmy how he really feels & April yells at her bridesmaids & Cristina and Meredith make up
Klutzy Girl: Alex tears into his father at the hospital and tells Jimmy how he really feels. Justin knocked this scene out of the park. Alex is my favorite character and I've been waiting years for this storyline. It definitely hasn't disappointed me yet. I'm interested to see what happens next.
Babar Suhail: April yells at her bridesmaids.
Jamie Coudeville: Cristina and Meredith make up.
HOMELAND, "Big Man in Tehran", December 8, 2013, Actors: Damian Lewis and more
The Scene: Brody kills his target (picked by DarkUFO)
NASHVILLE, "Tomorrow Never Comes", December 11, 2013, Actors: Hayden Panettiere, Jonathan Jackson, The Scene: Juliette almost confesses her love to Avery
Klutzy Girl: It was such a heartbreaking scene. The pain on her face as she walked away after seeing Scarlett hurt. I've started out loving Juliette and Avery's friendship to shipping them, and now because of this episode, they've reached OTP status. I need them together, but I see a lot of bumps in the road ahead.
NCIS, "Devil's Triad", December 10, 2013, Actors: Mark Harmon, Melinda McGraw, Joe Spano
The Scene: Diane and Tobias ask for Gibbs' blessing
Daniel van der Veer: NCIS had a really funny episode this week with a lot of great moments. The end scene was perhaps the best scene, when Diane and Fornell asked Gibbs for his blessing. I am happy for Diane that she may have found love again and I am hoping it will last.
NIKITA, "Pay-Off", December 13, 2013, Actors: Lyndsy Fonseca, Devon Sawa and more
The Scenes: The destruction of MDK building & Sam comes back for Alex
Virginia Fontana: Sam steals Alex's briefcase of diamonds, then comes back to save her when she's about to be attacked. Again, plenty of fantastic scenes in this episode, and I loved the reveals of the final few sequences. But as a longtime Alex/Owen (or now Sam) shipper, I got a huge kick out of seeing some more development in their long-simmering relationship. Sure, every time Sam almost gains Alex's trust, he loses it again due to his selfishness. But he's really starting to hesitate on that front as the closeness between himself and Alex flickers in moments such as their talk about Sean's death this week. Sam is verging ever closer to Owen territory, making one wonder if he'll end up truly becoming someone in between these two identities. Since there are only two episodes left, I can't wait to see what happens between Alex and Sam/Owen in those remaining hours.
Bradley Adams: The missile destroys the MDK building. What a stunt.
ONCE UPON A TIME IN WONDERLAND, "Home", December 12, 2013, Actors: Emma Rigby, Peter Gadiot and more, The Scene: Cyrus and The Red Queen find Alice and Will
Justyna Kubica: What an emotional moment this was. First, Cyrus and Alice are finally reunited and then, The Red Queen shows up to convince everyone to run away from the horrors that Jafar has prepared for them. But the most important, the most powerful part for me is when Alice asks Anastasia why did she even join forces with someone like Jafar in the first place and the Queen finally reveals what's really in her heart. It was something we could have guessed before, after she freed Will from the stone (without revealing herself) and all the other little moments where the Queen showed her true self, hidden behind the mask she's created for herself: cold blooded, powerful sorceress and a ruler. In the end, it turns out she's Anastasia, a girl who loves Will more than her power and position, she admits she made a mistake and, in her own way, is trying to make up for it. It's hard not to believe her seeing just how broken, how desperate she is in this scene. So I'm glad to see there's a chance for her after all and the fact that Cyrus believed her, despite what she's done to him and Alice. The scene is beautifully portrayed by Emma Rigby who shows more vulnerable side of her character. Also, I just love the music that plays in the background when both Will and Alice are dying! It's so lovely, yet so heartbreaking. It's a shame the show doesn't have great (or even good) ratings, cause I'm really enjoying the story so I hope that at least we'll get to see a happy ending for our heroes before the show finishes its run. And for now, I can't wait to see what's next.
REIGN, "Fated", December 12, 2013, Actors: Jenessa Grant and more
The Scene: Aylee's death (picked by Jamie Coudeville)
SCANDAL, "A Door Marked Exit", December 12, 2013, Actors: Tony Goldwyn, Joe Morton
The Scene: Rowan tells Fitz he's a boy, not man
Klutzy Girl: Rowan tells Fitz he is a boy, not a man. This smackdown was awesome and a long time coming. The scene was pretty amazing.
SLEEPY HOLLOW, "The Golem", December 9, 2013, Actors: Tom Mison, Katia Winter
The Scene: Katrina tells Ichabod about Jeremy
Justyna Kubica: I really enjoyed the entire episode, so it wasn't simple to choose a favorite scene, but in the end I decided to go with Katrina's story. She's just such a fascinating character. She's a mystery and I love learning more about her past. It's good to get some answers, not just more questions for a change. The story itself is such a sad one, like most of the things we know about poor Ichabod's wife. I can't imagine how hard it must be for a mother to leave her child behind, especially when it's not even a choice, but a way to save her baby's life. It was absolutely heartbreaking to see Katrina being all alone like this, with no options, without Ichabod. I would really love to see these two reunite in the end (or earlier), their feeling seems strong and after everything, they deserve a chance, probably more than most. Other great part of this scene is the way it's acted by both actors, Tom Mison and Katia Winter continue to impress me. Just like the show itself. It's already one of my favorites this fall and it may just become one of my favorite shows in general. I never expected it, so it's an amazing surprise. Now let's survive that winter break.
A Dahne: Katrina explains her back story and why she is in Purgatory - Of all the great characters on Sleepy Hollow, Katrina is the most intriguing because she's still a mystery. This helped us see more of her story.
SONS OF ANARCHY, "A Mother's Work", December 10, 2013, Actors: Charlie Hunnam, Maggie Siff
The Scene: Jax and Tara in the park
Max Conte: Sons of Anarchy gave me my favorite scene of the TV season so far - Jax & Tara in the park. Maggie Siff is so incredible as Tara, willing to give herself up to try to protect her kids, assuming Jax has come to kill her. "At least I know I tried to save them from becoming what you are." 6 seasons worth of story came to a head here. Also picked by Sharon Seymour
THE BIG BANG THEORY, "The Cooper Extraction", December 12, 2013, Actors: Mayim Bialik and more
The Scene: Leonard shows Amy that she is Sheldon's screensaver (picked by Babar Suhail)
THE MENTALIST, "Green Thumb", December 8, 2013, Actors: Simon Baker, Robin Tunney
The Scene: Lisbon gives Jane a pair of socks
Virginia Fontana: Lisbon gives Jane a pair of socks, representing that he's officially back solving cases in the US with her by his side. To do that, he needs socks! This was an adorable scene that crackled with "Jisbon" chemistry.
THE TOMORROW PEOPLE, "Death's Door", December 11, 2013, Actors: Peyton List and more
The Scene: Stephen comes back from the dead
Bradley Adams: Cara brings Stephen back from the dead. Her panic over the fact that Stephen might die just showed exactly how she feels for him.
THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, "Fifty Shades of Grayson", December 12, 2013, Actors: Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, The Scene: Damon lets Elena go (picked by Jamie Coudeville)
TROPHY WIFE, "'Twas the Night Before Christmas ... Or 'Twas It", December 10, 2013
The Scene: "I Saw the Sign"
A Dahne: The adults sing "I Saw the Sign" - This was the funniest thing I saw all week. In fact the whole episode was hilarious, best yet.

SHIELD: The hostage scene
The Agents of Shield, Arrow, Nikita, and OUAT Wonderland scenes.

ReplyDeleteArrow - "Tommy" shows up to help Oliver & Slade's monologue at the end

And more...
So as you can see, hard to choose just 3 scenes this week ;)
Ditto :)
ReplyDeleteYes to the Golem dying scene. Such a powerful moment.
Also a great scene on Almost Human. Really enjoying the show so far.
Almost Human and Sleepy Hollow are my top favorite new shows this year.
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be really hard next week since there's only a few shows on! LOL.
ReplyDeleteScandal: Rowan's speech to Fitz is most definitely the scene of the week for me! It amazed me, the speech/dialogue delivery everything..just brilliant.
ReplyDeleteJake's goodbye to Olivia and becoming the new command (!!!) was great too. I just love Scott Foley, and the character he plays too.
Grey's: This was, by far, my favorite episode of the season. I loved the scene where Mer and Cristina sort of make up, they were honest, there wasn't too much yelling..it's a start. And even though I saw it coming, Jackson stopping the wedding was good too.
Homeland: Brody killing the target! For a few seconds I really though he's not going to do it and that he's really blowing Javadi's cover. But I also loved the scene when Brody comes out of the house of Abu Nazir's widow and everybody starts cheering for him.
Trophy Wife: The episode was really good, and all of them singing was my favorite scene too. I also loved the scene where they find out it was Bert who added the absinthe and Kate's reaction cause everyone knows it wasnt her.
TVD: All the Defan scenes, but especially those which involved them kinda scaring Aaron. Damon letting Elena go is my second favorite.
OUAT: Rumbelle + Neal reunion, however short the scene was.
OUAT In Wonderland: The final few mins actually, when Alice/Cyrus and Will/Anastasia reunite and she is literally begging them to leave..and Will turning into a genie! I had the same reaction as him..'Oh bloody hell'
Yes to Trophy Wife, OUAT and OUAT in Wonderland. Haven't seen the rest, so can't really say. But on OUAT, the Rumple & Neal & Belle reunion was one of my favorites too. I really love the scenes with them in general, so I just wish it was longer.
ReplyDeleteYes to CF. It was so good to finally see McLeod lose and 51 being saved.
ReplyDeleteExactly, wish it was longer!
ReplyDeleteGotta go with Rowan's smackdown on Fitz. It was elegantly done.
ReplyDeleteI chose The Olicity and Tommy scene is Arrow. I thought those were great. Especially seeing Tommy, giving Ollie that speech and then Ollie kicking some serious ass. Even though it was like a 2 minute appearance, it was a strong appearance, and I really Tommy. Also with with Olicity scene, it was sooo intense, i mean ugh, my heart. Ollie speaks softly "Ill be back" Felicity "Promise me." (swoon) Even Diggle couldn't have missed that moment. If he did, he's blinder than i thought. My third vote was Leonard shows Amy that Sheldon put her as a screensaver. I thought that was the most ADORABLE thing ever. Their relationship has grown SO much. When they were walking up the stairs together, and Amy couldn't stop smiling. Awwww "Shamy" It's little things like that, that confirms, Sheldon really does like Amy, but can't express it (or expresses it w/o knowing he expresses it). then i don't even care if they kiss. But other times i REALLY do. I hope HE interprets the kiss before the season is over.
ReplyDeleteHonorable mentions:
ReplyDeleteAlmost Human - Dorian flips the van / Maya back stories about her parents / Maldonado gets the last word / Dorian gives Maya a box of her parents' stuff
Sleepy Hollow - Ichabod takes out his frustrations by chopping wood and Grinching out to Abbie / Abbie persuades Henry to stay / Irving takes Macey out for hot chocolate but runs into the demon-possessed instead / Ichabod thanks the golem but then kills him / Moloch shows himself to Ichabod
SHIELD - Team SHIELD fights the super soldiers / Coulson talks to Peterson about seeing his son / Coulson kidnapped
Goldbergs - the teacher flips out after too much Goldberg interference / Erica sings / Murray puts on Mom goggles while Adam makes Barry look good / Teacher delivers pizzas to the Goldbergs
Trophy Wife - Honestly this was the funniest show I saw all month and the best Trophy Wife has ever been so most of the episode falls into favorite scenes. To narrow though - opening montage / stealing the Marys / Christmas tree catches on fire / chestnut picking / Pete puts the presents in the chimney / family celebrates that Pete didn't quit his job
Arrow - Ghost Slade kicks Oliver's butt / Blood runs for Mayor, but Slade is the puppet master controlling the whole show / Barry is zapped by the particle accelerator and chemicals in his lab / Oliver and Diggle talk about seeing ghosts and survivor's guilt / Thea calls Arrow out on shooting Roy
Wonderland - Everyone flees before Jafar opens his present
Crazy Ones: Outtakes when Sydney talks about going "back to whatever Disney hell you came from."
White Collar - Peter debunks Jurassic Park / Neal plays hide and seek in a hidden lab v/ Making a fake egg (to James Brown nonetheless) / Peter and Neal banter over the fake egg / Peter plays with the velociraptor to distract Holt / June talks to Neal about Byron
Grimm - To be added. I haven't had a chance to rewatch them yet.
Sleepy Hollow is my favorite, but Almost Human is growing on me every week. I love the chemistry between the two leads and enjoy the buddy cop banter.
ReplyDeleteI loved Diane's glare at Jackie over Bert's head when she thanks him for helping them. The whole episode was hilarious though.
ReplyDeleteSo many great ones here! Don't even know what to add :)
ReplyDeleteI'll just say that I rewatched a bunch of scenes from Trophy Wife's episode a lot of times. It was absolutely hilarious. But the song had me laughing the most!
Also enjoy watching Grimm! Personally I did, especially the second one ;)
I prefered the first Grimm Friday night but that might change in the rewatch.
ReplyDeleteAlmost Human is mine. I love Robot/futuristic stuff and I loved Karl Urban in Star Trek, and the writers, so I predicted I'd love it as soon as I saw the trailer. I love both leads as well and the banter. I could watch those car scenes all day but that would be unhealthy. XD
ReplyDeleteSleepy Hollow I love the horsemen and son storyline and the occasional humor they inject into it.
AH and SH kind of complement each other on Mondays with AH tending to balance serious and funny while SH is darker and can be quite creepy at times.
The car scenes are definitely my favorite part.
ReplyDeleteOUAT in Wonderland got my vote.
ReplyDeleteAnd OUAT the Charming and Emma talk :)
TBBT: the entire episode was fun and emotional in the same time.
ReplyDeleteGrey's Anatomy: Every scene with Justin Chambers and of course Meredith and Christina talk.
No offense but... scene of the week from Nikita includes Alex/Owen, but not the genius reveal that Mr. Jones faked the defeat of The Shop and Amanda's death to give Nikita what she wanted and make her retire from the war? Seriously?
ReplyDeleteWell, personally, I prefer the reveal at the end, well, pretty much everything from the moment the team enters the MDK building is my favorite part of the episode, but everyone has a right to their own opinion :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree that the reveal of Amanda still being alive and Jones' evil plan was awesome, too! :)
