Today's Early Overnight Ratings

This table shows the early overnight ratings. These ratings are normally adjusted later in the day when all the ratings have been consolidated to take into account any local preemptions and/or overruns. You can find all the final adjusted numbers in our Ratings Database. (See the About section below for details about ratings)

If you are new to ratings or still confused, we recommend you read this excellent Ratings FAQ.

Football Overruns will affect the CBS numbers. We will have to wait until the final adjusted numbers to get a real picture of the CBS numbers.

Early Ratings Analysis

The analysis below is based on the early household numbers and are NOT the same as the numbers that will be posted in the above table later. (See the About section below)

Ratings Breakdown:
An estimated 51-minute “NFL Football Overrun” led CBS to Sunday overnight victory, with a 23 percent advantage over normally dominant NBC. Keeping in mind that all individual program results for the Eye net are approximate, the Football overrun scored a whopping 19.7 rating/33 share in the household overnights from 7-7:51 p.m., which boosted “60 Minutes” to an 11.9/19 in the 8 p.m. hour. Next was “The Amazing Race,” which concludes for the season with a two-hour edition next Sunday, at a second-place 6.9/11 at 9 p.m., followed by “The Good Wife” at a 7.6/13 in the 10 p.m. hour.

Over at NBC, the New York Giants at the Washington Redskins was on the map with an approximate 12.1/19 in the overnights for the primetime portion from 8:30-11 p.m. Earlier in the evening on NBC was pre-game “Football Night in America” at a 1.3/ 2 at 7 p.m. (#4), a 3.0/ 5 at 7:30 p.m. (#3) and a second-place 6.8/11 in the 8 p.m. half-hour.

ABC opened the evening with a second-place 3.9/ 6 for veteran “America’s Funniest Home Videos” at 7 p.m., which led into a diluted (and distant third-place) 4.1/ 6 for “Once Upon a Time” from 8-9 p.m. Comparably, “Once Upon a Time” slipped by 27 percent from the 5.6/ 8 on the year-ago evening. Next on the alphabet net was original “Hallmark Hall of Fame” made-for TV movie “Christmas in Conway” at an uneventful 4.2/ 6 from 9-11 p.m.

Fox populated the evening with encores of “Bob’s Burgers” (#3: 2.5/ 4), “American Dad” (#4: 1.8/ 3) and “The Simpsons” (#4: 2.3/ 3) from 7-8:30 p.m., followed by an original episode of “Bob’s Burgers” (#4: 2.1/ 3), a repeat of “Family Guy” (#4: 2.2/ 3) and an original installment of “American Dad” (#4: 2.2/ 3). The repeats, needless to say, were not beneficial to the “Bob’s Burgers” and “American Dad” originals.

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.

  1. Just to throw this out there, The Mentalist wasn't even on at 10:30 in my area last night. More like 10:50pm. I really hate CBS Sundays.

  2. Is this bad for OUAT?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Yes, but CBS will glad trade TM's late ratings for a mammoth 19.7 overrun all the time. TM 2.0 will have time to prove itself this winter/spring.

It'd be tough to be a Mentalist fan. Those overruns are brutal for the show. I'm terrified CBS will move Elementary to that spot next year. I'd prefer they leave it in place as I'm not sure another show would do better Thursday at 10pm. At least they get the big weekend lift in that slot.

  5. It got a 4.2 for the previous episode.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Me too. At least CBS sends me an CBS eye alert with an approximate start time.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Hard to tell until the 18-49 demo numbers are released in about an hour.

  8. This seems to be VERY strong for The Good Wife!?

Hard to say. Likely to be an adjustment, but it was the 100th and I heard it was great.

    ReplyDelete
  10. so it will be down again?

    ReplyDelete
  11. You published the first figures Mentalist?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Not necessarily. HH ratings don't really relate to the 18 to 49 demo.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I wouldn't put too much importance on the overnights HH for the Good Wife. Last week it got a 6.9 in overnights HH and in demo that translated to a 1.3 rating. And with Football being a live event CBS ratings in preliminaries are a scrambled mess.

  14. My guess would be that CSI gets the 10 p.m.-spot on Sunday next, it might be the most likely candidate, but I don't know...
I'm terribly sad for The Mentalist, but I am prepared to see it go, so it wouldn't come as a shock. The slot never really left it a chance, and the weak support by CBS did the rest... I think they really want to get rid of it now :'(.

Yeah, it's sad. I've never watched it consistently because of various non-TV reasons, but my mom is a big fan and I know how frustrating it can be. I can't see it returning and it's a bummer.

CSI at Sunday/10pm would make sense because its numbers on Wednesdays show that there's an inexplicably loyal audience out there. I'm not sure CBS will want to disrupt what's obviously working on Weds. It's a pretty solid night for them. Weds at 10 might actually allow Elementary's huge DVR audience to find it. Elementary has a poor, incompatible lead-in and faces Scandal every week. I'd be curious to see what it would do elsewhere. I'd still prefer for it to stay in place. CBS just needs to wait out Scandal. I'm not sure it'll maintain those numbers for an extended time.

I also can't imagine CBS touching Friday. I'll be paying close attention to how Intelligence performs, I guess. I've heard they have a lot of dramas in development, too.

  16. Indeed, Mentalist will be move or cancel next year?

  17. Devon Maxwell-Pierce2 December 2013 at 16:29

Is that a series low for the Simpsons?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Devon Maxwell-Pierce2 December 2013 at 16:30

    99% cancel, I'd say. It'd take a miracle.

Ah, sorry. Wasn't paying attention, clearly. :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think they will cancel it... and that makes me sooo sad...
But well, the show is not CBS-owned, is one of the longer-running shows which makes it more expensive, ratings are far from good, the main storyline (Red John) has been told and we still have half a season to get a satisfying ending, CBS has a lot of new dramas they will have to put somewhere, and with CSI they have a (in my opinion) likely candidate for the 10 p.m. slot, which would free its Wednesday slot for a new show or some switching...
Considering all these facts, I think The Mentalist will indeed go :(((((. I keep hoping for a miracle, but I'd rather stay realistic instead of being shocked to death in May...

Should we still expect big adjustments for TGW in the finals?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Football on CBS wasn't a overrun at 7pm. The game didn't start til 4:30 so the only overrun was from 7:30 til 7:51.

    ReplyDelete
  24. It was a repeat.

    ReplyDelete
  25. yup the CBS programms were pushed 50 mins in East and Central time-zones. So preliminaries for CBS are pretty useless for yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  26. ihope ouat adjuted up

    ReplyDelete
  27. It must have aired out of the primetime.

    ReplyDelete
  28. In the CBS press release there was mention of The Mentalists rating. 11-11:30 PM, THE MENTALIST averaged 8.58m, 1.5 in A18-49 and 2.2 in A25-54.

    ReplyDelete
  29. These are not the final scores Mentalist further increase the hearing ?

    ReplyDelete
  30. We won't know until the Final Adjusted numbers are released tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  31. OUAT did good right? I mean for the 18-49
