Football Leads NBC to Victory; Respectable “Survivor” Season-Ender on CBS
Household
Rating/Share
NBC 8.6/14
Fox 7.7/12
CBS 6.4/10
ABC 3.6/ 6
-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Sunday 12/16/12:
Fox: +267, ABC: +20, NBC: -22, Fox: -43

-Winners:
“Sunday Night Football” (NBC), “The OT” (Fox)
-Honorable Mention:
“60 Minutes” (CBS), “Survivor: Blood vs. Water” (CBS)
-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Betrayal” (ABC)

-Ratings Breakdown:
It was another overnight Sunday victory for NBC, which featured the Cincinnati Bengals at the Pittsburgh Steelers. The match-up averaged an approximate 10.9 rating/18 share in the overnights from 8:30-11 p.m., with pre-game “Football Night in America” at a 1.6/ 3 at 7 p.m. (#4), a 2.6/ 4 at 7:30 p.m. (#4) and a dominant 8.0/11 in the 8 p.m. half-hour.
In season-finale news, “Survivor: Blood vs. Water” concluded on CBS with a second-place 6.2/10 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m., which was 14 percent below the year-ago edition set in the Philippines (7.2/11 from 9-11 p.m. on 12/16/12 out of a CBS News special featuring President Obama addressing the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut). Based on the live same day data, that year-ago season-ender translated into 11.46 million viewers and a 3.2/ 8 among adults 18-49.
Next on the Eye net was the live “Survivor” Reunion at a 4.6/ 8 from 10-11 p.m. Keep in mind that the individual program results on CBS are estimated due to the approximate five-minute late start.
As for “Survivor,” bravo to Mark Burnett and company for finding yet another way to rejuvenate this veteran reality/competition creatively. But speaking as the ultimate fan (who has yet to miss an episode to-date), I do hope Exile Island is given a rest. When a contestant is voted off, I personally prefer to see them bid officially adieu.
Earlier in the evening on CBS was granddaddy “60 Minutes” at a second-place 8.0/13 from 7-8 p.m.
Elsewhere, Fox got a boost care of the 15.7/27 for the half-hour NFL Football primetime overrun at 7 p.m., which led into a dominant 14.7/24 for post-game “The OT” at 7:30 p.m. Veteran “The Simpsons” got a lift with a third-place 5.5/ 9 in the overnights at 8 p.m., followed by “Bob’s Burgers” (#4: 3.6/ 6), “Family Guy” (#4: 4.2/ 7) and “American Dad” (#4: 3.3/ 5) from 8:30-10 p.m.
ABC, meanwhile, was on par with recent sluggish Sunday overnight levels care of “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (#3: 3.5/ 6), “Once Upon a Time” (#4: 4.1/ 6), “Revenge” (#4: 4.2/ 7) and canceled “Betrayal” (#3: 2.4/ 4). As a reminder, upcoming midseason drama “Resurrection” will debut in the Sunday 9 p.m. hour on ABC on March 9, 2014 (into relocated “Revenge” at 10 p.m.).

Hopefully both shows went up!!! any thoughts?
ReplyDeleteRevenge and OUAT down in HH's from last week, but of course they don't mean anything
ReplyDeletelast week once was 4.4/7 this week 4.1/6 what does this mean??
ReplyDeleteNothing at all.
ReplyDeleteHousehold numbers aren't an indicative of how well a show fared on the target demographic.
ok thanks i think scandal one week was down in hh but still up in demo
ReplyDeleteAs usual I will wait on the actual NUMBERS for Once Upon A Time, their mid-season finales are usual up anyway.
ReplyDeleteAt least he didn't add insult to injury in regards to Once Upon A Time this week such as for some reason feeling the need to place the show in a 'special catagory'
ReplyDeleteIt happened this past week. Scandal got a 6.4 this week - for the midseason finale, nonetheless - two tenths down from 6.6. a week earlier, and it still went up 2 highs, from a 3.0 to a 3.2.
ReplyDeleteFunny that Fox both surged more than 200 percent and also slipped some 40 percent!
ReplyDeleteElsewhere, is Betrayal already canceled? Not that I watch it anyway, but I just didn't see any official news of that.
Betrayal was left off the mid season schedule.

very lows #s for once/revenge
ReplyDeleteIt was a limited series of 13 episodes no matter what
ReplyDeletewow these are such low numbers for revenge and ouat
ReplyDeleteHe hates genre TV. Angel, Supernatural and others get the same special treatment. If the show is really critically loved (i.e. Buffy) or indisputably a hit (Lost, Sleepy Hollow) he finds a way to diss the show.
ReplyDeleteIf it was doing a lot better, it would get a back order like Under the Dome or even Reign this season.
ReplyDeleteon the bright side at least revenge held up pretty well and is as steady as rock now that it has been in the 1.5-1.6 range for the past 4 episodes
ReplyDeleteyup thats cuz it has a massive football lead in
ReplyDeleteOuch! Not good for OUAT.
ReplyDeleteNot Exactly.Sleepy Hallow and The Following were huge hits but didn't get backorders even though they were doing well.Carrie Diaries is the same way, intended for 13 episodes a season even if it was a big hit.The 100 is the same way.Under got renewed I know, but I didn't know it got more episodes. If they wanted to have the option of giving Betryal a backorder they wouldn't have announced it as a limited series or more importantly had a replacement ready(Ressurection) for when it finished,Wheather it did well or not.Same thing with Wonderland, they made it so it would have an ending, only be 16 episodes a season no matter how it did, they also had a replacement ready for when it went on Midseason hiatus.Betryal also has a close ended season ,with an ending of the who killed Lou?Who shot Sara? Stories wrapped up.
ReplyDeleteAt what point to Once fans need to worry about cancellation?
ReplyDeletehope ouat ajdust up
ReplyDeleteI feel like the damage is already done to OUAT. I liked a lot of individual moments in the finale, but the whole direction they're heading in, have been heading in, it's turned people off. Not surprised about the low numbers. I only feel terrible for anyone who's not a writer on the show, they don't deserve these ratings, they do the best with what they're given.
ReplyDeleteThen again, we'll have to wait and see if the numbers adjust up.
ReplyDelete@rhinemaiden they don't. It's almost guaranteed and 4th Season due to Syndication
ReplyDeleteBeginning to be scared of what might happen to OUAT and Revenge if they keep going down... :(
ReplyDeleteHo! What a release then!
ReplyDeleteWhat's Syndication? I think I've read about it but don't remember any of it -_-
They are both almost assured a 4th season. Beyond that is up in the air
ReplyDeleteI hate to see both OUAT and Revenge down! They had outstanding episodes!
ReplyDeleteNow it's time ABC works out some promotion; with OUAT taking a hiatus until March, ABC must promote it like hell; as for Revenge, it must be remarked in every single opportunity that the show is moving to 10PM in March. With any luck, if the promotion works and Resurrection does well, both shows can benefit a lot
that is something good; let's hope it keep those ratings (or increases) when it moves to 10PM
ReplyDeleteI know, it's sad :/
ReplyDeleteSyndication is refered as when a show has enough episode to be broadcasted in others networks (mostly cable) Monday through Fridays running repeats. This is a massive money maker for the producing companies, as they sell the show for each episode produced, and as such, if a show is about to reach the required amount of episodes for syndication (usually 88) they will do anything to keep the show alive. At the end of this season both OUAT and Revenge will be just 1 season away from syndication, and because of that, renewal is assured, because it's about to reach the 88 episodes mark on the next season and that will make up for any loses.
ReplyDeleteThese are depressing ratings for mid-season finales.
ReplyDeleteOk, so they get a 4th season and syndication. But beyond that, how low would the ratings have to get before the ABC execs decide it's not worth it? Or is that anyone's guess?
ReplyDeleteBoth of those shows were renewed though.
ReplyDeleteMost shows get 13 episode orders with the option of a back order if needed, they can either get an early renewal like in those cases.
I thought once upon a time would get at least a 2.0 as last week it got a 2.2 a real shame.
ReplyDeleteHOPE OUAT CHANGE THE DAY NEXT SEASON
ReplyDelete
