-Ratings Breakdown:
Lifted by a one-hour edition of “The Voice,” NBC dominated this second Monday in December and offered ample lead-in support to the season premiere of “The Sing-Off.” “The Voice” opened with an 8.5 rating/13 share in the household overnights from 8-9 p.m., which topped the evening and led into a 5.5/ 9 for the two-hour return of “The Sing-Off” from 9-11 p.m. Comparably, that 5.5 rating was 57 percent above the “The Sing-Off’s” most recent season-opener, which was a 3.5/ 5 on Monday, Sept. 19, 2011 (and at the time faced opening season night on the competing networks). Half-hour overnight breakdown for “The Sing-Off”: 5.5/ 9 – 5.6/ 9 – 5.1/ 8 – 4.7/ 8.
CBS finished a distant second overall with combination of repeats of “How I Met Your Mother” (#4: 3.3/ 5) and “2 Broke Girls” (#3: 3.4/ 5), an original installment of “Mike & Molly” (#2: 5.2/ 8), an encore of “Mom” (#3: 3.9/ 6) and another burn-off episode of failing freshman drama “Hostages” (#3: 3.4/ 6). As a reminder, upcoming drama “Intelligence” will premiere in its regularly scheduled Monday 10 p.m. time period on January 13. A special preview will air on Tuesday, January 7 out of “NCIS” at 9 p.m. ET.
ABC, meanwhile, finished just one-tenth of a rating point behind CBS overall with its line-up of a repeat of annual animated special “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town” (#3: 3.6/ 6), original special “The Great Christmas Light Flight” (#4: 3.6/ 6) and an encore of “Castle” (#2: 3.5/ 6).
Elsewhere, Fox dramas “Almost Human” and “Sleepy Hollow” scored an identical 4.3/ 7 in the overnights (but “Sleepy Hollow” will rate higher in the key young demos). And The CW populated the night with repeats of animated half-hours “Kung Fu Panda Holiday Special” (#5: 0.8/ 1) and “Merry Madagascar” (#5: 0.7/ 1) from 8-9 p.m. and original special “One Direction The iHeartRadio Album Release Party,” which bombed at a mere 0.4/ 1 (#5) from 9-10 p.m.

Wonder how Almost Human will fare this week. 1.5 maybe?
ReplyDeleteI was thinking it might get at least a 2.0 with basically no competition besides The Voice. But I'm probably way off, as usual.
ReplyDeleteThe Voice IS a big competition.
ReplyDeleteTrue.
ReplyDeleteAny guesses for how the Sing-Off does? I'm guessing high 2s or low 3s.
ReplyDeleteAlmost Human is up :D
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that Almost Human stopped falling. Hopefully, it will rebound like Agents of SHIELD did.
ReplyDeleteCould we have the first 0.0 in the demo by overrated boy boy 1D????
ReplyDeleteI guess we were both some what off.
ReplyDeleteJeez, there is a 0.0 on the table!!
ReplyDeleteI see a 0.0. X_X
ReplyDeleteThe CW finally did it unless it gets adjusted up.
ReplyDeleteThing is, CW might get more 0.0's today. For some reason they are repeating two of these already low rated iheartmusic things tonight, whereas they could have repeated Supernatural and the Originals and gotten 0.4s.

think it was a typo marc berman has half hours at 0.2
ReplyDeleteYes, but 1.8 still isn't that good, considering the repeats and specials it was against. JMO though.
ReplyDeleteWow seriously 0.0? Never saw that before.. Also really glad to see Almost Human up but there was pretty much nothing on tv.. could drop next week.. But hope I'm wrong!
ReplyDeleteTypo.
ReplyDeleteyes i know ! but AH stopped falling ! :D
ReplyDeleteI think if that was the case Sleepy Hollow should also be up and it wasn't. I dont know what to think of Sleepy Hollows ratings. It keeps going down even with limited competition.
ReplyDeleteABC was preempted in Chicago. So the ratings are most likely inflated.
ReplyDeleteWell at least Almost Human didn't go down and went up a little. Even though the Voice is big competition, it would have been pretty bad if Almost Human had went down this week when most of the other shows were done for the holidays. I can sigh relief a little, for this week.
ReplyDeleteTrue about Sleepy Hollow. But I wonder if Almost Human will go up again next week with new episodes of HIMYM and 2BG.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see Almost Human up! Not that a 1.8 is impressive or anything, but it's ok for FOX standards and it's good that it stopped falling. Now, if it falls back once CBS comedies return next week it could be a trouble if it goes lower than a 1.6
ReplyDeleteYeah, I don't understand the dropping Fox Monday nights has had. First time I see 2 shows (Sleepy Hollow and Almost Human) drop and drop and drop. *Sigh* Most of the shows I've watched become stable after a few episodes, then have a seasonal drop as the show gets older.
ReplyDeleteAn increase I doubt. Stable or only slight decrease in ratings/viewers (staying in 1.7 − 1.8 range) I hope for.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's my guess, too.
ReplyDeleteIt fills me with an immense ammount of joy to see something featuring One Direction to fare worse that the already horribly rated drama in that slot
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's possible if it stabilizes, going by the other shows (not counting Bones) on the network.
ReplyDeleteI like your "finally did it", as in we are all expecting The CW to collapse to the 0.0 level :P
ReplyDeleteThanks, it did come close with Cult getting a 0.1 before.
ReplyDeleteThis one is a typo though, so it's actually 0.2.
Really doubt it.
ReplyDeleteMy wise fellows, please explain if Sleepy is doing well. I can't tell.
ReplyDeleteIt got renewed for another season a while back, it's doing fairly well enough for the network so far.
ReplyDeleteThanks Eid!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteActually I usually go to the wiki page for the episode to see how the ratings go, but I was just originally wondering if at this point when it gets a 2.1 18-49 demo, is it good for a Fox standard? I guess it already got renewed already so I don't have to worry that much. Last night's episode was awesome!
Christmas specials are always considerable competition as well. I have grown to basically despite Christmas but even I enjoy watching those Christmas specials I grew up with. Santa Claus is Coming to Town got nearly identical demo numbers to AH so there's something to think about.
ReplyDeleteSleepy Hollow is still getting over a 2 in the demo in overnights and I haven't seen the DVR data for the last two or three episodes, but I know the ones before that were all hitting like 4.5, within just L+3, if it went from 2.1 to 3.1 that's still awesome.
ReplyDeleteI hope so, I loved the episode last night a lot.
ReplyDeleteIt is but i always take the L+3 with a grain of salt. The numbers that are more important to networks C+3 are very rarely published by networks. The L+3, L+7 ratings are usually used as PR fluff. But with no Voice and Dancing with The Stars i though Sleepy Hollow would rise back to 2.5. But at least it was adjusted up to 2.2 in finals.
ReplyDeleteYeah but somewhere, maybe Deadline at the beginning of the season, the article mentioned that now the networks can charge advertisers for viewers overnight and the three next days of DVR viewing, so they ARE getting money from the people who watch it by Thursday. :) I'm sure not nearly as much, but L+3 is much more important today than it was a couple seasons ago, timeshifted viewing is only going to keep getting bigger so those DVR ratings now basically HAVE to be considered in business discussions. (Although I would assume the execs mostly are concerned with the shows they at the network want to keep alive, kinda like Fringe.)
ReplyDeleteNo C+3 is still the most important in time shifted viewing. The advertisers want the viewers to see their commercial while watching their favorite shows. While L+3 is good indicator for the C+3, the C+3 is still the most important to the advertisers.
ReplyDeleteI get that. But, just saying it how the article phrased it. And the networks pay a lot more attention to a show's DVR ratings and viewings on other platforms and factor that into their decisions way more than people realize, whether or not they can directly monetize it, a show's overall popularity definitely has an impact, plus they DO get paid for more than the overnights. That's all I was saying. :)
ReplyDeleteNo show on FOX did better last week and the only show that has a slim chance of doing better this week is New Girl, so yes, it is awesome for FOX standards. No danger whatsoever ;)
ReplyDeleteYeah you're right, thanks.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I don't get why they do it.
ReplyDelete1.8 is fine for Almost Human, it would be renewed at this level. Do people realize the ratings that the other FOX shows are able to pull? Do you expect them to have enough new stuff to replace Glee (which will go to Fridays, so the effect is the same)/The X Factor 1/ The X Factor 2/ The X Factor 3/1.5 hours of comedy next year? Because that's what you are asking them to replace since you think Almost Human did bad. All this stuff is worst rated.
ReplyDeleteWell that's bad for the network but kinda reassuring for me. ha
ReplyDeleteThanks!
