-Ratings Breakdown:
Lifted by a one-hour edition of “The Voice,” NBC dominated this second Monday in December and offered ample lead-in support to the season premiere of “The Sing-Off.” “The Voice” opened with an 8.5 rating/13 share in the household overnights from 8-9 p.m., which topped the evening and led into a 5.5/ 9 for the two-hour return of “The Sing-Off” from 9-11 p.m. Comparably, that 5.5 rating was 57 percent above the “The Sing-Off’s” most recent season-opener, which was a 3.5/ 5 on Monday, Sept. 19, 2011 (and at the time faced opening season night on the competing networks). Half-hour overnight breakdown for “The Sing-Off”: 5.5/ 9 – 5.6/ 9 – 5.1/ 8 – 4.7/ 8.
CBS finished a distant second overall with combination of repeats of “How I Met Your Mother” (#4: 3.3/ 5) and “2 Broke Girls” (#3: 3.4/ 5), an original installment of “Mike & Molly” (#2: 5.2/ 8), an encore of “Mom” (#3: 3.9/ 6) and another burn-off episode of failing freshman drama “Hostages” (#3: 3.4/ 6). As a reminder, upcoming drama “Intelligence” will premiere in its regularly scheduled Monday 10 p.m. time period on January 13. A special preview will air on Tuesday, January 7 out of “NCIS” at 9 p.m. ET.
ABC, meanwhile, finished just one-tenth of a rating point behind CBS overall with its line-up of a repeat of annual animated special “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town” (#3: 3.6/ 6), original special “The Great Christmas Light Flight” (#4: 3.6/ 6) and an encore of “Castle” (#2: 3.5/ 6).
Elsewhere, Fox dramas “Almost Human” and “Sleepy Hollow” scored an identical 4.3/ 7 in the overnights (but “Sleepy Hollow” will rate higher in the key young demos). And The CW populated the night with repeats of animated half-hours “Kung Fu Panda Holiday Special” (#5: 0.8/ 1) and “Merry Madagascar” (#5: 0.7/ 1) from 8-9 p.m. and original special “One Direction The iHeartRadio Album Release Party,” which bombed at a mere 0.4/ 1 (#5) from 9-10 p.m.
