    I have to say I'm not liking this current season of White Collar. They are ruining the Neal/Peter relationship which I have felt was the heart of the show.

    I agree - I am so tired of all the artificial ways the show comes up with to tear Peter and Neal apart. It's really old. And Mr. Hypocrite Burke has pretty much snapped my last nerve. He has no problem accepting what Neal did to keep his cushy job, but he'll still screw Neal over as a "criminal."

    Burke is not the prototypical "white knight" who will follow a "pure" code of justice. But he's no hypocrite. He knows that the law needs to be bent but he also knows the point where it goes too far. But part of that means he also protects his wife from fallouts that he's at least partially responsible for.


    If you think Burke is a hypocrite then my response is you simply have looked at him as black or white. He understands the shades of gray and where the boundaries are in the shades.

    I disagree that Peter knows the boundaries, or that he applies them consistently. Just one example: Peter conspired with Diana to steal the music box out of FBI evidence. Yes, they STOLE it and replaced it with a fake box. That's not a shade of gray, and the music box wasn't even related to an actual FBI investigation. It was for the "greater good" of finding out what was behind Fowler and the plane explosion, and because Peter did it, it's all good. But when Neal steals something for the greater good of keeping Peter out of prison, it's because Neal is a criminal and can't help himself. That's a hypocrite. (And it pains me to say that, because the unlikely partnership and bromance has always been the heart of this show - until this season.)

    Sorry, but he totally is...it's his biggest fault. He keeps telling Neal to play by the rules, but he is very ready to look the other way when Neal bends the rules for him during investigation. One day he chews Neal out for sneaking around to get information, the next day he sends him in to do exactly that.
    Thus said...I still like the dynamic between them. It wouldn't be fun if it were always daisies and sunshine.

    I agree with you that this season isn't my favorite. I am generally ok with a little drama between partners, because (let's face it) it is boring if everything is always great and perfect. But it seems like they are on the same page for 5 minutes and at odds the rest of the season. And I am not okay with the writers constantly throwing in Neal's face that he is a criminal. Yes, ok, he is a felon, but he has worked hard to try to do the right thing (maybe not the legal thing). I get that they are trying to change Neal to be a little bit more how he was before the series started, it just seems off on how they are doing it.


    Peter, in previous seasons, was always some voice of what is moral and what is legal with both a carrot and stick, but in this season, he just seems to have the stick. I feel that we really aren't getting to see the fun Peter or supporting Peter at all this season. This is what is causing his biggest character break. Although he was in prison for some time - maybe how he is treating Neal is a way to separate himself from the entire thing.


    Hopefully now that some secrets have come to light, they can start to get on the same page and work together.

    As annoying as it is to have more Peter/Neal conflict (seriously these 2 and Sam/Dean on Supernatural just constantly have problems), I at least like that this one makes sense with Neal trying to help out his friend the best way he knows how, which clashes with who Peter is. So its refreshing to have a good reason for the conflict as opposed to "we need to have mistrust between these 2, let's just make something up."

    Still don't trust the redhead. Even if, in the very unlikely scenario, that she's not a bad guy or working with Hagen, I don't really care for her character and hope she's done by the end of the season. She's by far the weakest of Neal's love interests. Sara > Kate > Alex > Redhead whose name escapes me

    To each their own, but I just find Rebecca boring, bland, and the fact that I think she's working with Hagen doesn't help. I didn't expect to like Sara but she surprised me which is maybe why I like her best. Kate was nice and went too soon. And Alex, well Alex isn't as bland as Rebecca. Again to each their own.


    Yes the conflict last season was just thrown in there for really no reason. After Peter helping Neal out, after putting so much trust in him, should've solidified their friendship and trust. But nope, one little, tiny thing made it all go to hell.

    I wish I wouldn't be so mistrustful, because I really like most of the scenes between them. And I really like the actress. Sara always felt shoehorned in. Alex was fun, I wouldn't have minded her as on and off love interest, but since the writer preferred to give her a send off, I would have been okay with someone along the line of Rebecca, someone who is not always mistrustful of Neal but keeps seeing the good in him (I think he needs that). But I didn't trust her from the get go, and as eager as she was this last ep to pull a con, I am sure that she will betray him.

    Because of my suspicions, I feel that everything that she's been doing is forced. Like her interest in Neal (although I'm sure they'll go, even though I'm working with Hagen, I really do like you), and definitely her wanting to be in on the heist this week. So with that as my lens, all of what she does feels forced to me. Nothing against the actress though, she's fine, but I've never seen her in anything else before.

    I haven't either, and even if I had, I try not to judge actresses by prior roles, because sometimes they work in one role but not in another.
    For me, it makes her interesting...I mean, it is too bad that I am waiting all the time for the other shoe to drop, but she feels as part of the story and not just tacked on.

    I agree, just cause an actor/actress plays a particular character, doesn't mean they should solely be judged based on that character. I know people give Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister on Game of Thrones) a hard time cause she's Cersei, but that just shows how strong of an actress she is.

    Oh, I don't watch the show....I used to read the books, but the fact that there is so much sex and violence in it for the sake of sex and violence is off-putting to me. But in my experience there are actors who are great in exactly one kind of role, others, which have a wider range and sometimes even a good actor won't click with a cast for one reason or another. Well, naturally there is also a rare gem like Matt Bomer who, I am sure, would be able to play every role convincingly and adapt to more or less any cast.
