    Excellent episode, great characters development (Harold's flashback was cool and emotional), good action packed and awesome revelations.

    The best part of this episode was the revelation of the second machine, now they have a large story to follow.

    Harold and Shaw working together was great, but the fact they was capture at the end means Reese is a important part of the team machine.

    The revelation of Control was good to and make as a cliffhanger was effect, but not was a big surprise.

    Reese and Fusco fighting was hilarious.

    Person of Interest is in a strong place right now, I think Reese will be back soon to help the team and this episode was the perfect gift before christmas.

    I already love Camryn Manheim as villain.

    WOW, that was freakin' awesome!

    I really loved seeing Shaw and Harold work together for a change while John is MIA. I hope we have more of those in the future.

    Woah, at there being a second machine! Now I'm definitely intrigued. I can't wait to learn more about Samaritan in the second half of the season.

    What a major plot twist in that final scene! I was not expecting that. We finally have a face to who Control is!

    LOL, at Finch and Reese fighting outside the bar. That was great.

    I seriously can't wait to have this fantastic show back in January!

    Mind blown. I simply don't have the words. As the reveals came fast and thick in the final 15 minutes, I found myself shouting out and gesticulating wildly as each twist unfolded.

    Two Machines? Amazing reveal. Also, at the end Harold's Machine was evaluating Samaritan's chances of conflicting with its operations.

    There were two projects mentioned as decoy. One was a sly slap at PRISM. The other decoy was named BULLRUN. Guys, any idea what BULLRUN could be?

    I found it weird that he did not remember her at all, he screamed everytime she tried to talk to him, but yes this season is developing into something truly good

    I have been thinking for the past few weeks - How can they top the 3-parter? And BOOM! They did it! I totally suspect the wife issue, but the final reveal still got my jaw dropped! And I have to wait till Jan 7? It will be a cruel holiday season!! haha!

    Best episode of the season for me!

    Although, suspecting Manheim would play "Ma'am" ahead of time made the twist pretty obvious.

    Plus, Reese off on his own made me immediately think that He would need to come back into play and rescue either Finch or Shaw (as it turns out he may need to rescue both). Most likely with a little help from his old frenemy Root.


    The combination of those two things made me anticipate the ending well before it occured, but I still loved the scene! Manheim is so brilliant she did not betray her role in any way like many actors do by either over-acting or under-acting the part.

    I loved the insight into Harold's past and his reasons for making a machine with memories! Also the NSA connection was nice to touch on and made for a nice connection to the COTW.



    The return of Collier and Vigilance - and this time Betsy Ross - was just excellent!
    I am always glad to get the seasonal serial arc in episodes and that means any Vigilance is a good thing!


    I had been wondering exactly where "Ma'am" fit into the various clandestine groups and to see Greer reappear and report to her was fun! I appreciated her not being a part of Vigilance as it sets up more layers and players on board.


    Seeing Fusco call out Reese was just awesome! XD
    Next week I expect them to don their cavalry uniforms and ride to the rescue... Unless Root does it on her own, but I hope not.

    Wow. Just wow. Mind officially blown....again. What a great episode. The idea of having 2 machines is great. And what a way to introduce Ma'am. I didn't see that coming. This certainly sets the direction for the 2nd half of the season and opens up a lot of doors.

    No, I think that Bulb like memory which Finch created in his childhood was meant to foreshadow how Root communicates with the Machine, because even if she kept cell she can't talk to Machine because of Faraday Cage so it has to be some kind of Morse Code.

    Medium episode. Shaw was boring as usual although useful and a good link to relevant world. We have many interesting storylines.

    Fusco vs Reese was quite good match. Of course Reese was better but Fusco survived quite well when he came close to Reese

    Next coming AI vs AI match.

    LOVED IT! POI IS ON FIRE RIGHTNOW!!! Always love when the do end of episode scenes set inside the Machine, wonder how the hell they do that! Great seeing Saul Rubinekon screen so early and before the final season of Warehouse 13!

    There are any number of ways the machine could send messages to Root. For example, it could send messages in morse code by flipping the street light outside of her window on and off.

    With this episode, it seems like POI may be turning back into the show I fell in love with. I didn't really like that last 3-episode mini-arc on Carter's death all that much. There was too much contrived melodrama, for my taste.

    Exactly how I feel!


    That three episode arc was way too melodramatic for me and really not at all like what POI has been in the past 2 seasons. This episode got back to the formula that made the show a hit.


    This is one of the first time's this season that the A-plot was front and center and carried the show.

    I think it was beautiful writing on their part, because yes he has a tumor and yes "memories" then come and go an manifest in "mysterious ways", but also because he obviously knew deep down inside, as he was finally able to remember, that she wasn't his wife at all!

    LOVE LOVE LOVE this episode. I take all of my criticisms back from those earlier episodes this season. These past few make up for them by leaps and bounds!


    Finally our "Ma'am" (Ms. Penn) reveal!! And such a cool way to introduce her! XD
    Love that Finch's father and his memory problems are what drove Harold to build the machine and how they used his MIT buddy, now with memory problems, as the connector to past to future and the reveal of another [possibly more advanced] machine, !he Samaritan (what a name!)!!


    LOST parallels: Benjamin Linus had a tumor, until Jack (The one in Lost who was obsessed with "fixing" things) removed it. And actor who played Arthur Claypool was Michael Dawson's attorney when fighting with Susan in court. (He's also Donnie from Frashier!)


    Revolution: Another Revolutionary War reference via The Vigilance.


    Can't wait to see what happens in the second half!! The Fusco and Reese scenes were great! And really liked Shaw in this episode!

    YEAH! Sometimes it doesn't matter what you know. A good scene's a good scene!! XD

    I'm glad about that too! It's cool that she has her own team! It keeps everything fresh and unpredictable.

    I think we have a 3 week break, but I do think you're right and Vigilance is more likely to come to the rescue (sort of), as they might be the closes by, but I could see Root coming along too, as I think neither Mrs. Penn or Vigilance will be on our side, only occasionally convenient! :D

    Well I like the other 3 because of where it puts everyone on the board. I was hoping her death and the demise of HR would signify a great turning point and give the audience some acceptability to crazy-killer characters like Shaw and Root (and maybe by extension Reese, if he starts fighting for Carter's memory and/or slips back into the guy he was when he was with Stanton) by pointing out just how dangerous this reality is becoming.


    I found this episode met may expectations and hopes much sooner than expected, and I am so happy about it! :)

    I've been thinking that the story surrounding Carter's death might actually have worked better for me if they had done it during the second half of last season...for example, after Carter had gotten Reese released from FBI custody or after the episode in which Kara Stanton put him in that bomb vest. I remember when Carter said to Donnelly, "But he (Reese) is a GOOD man! He helps people!" At that point, I could have bought into that deep connection between Carter and Reese that they were trying to sell us two episodes ago.

    I'm with you, as far as this episode is concerned. Regarding Carter's death, I thought that either the timing or the build-up was wrong (see my comment below). Lately, the most intense interaction between Reese and Carter was typically something like "Sorry, that you're in mortal danger, Carter. Can you run that plate for me anyway? Thanks and take care."

    It would be interesting to have Vigilance come to the rescue!

    Vigilance would have a reason to go after them. Afterall they are trying to stop the sharing of information and ISA wants a second machine to have as their own. IT would not be the first time Team Machine (should it be team Samaritan? XD) has worked with their opponents to fight a more immediate danger. They worked with Elias, Root and HR in the past... Why not Vigilance?

    Speaking of a second machine.. your opinion?

    Most people on here seem to think there is already a second machine.


    Personally, I thought that the second machine (Samaritan) was never completed because Harold completed his first.The reason Control (Ma'am) asked Arthur about the machine's drives is because the machine was never finished, but those drives could be used to complete Samaritan.



    Basically to me Samaritan is another scrapped project in the government's garbage heap, but ISA could reverse engineer Samaritan with those drives and the knowledge they have gleaned from Harold's machine.

    I just had a re-watch and found some interesting continuity notes I missed on first watch..


    - Arthur says "They came for Samaritan February 25, 2005" .
    That is one day after the Machine officially went online and the day Ingram signed the contract.


    - The actor that plays Harold's father played Paul Kinsey in Episode 1x12 Legacy.
    He was a foster parent collecting money for kids he did not care for.

    Great idea about Vigilance helping Team Machine!

    I thought so about the Machine, but I think the Machine's animation in the end of the episode makes it clear.

    So it appears there are a FEW Machines, some of them active, some not, and the Samaritan's status is unknown (also to the Machine).

    One thing I assume is that our Machine is the most sophisticated one. Maybe it's not the only true AI, but the only free one...?

    Awesome episode. I knew that Diane is Control because of two things: she was on the top of "Guest stars" list in the press release (whereas it's a POI who is listed first usually) and the producers confirmed she would appear by the end of the year... But the revelation about multiple Machines? This show is getting more and more surprising and just CRAZY...


    Person of Interest > everything on TV after Breaking's Bad finale, period.

    Yeah I think Harold's machine was the first to be completed and put online, all others were not as successful or complete at that time. I would think some were scrapped, but maybe others were worked on even after their government contracts were closed.

    I wonder if there are other AI type machines that are active or if the Machine was tracking various less sophisticated intelligence gathering systems... like Echelon etc.

    So far every agency we know of used Harold's machine for their numbers as far as we know, right? Every agency seemed to be searching for Harold's machine to use it as far as I recall.

    Arthur said his machine was never completed before the government shut him down, but he also hinted that he knew what they wanted to do (kill his machine) so he made contingency plans...

    It will be interesting to see how it turns out next episode!

    Especially considering the title Aletheia which means state of being evident , unconcealed or truth. Something big should be revealed!

    * Death: [Redacted] Alias: Shaw, Sameen (I thought it's the real name) - 85,05% !!!
    * There is more than one Contingency... I wonder if that refers to our Machine.

    I can understand why you feel that way, but I think her death is perfectly placed to mark a change in the tide.

    I totally can buy Reese's regret, because I think Carter represented his sole and returned him to the good person he wanted to be and so to loose her, was like loosing that part of himself. -But Carter wanted to do what she did and he respected that. It wasn't just like she did what he said. She matters into her own hands and after finally admiring he cared deeper for her than he ever had fully professed and having her just die like that in his arms on the street took away everything he thought he was working towards...

    Since root gave Harold the number, can't we suppose that she already it from when she was talking to the machine back at the start of the season, and she waited for the right moment (Harold being "alone" without John) to give him Arthur's number ? And everything is just another twisted plan from this twisted yet hot woman ? (I was thrilled to see again the scene where she shot a bunch of agents in the introduction flashbacks ^^) A plan set to put in motion all the great villains of this season, just in time for the Xmas finale ? ^^
    Can't wait to see how all of this will end, and this second machine !

    Right, I doubt Vigilance would set out to help Team Machine...
    I was thinking Vigilance would be going after ICS/ Ma'am/ Arthur Claypool more than deliberately helping Team Machine.


    In the chaos I could see Shaw and Finch escaping or even helping Vigilance temporarily. The enemy of my enemy etc....


    I still think it more likely that Root or Fusco and Reese will come to their rescue.

    Yup, the title is quite telling - both of them, in fact.

    But I was a little wrong about the other machines. It appears that ALL the names used in the ending animation (except Samaritan of course) are aliases/codenames of real projects. You can find them in wikipedia:

    Genoa, Genoa II, Tides, Thinthread, Trailblazer, Able Danger, Stellar Wind, Prism, Bullrun, Fairview, Genysis, FutureMAP (the last two only mentioned by Arthur).

    Some of them are active, some deactivated, the machine is able to 'decoy' many of them (even one deactivated - Trailblazer) and Samaritan remains the only one which status is unknown.

    Conclusion: I doubt they would call real projects AIs - they used real codenames for a reason - so the Machine and Samaritan might be the only inteligent projects. And Samaritan able to hide from Finch's Machine? That's more than interesting!

    This show always has excellent episodes. Loved the guest stars! Arthur and Control are already so interesting. I wonder if the second machine is controlled by that other group that rescued, then employed, Kara Stanton? Also, by what Arthur said, Harold has always been the best, so Harold's machine should be better than Samaritan.
