Not sure. Sometimes a slower, less action packed episode can be good on some shows. But I just felt a bit bored by a lot of it, maybe cause I was expecting Brody to die, and I was expecting him to go down in a blaze of glory. Him accepting it was a nice touch, he was able to redeem himself I think. Alas, decent finish to a season with some ups and many downs.
I don't think (till now) I ever debated between voting an episode 'awesome' or 'awful', but holy f*ck that broke my heart. What an episode. It's odd how I completely expected IT, and yet I wasn't prepared for it. What does this show become now?
I thought this was a fantastic episode that was contemplative and poignant in the way the show wanted the first half of the season to be. Full thoughts and analysis here: http://polarbearstv.com/2013/12/15/homeland-the-star-review-3x12/
I saw the finale earlier, it was sad. I think everybody who watches Homeland, even people who don't watch it, knew what was coming, but it was still very sad. Seeing Carrie watching Brody's death was so sad, it had me in tears. So did the ending with the star. IMO, Season 4 will be great, now that they can almost start over. No Brody and almost no Jessica, Chris & Dana will be great next season. I can't wait!
-Who planted the bomb. -Multiple Moles/Terrorist's identities that have been involved in EVERY season with leaking information or influencing outcomes
And Dana's storyline is way too open with respect to her Psyco BF, Saul's current status is a mystery along with Quin's future.
I'm cool with leaving stuff for future seasons but not answering any of the mole questions (like who tipped off in season 1 so that she changed her flag @ the white house) while adding more in subsequent seasons and answering very, very few if any is kinda strange. The whole Dana saga could have been handled so much better... the ending of this episode just seemed off and "unfinished."
I did not like it, was it a subliminal message, it was slow, no twist no turns, the brody hanging seemed a little strange to me for some reason, it was quite, now carries simple ass is going to give her baby up for a job., I mean I can't, I am a little pissed off
You know, I get all the hate for the episode. It felt like I finale for a series and I understand why some people didn't like it all. But I thought it was great. It had suspense, anger, sadness. I have NO idea what they are going to do moving forward so in that it wasn't amazing, but in itself it was great. Showtime cannot proceed with this show unless Quinn and Saul stay on in a big role. Period. I think the future of the show has potential but seeing at how bad Showtime messed up Dexter, I'm crossing my fingers.
Like S3 as a whole this was an odd finale. I am glad Brody is dead because I feel like the show needs to move on from all of that plot and start with a new threat and it seems like it will. I thought the final moments he had with Carrie were lovely and also her drawing his star on the wall at the end. But then some of the finale felt a bit strange, like we had lots of episodes at the beginning of the season focussing on Dana and Brody's family which weren't that great but the one time seeing them would have made sense (after he dies) and we don't get their reaction? I would have liked Carrie to have told them he died a hero.
Also after spending time with Quinn he has been left at the sidelines these last few episodes, same with Fara. I hope we see more of them next season.
It definitely felt more like a series finale and maybe it should have been. S4 is going to be interesting in many ways and I have faith that the show can regain the quality of S1 and early S2 now it has less baggage to deal with.
Ok so the beginning of season 3 was crap, it felt like a soap opera, it was just ridiculous. The whole Dana thing was completely unnecessary. Then came episode 5 or 6 and the show began to feel like Homeland, it had good writing, it had suspense. Everything was going right and it felt like they repaired the horribly executed beginning but here comes the final episode. And oh boy do they fail. Killing Brody? Yeah great job, you just killed one of the characters that made your show. Look I understand that they didn't know what to do with Brody in the next season, but seriously killing him is the only thing they can come up with? Do they believe people will continue to watch the show now? Killing Brody could've worked if this was the final episode of the show and if it was done in another way but this is just stupid.
Awful. It felt more like a 'series' finale rather than a 'season' ending. No cliffhangers, no ambiguous scenes: I don't know where they wanna go now with this in Season 4 ... And, c'mon, killing off Brody? Really? Maybe not all people, but certainly a lot of viewers watched Homeland for the Carrie-Brody (+ Saul) interaction. I hope sincerely there will be a sort of twist at the beginning of S4 and Brody will be shown alive (in some sort). But this fact will be clear if/when we'll learn about the hypothetical commitment of Damian Lewis in the upcoming season.
I knew it was coming but I was hoping to be wrong. It was a good way for Brody to go if it was necesary but I was really hoping for him to stay, I loved his character and I think it added something special to the show. I definitely hope this doesn't make Homeland loose awesomnes.
This was the only way to go! They had done everything they could with Brody's character. Really...I don't understand why people say they quit now that Brody's gone. This show was never about him, it was always about Carrie! (btw they are still people out there that think he's not really dead...sad.)
Well, they could have had him secretly in a harness, so that the people were satisfied with his hanging, but I really don't think that was what happened. I was secretly hoping that they would fake his hanging, but Clare Danes always seems to play a "star-crossed" lover, and I suspect that this was no exception. It was a very sad episode--it seemed for a moment that Carrie would get Brody back, but it would have been a pretty impossible situation if she'd succeeded in saving him.
By the way, they wouldn't have lost me if they had saved him.
Like most of Season 3, a rather slow and tiring episode. It was kinda disappointing. With Brody finally killed off, Season 4 could be a fresh start for the show.
ya... even before the show started I was like wait what it won't work like that, don't fucking link him to 1 enemy who once dead leaves him with no purpose... this season could of changed that with him being in a marine state, which led to him working CIA jobs oversees for a while for his freedom. but nope its over...
Either for hope's sake I hope Carrie keeps the baby or at least her family does, and that she stops sleeping with random guys... I mean if ur gonna go random I rather you hit Quin lol.
That was one of my major issues with this season of Homeland, the intermittent story arcs.
WE had Dana and Jessica as focus characters and then they disappear, so we can focus on Quinn more only so he can disappear. It felt like the first half of the season had little or nothing to do with the second half of the season.
Did we need multiple episodes of Dana so that Brody going to see her would pay off? No.
If they ask viewers to invest in arcs and characters early on in a season they should continue those arcs through the season IMO. Otherwise it feels disjointed and like wasted time.
That has been an issue for all 3 season I think. What happened to the mole introduced in Season 1? Who delivered the bomb in Season 2?
Both were major issues in their seasonal plots and both were left unanswered the following year.
One could argue they somewhat answered the bomb delivery this season, but I disagree. Each time they discussed it and gave the audience information that information was coming from a biased source. They had reasons to say what they said so we cannot know if they were being truthful or using that information to gain favor or leverage etc...
That would be the only way they can get away with it. There would be no reason to trust anything they do if they ever bring him back. Every part of the script would lose all credibility.
pretty sure that was who made the bomb... remember Carrie confronted Jevadi AFTER the motel incident about co-conspirators that even Javedi wasn't completely in-the-know-of?
I think they didn't have a lot of plot for S3 and didn't want to get to the Brody goes to Iran storyline until late in the season so made up all this useless crap to drag it out. Then decided once again the show was about the big epic tragic love story between Carrie and Brody and forgot about the other characters (apart from Saul).
I don't know if I believe that they would follow through with this, but, in an interview that I read with the showrunners, they said that the mole might never be found out, because that happens sometimes in real life. I would actually kind of prefer if they didn't reveal who it is at this point, because who could it be that would mean anything to the audience?
I guess he was both, at some point in the epsiode they said he was the bomber, otherwise why silence him? if he only had built the bomb he would not have been such a threat I think
I think this was possibly the best episode of the season - it wasn't the most action-packed admittedly, but it brought the show back to the characters, most specifically Carrie. Keep this up next season, PLUS the action - and it could be a very good year indeed.
Brody had to die, of course, and it was done beautifully. I think one small scene with the Brody family reacting to the news would have been good though, even if it was just a wordless family hug or something. I would have liked to see Fara again too, but hopefully she'll be made a regular next year so we'll see more of her then.
All in all, a pretty strong end to a mixed season, that did an important thing for me - made me care about Carrie again and made me look forward to next season.
To be honest I'm done watching the show. For me it's dead. Brody's death annoyed me not because he died but because the way he died. I have no problem with Brody dying if he sacrifices himself and this was the end of the show. For example he decides to sacrifice himself to save Carrie or to save the mission. That would be a redemption for him, it would be his decision. But the way the writers did it was just asinine. The fact that Brody wasn't in this season that much was a clear sign that the writers had no clue how to write that character. They didn't even know what to do with him.
Well, that was rather dissapointing. I'm not going to say I hated it, that would be a lie, but I didn't like it either although it did have it's moments. One thing I'll say, I honestly hope she doesn't give up that baby, I agree with her sister, it may be what she needs to finally get her act together for good. That my opiniĆ³n, at least.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

Absolutely not. Unless Showtime wants to lose every viewer.

yes we know who planted the bomb, the guy who was shot in the motel!

ReplyDeleteLike most of Season 3, a rather slow and tiring episode. It was kinda disappointing. With Brody finally killed off, Season 4 could be a fresh start for the show.

It becomes the "Carrie" show. Which I'm not that happy about. I sure hope they bring on some good characters next season.
ReplyDeleteyup, I remember theories about Saul being the mole in season 1. And now we are left with no answer and probably won't ever get it...
