Things will get a bit hairy on Once Upon a Time when the ABC drama introduces its take on Rapunzel.
And filling the iconic role, TVLine has learned exclusively, will be ill-fated Originals witch Alexandra Metz.
Metz will make her debut in the 14th episode of Season 3 — aka soon into the second half, which premieres March 9 — and though nothing at this time is confirmed, there is always the option for additional future appearances.

Interesting choice. She doesn't really have the long, unkempt (blonde) hair that Rapunzel is known for, but they could always use a wig or have a very different background story for her.
ReplyDeleteShe's pretty! Can't wait to see the show's take on Rapunzel.
ReplyDeleteThis is the same show where Mulan's in love with Sleeping Beauty (and that needs to be requited soon). Their different take on fairy tales is really nice.
ReplyDeleteShe's look like Tiana. Not Rapunzel..
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! Glad they changing it up and making Rapunzel a WoC! She's a great actress from what I've seen and gorgeous too!
ReplyDeletedoest lancelot look like "lancelot" at all ?
ReplyDeletei wonder how they gonna take the history back to the enchanted forest.
ReplyDeleteNot what I expected but excited to see how she will fit in. Part of me hopes they make her evil.
ReplyDeleteSame here - for the not expected part. But I loved her acting in Chicago Fire, so I'll wait impatiently for her to prove herself :D
ReplyDeleteF*ck Yeah! This news made my day. Praise the Lord!
ReplyDeleteI agree that the different takes and spins are nice, Mulan/Aurora is one of my favorite arcs on this show. I'm not saying they can't cast a black actress (if that's what you thought I was implying). My point was that in the Disney version, Rapunzel's hair can't be cut because it has magical healing properties that die when cut. This actress doesn't have that trademark long hair, so either the story has to change (which is fine) or she has to wear a wig (which is also fine).
ReplyDeletewtf she's black!!
ReplyDeleteBut... Rapunzel is meant to have long GOLDEN hair... as in BLONDE... this girl ain't blonde, and given her skin tone, a wig won't exactly look natural... Unhappy.
ReplyDeleteAre you talking about the Disney movie from a few years ago?
ReplyDeleteNo need for that racism.
ReplyDeleteI see it took only slightly longer here than over at tvline to get out and out racist. And in accurate.
ReplyDeleteHer hair's not long enough.
ReplyDelete(Kidding, kidding...)
Are we seriously discussing the fact that the actress doesn't have long, blonde hair?!
ReplyDeleteBecause Colin O'Donoghue for example is a spitting image of Disney's Captain Hook(same goes for a LOT of other characters on the show)...
I may be one of the only people that were prefer not to have anymore new unnecessary character introduced. The spend to much time introducing new characters and focusing on there story once and not enough time building present relationships and interactions with current characters. Why can't be have an episode where there is actually foward movement of character development instead of what happened in the past.
ReplyDelete"meant to have"? Really? You're missing the entire point of the show which is to reinvent the characters.
ReplyDeleteChange from what? Not being exactly the same as the Disney story is good because whenever OUAT follows the DIsney version, it's weak.
ReplyDeleteThey should just say they're basing on the story that the Grimm Brothers stole it from.
I just hope that her wig looks good (better than Snow's).
ReplyDeleteI was actually hoping we would get Rapunzel this season.
They can make her hair glow regardless of her skin colour, it is called CGI.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, I believe there are far too many characters already and some good characters are almost doing "cameos" and not being used, so I am against new characters for a while... but I have a soft spot for Rapunzel and I'm glad we get to see her. I actually hope her storyline just intersects with someone else's in a flashback and we don't have her character developed right now, but leave it for next season maybe.
ReplyDeleteFinally, Rapunzel!
ReplyDeletewe don't even need CGI for that XD
ReplyDeleteseriously guys who cares about her skin color or hair color ? it's a modern adaptation, remember they casted a black lancelot and aurora isn't blonde...i just hope she portrays the character well.
ReplyDeleteI saw in another thread about closure with some characters being ONLY revealed in interviews with the creators. Well, what good is THAT to fans of the show that don't follow the interviews??? Seems like lazy story telling to me. Let's see some other stuff entirely resolved before tossing new stuff into the fray!
ReplyDeleteI've seen a lot of vocal fans talking about POCs on OUAT only being evil or short-lived, so I hope Rapunzel isn't either of the two. That said, I'm nervous this show is adding too many characters and can't decide whether or not I hope she's regular or just has a short arc.
ReplyDeleteWTF SHES BLACK??? Yeah, this is just weird. Don't you still have Tiana for that?
ReplyDeleteYay! I'm glad we get Rapunzel finally. Actually I'm nicely surprised. I didn't expected her this season. My guess is that she will meet with Neal and the team in the EF.
ReplyDeleteWell, that is without a doubt some gorgeous hair she has, and since I don't think they are going to pass on using it, I'm guessing she is in Storybrooke already and if we see her with a long hair wig it will be on FTL flashbacks.
ReplyDeleteI'm not too bothered with the lack of blonde magical hair; that's just exclusive of the Tangled movie, and OUAT already takes liberties with Disney property.
I am kind of excited of seeing a obsidian/onyx version of the rampion bellflower, man it would be gorgeous.
The racist comments o. tVLine are disgusting.I,for one, am looming forward to this gorgeous woman being Rapunzel!
ReplyDeleteFINALLY!
ReplyDeleteSeriously. The amount of "I'm not happy with this choice but I'm not RACIST" over at tvline, simply because of her skin colour, is horrific.
ReplyDeleteIt`s nice to see a change from the original character! i can bet she is gonna be a bald or a shot haired woman instead of her huge hair! could be interesting!
ReplyDeleteit`s OUAT... they dont fit the characters exactly like a book said they a re doing it in their own way, i for one would like to see this Rapunzel getting tired of her long hair and giving herself a haircut really short!
ReplyDeleteMARCH 9TH??? WTH ABC??? I thought the break was like 6 weeks or so?
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure everyone is aware of that. They chose to change it up, like they've done with pretty much all of the fairy tale characters!
ReplyDeleteThere were Arab and African Knights Of The Round Table in some versions of the Arthurian legend, so a black Lancelot makes total sense, especially if the only other reference the show makes to those legends is a fake Excalibur... as for Rapunzel, my favourite version is in the old Doctor Who serial The Mind Robber, which also had Bluebeard, Gulliver, and several creatures from Greek myth, all sharing scenes in each others' stories :)
ReplyDeletewhat racism? saying that blonde hair with a dark skin tone looks unnatural? that's no racism, that's just true...
ReplyDeletelol, hvae you see OUaT's cgi?
ReplyDeleteIt's a pretty important detail is all. It's like if Regina fed Snow a poisoned avocado..
ReplyDeleteRight . Racial micro-aggressions about a character that doesn't need to have blonde hair because she's black.
ReplyDeleteA pretty important detail in what way?
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised, I've seen it quite a bit in this fandom but it's still depressing every time.
ReplyDeleteJust look at the person right below fixating on "GOLDEN BLONDE HAIR" as if hair colour makes a single iota of difference unless they're upset that the character isn't white.
Jeez. Calm down. I just think so.
ReplyDeleteI'd just prefer a blonde Rapunzel. You don't gotta.
ReplyDeleteAnyone else think Taylor Swift was going to be Rapunzel when Adam Horowitz tweeted a congratulations to her with the #spoilers? I wonder what role she'll have...
ReplyDeleteRapunzel is actually based on a 10th century Persian folktale in which the female protagonist Rudaba had a long black braid. So technically Rapunzel has the hair she's supposed to have. And I'll take better representation over another blonde any day.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, it's like, stop pretending the hair isn't code for your problem with her skin color. It's disgusting.
ReplyDeleteSo? She's an actress and it's nice that OUAT is providing better representation.
ReplyDeleteThere are things called 'wigs'.....
ReplyDeleteto each their own.
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with Snow's? I think Ginny looks beautiful with her long hair on. :)
ReplyDeleteDo you think the episode will be called "Tangled"?
ReplyDeleteRapunzel isn't suppose to be black. No offense, but this always is Tiana for that. Just saying.
ReplyDeletewhich he mentioned.....
ReplyDeleteSo once they have Tiana on the show, they can check off the 'PoC' option on their checklist and never have to worry about having another PoC fairy tale character on the show again, because their quota is filled? Did you know that the Princess and the Frog princess isn't originally black, but Disney wanted to introduce some diversity into their films? How is this any different from that? (Hint: it's not)
ReplyDeleteI usually didn't mind her wig, it looked good. But the one I've been seeing on set photo lately looks kinda cheap.
ReplyDeleteIt is one thing to have fake looking hair on Snow White, but on Rapunzel? Rapunzel's hair is pretty important for her story, so the wig should be really good and natural looking.
