Jim Gaffigan Comedy Pilot - Adam Goldberg to Co-Star

21 Dec 2013

Adam Goldberg is set to co-star opposite Jim Gaffigan in Gaffigan’s CBS single-camera comedy pilot from Sony TV. The project, co-written by Gaffigan and Peter Tolan, is inspired by Gaffigan’s real life and stars the comedian as Jim, the happily married and harried NYC father of five. Goldberg will play Dave Reedy, Jim Gaffigan’s best friend, a die-hard New Yorker and stand-up comic who lives next door and is always at hand to give Jim the benefit of his neurotic counsel.

  1. Jim Gaffigan, Michael Ian Black and Adam Goldberg? This is too good for CBS.

  2. So Adam Goldberg is playing the obnoxious stereotype he always plays? That's unfortunate. The last two TV roles he had were so good (especially The Unusuals). It's a shame neither of them worked out. This doesn't sound like he'll be offered much range, but at least he's getting another chance to be on TV again.

  3. Oh, much better. Still, I'm not sure Gaffigan, Black and Goldberg will be able to express their full potential on CBS, they'd be much better suited to cable, like FX (or FXX).

Even if CBS can do good single-cam comedy, they're proving it this season with The Crazy Ones, which also has a pretty amazing cast (Robin Williams, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Hamish Linklater, James Folk, Amanda Sutton, they also have Brad Garrett recurring).

But you can't do risqué, raunchy, weird comedy on CBS, and Gaffigan/Black/Goldberg tend to be very good at that, from what I know, but we'll see.
