  1. Aw, that was cute! Can't wait until we find out The Mother's name, though. Still driving me up the wall.

  2. Tracy. That's my bet.
Watch the ending of episode 1x09 and you'll get that.

  3. That's not it. Ted was just joking.

  5. Sure he was. But the kids believed it, till he said he was kidding.
If her name was not Tracy, they wouldn't have believed it in the first place.

  6. Why? It totally makes sense.
The kids believed him, till he said he was kidding.
If her name was not Tracy, they wouldn't have believed him in the first place.

  7. But I don't think he said her name out loud to them. It may be "Daisy", though, the name of an upcoming episode, but not entirely convinced of it.

In the pilot, Ted didn't mention Robin's name to the kids, which is why they were so shocked when he said "And that's how I met your Aunt Robin" (or something close to that).

  8. Exactly. He didn't say the name of Robin. And they know their mother's name is not Robin. If it was, they could have believed it was their mother (even though he said "aunt").
In this case, imagine the mother's name really is Tracy. He says the name, he says that that's how he met the mother and they are shocked - they believe. As I said, if her name was not Tracy, they wouldn't have believed him and wouldn't be shocked.
But yeah, the explanation could be that we heard the name, but he didn't say it to the kids.

  9. He was joking about her being a stripper - that's what they were shocked about. It's been a while since I saw the episode, but I'm still pretty sure he didn't tell them her name.

  10. I believe it is implied that what we see is what he says to the kids. And we saw the stripper (it was not a joke, the girl in that scene was a stripper) tell Ted her name. It indeed is in that episode, go check it :)
    (I just did too.)

  11. Yes, the stripper told Ted her name, but did Ted say it to the kids? That's the point here, and it seems like he didn't.

Therefore her name is NOT Tracy.

  12. While we found out that the girl Ted met in the Pilot was called Robin, the kids didn't, which is why they were surprised when he told her that "And that's how I met your Aunt Robin". Similarly, Ted might not have told the kids that the stripper was called Tracy, but e found out her name.

  13. Well, as I said, I believe it is implied that what we see is what he says to the kids. It's the principle of the show.
Otherwise, would only what Bob Saget narrates be actually said to kids by Ted in 2030? That would leave out the majority of the story over the nine seasons.

  14. You're right, but that somehow contradicts the theorem I mentioned below - it is implied that what we see is what he says to the kids. It's the principle of the show.
    Otherwise,
would only what Bob Saget narrates be actually said to kids by Ted in
2030? That would leave out the majority of the story over the nine
    seasons.
If not, then how does one tell how much of what we see Ted also says to the kids, and how much he doesn't?
