Hostages - Episode 1.12 - The Cost of Living - Review

With only three episodes left, Hostages is slowly preparing for its endgame: the assassination of the president.

But in order for that to happen, there is something else that has to be done first. After all, Duncan needs some time alone after the president flatlines during surgery. But Logan is no longer in charage at the Secret Service (I guess he was demoted after his foolish fall from last week, LOL!). Instead, an agent named Cahill is now the head. So Blair, who has kidnapped Duncan, is ordering him to discredit Cahill (again a somehwat too quick conclusion to last week's cliffhanger). So Duncan asks a co-worker to arrest Cahill with some hooker. But the plan doesn't go as planned when Cahill shoots the FBI agent. Even so, Blair is happy with the result: discredit Cahill and have Logan in charge.

Meanwhile, Brian goes to the police to expose Duncan. But when Burton shows up showing a photo of Ellen and Duncan kissing, Brian decides not to tell the truth. Instead, he asks Morgan to steal a phone from a friend, and later calls Nina to tell her the truth. Nina is shocked to learn the truth, and in the ends decides to confront her husband.

Elsehwere, Ellen is getting back to normal when she has surgery. It is nice to see some focus on the Sanders again. Today, Ellen is operating on a criminal who killed a cop. While one of the nurses is ready to give up on the murderer, Ellen pulls through and eventually saves his life. After this, she decides that she cannot kill the president. This will undoubtedly have far-reaching consequences for her and possibly her family.

Duncan's team suspects that Sandrine is holding something back from them. Archer suspects she is working for the other side. So they decide to use fake information as bait. And indeed, Blair later asks Duncan to the dummy name, thereby confirming Sandrine is working for Logan. She also plants a bomb under the cars of Kramer, Archer and Duncan, which are set to go off after the president dies. Speaking of betrayal, Vanessa is working on a plan to get rid of Blair and become president instead of first lady.

As we are getting closer to the end of the series, things are getting closer together and plans are falling apart. We are all curious to see where it leads and what will eventually happen. This episodes sets things nicely in motion for the last few episodes.
