Hostages - Episode 1.11 - Off the Record - Review

This week, most of the action on Hostages took place in New York, where Duncan and his team tried to prevent the sniper team from killing the president. In the end, they succeeded in doing so. But what was more of a surprise this week, although you could see it coming, was Duncan and Ellen sharing a kiss!

I didn't doubt for a moment that they would get it done. Sure, they had to go through some trouble to discover the location of the sniper. This included Ellen asking Samantha for the blueprints of some buildings in New York. It was nice to see some moments between the two women and Ellen explaining something from way back in episode 4. Unbeknownst to the rest of the team, Sandrine was also causing trouble as she was, for a short time, conflicted about what to do. Logan offered her and her son two fake passports and some cash earlier that day, as long as she provides him with inside information. As much as she loves her son, she also loves Kramer and would not betray him, so she did the right thing by taking out the snipers. Plus, Logan looked like a complete fool when he fell on the ground. The president's remark was hillarious!

The Sanders family didn't have a lot of action this episode. Brian, Morgan and Jake were locked up in a room, during which they chatted a bit about not giving up. I really like Brian for being so strong and still thinking he can go up against Duncan. I am sure there will be more tension between Ellen and Brian now that Ellen gets so close with Duncan.

As I've said before, everything on this show has consequences. We already see part of the consequences for Duncan's trip to New York at the end of the episode. Duncan is then kidnapped, and as we learn from the promo and photos, Blair is behind his capture. I'm also curious what it will mean for Sandrine now that she more or less turned Logan's offer down. I don't think any of them will die yet, but I am not sure they will all survive through the end. And we only have four episodes of this great series left!

A minor side story this week involved Kate, Nina's mother, who was ready to expose Kincaid for what he did (i.e. he raped her). Fortunately for her, Burton was able to convince her not to do so. I am really glad Burton did not have to kill her as that would be just another innocent person having died in the master plan.

What did you think of this week's episode? What consequences will the New York trip have?
