I agree with everything except for Supernatural, it's true sometimes they go over the edge but they have episodes that make you laugh, episodes that make you cry, and overall some pretty good quotes.

The Vampire Diaries: If there's no explanation, I'm punching writers.
Usually I would agree, but I've felt everything post-Season 5 has been subpar for the most part, with very few good episodes. But this season, especially the midseason finale, has made me question why I'm still watching the show.
ReplyDeleteI know a lot of people that have just stopped caring about SPN. All my family members, friends, some online fans I knew all just keep trailing off. I still have a small group who still love it, but I can't say that I'm in that group. I personally continued watching post S5 (with attention to the fact that it was becoming increasingly lesser as the narrative went on) thinking that it will have its kinks here and there but will overall redeem itself in the end. There were places in season 6 that really had a lot of potential but were revealed to be red herrings and useless tangental plots that not only went nowhere but retread the same storylines again and again, whilst they increasingly diminished the appeal of the characters themselves, who they were and what they stood for. This trend has continued through seasons 7-9.
ReplyDeleteDean was my favorite character for years for quite a few reasons but the last 4 seasons have been him yapping at Sam like a nag, spitting out dated references, becoming less of a resourceful, instinctive character and more of a caricature of himself. Meanwhile, Sam has literally relived the same thing over and over and over again usually at the expense of him actually having a voice in the situation, or being duped into something, or being used as a tool to meet the demand of another character. They've had nice ways of handling things here and there, some good episodes, guest stars, etc. that have kept me from bailing out, seasons 7,8, and 9 all start out with promise, but then they just fall prey to the same old thing.
Before I rant on any further, I just want to say, as a fan since the first episode (not stating for bragging rights, stating for the fact that when this show started I was a freshman in high school and at this point in time I've already finished college) it is becoming so stale to see this scenario play out as it seemingly always has. I will only continue watching this show to see if there's anything bright on the horizon (this show DOES still surprise me sometimes) and since I'm almost 9 years in, I can't stop now. Not till it's over.
I have hope that different, more thoughtful writers will handle the upcoming spin-off series. I hope that works out.
Well said on all points, spoken as someone who does care about the show, yet is conflicted with the quality. I only joined in during Season 4, but still, I loved the first 5 seasons, season 5 being one of my favorites. With Kripke writing the show for 5 seasons and Swan Song delivering a truly phenomenal ending, everything after has been rickety at best.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, the seasons usually start out with promise but then falter early in and stumble for the rest of the season. But usually there's been something that interests me enough to keep me coming back, and that's typically been the midseason finale. I mean we had Death come back in the 6th season midseason, and Death's Door in the 7th season midseason.
But Season 8 between weird Sam and Benny and boring episodes, and this season being no different, I'm beginning to lose faith that the show will amount to anything since Season 5 concluded. And you're absolutely right about Sam being used more as a tool to meet the demand of another character, typically Dean. The show really has become "The Dean Show (and the brother too)."
Arrow: I loved Barry.
ReplyDeleteOnce: I hope they switch back Henry soon.
TVD: I missed Matt, Bonnie, and Jeremy.
Grimm: I'm liking Juliette now.
The Originals: Hayley's family story begins to annoy. Progress please.
The Mentalist: Jane and Lisbon's reunion aaaaaaawww!!! ♥
ReplyDeleteThe Walking Dead: Michonne finally killed the Governor!!
Supernatural- Full of twists and surprises.
ReplyDeleteArrow- New character introduction= fantastic. Threats 4 Oliver!
Your The Original's review has 8 words. :p
ReplyDeleteThe Walking Dead: FINALLY, the show came back to life!
ReplyDeleteHomeland: Same as above, but without undead pun.
Once Upon A Time: Best possible ending to storyline. But not.
Masters Of Sex: That moment when your husband is gay.
Person Of Interest: No new episode. Still best on TV.
Mob City (episode 1): Simon Pegg plays comedian. BUT DRAMATICALLY.
To counts as a word? :P
ReplyDeleteYeah, lol
ReplyDeleteBegins annoying sounds worse to me, so I'll stick with the to :)
ReplyDeleteNikita: Every episode is better than the previous.
ReplyDeleteDracula: I like the idea of Mina/Lucy.
I definitely agree with your Person of Interest one.
ReplyDeleteDidn't she just stab him and leave him alive than that woman (I forget her name, but the one he met a couple episode ago) shoot him in the head?
ReplyDeleteAlmost Human - Glad Rudy got extra screen time
ReplyDeleteTBBT - Raj makes great husband; Wheaton back - yeah!
Goldbergs - Still perfect combo of heart and laughs
Trophy Wife - Yeah for Diane; Jackie was terrifying
Sound of Music - Kudos to NBC on high rated gamble
Wonderland - Not near enough Red queen time
Crazy Ones - Gordon makes everything better
Elementary - Both Sherlock AND Captain/Bell/Watson correct
Arrow - Susanna Thompson is THE reason to watch
White Collar - Best writing of my shows this week
Grimm - Not enough Monroe, but Hank rocked
Grimm - Love Juliette's character development this season.
ReplyDeleteyeah you're right! I forgot about that! but he would have died anyway because of the blood loss I think...
ReplyDeleteanyway I wish the woman didn't shoot him.. so zombies would have eaten him!
I thought of that also, but then he would have just turned into a zombie. This way he is gone for good.
ReplyDeletewell that's true....
ReplyDeleteagree for the most part though I didnt like season 5, found Swan Song to be boring. Season 6 was appalling and 7 forgettable, I found Benny and Amelia to be easily forgetable too as was the whole first half of season 8 not to mention many episodes in the second half. I basically liked some scenes from a few episodes in the second half and other than the season 8 premier and watching Jared's brilliant acting have found season 9 to be quite dull too.
