  1. What about Dean and Castiel??

    ReplyDelete
  2. Seriously, this poll? you trying to start a war here isn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  3. I'm gonna go with Sam and Jessica.Other than that,Sam and Sarah.
And now I'm gonna go as far away as possible from this poll.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Judging from the majority of the options, the person who created the
poll was probably going off of canon established ships, not fanon (though there
are a few like Sam/Bela and Cas/Anna that would also technically be fanon). Either way, it's just a poll. It's not meant to offend ships that aren't listed.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Dean and Cass are not an official ship, but friends .... otherwise if you follow the fantasy, should have put other ship, as Wincest or Dean / Benny.

    Megstiel of course :)

    ReplyDelete
  6. Where's my otp? Destiel all the way

    ReplyDelete
  7. Agreed - there could have been an 'Other' option.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I voted for John/Mary, naturally, and Sam/Jess because they were adorable in the pilot. I've never had another ship for Sam, and I know I'm in an extremely minuscule minority of loving Dean/Jamie from 4x05 Monster Movie. It was only one episode but she left a lasting impression and after RPing her character for a few years, it's my headcanon ;).

    ReplyDelete
  9. Yeah why isn't Destiel here too? As for it being only canon ships when was Meg and Cas a ship? They had a creepy kind of conversation and that makes it canon??

    ReplyDelete
  10. What don't you understand about "User Submitted Polls" ?

    ReplyDelete
  11. ...they actually /did/ kiss, you know. just saying

    ReplyDelete
  12. Charlie/Gilda. Canon and cuter than all of these. Except maybe Sam/Jess.

    ReplyDelete
  13. They've flirted and kissed in S6.

    ReplyDelete
  14. it's clear that this only shows to het couples, though it kind of makes me wonder with its usage of the word 'ship', which is very closely linked with queer couples instead of het. would've voted crowley/cas and dean/cas in a heartbeat, but oh well

    ReplyDelete
  15. LMAO SPN ship and no Destiel? Who made this poll? If there is the ship that is Destiel, dear.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I've always been very fond of Dean/Tessa but I voted for Meg/Cas.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oh, I see Destiel haters in action ;)

    ReplyDelete
  18. I forgot about Charlie and Gilda! They were indeed cute!

    ReplyDelete
  19. It says very clearly in the post who made the poll.

    ReplyDelete
  20. That was a rhetorical question.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Uhm, why isn't Dean&Castiel on the list? As far as I know, Castiel&Anna for example didn't have any romantic involvement either, yet they're on this list?

    ReplyDelete
  22. ninguna ¬¬ DESTIEL!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Because obviously the person who submitted the poll didn't want them on there. Pretty obvious.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ah, okay, I see now it was a "User submitted poll".
They could include "Other" option though...

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yes they could of but didn't. It's optional when you submit a poll.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The one not listed I liked was Sam & Sarah, they were perfect together. Went with Dean/Jo, John/Mary, Dean/Anna, Bobby/Jody & Cas/Meg..loved the pizza man scene.

    ReplyDelete
  27. haters everywhere...

    ReplyDelete
  28. not happy about dean & castiel not being here

    ReplyDelete
  29. here.. downvoating pro destiels... and my comment???is deleted!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yeah, Sam/Sarah were so cute in S1. I was so happy that they were bringing her back -- only to kill her! I still haven't forgiven the writers for that.

    ReplyDelete
  31. A downvote is not HATE, be serious. It's simply someone disagreeing. Sheesh. Do you actually know that the work HATE means?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I voted John and Mary, Bobby and Jody and Dean and Jo. I would have added Cas and Meg too, I liked them together, they had a wonderful chemistry and I remember Meg calling Cas her unicorn in her last episode. As to the ones I voted for, well without John and Mary there would be no Sam and Dean. I really enjoyed Bobby and Jody they were cute together, but I also liked Bobby with Ellen too. I liked the idea of Dean and Jo. Even though at first they started out kind of brotherly and sisterly, when Jo came back there was a maturity to her and I thought they could have worked if wasn't for the whole apocalypse thing and her getting blown up.

    ReplyDelete
  33. yes i know...

    ReplyDelete
  34. Cas/Meg is actually on the list, you must have skipped it by accident. Third from the bottom :)

  35. Back In Black Tricksteress 95November 10, 2013 at 12:12 PM

I was thinking of doing a poll like this before but glad you did it..very brave (some are going to not like this lol)
I don't ship but I am still taking a point on this and my perspective is what relationship was the best or in other words some were important and technically had chemistry.
    1. Mary and John- This one was important, this started the whole family business right?. Tragedy of how things went but we haveto remember there was some good times.
    2. Sam and Jessica- The relationship had potential and I liked her. Jessica is the right type for Sam, some-one who's got a sweet persona.
3.Bobby and Jody- If things went well these folks would've been lovebirds :)
    4. Dean and Jo- there was obviously some chemistry there, if Jo had still been alive the relationship could've taken off.
    5. Dean and Lisa- Lisa is definately Dean's type of girl.
Ok so I hope what I said is decent. I was thinking Castiel and Meg but I just didn't, it might be because of their race but mainly because I don't think Cas really can have a girlfriend to be honest. But if he does get a relationship I hope she isn't going to turn on him!. There always that possibility now that's he's human..
Sam and Amelia, if we seen more of her I may of voted for her. I really wanted for her to be a monster, so she could relate more to Sam. It was a sticky situation but least we got to see Sam can have a normal relationship. Unlike Sam and Ruby that is just cruel!, but its great for them in real life.
Other good potential relationships would've been Dean and Cassie and Sam and Madison and just possibly Bobby and Ellen.
    Ok I had fun :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh yay. Other people like Dean/Jo too :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. I wonder why it is always the destiel shippers who complain ..... it seems to me that in the survey also lacks Dean / Sam, Dean / Benny and other ship like this ....... it's so difficult to understand that it is a survey on the couples hetero?

You can not vote normally like everyone else and stop breaking?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Dean and Castiel, always. Of the ones mentioned, though, I chose Mary and John, and Sam and Jessica.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I want to hug the crap out of whoever made this poll for not including Destiel or Wincest.

    ReplyDelete
  40. The juggernaut ships of the spn fandom are Wincest and Destiel. This
poll mix canon couples and ships...and all het....Castiel & Anna, i
    mean ?...

    ReplyDelete
  41. Well, I'm not saying that the downvote means hate, but in this case it can't be a disagreement either. One person: "My favourite SPN pairing is...."; The downvoter "I disagree" ? so the person stating an opinion is lying or something? You can't disagree with whether I like sth or not

    ReplyDelete
  42. I have no idea which criteria were used to determine what is a "ship" here. At first I thought the main criterion was any kind of sexual interaction (a kiss, etc.) having happened at some point in the show, but that doesn't seem to be the case, considering Cas and Anna never displayed actual romantic interest in each other. In the end, it seems odd that the poll includes a random selection of m/f interactions that happened at some point on SPN, but excludes all m/m ships popular in fandom. I don't actually ship anyone on SPN, but given the selection offered in this poll, Dean and Cas should be in it, possibly even Cas and Crowley, and Dean and Aaron. All of these characters interacted in a way that could have been interpreted as eventually leading to sexual interaction, even though the actual deal never happened on the show. Which, incidentally, is also true for some of the m/f ships listed here. I do not actually like the term "no homo", but this poll is one of the grossest cases of "no homo" and LGBTQ+ eradication I have ever seen with regards to this particular show and its coverage by other media.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I want to give you all the cookies.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh, and I totally forgot that Charlie/Gilda actually kissed, while Charlie/Dorothy could definitely be read as romantic. Both pairings are much more of an actual ship than most of the couples listed in this poll. Which is even more proof that whoever set this up CONSCIOUSLY ignored every non-straight romance the show ever featured or implied. And yes, this is gross.

    ReplyDelete
  45. The characters aren't gay. No amount of fannon can change that. I would fully support more lgbt characters on the show, however fact of the matter is these characters aren't so why would they be included together in a ship?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Calling them the "juggernaut" ships is your opinion, just as this user submitted poll is a single person's opinion. Which is precisely the point of user submitted polls. It is not refuting the existence of other pairings.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Charlie/Gilda makes a lot more sense than Sam/Bela though.

    ReplyDelete
  48. can't vote, 'cause my favorite ship - Dean/Cas - is not included ! 'no gays allowed' it seems.
    thank you f******** much.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I vote for Dean/Castiel, dear poll maker, and I'd like to take this opportunity to wish you the worst of luck in your effort to heteronormalize Supernatural. :) Even with your impressive list of het ships, oddly enough you managed to leave out the only one I like: Sam/Jody.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Oh I loved Charlie and Gilda haha. But I suppose Bela was more of a reoccurring character, and Sam had sex dreams about her I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I wish you the best of luck in understanding the point of user submitted polls.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I am honestly sick and tired of SOME Destiel shippers implying that everyone are freaking homophobes because we don't see two straight characters in a relationship. Honestly calling everyone homophobes because we actually watch what is included in the show and not in our delusions is absolutely disgusting.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Cas and Anna seriously? His sister?? Anyway.. I'd say Dean and Castiel but there's no option, since this seems to be a only heterosexual ship poll. The only ship I love in your list is Sam and Jessica :) I really liked Sam and Amelia too. Too bad they didn't follow through with them.

    ReplyDelete
  54. First of all, it's a user submitted poll, so the choice is not one that we control. Second, yeah, it sucks that this is so firmly hetero, but given the fact that the show is heterosexist for the most part, I'm not surprised fans and general viewers follow along. Anyway, it's just a poll and has no meaning in the end. Will always vote for Dean/Cas though ;) For this one, my choice is Dean/Tessa.

    ReplyDelete
  55. These are not opinions, but pretensions -. - In the survey there are no other ship but no one says anything ....... instead destiel shippers must always make the revolution nonsense, always putting a bad light on the fandom in general

    ReplyDelete
  56. It's refreshing to come across a Dean/Cas shipper with their head on straight.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Oh, Sam and Amelia... (I gave my vote to Bobby and Ellen)

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY there is no 'Becky and Chuck', 'Charlie and Gilda' 'Charlie and Dorothy', 'Krissy and Aiden', 'Crowley and Naomi' and 'Garth and everybody'. I mean it.

    ReplyDelete
  58. If you only watch what is included in the show, please explain to me why Cas and Anna are a ship. You know, I wouldn't mind a poll that lists only those couples which actually had some romantic/sexual interaction on the show. However, this is not that kind of poll. And there's my issue. You are welcome to read the characters in whichever way you want, but being able to picture a FICTIONAL character as anything other than straight certainly isn't a "delusion". I assume you know that bisexuality is a thing. Or that Castiel is CANONICALLY indifferent to sexual orientation (which, btw, was recently confirmed by one of the show's writers). So yes, I assume it is possible to hope for a m/m ship which involves a character that wasn't introduced as "gay" in episode 1 without this expectation being rooted in OOC-perception, or "delusion". Also, why does this poll exclude Charlie/Gilda, which was an actual relationship on the show?

    ReplyDelete
  59. I'm really tired of people acting like queer people don't exit, I exist and I have a right to be represented here, even though SPN is not best show for LGBTQA+ community, they still have Gilda and Charlie... So I just find this poll very offensive.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Actually, I'm downvoting the *whining* Destiel comments. If you're just on about Destiel as your favorite ship, I'm leaving you alone.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Gilda was in one episode. Had she been a recording character then I hope she would have been included here.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I'd have voted Cas/April (real April BTW). Went with Cas/Meg instead. Recently rewatched the scene where he took care of her. So sweet.

    ReplyDelete
  63. My fellow Dean/Cas fans are cool people. I think no one means any harm, but some people might have been confused that this is something that we deliberately do to enforce the straightness of Supernatural. The fandom already has enough problems as such, including the Powers that Be. So I don`t blame anyone for being sensitive when the dialogue about queer representation has become much more prominent lately (which is good). It`s not just a DeanCas issue anymore, so any new polls on media outlets might set people on edge, including queer fans of the show who would like to see more visibility in general, but also good one, not just side characters. There`s a reason why I don`t signal boost any polls or such things, because they are meant to be nothing more than a random fun activity. But I understand the outrage. Just repeating again. User submitted. Not reflecting the opinion of the website.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Ah, I see. So this poll was submitted by one single user and selected at random? I cannot say I find the choice to publish this poll, knowing this fandom's history, a little... problematic? ... but I can def. see the website's policy there. Nevertheless, while I agree the show is heterosexist in large parts, I don't think the same is generally true for most fans. Furthermore, I also doubt that the ships listed on this poll correspond to what the general audience perceives as "ship", so I agree that it doesn't say anything - except maybe about the person who submitted that poll in the first place...

    ReplyDelete
  65. It's a user submitted poll, not a concrete list of the only pairings that exist in Supernatural. Coming to the immediate conclusion that the poll maker must be homophobic because only het pairings are listed is jumping the gun quite far.

    ReplyDelete
  66. So you made several comments and jumped to conclusions without reading and understanding what this post/article was even about?

Maybe in future, read and understand something before commenting all over it. Save you the embarrassment

    ReplyDelete
  67. Where did I say anything about homophobia? The fact you jumped into /that/ conclusion I thought is concering though? Do you feel threatened by us?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Just for the record: I stand by everything I said. My opinion on the poll, the selection of couples and the fact it was published in the first place hasn't changed, just because it is a user submission. Also, the fact so many people defend and agree with the couples listed while shouting down others who politely commented on the weird selection tells an awful lot about society and people who watch this show - way beyond the person who set up the poll in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Seriously, I should just make my own poll :D. Dean/Castiel, Dean/Aaaron, Dean/Benny, Sam/Kevin, Charlie/Gilda, Charlie/Dorothy, Anna/Ruby, Dean/Sam, Sam/Gabriel, Lisa/me, Dean/Abaddon, Abaddon/Meg, Anna/Mary, Dean/Victor, Bela/me.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Exactly: not reflecting the opinion of the website. People need to remember to think clearly before going on a rant in a comment on one poll that is only meant for fun.

I wish I could meet more of them like yourself. Sadly the ones I come across simply assume that because I do not ship them, I'm homophobic, and that is disheartening as it couldn't be further from the truth. Anyway, thank you for taking the time to use logic.

    ReplyDelete
  71. he he :) Feel free to submit one ;)

    ReplyDelete
  72. That's great! I vote for Dean/Castiel, Dean/Aaron, Lisa/you... and for "Other" I want to add Sam/Jody and Castiel/Inias, cause they were cute. :)

    ReplyDelete
  73. In the past, people tended to use arguments against Dean/Cas that were clearly venturing into the "eww Dean's not gay, ur disgusting" area. Actually, I've written a long post about this as well and why certain arguments coming from the non-shipping side are super offensive to me. As long people are conscious of their reasons for not shipping certain things and checking their own often subconscious thoughts, everything is cool. I think the most valid and perfect and non-offensive argument against DeanCas should always be that people simply don`t see it. That they would perhaps even support queer Dean or queer Cas respectively, but that they simply see them as nothing more than friends. And that's an argument that I will always respect. Because it's okay not to see it. However, I'm also not surprised when people get defensive, because I've seen an exhaustive amount of very disgusting and blatant homophobic remarks against not just Dean/Cas, but the very idea of the main characters being bi, pan, grey-A. So yes, it exists. Combating those thoughts and still being respectful of the reasons why people ship and don't ship things is the status-quo for me.

    ReplyDelete
  74. CASTIEL/INIAS. I usually hate Cas/OC, but that works...

    ReplyDelete
  75. I'm upset we have been robbed of the chance of seeing Abaddon and Meg'interact. Now that would be interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Well, it does offend, because wow. /Wow/. That's some heterosexist bullshit.

Rape and sex dreams and absolutely /nothing romantic or sexual/ count as long as they're coded heterosexual! Good to know, OP. Suck down some more of that queer erasing Kool-Aid.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Yes, normalizing rape is definitely not portraying fandom in a bad light at all.

    ReplyDelete
  78. This show isn't about ships. It never was. No one ever gets involved long-term because that isn't what this show is about.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I have no doubt that it exists, as much as I wish it didn't. Just as much as some non-shippers can be anti-queer couples, the shippers themselves can in turn be just as nasty, so it's one big vicious circle.

Both sides respecting the other is the goal for me, too. The shippers need to remember that not all non-shippers are prejudice, and the non-shippers need to let the shippers ship whatever the heck they want! :)

    ReplyDelete
  80. No Destiel? Admittedly, they aren't canon. But neither are half the other ships on this list.

If we can do a write-in vote, I'd like to do one for Dean/Castiel.

    ReplyDelete
  81. No one, not even the creator has any right whatsoever to tell people what a TV show is about. Works of art are meant to be dissected and interpreted in many ways, enjoyed, but also criticized for their social issues. Supernatural is what people want it to be. You don't get to decide that and it's highly arrogant to do so. I would also tell the same thing to Jeremy Carver.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Well it wasn't intended to be about romance. That's what I'm trying to say. It's about 2 brothers hunting supernatural beings. There's no need for romance. The occasional hookup is fine but other than that this show doesn't really need to have romance.

    ReplyDelete
  83. As much as I love Destiel, I was disappointed when these two didn't get more time in the show. They're so cute! Here's hoping they get reunited when Charlie's hacking her way through Oz.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Well those... aren't great choices. This isn't even representative of the fandom (much less my ships) but whatever. Where's Sam/Dean? Sam/Lucifer? Dean/Cas? Michael/Lucifer? Sam/Gabriel? Anything?!

    ReplyDelete
  85. True. Also we need to remind ourselves not to throw people together into one box. The behaviors and attitudes of a few never should speak for an entire group. So yes. Hope that people still can enjoy this poll in their own ways. :) And if people want to have articles on queer-related issues on Supernatural, I trust our new writer to do it well *waves to Tessa*. I usually would do it, but yeah. Gave up on SPN lol.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I guess... I don't really get this poll. *confused at purpose and meaning* Oh well. Just a poll. Will stop trying to over-think it now. hah.

    ReplyDelete
  87. It's clearly explained in the post. It's a USER SUBMITTED POLL.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Indeed, for both parties. The poll is just meant for fun, I really hope it gets back on track soon! Nice talking to you.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Write-in vote for John/Missouri. OTP for life.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Cas and Anna were never a couple, so that would be fanon.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Haha, nice! That's one I've never seen before.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Geez, another stupid poll.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Charlie/Dorothy too - that was as canon as several of the choices here.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Yeah. I GET that. What I'm saying is I don't get why choose those ships and not others for the show, Supernatural. What makes that user choose those ships. It seems an odd choice of ships for Supernatural, considering the way the majority of the fandom would generally answer the question "favorite ship" wouldn't fall under a lot of these categories. And it's clearly a mix of canon and fanon, so it's not a "favorite canon ship" or "favorite het couple" or anything of the sort. So all I'm saying is the USER SUBMITTED POLL makes no sense in their choices.

    ReplyDelete
  95. What about Sam and Gert? They were cute together. lol

    ReplyDelete
  96. Where I pause is the word "fanon." You included a couple who were not canon.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I'll add Dean/Impala ;)

    ReplyDelete
  98. No amount of fanon makes Cas and Anna a couple either, yet they're on the list. If we're including them, then that opens the door for other relationships. Dean and Aaron actually had MORE canonical relationship than Cas and Anna. Aaron flirted with him. Dean wasn't sure how to respond. Edlund and the director said on the commentary that it looked couply. So does that make Dean and Aaron "canon"?

    ReplyDelete
  99. Yes, them too. Gert was very pretty, Sam's very pretty, and she could have handled Sam. She wouldn't have put up with any of Lucifer's crap either. She would have boxed his ear in.

    ReplyDelete
  100. This poll is ridiculous, so its results. Megstiel is vomiting.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I understand it perfectly, which is why I addressed my malicitations to the poll maker, i.e. submitting user.

    ReplyDelete
  102. As for Dean, of the people on the poll, I liked him best with Cassie.

Dean/Aaron are more canon than at least one of the choices on this poll, so that makes me free to vote for them too, which I will, as I thought they were cute and funny. Dean/Aaron together forever. The golem approves. The end.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Maybe these are simply the favourite ships of the person who submitted the poll and wanted to see which of their favourites others liked

    ReplyDelete
  104. Fanon ships in the poll:

    Dean and Tessa
    Sam and Bela
    Dean and Bela
    Castiel and Anna

Charlie and Gilda, on the other hand, is not in here. It's not about fanon vs canon, the poll simply excludes everything that is non-het. It's not about being offensive to the ships, since the ships are made my fictional characters. It's about being offensive because it's heterosexist at its finest.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Fanon ships in the poll:

    Dean and Tessa
    Sam and Bela
    Dean and Bela
    Castiel and Anna

Charlie and Gilda, on the other hand, is not in here. It's not about fanon vs canon, the poll simply excludes everything that is non-het. It's heterosexism at its finest.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I vote for Dean and the Poodle from this weeks episode I mean that eye contact said it all.

As I see it a poll is meant to be fun and the person who did this one chose what they wanted , others are free to submit a poll more to their liking.

    ReplyDelete
  107. When did I imply that? What I said was that the poll maker (submitting user!) seems to try to erase anything queer from Supernatural. All the ships are het, some of them in no way canon ships, and actual canon queer ships are not included. Nowhere did I mention homophobia, don't put words in my mouth please.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Can we do write-ins?

    Charlie/Gilda
    Charlie/Dorothy
    Dean/Castiel
    Dean/Victor
    Sam/Gabriel
    Sam/Castiel

All of whom have had significant canon interaction, and some have in fact had more interaction than a few of the het ships listed. I'll also note there are het ships listed in this poll that had little interaction, or were textually antagonistic, or showed very very little hinting of romantic interest, yet somehow they are more qualified to be included than canon same-sex encounters or ships like destiel with an insane amount of UST and hints that even TPTB have admitted to putting in (but everyone knows destiel fans are just crazy and how dare we even suggest that a "fave SPN ship" poll might want to include it, along with some others that aren't m/f).

I know it's a user generated poll and I think it's ok for a poll to appeal to only a certain segment of fandom, for example, slash polls appeal to slash fans. A poll like this will appeal to het fans. But "favorite Supernatural ship"--really? When the poll by its very nature has now excluded a huge portion of the fanbase and interest, and people making the excuse that "canon" is the deciding factor. Canon is clearly not the deciding factor, m/f was assumed by default to be the only pairings qualified to be included in this poll. "Favorite Supernatural het pairing" would be more honest.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Did Cas ever call Anna his sister? I thought it was more of a coworker relationship. I heard the brother relationship mentioned in reference to Dean and Cas though.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I never stated I thought it was as black and white as fanon vs canon. I hear what you are saying as yes, heterosexism sadly exists, but perhaps these choices were thought off the top of the head of whoever made this poll.
    - Or the person chose all het pairings and didn't specify that in the name of the poll.
    - Or the person who created the poll hasn't seen the 1 episode Gilda appeared in, which was only last season. Not every Supernatural fan is up to date on episodes.
    - Or maybe the person simply forgot to include Charlie and Gilda. Again, it was 1 episode.

There are several different explanations as to why Charlie/Gilda wasn't included. If you feel that offended by this user submitted poll, then you do not have to participate. To quote myself: Either way, it's just a poll. It's not meant to offend ships that aren't listed.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Considering 12 of these couples actually have some basis of canon on the show (even if that was a dirty dream or a marriage in an alt-world), and a few more had flirting if not a full-on relationship (Dean and Bela), I'm guessing that was the criteria - but I didn't make the poll.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Firstly, the show has grown into more more than just two brothers hunting supernatural beings. Second, romance has always been included in Supernatural, for example, Sam loved Jessica, John loved Mary, Meg loved Cas, and this romantic love played a huge role plot-wise in all these cases. So yeah, maybe you don't think romance is needed but the writers obviously disagree.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Dean and Tessa - not an actual "ship" because, well, Tessa isn't human. She's death in the guise of a a beautiful young woman. Still, Lindsey McKeon's terrific chemistry with Jensen Ackles and her ability to give Tessa an ethereal, otherworldly quality create a great dynamic between the characters. I've even seen a suggestion that their relationship is a metaphor for Dean always "flirting" with death - 1x12, 2x01, 3x16, 5x16 just to name a few occasions. He "should" have been dead many times.

Dean and Jo - more for potential than what actually was. The writing for Jo's character before 2x14 was atrocious, and the writers unwisely tried to push the romance between these two before establishing her as a person in her own right. However, in the wonderful "Abandon All Hope..." we got Jo's heart-wrenching goodbye scene with Dean, and the performance of both actors showed a world of "what if..." between the characters. Jo was someone who could understand Dean's connection to hunting and share that part of his life, which is why I think it was a waste not to give a shot as a couple. When she came back as a ghost in 7x04, it once again showed the care of both characters for each and how well Ackles and Alona Tal work together when they're given a good script, unlike in Jo's early episodes.

Sam and Madison - we got to see little of this pairing before Madison's tragic death, but what I saw, I liked in terms of chemistry. Madison's fun, flirty demeanor played well off earnest, shy Sam. If her character wasn't doomed from the start, I would've liked to see Emmanuelle Vaugier return and share more screentime with Jared Padalecki.

There wasn't an "Other" option in the poll; had there been, I would've picked Dean and Jamie from 4x05. They were sexy, yet sweet together and I really liked how Jamie reacted to discovering Dean was a hunter with a mixture of candor and kindness ("Your life must... suck"). She's another love interest i would'nt have minded seeing again if it made sense story-wise, although Supernatural's track record suggests they would only bring her back to kill her off.

  115. From fanlore : "A Juggernaut Ship is a relationship that is so extremely popular within a fandom that it dwarfs all other pairings in the amount of fanworks produced. It could also be considered the majority pairing within a fandom. ". I didn't use this from nowhere, nor it's represent my opinion. Otherwise, i wouldn't talked about wincest that i don't ship at all.
This poll is not refuting the existence of the others pairings but some choices seem really random to me and i'm bothered by the use of the "ship" word...
I wouldn't have care at all if it was only canonical couples like sam/amélia, mary/john etc...
I understand your point tough and the fact that is a subjective user poll.
This being said, as a random user, it's not what i excepted when i clicked on the link asking me what was my "favorite" spn "ship"...
Lesson learned for next time :/

    ReplyDelete
  116. Very well thought-out opinions, a good read! Also, I never thought I would find someone else who liked Dean/Jamie! I mentioned them way below but figured no one would concur! I loved the storyline (the girl actually saving the guys for once!) and thought they had awesome chemistry together. I would hold out hope of seeing her back... but I agree, I'd be afraid that she would do so only to die.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Madison and Cassie were in one episode as well.

If this poll was "couples I like", then I wouldn't disagree with it. It's the whole "fanon" part that I disagree with.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I know what juggernaut ships, but thanks for the definition in case I didn't.

And fair enough; it's not what you expected. No harm done. Some of the choices are incredibly random to me, too, so I just skipped them :).

    ReplyDelete
  119. The poll ends up being more hetero than the show, which is quite a feat. I don't think the person who did the poll is wrong. It's their poll. I just think the criteria for the poll is confusing.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I agree, but when this becomes about what's "fanon," then I am confused.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Well at least the submitter got you all discussing :) I just started watching season 1, so I don't know any of the ships other then Sam and Jessica for now I guess (cause I just watched only 4 episodes). Liking the show and hope it stays that way :)

    ReplyDelete
  122. I voted for Sam/Jess but my real favourite spn ship is Dean/Cas because that pairing is beautiful. The lack of queer ships included in this poll kinda sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Thanks. :) I think Jamie gets easily forgotten because she was a one-off in a show now entering its ninth season, no less. She gets lost among the hundreds of characters we've seen. I agree that it was nice to see a courageous female character who kept her cool in a scary situation and eventually saved the day. Also, the actress who portrayed her is very beautiful and has great on-screen charisma.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I wish I could give people the benefit of doubt, but considering how good part of the comments here are saying the poll is about fanon vs canon while ignoring the non-canon het ships in it... even if the person who created the poll wasn't being heterosexist, the response it's getting still is.

And when you name a poll "What's your favorite Supernatural ship?" it's expected it's representative of Supernatural ships. If it's meant to be about het ships only (canon and fanon) then name it "What's your favorite Supernatural het ship?". There, problem solved. But in a fandom where the most popular pairings are not included, it's fair to assume other more popular pairings were also at the top of their head too (because it's natural to think of SPN ships and think of Destiel and Wincest and Sabriel, even if you don't ship it or don't see it). Unless they're not a part of fandom, then fair enough.

I can't know for sure how the poll was created, but the comments are heterosexist despite the meaning behind the poll and yeah, they are offending me. I'm not gonna pretend I'm not offended for the sake of "peace" when what's happening here is just what happens in fandom all the time in a way larger scale.

  125. Cas and the real April never interacted so how would they even be a ship?

    ReplyDelete
  126. Uh oh. This one is going to be very controversial.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I chose Dean & Cassie, but I really don't have a ship on this show. I don't watch this one for romance.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Not really a issue for me . The girl was free to make the poll she wanted that is the whole point and that others are free to make a poll that they want . It all seems to of descended into something it did not need to .

    ReplyDelete
  132. Yes, Sam had sex dreams about Bela. It's also well known, as far as I'm aware, that dreams are not a direct reflection of one's feelings and desires. People have sex dreams with people they don't feel attracted to by a variety of reasons. So Sam having a sex dream about Bela doesn't make the pairing any more canon. You can interpret Sam as being attracted to Bela, I don't even really disagree, Bela is attractive; but it's not undeniable canon.

And I see you didn't explain the other three pairings. Also, like Peter J4 said, Madison and Cassie were in one episode as well.

    ReplyDelete
  133. I don't remember if Cas talked about Anna as his sister, but he doesn't have to. It's obvious, it's been known since the start that angels are brothers and sisters. And the fact that Dean calls Cas his brother and family doesn't make it incest, it just means that Dean cares about Cas the way he cares about family. He's not really his brother. Sam is.

    ReplyDelete
  134. The show has never revolved around romance and relationships. That's a fact. They are never going to be the center of the show. If you want to go around thinking it's all about finding love that's fine but you're probably not going to see much of that because it's obviously not their intention to go in that direction.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Did it ever occur to anyone that someone God forbid wants to talk about the hetero canon ships on the show because all everyone ever does is talk about their slash ships? Not everything has to be about slash shipping. Calm down.

    ReplyDelete
  136. I agree she's free to make a poll as she wishes. I just got the impression in these comments that this was about canon couples only. I don't see that in the poll.

    ReplyDelete
  137. I know some people said they had no chemistry but I thought they had plenty of chemistry. I liked that she stood up for herself without being hostile. I thought they were a good pair. If I knew she wouldn't be killed off I'd say bring her back.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Not all the choices in the poll are canon.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Seriously? A ship based on a sex dream is more memorable than a ship where the two characters bonded over a common experience and then kissed? I would like to ask the person who made the poll why the only canon ships excluded were same-sex ships. If this poll is only interested in discovering which heterosexual ships SPN viewers like and dislike, why wasn't it titled accordingly? Why is the title all-inclusive when the shipping options very deliberately exclude canon same-sex pairings in favor of fanon straight pairings? It's almost as though the creator is passive aggressively attempting to suggest that the only ships on Supernatural worth viewer consideration are straight ships, since straight ships with characters who never even got into the same romantic boat are worth listing while LGBT ships that actually sailed are not, Kind of like the poll maker places a premium on heterosexuality rather than on something as unimportant and irrelevant to shipping as actual romantic chemistry and romantic interaction.

And for the record, no, I don't ship Destiel and I'm not fond of the way that a lot of Destiel shippers conduct themselves. But I seriously question someone who can write up a list of canon and fanon ships and ignore, say, the relationship that Dean and Benny built up over a year fighting side-by-side in purgatory in favor of a ship based on a wet dream one of the characters had. And I hope I am not connected to the person who created this poll on any social media platform I'm a part of and that I never meet them irl.

That said, if I did have to choose my favorite heterosexual Supernatural ships, I'd go with Megstiel and Sam/Jess. Though I'm very disappointed that Bobby/Jo was not included because I really think that one had a ton of potential since Jo is attracted to men and Bobby is attracted to women.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Hey I didn't make the list but I'd say they are all mostly canon ships.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Yes but romances are always short lived and it's for a reason. In light of that I don't believe the writers disagree at all since they never allow those to last and dominate the show.

    ReplyDelete
  142. I agree, but when I saw some of those I got confused, as Cas/Anna and, to a lesser degree, Dean/Bela, I don't really see canon for. If those weren't on the list then I'd agree that it's just canon-based.

I do understand that people who don't ship Wincest or Destiel, or some of the other pairings like Sam/Cas, don't really have a lot of choices.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Where is Destiel? There should be Destiel. It has four years of evidence and subtext. Anyone in a basic English class can that. I don't care if you don't ship it, but it should at least be an option in order to get an accurate view of the public opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Cas and Anna are the same species and there are there are at least thousands of angels. Any references to all other angels being "brothers and sisters" I took in the same way as people fighting in a war calling the other soldiers on their side "brothers-in-arms" - not as a literal interpretation that there's a sibling-like closeness between all soldiers in a war. I don't think two creatures of the same species having a romantic relationship is considered incest. (not that I think Cas and Anna had a romantic relationship - just that it wouldn't be incest if they did)

However, when Dean told Cas he was like family to him, and considered him a brother, I took that literally - not that Cas is his brother, but that Dean really does think of Cas as family. This wouldn't be incest either should it develop into something different, but it does clarify the nature of Dean's feelings toward Cas.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Well I am. (In the romantic sense, since it's not happening.)

    ReplyDelete
  150. Anything with basic intelligence can see that you are delusional. Go back to tumblr.

    ReplyDelete
  151. I think Dean and Cas have a relationship that is difficult to clarify - I'd mostly classify it as a complicated friendship. I'm just glad they stopped saying brother, as I don't really believe Dean sees him as a brother, and that just creates more fan wars.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Even though most of them would fit the criteria, Dean and Tessa or Cas and Anna have nothing like this about them. So it can't be an overall requirement if all the pairings don't fit it. The only thing they all have in common is being het pairings.

    ReplyDelete
  153. The problem with these choices is that there isn't much chemistry/subtext between any of these characters on this particular show. The three characters prominently featured spend so much time on the road and exclusively with each other that no meaningful relationship could be formed between them and any of these other part time characters. We've only seen these once or twice on screen, have been mostly told (not shown) they may or may not care for each other. That's why it is so hard to pick from this particular list because there really isn't anything there and preference for one flimsy, non-existence relationship over the other isn't all that fun.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Um...most of these options involve dead people.

    ReplyDelete
  155. People need to stop attacking the poll submitter. She (I assume it's a she given the name) has the right to put in whatever options she likes, just like everyone else who submits their OWN poll. The fact that she didn't include any same-sex ships doesn't necessarily indicate homophobia, you know. If there were tons of canonical same-sex couples on the show, then I would agree that they're being specifically excluded, but there aren't. And as many here have stated, non-canon couples are all in the eye of the beholder. So the poll submitter included certain non-canon couples and not others, yes, but that's her prerogative. I sure don't see why Sam/Bela, Cas/Anna and the likes should be included in this type of poll, but the person who submits the poll can choose whatever they like.

I do agree than an "Other" option would've been helpful. I named Dean/Jamie as a ship I liked, and it wasn't on the list. Still, the lack of such an option is no reason for the poll submitter to be tarred and feathered. If you think the poll is lacking, why not submit your own?

We really need to stop getting so worked up over stuff like an internet poll about ships in a TV show. There are much bigger things to worry about in the world - real homophobia, with real consequences, being one of them.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Why can't you disagree with someone's opinion again? Poster: I like cake. Voter: Up vote=I like cake. Down=I don't like cake.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Your point of view concerning Cas and Anna or any other angel is interesting, I hadn't thought of it that way before. I always saw them as brothers and sisters literally. I think both can be possible. It's just that, for me, Cas and Anna really had no romantic chemistry on screen and since I saw her as his sister, I didn't understand why they'd be considered as a ship, when other pairings (not necessarily dean/cas but dean/benny for instance) have a lot more potential, yet weren't mentioned.
As of Dean seeing Cas a brother, I agree. That's why I love their relationship, because family don't end with blood.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Whomever made this poll just want to see the world burn.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Yeah, he once said "like a brother to me" so he doesn't see him the way he sees Sam of course. I think no one can really replace a real brother's place, ever. But that doesn't mean that he doesn't care about Cas, it's just a different type of feelings.

    ReplyDelete
  160. DEAN and CAS!

    ReplyDelete
  161. If I fundamentally disagreed with the creator of a show on what a show is about, I would seriously reconsider my interpretation. They wrote a show, they developed themes, messages, characters. You can't take what they say it is, and go I think differently and I'm right because you are interpreting something that someone else made. I could drive my Ford into a lake and go "I thought it should be a boat" but that ain't gonna make it float.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Oh, and purposefully ignoring any non-straight ships, even the ones with canon gay characters (tho why would it matter, this is shipping) NOT COOL, and that's just tame because of the comment policies.

    ReplyDelete
  163. They all considered God their father, but so don't religious people. Except for the arch angels, in which more of a family structure was implied, I don't think the angels had traditional human-like families. Before God disappeared and free will was introduced, they seemed to be more like robots who weren't supposed to have individualized thoughts and emotions.

I actually liked the chemistry between Cas and Anna. I never thought of it as romantic because that's not how the angels are. Apparently the submitter of this poll thought they had more potential.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Castiel and Meg :) Guys, don't fight. This is an awesome poll, with the personal choices from the person who made it.

    ReplyDelete
  165. The word "ship" is not linked to queer couples anymore then it is to hetero couples. Ship is a general term used for all relationships. Slash is a term used for queer couples.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Clearly, there are other ships than Destiel too. And way to be condescending with the "dear" at the end.

    ReplyDelete
  167. loved the sort of poetry in the relationship between the boy from heaven and the girl from hell. Cas/Meg certainly had chemistry

    ReplyDelete
  168. I gotta think not including a ship of two guest stars from one episode isn't so much ignoring the LGBTQA+ community. It's like not including Isaac and Tamara. Doesn't make it racist. Just makes it one person's list of ships--it might not be your list, but that doesn't mean they have a malicious hidden agenda because they are different than you.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Well, in this case I see it more like: I like cake / no, you don't. But of course you can see ir diffeerently than me :)

    ReplyDelete
  170. Why do you think that Dean/Tessa is not an actual "ship" because Tessa isn't human? Why would that be any kind of hindrance for a relationship on Supernatural? It just really seems like a weird reason to me, especially on this show, so I would like to hear your reasoning. I personally don't think the non-human characters on Supernatural are any less real then the human ones just because the are demons/angels/Death/whatever. I liked Dean/Tessa very much and I was actually really hoping at one point that TPTB would get them together.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Bobby and Jody, Sam and Jessica, young John and Mary, Dean and Jo.

My guilty ship was Castiel and Meg. ha

    ReplyDelete
  172. There is not a lot of options with living people unfortunately.

    ReplyDelete
  173. You're asking me to explain why a human being can't have a romantic/sexual relationship with what is essentially a ghostly apparition that travels around and reaps the souls of the deceased? "Tessa" is a merely a form the Reaper takes to communicate with those it wishes to reap, since not all of them go willingly. Remember her explanation to Dean in her first appearance, about how he (understandably) freaked out when he saw her true form so she had to approach him under the guise of another patient in the hospital? In truth, Tessa isn't even a "she" but an "it". So I can enjoy their dynamic very much, but the idea of romance between them doesn't even begin to make sense. That's how I see it, at least.

    ReplyDelete
  174. For me: Dean and Jo. Dean and Bella. Bobby and Helen.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Who's asking for romance to dominate the show? No one. All I'm saying is that it is there, and it is important. Saying Supernatural doesn't need romance is ridiculous, it's like saying spn doesn't need humour, and maybe it doesn't necessarily need either of those things, but they're both important parts of being human and I'm happy that supernatural includes both because it makes the show more interesting to watch.

  179. Free speech, she has the right to put in any option she wants, and we have the right to say why her poll is not okay.

Anyone who has an ear to the ground in the fandom knows this is a thing, and kind of a big one. This is a fan site, for the fan community; what kind of reaction do you expect if you alienate a big chunk of the fanbase? that's not cool.

For whatever reason, SPN attracts a lot of LGTBQIA individuals, and those are large chunks of the fandom. You might not like what they like, ship what they ship, but the willful exclusion is what I take issue with.

And there's no of justifying it.

Was it absentmindedness, did the poller only meant it for hetero couples? Maybe, but intentionality only gives you so much leeway, you still end up with a poo storm.

  184. Dean / Bela is also canon because of the "angry sex" part in Red Sky. They may have had a very antagonistic relationship, but sex was brought up. I don't get the Dean / Tessa or Castiel / Anna.

  185. I ship Destiel and any other ship that has Lucifer because he's just so sassy and would make every ship interesting and hot and worth shipping. I can just imagine Lucifer slamming Castiel against the wall and using the Angel blade to carve the devil sign into his shoulder blade while saying, "I wonder how Dean would feel about thisss...."

And do you know how loud Lucifer can make Anna scream? I assure you, my dears, very, very, veryyyyyyy loud.

    Moving on...

    Civil comments:

There is something quite off about this poll.

At face value, the poll includes both Canon and Fanon ships BUT there are NO homosexual ships, which is kind of disturbing. Actually, pretty disturbing.

    Very disturbing.

Let's take a step back and look at what defines a ship:
To ship something means a person (us) wants two characters (ANY two) to get together and/or shows support for two characters *already* together.

However, most 'ships' are created. So, emphasis on the former.

I would like for this Elena W to come out and explain why there are no queer ships.

Don't read further if you get offended by people who make their point by using swear words and sarcasm.

    You asked for it-

    Very offensive comments:
Is the maker of this poll not watching the same show? Why are the more popular ships not on here? If these ships that you put in your poll are 'off the top of your head' then I would suggest you get on the internet more.

Where is Wincest, Destiel, Samifer and Sabriel? Do you know that even Mark Pellegrino ships himself and Sam? HAVE YOU BEE LIVING UNDER A ROCK?

And why the f__k is Castiel and Anna the only Angels listed in the poll?

I am not offended by my ship not being on here. I am offended by the very nature of this poll.

Does anyone NOT SEE the biasness of this poll?

    ReplyDelete
  186. There's saying that you think poll options are lacking (which people do on this site all the time), and then there's declaring the poll submitter is homophobic and excluded same-sex ships on purpose. The latter is incredibly presumptuous and, frankly, rather douchey.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Did you honestly just dodge every issue or question 'Guest' raised and then bring up the 'Destiel' issue, an issue Guest hadn't even alluded to (or at least not directly by name), in a blanket statement as a...what? A reprimand?
