The Hollywood Reporter turned to showrunner Scott M. Gimple to preview what's ahead in season four's midseason finale, "Too Far Gone." Here are five things to know about the episode.
1. There will be blood. In the comics, the battle for the prison claims Lori and baby Judith before a member of The Governor's camp -- named Lily, as potentially in Brian's new love interest -- turns her gun on the eye-patched baddie. "We've seen The Governor kill people to ensure the safety of his new family and we see him determined," Gimple says. "We see Rick is very much back as someone with a gun on his hip, ready to participate in the brutality of the world to keep his people safe. It's a very explosive situation and it's entirely possible that everybody doesn't make it back. That sort of thing would be something that would affect these characters even more deeply."
2. Things will get worse for the prison group. The Governor's likely attack comes (again) as the prison community is at one of its lowest moments of the season, with Glenn (Steven Yeun) still recovering from his near-death battle with the flu and having banished Carol (Melissa McBride) -- and with Daryl (Norman Reedus) still unaware of it. "It's a potentially explosive situation on top of an explosive situation; one from inside the prison [Daryl and Rick] and one from outside the prison [The Governor]," Gimple notes. "If both were to happen at the same time, that could be quite dangerous for the people inside the prison."

Daryl is still unaware of it? Glad they didn't fast forward over that part. Looking forward to seeing our prison group again and getting that action moving again. I can't see Lilly shooting people yet and hope she doesn't kill Judith, but this show always surprises me.
ReplyDeleteTomorrow night! Who-hoo!
I keep reading that it's over for Judith, but Gimple could surprise us. I really hope so.
ReplyDeleteIt seems a lot of details are different from the comics, so I'm not counting on anything until it happens. It would actually be a really bad idea for everything to play out the same because there would be no surprises or cliff-hangers.
ReplyDeleteLily has a gun, so might happen. Maybe someone else shoots Judith and Beth or Hershel, but Lily end up killing The Governor when she sees and figures out he killed innocent people. I think Hershel and Beth might die. Maybe Maggie, but i hope not.
ReplyDeleteI predict there will be many deaths on The Governor's side. Mitch will meet a gruesome fate. As for the prison group I think it's the end of the road for Hershel, Beth, and Judith. Hershel will be sacrificed when Rick chooses not to give up the prison. Beth and Judith will be killed fleeing.
ReplyDeleteSo glad that Rick didn't break the news to Daryl off camera.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for this, the midseason finales of TWD are always impressive. And I'm actually really curious about Judith's fate. Will they go there? If it happens,it'll be really hard to watch,no matter what we know from the comics.
I've always enjoyed the midseason finales more than the actual season finales. Season 2 we found out what happened to Sophia, season 3 Glenn and Maggie were rescued and Merle was reunited with his brother, and now season 4 we're going to see (hopefully) the final showdown between the prison and The Governor. The finales suck and leave us with a bittersweet taste in our mouths. Season 2 was their escape from the farm, 3 was them surviving The Governor's attack on the prison. It also seems like the episodes leading up to the finale are always good too. Season 2 we saw the deaths of Dale then Shane and 3 we saw the death of Merle. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's episode but I have to admit I'm nervous about who will die and whether or not The Governor will finally meet his maker.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone think The Governor will die in the Ep? I can't see his arc end Sunday night for some reason. I think it will be the first of many more attacks on the prison. Which is fine by me. I think he will finally go down in the finale at Ep 16 next spring. Here's to hoping the last 8 Eps of Season 4 is action packed and ends with a massive firefight between The Governor and Rick's group. What do you all think?
ReplyDeleteAcevedo is signed up for another show, so bye bye Mitch.
ReplyDeleteThey said after last year's finale that everyone was expecting the Governor to die, but they would never do such an important event in the last episode of a season.
ReplyDelete*spoilers* Well I've read the comics and he did die in this event in the comic but I really don't know what will happen.
ReplyDeleteYup so like I said.....he'll meet a gruesome fate :) lol
ReplyDeleteI don't know what's going to happen, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did die and if his role concluded with driving the group out of the prison. It seems like he's served his purpose - which was illustrating how dark a person can go if they fully embrace Shane's point of view. I also don't see where else his character arc could go from here. If he remained it would just be for more scuffles with the group, and that would get tiresome after a while.
ReplyDeleteIf they killed Maggie, that would really shock me.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. The Governor storyline's run its course. The prison storyline has also ran its course. We haven't seen a shocking death in a while either since last season's finale with Andrea dying.
ReplyDeleteI don't think he'll last that long. I've heard the group might be leaving the prison at some point in the second half of the season.
ReplyDeleteThe circumstances for Judith's death were really sad. Not just because she was a baby, either.
ReplyDeleteOn the Talking Dead David said he'll be on for the season, but I think he lies.
ReplyDeleteYeah I heard him say that too but maybe he was just saying that so he wouldn't give things away. He also said his character was a changed man but we now know that was a lie too.
ReplyDeleteI think I should have started my previous reply with the word "agree," because I do. Mitch will go, and so will Hershel. I think the Governor will stick around long enough for Lilly to get the picture, just as Andrea did. The only reason I think we'll lose sweet baby Judith is that Andrew Lincoln has said in this episode he does the most painful scene he's ever done, so I gather he'll have to put the baby down (and I don't mean for a nap).
ReplyDeleteOh I gathered from your comment that you agreed with me. I'm thinking that the prison group will win the war ending with The Governor's death caused by Lilly. The prison will be damaged beyond repair forcing them all to hit the road but before that Rick and the others will search the area for survivors finding Judith dead and turned. Reports I read earlier stated that there would be a zombie baby this season but I never thought it'd be Judith until now. That would be a crazy way to end the episode with Rick having to put a bullet through his daughter's head.
ReplyDeleteI hope Lilly kills him, but more than that, I hope it's Carol's doing, informing Lilly of the kind of man he is, and telling her she has to kill him. Just like she tried with Andrea, but that didn't work (because I think Andrea was a bit in love with him, whereas Lilly just met him).
