Live Bait starts off where last season’s finale left off, only this time we’re following the Governor. I can’t give away too many details – where would be the fun in that? – but let’s just say the Governor is a little different than what we’ve seen so far.
This is an episode that’s lighter on action and more on telling the story of a character’s emotional journey. But I will say this - the second to last line is “Holy shit.” And I can almost guarantee you won’t guess the circumstances around it.
We see a new town and meet a few new characters and learn how they coped after the world turned. They had a very different experience than our prison group and are in a different place emotionally. We also get a glimpse of what became of Woodbury.
Although the phrase is not said, the theme of “coming back” is once again explored from a different perspective.
I commented recently that I wasn’t ready to see the governor back because I was ready to put last season behind me. But I take that back now. The show has once again proved that it can put a fresh twist on the continuation of an old storyline and make it something very different.
Hope you enjoy it. I did.
Live Bait airs on Friday, Nov. 22, on FOX in the UK, and on Sunday, Nov. 17, on AMC in the US.

I'm glad we get to visit a new group of survivors. I'd like to know how others coped, what they've found out, and how they compare with our prison friends. I can't even guess about the "Holy shit" line, but I believe we're not even going to see the prison group, so it's not said by anyone there.
ReplyDeletefrom the sounds of the new group they wouldn't do that unless they had a role to play maybe they will be the ones who attack the prison and force everyone out to head to the safe zone
ReplyDeleteIf we dont see the main characters that will suck a little bit(not to saying a lot), I hate episodes even when SOME of the major characters doesn't appear, imagine all the characteres. From the review this will surely happen. I'm not enjoying much of this eason because of that. They're taking a lot of the focus on the ones we are used to watch.
ReplyDeleteI'm interested to see what happened with Woodbury. There was an episode earlier where they mentioned Woodbury and said it was uninhabitable but never clarified. I always wondered why the prison group didn't trade up moving from the dreariness of the prison to a small neighborhood. Like Chris I was dreading the continuation of The Governor storyline but I'm actually looking forward to it a bit. I want to see what he's been up to all winter. You say he's changed a little bit. I wonder which direction. Could he get eviler than he already was? I hope you're preview about the end of the episode's not as big a letdown as a preview I read last week (not by you). The writer claimed that at the end of the episode we'd be screaming and yelling at our TV but the end was just The Governor's appearance which honestly we all expected so it was a bit of a letdown. I was expecting a major death or something crazy and it wasn't delivered. Don't get me wrong it wasn't the show's fault it was the writer's fault for raising expectations higher than they should've been.
ReplyDeleteHi Timolio. I won't say more about the story than what's already in the review - but I'll say this - read into the comment what you want at your own risk. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised you feel like we haven't had much focus on the characters we've been following. I thought they've stayed pretty focused on the core group, despite bringing in some new faces. By the core group, I'm thinking specifically of Rick, Carl, Hershel, Carol, and Glenn and Maggie. We could use more Daryl though.
ReplyDeletewhat I'm saying is... episode 4.3 we're all expecting to see what happening with the people that are sick, they could have shown even if it was a little bit, but then there wasn't no news about; and two weeks later we got to see it, and that was an explosive episode. Now we're all expecting to see "Is it Glenn OK?", "The medicine is working for everyone?", "How Daryl is going to react when Rick tell him about Carol?", "And Tyrese?" and not less important, we also want to see Carol(I know we're going to expect a litle bit more for that). And now we get to see a whole episode about The Governor. All I want know about The Governor is "how is he going to interact with the people in the prison? Thats ALL!". He's there to be a villain, to be a bad guy and do bad things. As far as we seen of the governor, he is so lighter than the HQ, he's like a disney characters if we compare to the HQ. I don't like that. "Oh, The governor!" BIG DEAL! I don't fear when he appears at all.

"Oh, The governor IS BACK!" BIG DEAL! WE don't fear when he appears at all.AND HE WAS CREATED TO BE MORE DREADED THAN THE WALKERS.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds cool but for me the show is about Team Prison so while I'll watch and appreciate, it's not the same show without any of our Team Prison guys either and I'll be glad when the show wraps this up and gets back to our guys, the way it should be.
ReplyDeletePersonally the show is Team Prison for me. They have to wrap up this aspect with the Gov, so I'm glad they are, but I hope they wrap it up and get back to the main core group too b/c that's what the show is about. I have zero investment in these new characters and I'm ready for the Governor to die.
ReplyDeleteWas it the writer's fault though or did some build it up in their own minds more than it really was meant to be?
ReplyDeleteIf it's a flashback of sorts, my bet on the person at the end is Bob. He has a sketchy background, he was walking alone on a road when Daryl found him, he said he was the sole survivor of a couple different groups (perhaps or so he thought or something else)...wouldn't surprise me if that's the person
ReplyDeleteThe writer wrote specifically "you'll be on the edge of your seats the entire episode and then expect something major in the last five minutes that'll have you yelling and screaming at your television." I wasn't yelling and screaming at my TV. There were three of us watching the episode all expecting something at the end that would leave us with our mouths opened wide in astonishment but all it was was The Governor. We all expected that.
ReplyDeleteI love reading your previews. They give just enough info to make me look forward to the episode without giving too much away to ruin it.
ReplyDeleteHonestly he is more dangerous than the walkers. The walkers are slow and they can only hurt you with a bite or scratch. The walkers can't use weapons, drive vehicles, or even plan out things. They have one motive. The Governor can use weapons he can plan our vengeful acts. We saw an episode last season where a human caused the death of not one but two survivors due to his planning. Andrew sabotaged the prison causing the deaths of both Lori and T-Dog. Yes the deaths were caused by the walkers attacking BUT they wouldn't have been able to attack if not for Andrew's planning. The Governor is more dangerous than the walkers.
ReplyDeleteThey have to focus on others because nobody on this show is a "main character". We've seen characters killed left and right and they have to replaced by others. Bob may be there to replace Hershel when and if he dies. The only way the story can continue is to introduce new faces. We all have to face it. Glenn, Maggie, Beth, Hershel, Carol, Sasha, Tyreese and so on they're all always on the chopping block. Even Daryl, Rick, and Carl are always in danger of dying but less likely. New characters have to be created and introduced to keep the story going.
ReplyDeleteThat's actually a pretty good point. He and Lizzie have always been my top picks for baiting the walkers. He could be working for The Governor in the end. He didn't care enough for the group to grab any meds (only alcohol) and he did cause Zach's death. I feel that if he does have a conscience and he is working for The Governor he's wrestling with his decisions.
ReplyDeleteNo they don't, lol. It's Rick's story, his and Carl's. That group is and should be the focus and they're not killing off all the original characters. I think everyone can face it how they want though. They may say no one is safe, but personally, I don't buy it. There's some more safe than others.
ReplyDeleteRick IS a main character, Carl IS a main character, that group is the main group and while the other groups are interesting, I'm not as invested in them as I am the main group. They can keep the main story going with that main group and they don't have to continually kill them off either unless there's a point to it. NO way would I watch without some of that core main original group on it.
Right, but that's how you took it, yes? Others may have been on the edge of their seat, there's no way to tell what everyone expected, the only ones we can truly say that for are ourselves, yeah?
ReplyDeleteI was screaming and yelling at my TV when Hershel left the door open where the girl was dead to help Sasha. I wasn't screaming and yelling at the end.
ReplyDeleteIf Daryl or Rick died on tonight's episode I'd still watch next week's episode. I wouldn't like it no but I would still be a fan.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinkig Carol is going to be the one to find the new group, since she's all alone now it would make sense the line would be said by someone suprised to see her alive on her own.
ReplyDeleteDon't think it's Bob or Lizzie. Go back and watch that part (I think it's the cold open of Infected? Not sure) and you will see a hand. The hand is of a white male.
ReplyDeleteI just watched it and there was no hand at all. All you can see is a flashlight and the rat no hand. The suspects at the prison (the ones you matter) who are white and male wouldn't do it. Rick, Daryl, Hershel. I don't see any of them doing it. Other suspects could be Zach and Patrick both are dead. That'd be stupid to introduce a storyline only to kill off the suspects. The only other suspect is The Governor which would be dumb. Why would he break into the fence? So that only leaves Rick, Daryl, and Hershel. I don't see any of them baiting the walkers.
ReplyDeleteI honestly have to agree with you. There is too much going on now at the prison that they've DRAGGED out that I don't particularly care about a new group or survivors or about the The Governor. I don't even understand why they didn't just kill him off last season.
ReplyDeleteIt can't be Bob nor Lizzie: he went away with Tyreese the last two episodes and Lizzie has been in quarantine the last three and the walker are still pilling up: whoever is baiting them must be one of the healthy ones alongside Carl and Maggie
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's there. Holding the flashlight, first thing you see. There's not much contrast, so you'll have to have the lights off.
ReplyDeleteOr someone from the outside who knows how to get inside.
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't be hard to get inside. The hole in the fence is only held together by wire.
ReplyDeleteHey but there's so much to tell about them... they could even... tell us a little of their back stories. I don't know... I think this is lack of imagination, show two special episodes about just one character.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you... theres so much to tell.... but anyway... lets see another Governor episode.
ReplyDeleteyeah... LOL... I don't like to see him KILLED, but I think he has to be the same EVIL guy he is in the HQ.
ReplyDeletethey could show a lot of things about the governor if they want, but they don't need to focus only on him.
ReplyDeleteI would've liked to have seen more about the prison although I did like last night's episode. I actually began to sympathize with him. I mean he was given a dirty hand. His wife died right before the apocalypse and his daughter died and turned. He lost his entire family. We saw Rick nearly go nuts just losing Lori and their relationship was rocky. Michonne didn't have to kill Penny. She did it out of anger. Many would say she did it because it was wrong of him to hold his walker daughter captive in a closet but she kept two walkers on chains. She did it out of anger. The Governor had laid down his weapon he had surrendered. See I'm actually feeling sorry for the dude lol. I'm hoping these two episodes will lead to one major episode for the mid-season finale. Hopefully these two shows will tie everything together.
ReplyDeleteEveryone now is sympathizing with the governor LOL, but don't get used to it, because I'm pretty sure that's all just so we can stay at ease with him and then they'll shock us with a heinous act commited by him.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it won't be a heinous act. I mean I'm sure he'll die but who knows maybe he really has changed. He'll die but maybe he'll give his life for another like for Megan or Lily. He'll go out with some humanity after years of inhumanity. It'd be a great ending. Many characters that make us dislike them have gone out in sad ways. Andrea got on my nerves the way she treated Dale and always wanted guns and stuff but when she died it was sad same with Lori. She cheated, lied, and used both Shane and Rick turning them against each other but when she died it was a bit heartbreaking. Maybe that's how The Governor will go out who knows.
