You will not want to miss a minute of tonight’s episode of The Walking Dead, “Internment,” written by Channing Powell and directed by David Boyd. In fact, be prepared to spend the entire hour perched on the edge of your seat because it’s an hour of almost non-stop action.
Powell is new to the writers’ room this season and her only other writing credit is for White Collar, but she delivers an action packed episode and demonstrates that she really knows these characters and their voices. Boyd previously directed in season two. If you think the episode is particularly beautifully shot, that could be because Boyd is a seasoned director of photography, having filled that role on The Walking Dead and that other comic-based show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as well as Sons of Anarchy, Without a Trace, and Firefly to name a few.
I’m not sure how the actors do it week in and week out, but this is another powerful episode with strong performances by Andrew Lincoln (Rick), Chandler Riggs (Carl), and Steven Yeun (Glenn). This may be Lauren Cohen’s (Maggie) strongest performance yet. But the episode is a master acting class from Scott Wilson (Hershel).
I can’t possibly say enough about Wilson’s performance in this episode. Come back to read my review for a detailed explanation of every scene he knocks out of the park – and there are a lot of them! Clearly, the episode brings us back inside the prison and back inside the epidemic. The episode also revisits some of the themes we’ve already seen this season. What does it take in this world to maintain your humanity and what is its cost?
Rick does return to the prison, but I’m not going to speculate on what he says to anyone – or doesn’t say – about the events of last week’s episode – you’re going to have to tune in to find out! People will die from the disease – but again, you’ll have to tune it to find that answer! And finally, two final teases. Two things will happen in the final minutes of the episode that will have you shouting – or possibly screaming – at your television screen.

He's one of those character actors who's been around forever and we've all seen him, but don't recognize him because he disappears into his role. When I checked his picture on IMDB, from when he was younger, I thought, "Oh, THAT guy!"

ReplyDeleteI'm very excited about tonight because of the promos. Sick people are out of their cells because they are watching something. I want to know whose dead feet Hershel is looking down upon, because they appear to belong to a female. (Couldn't be Beth, he'd be upset. Maybe Mika or Lizzie? Or maybe I'm wrong and it's a not a girl.) I want to know what it is people are coming out of their cells to look at. I wonder how that fence is doing. I want to know who's been baiting the walkers with rats (but I think that's for next week). I'd like to know if Rick has been doing any more thinking about taking more of a leadership position, inasmuch as both Carl and Carol were encouraging him to do so. And last, I am looking forward to watching The Talking Dead with mythbuster Adam Savage. Should be awesome!
