This week’s episode shattered the closeness between the
Original siblings. Last week they were a united front, now they’re completely divided.
“Bloodletting” brought Tyler to New Orleans. Part of his revenge plan included
kidnapping Hayley, which eventually led to an explosive confrontation between
him and Klaus. Meanwhile Marcel manages to convince Rebekah to join his side.
As much as I want to see the Originals as a united front, considering all the
things Klaus has done to her over the years, I don’t blame her for wanting it
to end. Maybe in the end this will finally be a wake-up call for Klaus, and he’ll
realize that his family won’t keep forgiving him. Davina finds a friend in
Josh, who is now uncompelled and on Team Marcel. A kidnapped Hayley finds
herself in the bayou, where she not only finds out that her baby can sire hybrids,
but she also find a clue to her birthparents. Klaus came off somewhat jealous
of Elijah this week. As a result of once again being compared to ‘the noble
Elijah’ and being accused of wanting to use the baby to create an army, he
bites Elijah and leaves both him and Hayley in the bayou. Klaus’ reaction to
the accusation proved to me that he didn’t know about the baby’s power, and I
did feel bad for him but there were better ways to handle it.
Most badass moment:
Before Marcel managed to talk her down, Rebekah kicked his ass. I love badass
Rebekah. She’s been kind of underused lately when it comes to protecting Hayley,
so I hope we get to see her in action very soon.
Most annoying
character: What have the writers done to Tyler? First they barely showed
him since last season’s winter break. And now that he’s finally back, they’ve
turned him into a revenge obsessed, suicidal idiot. Here’s the thing, I get
that he’s mad at Hayley for getting the hybrids killed and at Klaus for
everything he’s done to him. However, I can’t believe that the same guy who
broke all the bones in his body a hundred times, the guy who came back to
Mystic Falls, knowing Klaus would kill him if he was spotted, just to give
Caroline the prom night she dreamed off, would just leave her like that. He
told her that he had to make Klaus pay, yet his plan seemed like a suicide
mission to me. He wouldn’t have been able to kill him without the white oak
stake (who knows where that thing is) and even if he did, he would die too
because it was Klaus’ blood that sired him. Last year he wanted nothing more
than a future with Caroline, even after his mother’s death As far as we know,
nothing changed during the summer, yet the character seems to have done a
complete one-eighty. I don’t blame Tyler, I blame the writers.
Best chemistry moment:
I know that Josh is gay, but I absolutely adored his scenes with Davina. They
may not have a lot in common, but I can see these becoming best friends in no
time. They’ve both been thrown into these crazy situations and are trying to
make the best of it. For a newbie vampire, Josh seems to be handling his new
reality pretty well.
Favorite character:
Every week I fall in more and more in love with Hayley. From the way she cursed
out Tyler, to her actually managing to escape. Her maternal instincts seem to
have really kicked in this week. I’d like to request a scene where she kicks
Tyler’s ass, please.
Most underrated
moment: Fight night! I wish we would get to see more of this side of New
Orleans. Loved the fight scene. This was probably also the last united Klaus
and Elijah moment we’ll be getting for a while. Marcel manages to handle
himself well in front of the Original brothers, but I would love to see him
actually take both of them on.
Favorite moment:
Elijah makes it to Hayley before Tyler does. It was a small scene but still my
favorite of the episode. The hug was really sweet. I have a feeling the sexual
tension that has been floating around in the air will be discussed soon,
especially when Elijah starts to hallucinate thanks to the werewolf bite.
Best ‘Oh Shit!’
moment: Tyler telling Marcel about the baby will definitely not be good.
Like Hayley didn’t have enough to worry about with the witches, now she’ll have
to deal with Marcel and his army. Like I said, not good!
Best quotes: Hayley: “You will not believe the crap day I’m
having.”
Josh: “Oh no, you’re the super witch.”
Hayley: “Let me go, you backstabbing, half-breed, piece of sh..”
Bad news guys, The Originals won’t be back until November 26th.
But let this cheer you up, it got a full season pick up. So check back in 2
weeks for an all new review. And share your opinions of “Bloodletting” in the comments.
I used to love Tyler. I wish they would get him out of blind revenge mode. He's a hybrid like Klaus, that gives him so much potential. They could have done a Tyler spinoff show that would have been amazing.
ReplyDeleteI liked this ep. I liked that they showed Haley has alot of family history. And I like her relationship with Elijah.
All around, this show rocks. The characters are all well fleshed out. And they still leave us wanting to know more.
Hayley was getting so much hate from TVD fans when she was playing there. I have to say that in TO she is great, great character. She is actually my 2nd favourite now, and already close to number 1 (Rebekah)
ReplyDeleteThanks to that episode Klaus is literally my lease favourite character on this show. Whiny, absolutely incapable of accepting that he has done mistakes in the past and downright mentally abusive towards Rebekah. Plus him mocking Tyler about killing his mother was low.
ReplyDeleteKlaus has nothing redeemable left to him
I didn't like Haley on TVD. They had her looking like a total slut. She slept with Tyler and Klaus. And it looked like she would have slept with any guy on the show. They've tamed her down alot for this show and her character is much better now.
ReplyDeletePretty sure she never slept with Tyler, they just let Klaus think that
ReplyDeleteNow my question, what's wrong with a female character getting action? Why does she "look like a total slut". She only slept with Klaus, "Would have" doesn't count. But you're calling her a slut? Hmmmm
ReplyDeleteI actually still like Klaus and want see more of him, but not as the perfect hero, I like him in all his damaged, frustrating glory. And being a Julie Plec show, you know he'll be redeemed. My biggest fear is the writers will give him a couple woobifying scenes via romance with [insert whichever blonde character you prefer] and that's the end of his anti-villainous role. I'm *hoping* for character development going the baby and becoming a father route...but that might be asking for too much.
ReplyDeleteI agree on Tyler, I didn't look forward to see him on TO and hoped Klaus would get rid of him immediatly. Maybe the writers can make me like him again, I hope so if he stays around. Haley I like a lot more here then on TVD, and with Elijah just chemistry on screen.
ReplyDeleteOne of my biggest problems with Tyler is most all of his character development happens off screen. He left in Season 2 with Jules for about half the season, he took off for half of Season 3 (which is apparently how he met Hayley) and was gone at the end of Season 4. Maybe if we had seen what happened to him after he left Mystic Falls his story-line would make more sense.
ReplyDeleteI don't think anything actually happened between her and Tyler. I think she was into him - but Tyler wasn't interested in being anything other than friends. That was what her and Klaus had in common - Klaus wanted/wants Caroline and Hayley wanted to be with Tyler.
ReplyDeleteRebekah has slept with Stefan, Damon, Matt and now Marcel. She's gotten around more than Hayley on the show.

ReplyDeleteI think he needs to change in some capacity. I don't think he needs to be a Stefan or anything. But I do think he will eventually change for the better. To the point where he isn't super impulsive at all times. I love him how he is though. Don't get me wrong. But there would only be so many times they could play that off before it gets old on a show about him. Know what I mean?
ReplyDeleteWhat was with Klaus compelling Tyler, nobody has mentioned it.Is it part of some plan?
ReplyDeleteYep! But we do need to remember it's a show being run by Julie Plec, she and her writers love to do fanservice and tailor their story lines around it.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Tyler is an idiot. Best chemistry Haylijah for me. Rebekah, always loved her, always will, (just wish she wasn't so daft when it came to men). And i'mI'm glad Davina has a friend in Josh. Very nice review.
ReplyDeleteDunno if comparing her to the woman who uses sex to get what she wants is the best way to go. I don't think Haley looked like a slut. I'm just saying.
ReplyDeleteIt shouldn't matter if she does or doesn't use sex to get what she wants, just as long as she's a fleshed out character and who's purpose on the show is to play up the sex. That's my whole point, did you read the first sentence?
