The Killing - Renewed for fourth and final season on Netflix

Nov 15, 2013

Just months after AMC cancelled Veena Sud’s mystery drama (for a second time!), Netflix has swooped in and ordered a fourth and final season, TVLine has learned.

The streaming giant and home to critical darlings House of Cards and Orange is the New Black has commissioned a six-episode wrap-up to the series.

“The rich, serialized storytelling in The Killing thrives on Netflix, and we believe that it is only fitting to give Sarah Linden and Stephen Holder a proper send off,” said Cindy Holland, vice president of original content for Netflix in a statement. “We are looking forward to offering fans — both existing and new — a series that we know is perfectly suited for on-demand viewing.”

Added David Madden, president of Fox Television Studios, which produces The Killing: “It’s a true testament to Veena Sud, and the stellar cast led so compellingly by Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman, that fans remained so passionate about the show. We’re gratified that our partners at Netflix recognized this, and are giving us the opportunity to complete the story in a way that will be satisfying to our loyal audience.”

  3. WHAT? This is AWESOME! I loved the third season of this show, so underrated. I had really written it off already sadly, this is AWESOME! The acting on this show is mind blowing, it's SO good! Super happy about this!

  4. Great News , one of the best shows i've seen.

  5. That's awesome for fans of The Killing.

Le sigh. Netflix, it would have been awesome had you picked up a comedy. Or two. *coughHappyEndingscough*

  6. I totally agree, but if they're digging this up from the grave months after it was cancelled, why not do the same with Happy Endings? Wishful thinking, I know, but I can dream!

  7. Oohhh this is great! After the finale there really needed to be a resolution.

  8. I always meant to give this show another go - I watched the first season and liked it and then kinda lost track during the second season. Here's hoping this is the first of many sadly cancelled shows brought back to life by Netflix? Although I do fear this is a one-off situation based on how popular the show already is on Netflix.

  9. Netflix Gonna save the world one day

  10. I wish too, but over half the cast is in new projects, or selling/developing projects and I think the head writer signed some deal or something. I wouldn't object to Apt 23, either, I've had a few people ask me if I've seen it, because they're just now watching it on Netflix. Even though I know for a fact I told everyone I met when it was airing to watch it.

  11. Good news! The last season ended on a cliffhanger, with Sarah Linden having murdered a suspect simply because he was her lover and was taunting her, not out of self-defense. Holden shouting, "No, no no!" was heartrending and I really want to know how it turns out.

  12. It's like the little series that could! I just wish this type of thing had happened to Rubicon too. I miss Rubicon.

  13. Great news! Now at least we get an ending. Can't wait to find out what happens with Linden and Holden!

  14. Another great series, gone before its time!

  15. Wow, this show was cancelled, then renewed, then canceled and now it's being both renewed and cancelled. Seemes like it couldn't pick a side.

  16. Yeeeeeeeees! Great news! I'm so glad we will get an ending finally!!! I can't wait!

  17. Well, this is good news but it ruins the ending of the series I had in my head where no one ever finds out about Linden executing that guy and she and Holder go out and get hammered after burying the body.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ahah. I am not sure if they will even address her executing him. I wonder how she will tell it.

  19. I think it's because of how perfect for marathon style of viewing the show is.

  20. Apartment 23 was so good, it's so sad that it died like that.

    ReplyDelete
  21. However they address it, if at all, they'd better be really quick about it. I certainly wouldn't want the final episodes to be all about Linden beating a murder rap.

  22. Excellent news I like The Killing a lot, season three was really great and the show deserves a final season.

  23. very good news! S3 was excellent

  24. Well Arrested Development had all its stars busy with other projects yet made it work somehow, I think Happy Endings can do the same if ever (wishful thinking)

  25. Awesome news! I'm very happy about this! I wasn't quite ready to say goodbye to Linden and Holder yet.

  26. Someone should get Netflix a cape.

  27. i'm very happy about this. however i am upset that the show was cancelled at all it was one of the best shows on tv and i feel it did deserve to have it's last season on a tv network not netflix, but at least we are getting more than many do when their shows are cancelled and i'm very happy.

  28. OMG. I dont watch the show but good news for the people who do. Just hope this would happen for The Secret Circle or The Lying Game

  29. The core group of devoted fans who pushed for this 4th season on twitter, facebook & elsewhere really deserve this.
    They earned it.
I haven't seen such a devoted & passionate fanbase try so hard to revive their show, besides Fringe, maybe ever.
With AMC out of the loop, hopefully it will get a proper ending.

  30. More of Linden and Holder - Great news! I really liked season 3 and I´ll be sure to watch season 4, but just 6 episodes? Arhh...I guess we can´t complain. And who knows, we might get a season 5 now. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  31. YESSSSS! The best news of the week!! Thanks Netflix! We love you more now :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yes, It's upsetting 4th season will last 6 episodes but better than nothing:)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yes, exactly. Hope a new murder case comes in. If the 4th season just focuses on Linden's covering up her murder or trials, it will be boring and against the show's nature. It would be perfect if there is a time jumping and a new murder

    ReplyDelete
  34. Okay, these responses make me feel like I should check it out, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The Secret Circle had a lot of problem on set with the actors so it'd be really hard to be revived even if it was possible.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I can't imagine how this merited a down vote.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Some of the actors were friends. The people who were causing problems could not join the revival even though they were main characters. I know it'd be hard cause most actors have found new jobs but if they really want it to work they can though it would be hard

I was just complaining and moaning about Netflix and their lousy streaming and constant interruptions. I am no longer mad at them!!! Yay for Netflix!!! and yay for us devoted fans of this series.
