Scene Of The Week - November 17, 2013 - POLL

Nov 17, 2013

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great scenes that we've seen recently.

AGENTS OF SHIELD, "The Hub", November 12, 2013, Actor: Iain De Caestecker
The Scene: Fitz vs the door
Jamie Coudeville:
It's been a while since I last laughed that hard. I read that it was improvised which makes it even more amazing.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN, "The Axeman Cometh", November 13, 2013, Actors: Danny Huston, Emma Roberts and more
The Scenes: The Axeman meets his match & Madison comes back from the dead
DarkUFO:
The Axeman meets his match as the witches trick him and all stab him.
Jamie Coudeville: I had been waiting for this ever since they killed her off. Loved the "I need a cigarette line". Please let it be permanent. Also I can't wait to see Fiona's face.

ARROW, "Keep Your Enemies Closer", November 13, 2013, Actors: Stephen Amell, David Ramsey, Emily Bett Rickards, Michael Rowe
The Scenes: Oliver and Felicity talk in the end & Diggle and Deadshot meet again in the freezer
Jamie Coudeville:
Oliver tells Felicity that because of his life, he can't be with someone he really cares about. - My Olicity heart. I loved this scene so much. The acting was great. I never thought the writers would go in that direction.
A Dahne: Diggle and Deadshot locked up in the freezer together - This was a powerful scene for me because here was the man that Diggle had been searching for for so long and yet he was physically unable to do anything about it.

ATLANTIS, "The Furies", November 16, 2013, Actors: Robert Emms, Juliet Stevenson
The Scene: Pythagoras goes to see the Oracle
Sandi wich:
I'd like to pick most of Pythagoras' scenes as Robert Emms' performance this week really blew me away, but I'm going to go for the one with the Oracle. Juliet Stevenson ups anyone's game on screen in my opinion and this one was no exception, the emotion and hints at dark secrets were spot on.

ELEMENTARY, "Blood Is Thicker", November 14, 2013, Actors: Jonny Lee Miller, Lucy Liu
The Scene: Sherlock and Watson discuss their living arrangements
Justyna Kubica:
I always enjoy seeing these little moments between the two. When Sherlock seems more emotional and vulnerable. In this particular scene, Holmes not only explains the problem he has with his father to Watson, but also admits just how important she and the rest of his friends in New York are to him. And how much their support means to him. As always, Jonny Lee Miller is exceptionally good when he has to show more of Sherlock's emotional side, without it being too much. He also works so well with Lucy Liu. Someone did an amazing job casting these two together. Also, I'm glad we got to hear the reasons why Holmes didn't want to return to London. Not yet anyway. And they were very good ones. It's pretty important to me, cause since the beginning of the show the one thing that I always thought that was missing was the apartment 221B on Baker Street, London. It feels like a home for these characters. But for now, I'm happy with how things are. And this beautiful scene shows me exactly why.

GLEE, "The End of Twerk", November 14, 2013, Actor: Matthew Morrison
The Scene: Will throws stuff around
CJ Allan:
Will has a Sue-sized tantrum and throws stuff around. Had to watch that scene 15 times and still funny.

GREY'S ANATOMY, "Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word", November 14, 2013, Actors: Sara Ramirez, Jessica Capshaw
The Scenes: Arizona tells Callie she's pregnant & Arizona cheers up Callie with their daughter's drawing
Klutzy Girl:
Arizona tells Callie she's pregnant. That was a cute scene and I loved Callie kissing her stomach. I'm still surprised this storyline even happened at all, though, and it makes me wonder what else we missed off-screen.
Diana Mack: I liked the entire episode dedicated to Callie (she's one of my favorite characters of the show). If I need to pick a scene, I'll choose the one with Callie in the bathroom, struggling with her tights, and then Arizona appears and shows her a drawing made by their daughter to make her happy. Arizona smiles. That was a sweet scene!

HOMELAND, "Gerontion", November 10, 2013, Actors: Mandy Patinkin, Tracy Letts
The Scene: Saul locks Senator Lockhart in the conference room (picked by Sharon Seymour)

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, "Platonish", November 11, 2013, Actors: Neil Patrick Harris, Cristin Milioti, Josh Radnor and more
The Scene: Barney finishes the story & Barney meets The Mother & The Mother encourages Barney to be honest with himself
Justyna Kubica:
I'll start with saying that I never really was a fan of Ted & Robin. Since we've learned back in episode 1 of the show that she is not the Mother, I always thought that their story is just standing in a way of Ted finding his one true love. So when I read that this episode is gonna be about them (again), I didn't expect to like it, at all. But then the Mother showed up, things got quite interesting and by the end of the half-hour, I realized it was really beautifully made. And I loved the moment when Barney finished telling the story and completed his task of winning Robin's heart. Such a lovely scene for the two. But what made this part powerful and emotional for me was the look at Ted's face, right there, at the very end. When matched with the words of a wonderful song (which I can't stop listening since Tuesday): "why would I stop loving you, a hundred years from now?", the moment made me feel so bad for Ted. Poor guy, he just can't let go of the girl, unfortunately there's no off switch for him. And it hurts. I just can't wait for him to meet the Mother.
He's really a good guy, a romantic, who deserves to find someone incredible. And knowing she's so close, yet still so far is heartbreaking at the moment. But all of these scenes make me think that once the two meet, it is gonna be, like Barney would say, legendary. Without having to wait for it, not anymore. Brilliant work by the cast, especially Josh Radnor!
Klutzy Girl: Barney and The Mother have a conversation during which she encourages him to be honest with himself. I love that this was the catalyst for proposing to Robin.
Babar Suhail: Barney meets The Mother.

MISFITS, "Episode Four", November 13, 2013, Actor: Joseph Gilgun
The Scene: Rudy One and old Rudy Two reminisce about the truck lost at a beach
Sandi wich:
The scene between Rudy One and old Rudy Two where they reminisce about the truck lost in the sand at a beach when he was younger was very sweet. Love that Joe Gilgun got to show another side to his character.

ONCE UPON A TIME IN WONDERLAND, "Heart of Stone", November 14, 2013, Actors: Michael Socha, Emma Rigby, The Scene: Red Queen de-stones Will
A Dahne:
Red Queen de-stones Will and slips away before he realizes it was she who helped him - Red Queen is by far the most intriguing character on the show and I love how she is obviously torn by Will's reappearance in her life in this scene. The backstory is really working for me.

PERSON OF INTEREST, "Endgame", November 12, 2013, Actors: Jim Caviezel, Taraji P. Henson, Kevin Chapman and more
The Scenes: Carter's showdown with HR at the end & Reese realises Carter used his rocket launcher & Carter talks to Fusco outside the precinct
Sharon Seymour:
Carter's showdown with HR at the corrupt judge's house.
Virginia Fontana: Carter gets help from Reese when she's confronted by the H.R. baddies. She showed her independence in many ways throughout her H.R. takedown plan, but I'm glad she finally turned to her friends when she needed them most.
DarkUFO: Reese and Finch realise it was Carter who took down the drug truck.
Bradley Adams: Carter talks to Fusco outside the precinct.

SCANDAL, "Everything's Coming Up Mellie", November 14, 2013, Actors: Bellamy Young, Tony Goldwyn and more
The Scenes: Mellie walks into her and Fitz' bedroom after being raped & Fitz's father attacks Mellie & Abby hugs Olivia & Mellie announces she's pregnant
Klutzy Girl:
Mellie walks into her and Fitz' bedroom after being raped by her father-in-law. It was horrific, but Bellamy was amazing during this scene. The horror on her face and the trauma in the aftermath of what happened definitely showed. Bellamy deserves to win all the awards, and I look forward to hearing more about Mellie in the future.
Jimmy Ryan: I cannot go past Scandal this week. This episode changed the series yet again. The best scene for me was Mellie being raped by Fitz's father, not because I condone it, but because it's remarkably rare to hear rape mentioned on television these days, let alone see it played by actors. This scene will definitely be one that Scandal fans will never forget, regardless of their opinion of the
character or storyline.
Virginia Fontana: Abby hugs Olivia. What a cute and funny expression of friendship between these two who are often outwardly cold and standoffish.
Diana Mack: In the flashback episode, after being raped by Fitz's father, Mellie announced she's pregnant. What a twist! I like Mellie's character, but I think this moment will change the show and the storyline forever. I agree with Jimmy Ryan on this.

SLEEPY HOLLOW, "The Midnight Ride", November 11, 2013, Actors: Tom Mison, Daniel J. Roberts
The Scene: Ichabod disputes the tour guide's Paul Revere facts
A Dahne:
Originally I was going to pick when Captain Irving first sees Headless, but the history teacher in me had to go with correcting bad information. It was hilarious as well.

SUPERNATURAL, "Heaven Can't Wait", November 12, 2013, Actor: Misha Collins
The Scene: Cas sings a lullaby to baby Tanya
Virginia Fontana:
Cas sings a lullaby to baby Tanya: the theme song from Greatest American Hero! This was adorable and heartwarming.

THE BLACKLIST, "General Ludd (No. 109)", November 11, 2013, Actors: James Spader, Megan Boone and more
The Scenes: Reddington and Sam talk about Liz & Red and Elizabeth see the plastic surgeon
Diana Mack:
Reddington is at Sam's bedside because he's sick and he's going to die. Reddington tells him that Liz has become an incredible woman thanks to his adoptive father (which is Sam). We learn that Reddington is Liz's real father. Plot twist but for me, but I had my suspicions since the series started! Bradley Adams: Red and Elizabeth see the plastic surgeon. What a fantastic scene.

THE MENTALIST, "Fire and Brimstone", November 10, 2013, Actors: Simon Baker, Michael Gaston, Xander Berkeley and more
The Scene: Jane confronts the Five Suspects
Justyna Kubica:
I have to admit, I almost forgot about this scene, not because it wasn't memorable (it definitely was!), but simply cause I was planning to pick it a week ago, when I actually watched the episode. Obviously to avoid spoiling everything to US viewers, I thought we could do this later. And what an incredible scene (and the episode) it was! So much tension and breathtaking interactions between the characters. And the mystery. We're so close! Only three more suspects left. Including the one I was betting on, back at the end of last season. Although, considering some of the recent spoilers, I'm very conflicted about who I think Red John is, right now. No matter how things are going to end, it's been quite an intense journey. Or in other words, great television! This scene, where Patrick threatens everyone at the house with a gun and discovers that not one, but three of them have the same tattoo, the one Red John has, was so well done! I was at the edge of my seat the entire time. And that explosion! Did anyone else felt like their heart skipped a beat? I have to say, Season 6 of the Mentalist for me is definitely must-see TV right now. And if you're not watching, you're missing out!

THE TOMORROW PEOPLE, "Sorry for Your Loss", November 13, 2013
The Scene: The end scene
Bradley Adams:
And thus, the love triangle begins. It was a good scene though.

THE WALKING DEAD, "Internment", November 10, 2013, Actors: Andrew Lincoln, Chandler Riggs
The Scene: Rick and Carl machine gun the Zombie breach (picked by Sharon Seymour and DarkUFO)

  2. Honorable Mentions -

    SHIELD -

    1. Fitz versus the door. - How someone as smart as Fitz can't figure out a door is beyond me but it was hilarious.
    2. Fitz stands his ground and refuses to leave Ward to face non-extraction alone. - They made a great team and I liked how they found a reasonable way to get Fitz in on the action. I hope we get more scenes between them.

    Elementary -

    1. Mycroft tells Sherlock that his father may cut him off if he doesn't come back to London.
    2. Sherlock and Watson talk about moving to London. - Like how they seem really like partners now, with each getting a say in major decisions.
    3. Mycroft's ending scene. - I'm not sure who wants Sherlock back in London so badly or how far they will go to get him there but to have Mycroft in on it raises the stakes tremendously.

    Sleepy Hollow -

    1. Irving finally sees Headless. - Great action scene coupled with Orlando Jones' selling the disbelief.
    2. Ichabod and Abby fins the skull jack-o-lanterns. - Super creepy scene done in a fabulous way. Headless would totally win the Halloween Decorating Contest. People would be too scared not to vote for him.
    3. Ichabod can't figure out the internet.

Goldbergs - Beverly teaches her neighbor how to yell for her rights.

    White Collar -

    1. Neal and the daughter bond over snooping. - Love how Neal hides the girl to keep her from getting into trouble.
    2. Peter has to go home with the flu. - Sick Peter was adorable, none more so than when Neal was teaching El how to pickpocket.
    3. Mozzie raises bees. - Oh Moz, all your schemes make me laugh.

    Grimm -

    1. Monroe silent talks Nick into getting him out of unpacking. - Love that Rosalee knew exactly what was going on and actively pushes Monroe to the trailer for research.

    Arrow -

    1. Roy gets arrested while helping out Arrow and Quentin lets him go.
    2. Diggle tells Oliver and Felicity that Lila is his ex-wife. - This was the biggest shock of the week for me.
    3. Moira tells Thea she cannot break up with Roy.

That Elementary scene was exquisite. The fact that this is a bubble show kills me. It's fantastic.

  4. I just started watching Elementary this year and I was surprised how much I liked it given I usually find Sherlock Holmes obnoxious. I am glad I gave it a chance because it contains some of the sweetest non-shipping moments on TV as well as interesting cases and intriguing characters.

I ship it, but I know what you mean, lol. I love JLM's Holmes. Such depth and pathos. I didn't expect to love the show, but I do. Sometimes I'm unsure if it can survive on network. It's a bit unique. But man, I'm pretty addicted.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Fitz refusing to leave Ward was such a great moment for his character. Easily one of my favorites.

Mycroft's ending scene - I'm very interested to see who was he talking to (Moriarty?) and why it's so important to bring Sherlock back to London. My second choice from the show.

Sleepy Hollow - I love all those moments when Ichabod learns how to deal with the modern times. And the internet scene was no exception :)

White Collar - Peter's flu was a great material for the comedy. And lots of great moments between him and the others.

Arrow - I really liked Moira finally meeting Roy and telling Thea she cannot break up with the guy because of her. Also Quentin letting him go was another proof of just how much he has changed. And how he almost joined Team Arrow at this point. Love his character's development.

  7. All the HIMYM moments those scenes for me were the highlights of this episode. Barney meeting the mother!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Damn sure The Mentalist!

  9. I am notoriously anti-shipping, so for me it is a relief to find a show where they do not push shipping on everything either in the show or in the fandom. I like that you are allowed to be either and that not all online conversation about the show ends up being about 'ships. You can talk just about the canon story too.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I loved the scene in Sleepy Hollow when Ichabod is trying to use the computer and pulls up the naughty website, I was giggling like an idiot.

I also loved Madison coming back from the dead in AHS. "I need a cigarette"

    ReplyDelete
  11. Elementary - I originally thought Moriarty as well but she's in an American jail so that doesn't make sense to me. I feel like they are slowly setting up a new Big Bad this season. The only problem I have right now is that I really like Mycroft and believed that he had indeed forgiven Sherlock. I hope that is still the case and that he has a very good reason for trying to manipulate his brother.

Arrow - So true. At this point all they need is for him to realize Oliver is Arrow and he can pick up his membership badge. Quite frankly, I'm not sure why he wouldn't. He made the connection between Sara and Black Canary pretty quickly. He now knows that Diggle, Felicity, and Roy work with Arrow, narrowing down the connection between them to very few people.

My favorite part of Moira un-breaking Thea and Roy up is that now it can't be a useless, melodramatic plot point taking up time when there are far more pressing matters to attend to. Plus Susannah always knocks her scenes out of the park. I do like that she gave Roy some credit for stabilizing Thea because for the most part Thea gets credit for rehabilitating Roy.

  12. - Person of Interest's entire episode counts as one very, very long scene for me, so there goes one vote.
    - The Mentalist, powerful scene with all the suspects, and I did NOT see that ending coming!
    - And Sleepy Hollow, I love the fact that after 7 episodes, watching Ichabod adjust to a new century does not get old, the actor delivers his lines perfectly. Loved the ones with the laptop.

    Others:

    - Homeland, Quinn confessing for a crime he didn't commit, I felt bad for him, but like he said "wrong crime, right guy"
    - Arrow - Diggle and Deadshot meet again in the freezer, poor Diggle, had to work with the man that killed his brother, kept his honor, but at least he found out something important.

  13. I have to start watching Elementary then :P

    ReplyDelete
  14. Honorable mention:

Scandal: Mellie's rape scene, the horror on her face after she tells Fitz about her pregnancy. Bellamy knocked it out of the park.

SPN: Cas sings to the baby.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I definitely recommend it. It is a nice surprise when you have a show with male and female partners and do NOT get hit over the head with shipping every week. The show is subtle enough to let you see what you see and believe what you believe without feeling like it is fan pandering to specific ships, which is extremely rare these days. All in all, I am very much enjoying Elementary because it is a rarity.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Devon Maxwell-PierceNovember 17, 2013 at 4:01 PM

Yeah, I love the Elementary fandom. It's so zen. Shippers and noromos frolic together and it's cool to see. It's not been my experience in other fandoms.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oh yes! I can't believe Quentin hasn't figure out who Oliver is yet. He guessed almost immediately that Sara is Black Canary! Besides, we know, he's actually a very good Detective, so I can't wait for them to let him join the team officially.

Also about the scene with Moira, whenever Susanna Thompson shows up on the screen I expect this moment to be a good one and fact that she rarely does appear this season is just such a shame.

    ReplyDelete
  18. That's one of the things I really enjoy about Elementary. No romantic connection between two main characters. And I'm glad the creators actually confirmed they're not planning one. Just great friendship and partnership.

It's not that I'm against couple or sth, because there are many that I really like, but I hate it whenever shipping overshadows everything else on the show or the triangles ruin the characters I like.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I saw the pilot when it started, and it was ok, but for some reason I didn't follow it, but I keep reading good things about it, and I like what you're saying, so I think I'll give it another try (another Sherlock to my list :D)

    ReplyDelete
  20. The POI scene was the hardest to pick for me. The entire episode was incredible, making it almost impossible to pick the best scene.

    ReplyDelete
  21. My thoughts exactly.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Agree with you on Scandal, Bellamy is a great actress.

    ReplyDelete
  23. While I liked the father-son Rambo scene in The Walking Dead, the scene that most got to me was Hershel in the doctor's cell, preparing to read the Bible over the killed, zombified doctor's body, and breaking down. Hershel was hero par excellence throughout the episode, using, and teaching, his positive thinking about getting through the illness. However the scene that was most memorable, though I try to forget it, was Hershel intubating Glenn with that disgusting thing. Eww, eww, eww.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Grimm. Yes. Monroe and Rosalee are so good for each other.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Scandal: All the scenes mentioned here, plus the scene where they reveal who 'Omar Dresden' is! WHOA! Kind of expected her to still be alive, but when they showed it..so good. Also, Bellamy Young was brilliant in this episode.

Greys: The first episode this season that I actually really loved. All because of how lovely Sara Ramirez is. Her scene with the patient, when she apologizes was great.

HIMYM: The whole conversation with Barney and The Mother. Im loving The Mother so far!

TVD: The opening scene, with Silas and the couple at the bus stop, so funny! I am gonna miss this character!

Elementary: Brilliant scene with them discussing their living situations. Both Johnny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu are extremely great in their roles. Gotta wonder what Mycroft was upto.

White Collar: "Neal Caffrey, at your service." <3 All the scenes with him in the butler outfit!

The Blacklist: Red killing Liz's adoptive father! What a heartbreaking scene this one was. Red and Tom's meeting was interesting too.

SHIELD: The scenes with Fitz and Ward together. Fitz really proved himself this week. Also, 'the talk' Coulson has with Agent May as she is exercising! Ha!

New Girl: The final scene, when all of them are at the beach. Reminded me of s1 New Girl.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Chicago Fire; Severide saving the boy and Casey with the boy at the wall of medals

    ReplyDelete
  27. That's a great one too! I was actually considering it, but it ended up in my honorable mentions.
I especially liked the ending, at the hospital and at the wall of medals.

    ReplyDelete
  28. what about the sunset scene from THE MENTALIST?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yeah that was awesome. So much emotion packed in that came right threw the screen :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Arrow: The Olicity talk in the end. I think besides the obvious reason for me liking it (I'm a hardcore shippers after all), it was just so sad that Oliver is picking the worst because he isn't in a place to be with the best - and I don't even mean Felicity. A person doesn't need to be with someone to be happy, but the way Oliver is going at it hurts my heart.

Haven (why didn't anyone mention this???): The incredibly adorable Nathan/Audrey scene in the beginning and Audrey being shot when William did :O

Elementary: The scene with Joan and Sherlock talking about their living arrangement. That was such a great scene, especially how Joan was so supportive and telling him to just screw your father we'll figure it out without him <3

The Blacklist: DEFINITELY the scene with Red and Sam, though Red and Tom was very intense.

    ReplyDelete
  31. TWD-Rick and Carl shooting the zombies and Glee-Will throwing a Sue Sylvestre style hissy fit were two of the best moments of TV this week for me

The worst moment was Cas singing to the baby talk about fan pandering and really are they trying to make Cas into Dean 2.0? Human Cas has so far been a bore fest.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Scandal isn't overall my fave show but this week's ep was very captive. The character of Mellie has always irked me so it was weird suddenly making a 180 but what she went through sorta explains her a whole lot and in ways forgives her acts (at least in my eyes). Fitz is truly - and for a president - very blind in many ways.

    Supernatural scene was cute :)
I did Arrow deashot, powerful scene. I was alittle spooked about Felicity having feelings, because I didn't think that would be so. I rather her be a friend, but I can't whinge to much I'll just adapt to that situation. I did vote for it because there was insight and this will be interesting to see what Oliver does next.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I love the way the show handles the Watson and Holmes relationship - she respects him but isn't enthralled by him, and she's invaluable to him without being some type of lackey. The only real complaint I have was her sleeping with Mycroft, which just felt forced.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Lots of wonderful scenes. I loved that Hershel scene, and I truly loved the scene where Maggie had to shoot the walker to save her father. If that had been on the list I would have voted for it.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Beyond singing to a baby I don't see a similarity between the characters. One of the points of the episode was Dean realizing Cas wasn't him.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I voted for Cas singing to the baby, although there were a lot of scenes in the episode I enjoyed too, like his reunion with Dean, or the opening scene with the man who nearly killed himself only to be killed by Ephraim.

    ReplyDelete
  38. The whole flashback on Scandal, now I want to Mellie end up with Fitz, because she actually deserves that after all she has been through. And the most sad part was when she returned to her bedroom and wasn't even able to take a shower, because of Fitz, and she wasn't able to do anything, not even to cry.

Yes I agree. Too bad there was just one for SPN but we take what we get right? :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. @Diana Mack Actually, I think we didn't have confirmation of anything. We didn't get any answers at the end (That's TheBlacklist lol! You begin watching with 10 or so questions/mysteries and end the ep with 10 more AND no answer.) We already knew Liz was adopted (pilot), what we didn't know was that Red and her adoptive father were friends, but seeing how much Red knows about Liz's life, no surprise there, I mean it's understandable.
