-Ratings Breakdown:
It was an easy Wednesday household overnight victory for ABC courtesy of the “47th Annual CMA Awards,” which finished first in each of the six half-hours with an average 9.7 rating/16 share from 8-11 p.m. Comparably, this was 11 percent above the year-ago telecast (8.7/14 on Thursday 11/01/12), which translated into 13.68 million viewers and a 3.8/10 among adults 18-49 (based on the live plus same day data).

Second-place CBS was on par from one week earlier despite the increased competition from ABC with its line-up of “Survivor: Blood vs. Water” (#2: 5.9/10), “Criminal Minds” (#2: 6.6/11) and “CSI” (#2: 6.3/11). And this proves, of course, that regularly programming can still perform adequately opposite an event like “The CMA Awards.” As for the always-addictive “Survivor,” please visit our TVMI Facebook page and tell us what you thought of last night’s episode at http://tinyurl.com/ckermnd.

In the distant third place spot last night was NBC care of relocated “Revolution” (#3t: 3.5/ 6), veteran “Law & Order: SVU” (#3: 4.4/ 7) and a midweek edition of “Dateline” (#3: 3.4/ 6), which was 31 percent below the year-ago airing of former time period occupant “Chicago Fire” (4.9/ 9 on 11/07/12). While a 3.5 in the overnights is certainly nothing to crow about, “Revolution” is still an improvement over the sitcom strategy in the hour last season.

“The X Factor” on Fox equally “Revolution” in the household overnights, with a 3.5/ 6 from 8-10 p.m.. And it will, of course, hold a notable advantage in all the key young adult demos over the sophomore older-skewing drama. But overnight erosion of 29 percent from the 4.9/ 7 on the year-ago evening (and facing “The Voice” on NBC tonight) is all the more reason to label this tired singing competition a “loser.” At this point, Fox really needs to think of life without “The X Factor” next fall.

“Arrow” on The CW equaled its week-ago performance, with a 2.1/ 3 at 8 p.m. But episode five of lead-out drama “The Tomorrow People” slipped to a 1.2/ 2 at 9 p.m., which was a loss of one-tenth of a rating point (or eight percent) from one week earlier. Of the three new CW dramas, “The Originals” on Tuesday is the standout.
