Positive Return for “Mike & Molly” on CBS
Household
Rating/Share
ABC 8.7/14
NBC 7.3/11
CBS 4.8/ 7
Fox 4.6/ 7
CW 0.8/ 1
———-
-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Monday 11/05/12:
Fox: +35, CW: +14, NBC: +12, CBS: – 6, ABC: – 2
———-
-Winners:
“Dancing With the Stars” (ABC), “The Voice” (NBC), “Mike & Molly” (CBS), “Castle” (ABC), “The Blacklist” (NBC)
-Honorable Mention:
“How I Met Your Mother” (CBS), “2 Broke Girls” (CBS), “Sleepy Hollow” (Fox)
-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Hart of Dixie” (CW), “Beauty and the Beast” (CW), “Hostages” (CBS)
———-
-Ratings Breakdown:
ABC dominated the Monday overnights, beating second-place NBC by an average of 19 percent. But the home of “The Voice,” of course, remains the network to beat in adults 18-49 and the other key young adult demos.
Guest star Cher lifted ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” to a dominant 9.7 rating/15 share from 8-10 p.m., which was five percent above the 9.2/14 one week earlier. And “Dancing With the Stars” bested competing “The Voice” on NBC (#2: 7.6/11 from 8-10 p.m.), which is a lock in the young demos, by 28 percent.
Lead-out “Castle” on ABC won the 10 p.m. hour in the overnights with a 6.9/12, which was one-tenth of a rating point (or one percent) above “The Blacklist” on NBC (6.8/12). But “The Blacklist,” which held 92 percent of the 9:30 p.m. portion of “The Voice” (7.4/11), is the show to beat demographically.
Ranking a distant third at 10 p.m. remains “Hostages” on CBS with a mere 3.3/ 6, which was 35 percent below the year-ago airing of former time period occupant “Hawaii Five-O” (5.1/ 9 on 11/05/12).
In season-premiere news, sitcom “Mike & Molly” on CBS did not disappoint with a third-place 6.1/ 9 in the overnights at 9 p.m. Comparably, that beat year-ago occupant “2 Broke Girls” (5.9/ 9 on 11/05/12) by three percent. And it built from its lead-in, also “2 Broke Girls” (#3: 5.4/ 8 at 8:30 p.m.), by 13 percent.
Next on CBS was recent entry “Mom” at a third-place 5.0/ 8 at 9:30 p.m., which increased from one week earlier (4.7/ 7 on Oct. 28) by six percent. Note to the writers on “Mom”: make sure Allison Janney remains on the forefront.
Earlier in the evening on the Eye net was demo friendly “How I Met Your Mother” at a typical third-place 5.6/ 8 in the overnights at 8 p.m. The bottom line: If “Mike & Molly” holds up, and there is every reason to believe it will, the CBS Monday comedy block is an improved competitive option. But “Hostages” at 10 p.m. remains the weak link.
Elsewhere, “Bones” on Fox, which shifts to Fridays at 8 p.m. effective on Nov. 15 (in place of new drama “Almost Human”) was respectable at a fourth-place 4.7/ 7 at 8 p.m. And that led into a perfectly compatible 4.5/ 7 (but series low) for already renewed “Sleepy Hollow” at 9 p.m., which returned after a two week absence of original episodes. The CW, meanwhile, could not compete with its combination of “Hart of Dixie” (#5: 1.0/ 1) and sophomore “Beauty and the Beast” (#5: 0.7/ 1).

week after week, same ratings for HoD and BaTB!! at this point,no one can save Batb!!
ReplyDeleteAs much as I hope Bones didn't drop at all, I'm more hoping that it stayed at at least a 2.0.
ReplyDeleteWhy has Bones been banished to Fridays? I didn't think it was performing that badly?
ReplyDelete“Note to the writers on “Mom”: make sure Allison Janney remains on the forefront.” Agreed. The show truly is getting better each week and it's all thanks to her. There's no show without her!
ReplyDeleteAlmost Human will take its time slot. I'm not sure though if there's another reason.
ReplyDeleteIt is not about performing badly, I think FOX has faith in it that it will perform well on Fridays, since it has survived every other night of the week, save Saturdays.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the show is getting better, I haven't seen this week's episode, but last week's was probably the best so far.
ReplyDeleteSeries low for Sleepy Hollow, and that too in the sweeps?
ReplyDeleteEven though I preferred the one before (episode five), last week's was better than the first ones, that's for sure. Now let's hope the show continues to improve!
ReplyDeleteThat was a good one too.
ReplyDeleteI am very impressed if Mike and Molly really outperforms 2 Broke Girls and How I Met Your Mother like it appears here. Then again, I think it has always been older skewing than the other two, so the households could be less reliable here for comparison purposes. I guess we have to wait and see.
ReplyDeletei absolutely love the mom show its freaking hilarious they need more higher ratings
ReplyDeleteyesterday was absolutely hilarious!!!
ReplyDeleteFrom those numbers, I would expect about a 1.9 for Castle...but I read that yesterday´s episode was preempted in a lot of places due to a special coverage news, so I have no idea how this will turn out:(
ReplyDeleteYeah, just watched it. It was a good one.
ReplyDeleteseries low? grrrr!
ReplyDeletemove it to tuesdays! i love this show. its been renewed through 2015 already. and i think the 3 week hiatus killed us. let it have its own night where its not up against the voice or blacklist! comedies can be saved for wednesday. hell, or wednesdays.
Beef up their Fridays.
ReplyDeleteGoodbye Beauty and the Beast! It was nice knowing you! :D
ReplyDeleteOuch Sleepy Hollow.
ReplyDeleteA series low in the households, who knows how that will translate demographically.
ReplyDeleteI also wasn't expecting it to come back this strong. Let's see how that translates demographically
ReplyDeleteThe show is hilarious, but it is not for everyone.
ReplyDeleteNo, Sleepy Hollow u_u I don't want it to become the new 'New Girl' who dropped a lot in the end of the first season.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Dancing With The Stars, The Blacklist and Mom, but as always we have to wait the 18-49 rating.
Anyway, I think Hart of Dixie could have another season or at least a miniseason like Nikita.
Unfortunately nothing can save Beauty and The Beast. Thanks a lot, 'loyal' american fans. Imagine the sadness of the ones like me who live outside the US and can't do almost nothing to support it.
To be fare, only the people with a neilsen box determine the ratings, so not all Americans are to blame.
ReplyDeleteI know about Nielsen box thing, so I mean the american Beauty and The Beast fans who have the box, but watch something else live.
ReplyDeletewe don't have the rating yet but one reason sleepy hollow could be down is that there wasn't much adversing that it was back this week. I thought it came back next week,
ReplyDeletebit unfair to blame american viewers for not watching a show you like dont you think? Beauty had a decent sampling but couldnt keep hold of the viewers thats the fault of the show itself not the american tv viewers.
ReplyDeleteyou mean the ones that DVR?
ReplyDeleteHere are the 1/2 hr breakdowns for those interested

or overall it is a bad show and that is why Nielsen viewers are not watching.
ReplyDeleteHorrifying ratings for BATB.
ReplyDeleteOMG Beauty and the Beast is sooo dead, at least HOD is stable but could be doing better :(
ReplyDeleteRead my reply to Babar. I meant and mean the american fans who have nielsen boxed and watch something else live. Live results are the ones that count more.
ReplyDeletePeople have to support their favorite shows. I love The Voice, too, but I know I can watch it later, 'cause it's a safe show, while Beauty and The Beast is in trouble
WOW! 11.91 for Castle! Nice!
ReplyDeleteWoao Hostages goes down week after week i dont think the show is that bad D: ... HIMYM is doing great eventho i dont watch the show is really great how it`s holding, 2BG and Mike and Molly did great it was a good move the switching places thing, MOM Ouch it fell a lot but it still is doing good! BatB is goner is doing the same as 90210 and 90210 was on it`s 5 season
ReplyDeleteI can not understand? Hasting of BATB is always down?:(
ReplyDeleteHow I Met Your Mother is the only thing that grew in the first sweeps Monday for CBS. 2 Broke Girls, Mom and Hostages are all down a tenth.
ReplyDeleteGreat for Castle with a three-tenths rise.
IMO, FOX didn't promote their Monday shows a lot this week but they're still better than tuesdays, wednesdays and thursdays.. I didn't love last night's Bones that much but still good for them! Also I hope SH won't drop more.. They should just stay n 2.5. last nights episode was so good! Great for Castle too! It's their 6th season and they got 2.4! & I really really hope The Blacklist adjusted up! Love that show they deserve above 2.9!
ReplyDeleteCastle, I´m sure, will adjust way down! I read it was preempted all over the place:(
ReplyDeleteThen why shows like Jersey Shore had lasted so long and had good results? it wasn't a masterpiece.
ReplyDeleteI don't completely get the question but if you ask why the ratings keep falling there might be a few reasons to that.
ReplyDelete1.) it's on mondays against Sleepy Hollow and Mike&Molly, at least Sleepy Hollow seems to share the demographic with BatB. At least that's what a very angry BatB fan told me.
2.) it's paired up with Hart of Dixie, both shows don't really complement each other meaning the fans of the one possibly won't catch the other show.
3.) Quality ? Not going to get further into it but some viewers might've had different expectations in a show that was ment to be a reboot of the classic Perlman/Hamilton series.
It's a reality show and it's on cable.
ReplyDeleteAlso people seem to love reality shows and drama.
ReplyDeleteI knew that, It was just an example, another is Two and a Half Men, which is still on air, but it's considered overrated by many people.
ReplyDeleteKinda sad as a BATB fan but the show is not the same as season one. I think the CW will have a lot of new shows next season.
ReplyDeleteWhy are you comparing BATB to random shows?
ReplyDeleteDo you have to be like this, always? like you're the tv teacher, it's annoying. I knew about Nielsen boxes and Jersey Shore being a cable show.
ReplyDeleteRonald said he thinks it's cause overall Beauty and The Beast is a bad show.
So I wanted to say that there are shows that lasted so long, despite the quality not being that great. So, to me, high ratings don't always mean high quality.
Yes, I will be like this when the things you are saying don't make sense.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to cry into my corner... #BatB improved so much in this second Season and nobody seems to give it even a chance...As a german it totally sucks to see it and knowing you can't change it.
ReplyDeleteIf it stays above a 2.0, I'll still be happy.
ReplyDeleteUgh, what's with SH declining each episode?
ReplyDeletei think people had gave BATB a lot of changes already.
ReplyDeleteI was also surprised Blacklist got 2.9, maybe it'll adjust up.
ReplyDeleteRevolution also hit below 3.0 in the first November week last year. I hope it won't go down the same route ratings-wise.
NOTE: Last night’s Monday Night Football
ReplyDeletegame (Chicago at Green Bay) was simulcast on the ABC affiliate in Green
Bay. As a result, ABC numbers may be inflated and subject to more
than typical adjustments in the finals.
Yeah, I am hoping it won't end up like Revolution.
ReplyDeleteOh really? Did you watch the second Season? #BatB
ReplyDeleteOmg this is bad news..
ReplyDeleteThis is not twitter.
ReplyDeleteIt's natural for new shows to decline, we can just hope that they decline at a low rate. Besides, hiatus usually lead to higher than usual declines and the show didn't even fell that much. I would ignore 0.1-0.2 fluctuations.
ReplyDeleteIt is unlikely that the cw has more than 3 fall new shows. I don't remember the last time that happened. Besides, they are actually doing good this season so they need less replacements, which means there is a less of an incentive to do that.
ReplyDeleteThe Blacklist will probably be adjusted down but it would still be doing very well. Remember that the voice lead-in fell considerably too. In addition, remember you cannot compare year to year numbers. A 3.0 from last year is probably equivalent to a 2.70 or something.
ReplyDeleteI agree with most, but would add up that the show is not really down; it's been stable since the started the season. Besides, it's not even down that much from last year when it was pulling 0.5s out of TVD, those 0.2 are probably people that only watched it because of TVD.
ReplyDeleteAlso, in regards to 1), SH wasn't on during the last weeks and it didn't affect Beauty and the Beast at all.
I know, but I am worried that it may take the Revolution Route.
ReplyDeleteYou reply to me just to criticize almost all my comments, you're so annoying. I explained why I named Jersey Shore and Two and a Half Men, but you don't understand, so it's my problem? no. Who are you to say the things I say don't make sense? Congrats, I'm usually a peaceful person, but you've been able to annoy me for real.
ReplyDeleteI agree with some of your comments, but I don't believe you when you say you have nothing against Beauty and The Beast, 'cause some of your comments about its ratings sounded and sound harsh, like you wanted to provoke.
Other people told me why they don't agree with me, but they didn't do that with your arrogance.
You get surprised when Beauty and The Beast fans attack you, but you should try to understand why, instead of blaming them and trying to be the martyr.
That's sort of a misconception because even though factually correct, the Nielsen sample should be representative, so what most people are doing is reflected in what Nielsen users do.
ReplyDeleteHe only pointed out ratings facts, what is the problem? The issue is that some Beauty and the Beast fans insist on ignoring most facts about the way ratings and renewal and cancellations work, even when we keep trying to teach them.
ReplyDeleteIt did fine, no worries.
ReplyDeleteObviously we were wrong, of course it didn't beat How I Met Your Mother. Still, an okayish performance all things considered. I expected a 2.4-2.6, so it was upper end of my range.
ReplyDeleteI was also expecting it to be in the mid 2s.
ReplyDeleteFree world (at least where I live). I can do what I want. ^^
ReplyDeleteRevolution was actually a very healthy show pre-hiatus. Nothing on its trend was worrying or negative until its return. Apart from the huge post premiere drop (which I attribute both to the normal post premiere drop of new shows and to the return of competition which made the premiere number inflated to begin with), the show settled nicely in the 2.6-3.4 range and it was not even following all episodes, it had some going up. Its problem was that it bled too much after the hiatus, it should have remained north of 2.2 at least for the in-season episodes. My point? It's not a problem for the blacklist if it mirrors what revolution did a year ago, because what revolution did a year ago was not negative. Its spring trajectory is another story.
ReplyDeleteI never criticized BATB in any of the reply to your comments. I simply stated that it's irrelevant to compare it to TAAHM and Jersey Shore, as they are different genres and on different networks.
ReplyDeleteTAAHM has been on air for eleven years so of course it has built a loyal fan base. Although it is down in ratings this season, the loyal fans have stuck to it.
Well in that case we can completely eliminate my first point, I just brought that one up because I had a wild discussion with some BatB fans a few weeks ago that blamed BatBs poor ratings on airing opposite to SH
ReplyDeleteyes, i do have watch it up to recent episode (mostly because i watch all theCW series) and its hard for me to get through till now because i not really like Kristin Kreuk (as she doesn't have any expression on her face and eyes when acting) and the story/writting is not really that great. it deserved the ratings it got up til now.
ReplyDeleteI am really worried what NBC plans on doing for The Blacklist's hiatus. Hopefully they have learned something and at least air a couple of episodes during The Voice's break to see how it does.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is he thinks he's the teacher and he needs to give lessons.
ReplyDeleteLike i said, I knew about Nielsen boxes and Jersey Shore being a cable show.
You think he casually replied to me just to say something about Beauty and The Beast and not to say something about my congrats to The Blackist for example or Sleepy Hollow going down? I don't think so.
I already know nothing can save Beauty and The Beast(I love the show, but I try to be objective). I blamed its american fans who stopped watching(last season ended with a rating of 0.6), not all the americans who live in the USA.
I know how renewal and cancellations work. You will not see me saying 'The fanbase in the world is big and it's popular on internet, so CW will be renew it'.
So will I, I´m a huge fan! I´ll stay happy even with a 2.0:)
ReplyDeleteThen why you wrote 'To be fair, only the people with a nielsen box determine the ratings, so not all Americans are to blame.' when my comment contained this part: 'Thanks a lot, 'loyal' american fans'. See? american fans, not 'americans'. Last season ended with a rating of 0.6, the second season started with a rating of 0.3, so who should I blame? not the fans?
ReplyDeleteI know the networks of Jersey Shore and Two and A Half Men are different, I meant just the quality of those shows. I will do a CW example. There are fans who say Supernatural is not worth watching since season 5 finale, but Supernatural's results are still great, despite the words of those fans.
So, there are people who think Beauty and The Beast suck, while others think the show is amazing. To each their own.
Even that comment was not against BATB.
ReplyDeleteEven that comment was not against BATB
ReplyDeleteSleepy Hollow is doing well but I'm still hoping for an uptick in the finals. Love this show.
ReplyDeleteI dislike that idea. The 10pm hour on Mondays is not friendly to a show with poor lead-ins. Besides, CBS will premiere Intelligence by then which will presumably have a full world of promotion to back that up. I would much rather have them air 5 more episodes of the blacklist in the fall until mid december (12 in total) and then air the remaining 10 starting in the first week of March and ending first week of May with no breaks (or second week of May with one May in there if needed). IMO, this is very different than what they did with Revolution. Revolution went out of the air at the end of November, not even December, and returned practically in April. That's 4 months out of the air, as opposed to the 2 halfish I am proposing for the blacklist.
ReplyDeleteIf they still plan on airing it with The Voice, then the voice doesn't return until the last week of March.
ReplyDeleteFor now, yes, but it really needs to stop falling.
ReplyDeleteNot that bad.
ReplyDeleteI'm not trying to be mean, but, is there a reason BatB fans keep using a hashtag? Those are for Twitter and Facebook, not Disqus. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteso Beauty goes to Friday for burn off come mid season?
ReplyDeleteI can always count on you to calm me down. :)
ReplyDeleteI've got so much to learn when it comes to analyzing ratings. XD
So proud of Castle. Viewers know a good show when they see one! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI really like her but of course, everybody has is own opinion so it is okay. For me, I really love the second season so far. It is a different path, then the first season (but yeah, I liked this too)
ReplyDeleteBecause I can do what I want, and yes it is most of the time just an reflex. We still live in a free world (well at least in most parts of the world)
ReplyDeleteDunno, but that's when it premiered last year.
ReplyDeleteDifferent situation. I think that had to do with Shakira's pregnancy so it was more for logistic reasons. Besides, once they decided they would go with the biggest looser/ deception, they would have to let the pair run for 12 weeks or they couldn't have the pair at all most likely. This year, they have the sing-off in december-january and then the olympics in february. I will be surprised if the voice doesn't come back early march this year.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the HIMYM rating increase is due to the "Return of the Mother" advertising!
ReplyDeleteWow. How I Met Your Mother actually won its half hour in the demo against the Voice!
ReplyDeleteIt's been suggested that The CW should swap BatB & TCD's slots. I think that could help them a bit. BatB clearly isn't benefiting from that slot anyway, and TCD is very similar in tone to HoD so having it as a lead-in might work better.
ReplyDeleteDid I say you were not allowed to do it or something? No, I asked a simple question. No need to get so huffy and defensive.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they can slash the episode order if it continues in this vein, or have their hands tied once they've ordered the full 22.
ReplyDeleteI assume they'll air the whole season due to a lack of backup options, but send it to Friday so they can air Star-Crossed after HoD. (If you ask me HoD should move to 9 with the new show getting the affiliates' lead-in at 8. But that's a whole other matter.)
And I just answered your question. not my problem, when you don't like it. There is nothing huffy or defensive
ReplyDeleteActually, I'd say that was extremely huffy and defensive. All you needed to say was ''Yes, most of the time it's just a reflex''.
ReplyDeleteAnd then BatB fans complain about how others think they're just a bunch of immature, lovesick teenage girls. Whatever. I know I shouldn't generalize, but the online fandom, at least, doesn't come off as very mature.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought about falling in hasting was because of the change of day (before it was Thursday) and now on Monday at the same times from as SH. I know that at the beginning of last season the hasting started well down, but then she was up and hitting the numbers were improving. I hope the same happens with BATB, the numbers do not quite understand, but I realized that this time was much lower than last week. The series this listed as immediate cancellation. It makes me sad and worried. Thanks for the information, his and everyone else commented.
ReplyDeleteIs that actually confirmed? What are they planning to air in March?
ReplyDelete
