Early Ratings Analysis

The analysis below is based on the early household numbers and are NOT the same as the numbers that will be posted in the above table later. (See the About section below)

-Ratings Breakdown:
It was another overnight Monday victory for ABC care of “Dancing With the Stars” and “Castle.” But the home of “The Voice,” NBC, will rule among adults 18-49 (and the other key demos), of course.

“Dancing With the Stars,” which concludes its current fall edition tonight, topped the evening in the overnights with a 9.7 rating/15 share from 8-10 p.m. And that led into a dominant 7.4/13 for “Castle” at 10 p.m. Both were on par with their week-ago overnight averages. “The Voice” on NBC scored a second-place 7.0/10 from 8-10 p.m., which was nine percent above the 6.4/10 on the year-ago evening (from 8-10 p.m.). And it led into a 6.6/11 (#2) for “The Blacklist” at 10 p.m., which was 27 percent above year-ago occupant “Revolution” (5.2/ 9 on 11/26/12). If NBC could boast ratings of this magnitude on all seven nights of the week, life would really be good at Peacock land.

CBS was slightly below average from 8-9 p.m. with “How I Met Your Mother” (#3: 5.1/ 8) and relocated “2 Broke Girls” (#3: 4.9/ 7) down by nine and eight percent, respectively, from one week earlier. “Mike & Molly” (featuring guest star Susan Sarandon) perked up to a 5.4/ 8 at 9 p.m., but lead-in “2 Broke Girls” is expected to have a notable advantage in the young demos. And worthy “Mom” at 9:30 p.m., which has found its funny bone by featuring more of Allison Janney, followed with a 4.6/ 7 at 9:30 p.m. (#3), which held 85 percent of the “Mike & Molly” lead-in.

Falling to make the grade once again was freshman Eye net drama “Hostages” at a distant third-place 3.2/ 6 at 10 p.m. Upcoming CBS midseason drama “Intelligence,” which will be airing Mondays at 10 p.m. in place of “Hostages,” will premiere in its regularly scheduled time period on January 13. A special preview will air on Tuesday, January 7 out of “NCIS” at 9 p.m. ET.

Over at Fox, week two of “Almost Human” as the 8 p.m. anchor dipped by eight percent with a fourth-place 4.4/ 7 at 8 p.m. (versus a 4.8/ 7 on Nov. 18). Comparably, that was also down by eight percent from year-ago occupant “Bones.” Next was demo friendly “Sleepy Hollow” at a fourth-place 4.2/ 6 at 9 p.m., which slipped by nine percent from the 4.6/ 7 one week earlier.

The CW, meanwhile, could not compete with relocated pairing of “Hart of Dixie” (#5: 1.0/ 2) and “Beauty and the Beast” (#5: 0.7/ 1).

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.
