-Ratings Breakdown:
NBC rose to new heights on Sunday this season with the Kansas City Chiefs at the Denver Broncos on “Sunday Night Football” at an above average 17.1 rating/27 share from 8:30-11 p.m., which was up by an estimated 31 percent from the week-ago match-up between the Dallas Cowboys at the New Orleans Saints. And that translated into 21.09 million viewers and 7.8 rating/20 share among adults 18-49, based on the live plus same day data.
Earlier in the evening on NBC was Pre-Game “Football Night in America” at a 2.2/ 4 at 7 p.m. (#4), a 4.2/ 7 at 7:30 p.m. (#3) and a dominant 10.1/16 at 8 p.m. As a reminder, results for any live sporting event are always approximate.
In series premiere/preview news, “Almost Human” on Fox was sampled at a second-place 6.3/ 9 in the overnights at 8 p.m., which was boosted by the 12.7/21 for post-NFL game “The OT” at 7:30 p.m. Comparably, “Human Target,” which debuts in its regularly scheduled Monday 8 p.m. time period tonight, bested week-ago time period occupants “The Simpsons” (2.8/ 4 on Nov. 10) and “Bob’s Burgers” (2.1/ 3) by a hefty 147 percent.
Immediately following “Almost Human” were 9-10 p.m. editions of “The Simpsons” (#4: 3.0/ 4) and “Family Guy” (#4: 2.9/ 4), which cannot, of course, be judge by the overnights. In the 7 p.m. half-hour on Fox was the Football overrun at a 16.0/27 in the overnights, which beat the competition combined.
Third-place CBS opened the evening with granddaddy “60 Minutes” at a second-place 8.9/14 at 7 p.m., followed by “The Amazing Race” (#3: 6.1/ 9), water-cooler worthy “The Good Wife” (#2: 7.1/11) and “The Mentalist” (#2; 6.7/11) from 8-11 p.m.
Over at ABC, the sharp 41 percent decline was a result of “The 40th American Music Awards” airing on the year-ago evening. But the alphabet net’s combination of “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (#3: 3.8/ 6), “Once Upon a Time” (#4: 4.2/ 6), “Revenge” (#3: 3.9/ 6) and “Betrayal” (#3: 2.5/ 4) continues to lag, with “Betrayal” a goner and “Revenge” only in contention at this point for a fourth season to accumulate enough episodes for off-network.

That still looks damn awful for OUAT and Revenge but I wasn't honestly expecting improvement in such a busy night everywhere else. I hate ABC. Elsewhere, this tells me nothing about Almost Human. It would have to skew insanely old not to score at least a 3.0 but we shall see.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing Almost Human got at least a 3.5 if not better.
ReplyDeleteHave to wait for the demo for Almost Human to find pout how it did.
ReplyDeleteYAY ALMOST HUMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteComparably, “Human Target'',.... He means 'Almost Human' right? LOL speaking of which, glad it did well by the look of things. The real test is tonight.
ReplyDeleteAsl always I will wait for the 18-49 demo for 'Once Upon A Time'
Yes, he messed up both Humans ahah. Ironically, FOX did the same strategy with Human Target back then, also premiering it on Sunday before moving it to its midweek slot.
ReplyDelete“Once Upon a Time” – 4.2/ 6 - Last Sunday
ReplyDelete''Once Upon A Time'' - 4.2/6 - This Sunday
So should be steady.
Not necessarily. Elementary was up this week in the overnights and dropped two-tenths in the demo, It could very well be steady or even up, but I'd hate for you to feel the same dismay I did, haha.
ReplyDeleteConsidering that revenge is in the loser section is a bad sign
ReplyDeleteYes I know. It's the same as Revenge, it had a minor change in overnights only. But in this case steady is not good considering last week's numbers were terribly. That's why I said awful.
ReplyDeleteI think Revenge will have poor numbers but that is completely arbitrary, I don't really trust his split.
ReplyDeleteCrossing my fingers for Almost Human. At least so far its sounds like it did alright.
ReplyDeleteYeah that's always the correct attitude.
ReplyDeleteCrossing my fingers for at least a 1.4
ReplyDeleteI find it so depressing that we're left to root for CW-esque ratings for Revenge....
ReplyDeletei think with the big football leadin and all the promotion a 3.1 has to be slightly disappointing
ReplyDeleteI think a 3.1 is slightly disappointing for AH. It's by no means DOA but I think it could have been expected to do better than what The Following did last year. Let's see how it settles into the new slot tonight.
ReplyDelete3.1 for Almost Human? Damn. 'cause of the football lead in i was expecting at least 3.4.. I mean it's not bad but wasn't expecting that..
ReplyDeleteAgreed but the real question is what it does tonight in its regular timeslot with Sleepy Hollow.
ReplyDeleteFLOP Human will be DOA on Mondays.
ReplyDeleteIt'll start at 3.1 and end at 1.3
BRING BACK BONES
Yeah I agree. I've always believed that the ratings it would get from Sunday would only mean something if it was exceptionally good or exceptionally bad. Neither was the case, so I think everything is up the air. Also, note that the show doesn't have to compete with the voice tonight (courtesy of NBC) so even tonight's numbers could be a bit inflated.
ReplyDeleteAlmost human half hour : 3.4 / 2.8
ReplyDeleteOUAT :S I don't even want to see Revenge... I hate ABC. How Paul Lee was not fired yet is one of the biggest TV mysteries from the season!!
ReplyDeleteRevenge, not too bad!
ReplyDeleteCould be worse, yes, especially considering that OUAT was at a new series low. But it could easily adjust down. I find it so depressing that the best we can hope for now are CW levels...
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if tonight's numbers would be inflated because I imagine there are enough people out there that would think it premieres on Monday only next week. Even with all the promos, two episodes airing in two days is unusual, and there are enough people that just skip the promos and commercials all together.
ReplyDeleteI really really hope Once is adjusted up. :(
ReplyDeleteouat 1.9? :O the show need to move it
ReplyDeleteHow are Revenge's ratings ABC's fault? Everyone screaming last year when OUAT/Rev were spread out over winter/spring with gaps/against GG/Football, etc.. This season - split into two halves and not going up against any of the "big events." Not sure what else ABC can do. DH and TWD proved that right programming will counter football, etc. Oh, and I used to watch Rev faithfully, but the end of last season just didn't do it for me and S3.E1 bored me to death. I hope it turns it around, but it's not ABC's fault.
ReplyDeleteI honestly thought it would do better and while I think it will go down tonight because of CBS (and maybe DWTS), I agree that the real test will be next Monday when The Voice is live again at 8.
ReplyDeleteABC ALREADY killed them by airing them against big events and huge breaks. Yes they are trying to improve it by airing them in blocks, but the damage has already been done. It is ABC's fault.
ReplyDeleteI think it's 90% ABC's fault. I wrote about it a couple of weeks ago extensively. http://www.spoilertv.com/2013/11/ratings-analysis-abc-sundays.html These are serialized shows which don't recover like that and the evidence clearly shows that the problem was the scheduling shows had, not the creative direction or whatever it was. Once the damage was done, it was always going to be very difficult to get the audience back. These shows were never DH type of mega hits, it was ABC's own arrogance that killed them by having them act as if they were.
ReplyDeleteI think there is a very very very tiny chance that Revenge is moved but I cannot imagine ABC moving OUAT. They absolutely should move both in the Spring, 100%, but I don't think they will ever move OUAT, realistically speaking.
ReplyDeleteHere are the 1/2 hr breakdowns.

too bad about ouat. great episode
ReplyDeleteMaybe. I am not sure how strong that effect is. In any case it's all up in the air. If my numbers are correct (and I am not sure they are), the last show FOX did this with, Human Target, actually went up when moved midweek, from a 2.9 to 3.4 although it was moved to after AI, which was a powerhouse back then so I am not sure how relevant the example is.
ReplyDeleteI was expecting at least a 3.5 for Almost Human.
ReplyDeleteHope your wrong for Revenge. I hope ABC will move it.
ReplyDeleteI hope I am wrong too.
ReplyDeleteConsidering that revenge is in the loser section is a bad sign
ReplyDeleteI agree with all 3 comments.
ReplyDeleteOUAT will rebound in 2 weeks
ReplyDeleteIt went up against Almost Human, Also for a HUGE part of the
Midwest; there was No OUAT b/c of storm coverage so keep this in mind people.
Markets like Chicago had no OUAT
thank god Revenge went Up from last week, AH premiere did affect OUAT e.e
ReplyDeletePoor OUaT, isn't that a series low?
ReplyDeleteIt's a sad state of affairs when a 1.5 for Revenge is an improvement... but hey, I'll take what I can get. Don't you dare adjust down, Show!
TV shows ALWAYS air against some type of big event. It's the nature of television. Poor scheduling can certainly affect ratings, but these shows have stayed in the same timeslot for 2 years now - people know where to find them if they want to. In todays day & age a monkey could catch up with TV online. If people were interested, they'd be there. Bad storytelling hurt the shows last year.
ReplyDeleteyup but there was no OUAT in majority of midwest because of local storm coverage
ReplyDeletePromising ratings for Almost Human. Hoping it does just as good on Monday. So afraid of it dropping.
ReplyDeleteABC's decision to air the shows in large blocks instead of having endless breaks, and to save them from having to compete with award shows, was a very good one. However, Revenge at least has a terrible timeslot. It can't possibly handle football AND The Walking Dead (which I believe is the single highest-rated show on TV right now, no?). With the continuous decline of Revenge's numbers, it's unclear why ABC doesn't do SOMETHING. They could move it to Thursday or back to its original Wednesday timeslot, getting away from the deadly competition alone should boost it.
ReplyDeleteFolks need to remember that about half of last night's OUaT airing was preempted by tornado and severe weather coverage, not to mention power and cable outages that were rampant throughout the midwest. I don't think low viewership was the problem last night.
ReplyDeleteYup, I'm in Chicago and we got about half the episode
ReplyDeleteThe thing is, this guy analyzes ratings based on total viewers which makes no sense. Advertises - and therefore networks - care almost exclusively about the 18-49 demo (and sometimes about groups within it, like women aged 18-34). As such, as long as Revenge rose in the demo, I couldn't care less how it did in terms of overall viewers and neither should anyone else. You could count Revenge as a "loser" in that 1.5 is much lower than what ABC expects from it (and it could adjust down like it did last week), but if you're comparing it to last week, it's a rise.
ReplyDeleteIf things continue on this path, it won't be long before The CW stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the other 4 networks, a prospect I would've laughed at a few months ago. Even CBS has shows that aren't *way* above CW numbers. Who would've thought?
ReplyDeletei turned the channel of after 10 mins b/c i thought there was no OUAT; o ddn't even know it came back on
ReplyDeleteI chose last night to stop watching OUAT. Based on last night's reactions, I believe I have good timing!
ReplyDeleteI did watch Walking Dead though, which is meh. Have they released the numbers on that yet?
Agreed about Almost Human.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping for 3.5/ 10.5, but tonight's numbers will be more telling.
If I recall correctly Terr Nova had something like 3.0/ 9.5 when it started and it went down hill fast. Of course AM has a far lower production cost and less production hassle than TN so AH should have a better chance of renewal with similar numbers.
Regardless, if the pattern set by the half-hour breakdowns (3.4/ 2.8) continues it could be a huge uphill battle to renewal.
Oh damn, I didn't even realize Almost Human premiered last night! I have to watch that later- I've heard positive things so far.
ReplyDeleteTWD airs on cable so its numbers only come out later today (if AMC decides to issue a press release) or tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteRevenge halves are actually stable which is a first in a long time I think so maybe it holds in finals. And yes, OUAT is a new series low, it had never gone below a 2.0 before I believe.
ReplyDeleteYes, The Walking Dead is the highest rated non sports shows on TV right now.
ReplyDeleteThat is a big misconception. Please read my article on that subject (http://www.spoilertv.com/2013/11/ratings-analysis-abc-sundays.html). The evidence clearly show that it was the scheduling that killed them. The fact that they both have the exact same down points and that there was no downwards trend before those dates clearly shows that.
ReplyDeleteI think you should ignore the halves for the most part here. Shows airing out of huge rated lead-ins always drop big at the half hours. I don't think it means anything to be honest, just the nature of things. Also, comparing it with Terra Nova isn't really fair because the shows are airing on different seasons. Even excluding the costs differential, Terra Nova's ratings were worse because they aired in a year in which the average 18-49s ratings for TV were higher than they are today (20% or so I think). So the 3.1s are not comparable. Other than that, yes, I think your point stands that it all depends on the trend that it follows from here. It could hold, inch upwards or inch downards. The intensity and the direction of these movements will seal its fate.
ReplyDeleteJesus getting killed by Almost Human.Just terrable.
ReplyDeleteI think it would take them a lot more seasons, but maybe they can at least get to the same playfield, although I cannot imagine the CW ever managing to score big mega players like The Voice, TBBT, Modern Family or American Idol. Also, you have to remember that this year the numbers look very good because there were terrible slots (tuesday) to correct. Next year maybe they can replicate that on Mondays but from then onwards it will be hard to have this kind of growth because, like with any other network, the CW shows also age.
ReplyDeleteHere's the averages at the moment:
- CBS: 2.20
- ABC: 2.10
- FOX: 2.00
- NBC: 1.80
- CW: 0.80
Even if you have two years of 15% declines for the big 4 (unlikely) while the CW grows 10% each year (which I think it's impossible even this year), it would go to:
- CBS: 1.60
- ABC: 1.50
- FOX: 1.45
- NBC: 1.30
- CW: 1.00
So there would still be a gap, albeit a much smaller one. But as I've said, this is very much a best case situation which I don't see ever happening. Maybe in 5 years if the current trend continues, but a lot of things have to go right for the CW for that to happen.
I still say that changes of 0.1/0.2 should be disregarded. They fall within margin of error and within rounding error. If a show does 1.3, 1.5, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.3 the show is virtually stable, the changes are likely to be minimal. I wouldn't call that a rise or a decline. Of course, physiologically, I still celebrate those upward changes for my shows, but in reality they don't matter (especially because you have no way of knowing how this small changes translate in C3 numbers which are the ones that actually matter).
ReplyDeletei hope ouat adjusted up
ReplyDeleteThanks for these!
ReplyDeleteSad to see Almost Human lost 0.6 points in the demo between half hours. :(
i read that some states didnt have ouat is true?
ReplyDelete
