About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.

  1. it unfortunately scored just a 1.2 and Raising Hope got a 0.7!

  2. I am seeing the table from 2 weeks ago, there is something off there. Anyway, Bones did terribly, I am shocked and sad for it. It appears that FOX has screwed up. But I honestly have no suggestions for what they should do. Does anyone want to weight in? Elsewhere, surprisingly bad night for ABC, even with Shark Tank going down, but CBS had a very good night and H50 continues to have excellent numbers for a Friday. Grimm up is also good, it's well deserved since the episode was awesome.

  3. It's terrible, I am very surprised at how badly it went.

  8. Seriously, you are surprised that Fox screwed up once again?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Raising Hope down a full ratings point from last season premiere, but that was on a a Tuesday.
Grimm up two-tenths which is really good.
I am sure a 1.2 was not what FOX was expecting for Bones.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Ouch Bones ! i expect more ! i'm surprised

    ReplyDelete
  11. I don't think the move was that bad. I am surprised Bones loyal audience didn't follow it. The worst I expected was a 1.4, worst. I thought it should get a 1.5/1.6 easily. Maybe no promotion? I don't know

    ReplyDelete
  12. I dont think they should have moved it to Friday at such a random time of the season, at the beginning of the season or January would have made so much more sense.

I would say give it a couple of weeks, let the audience get used to the change and I think it will go up.

Honestly it was a pretty bad idea from the start especially when you look at Fox's Tuesday-Thursday ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Devon Maxwell-PierceNovember 16, 2013 at 4:57 PM

Do you see CBS intact next year on Friday or will they cancel Blue Bloods and move another show?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'd replace Bones with Glee. Glee is already renewed and already reached new ratings lows, Bones used to do well on Thursdays and could do so again. I think though that Bones could increase next week, maybe some of its fans got confused and thought it'd start on Fridays only next week.. I hope.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I think CBS will keep Blue Bloods around for syndication.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Holy crap, I don't watch Bones but to see it go from a 2.0 on Monday to a 1.2 on Friday is just devastating for the fans. Raising Hope also dropped big time to a 0.7 from a 1.2 in its previous finale. Goes to show that FOX screwed up big time.

Awesome for Grimm adjusting up from last week. I loved the episode.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Well it appears as if CBS has found it's Friday night lineup for years to come.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Devon Maxwell-PierceNovember 16, 2013 at 5:00 PM

Oh, I thought it was S4. Oops.

    ReplyDelete
  19. It's in its fourth season already and will already reach episode episodes for syndication by the end of this season.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Totally ecstatic for the Grimm number. Got a bit worried last week but if it stays consistent in the mid 1's and since next season should be syndication season, I really think that it'll get a season 4 :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh, I thought it was in it's third season. My bad.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Bones no!! Fox killed it!! No season 10 now. I want to cry!

    ReplyDelete
  23. "Honestly it was a pretty bad idea from the start especially when you look at Fox's Tuesday-Thursday ratings."

    I agree.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't think there is any need to panic just yet. Its just one rating. One rating doesn't decide the fate of a show. I have hope the loyal audience will follow it to Friday. I wouldn't put too much weight on today's rating, it could look much better next week. Maybe some people weren't sure that the move is this week, since Fox aired Bones on Monday, the audience can always come back next week.

Grimm got a 1.3 last week and this week it rose to a 1.5. And i don't think anyone is saying that it will get canceled for that kind of rating. So if Bones can get its ratings to the 1.5 area, the show will be a safe bet for renewal.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The CW has to be inflated, right? If not, it's gonna make me feel even worse about Nikita's numbers last year.

Poor Bones. And I don't watch Raising Hope, but the fact that the wonderful Daniel Gillies used to be on it is reason enough for me to wish it did better than that.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Daniel Gillies is in Saving Hope, I don't think he guest starred in Raising Hope.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Not feasible because Glee will leave the schedule in one month and come back in spring only. Rake will take its place. So that would either imply launching Rake on Fridays (bad idea) or holding Bones until spring and have it run into summer (a waste I think).

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think Blue Bloods is fine as long as Intelligence tanks. If it doesn't tank, it comes down to one out of Blue Bloods and TGW I think. And then depends on the syndication deal they score for BB. TGW has an incredibly good one.

    ReplyDelete
  29. But there is no room on Wednesday or Thursday for it in spring... Where would you put it? Tuesdays would be a terrible idea as the NCIS twins would muder it I think. It would most likely perform only a bit higher than the comedies are there and the comedies are way more profitable due to the 18-34s they get.

    ReplyDelete
  30. As much as we love Nikita, I think we have to accept that it was a terrible performer ratings wise. America's Next Top Model beats it so often... It's sad but the truth.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think it's too soon to speak. It looks awful but the show should bounce back later. Maybe FOX didn't advertise it enough. I read that they were focused on advertising Almost Human and didn't push the new Friday. Maybe they should have just given it a hiatus like some people wanted from the get go and launch it in January.

    ReplyDelete
  32. A season 4 is a sure thing. It's one of the safest bets for renewal on any network. No doubt at all! Don't worry. Grimm is doing perfectly fine. It's down 10% year to year but the comparison is deflated because the comparing episodes were airing on Mondays during late summer.

    ReplyDelete
  33. H50 going up is a very good thing. And Undercover Boss is on fire lately.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh crap, I got the two shows mixed. Editing now, thanks. :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. I was just really worried with the 3 tenths and then the 2 tenths drop that the show would continue to drop and not even a switch to Friday's could justify that, but seeing today's numbers, I'm totally stoked since it's easily one of my favorite shows.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I totally agree with you about NCIS at 8, but it could maybe do okay against LA (since it's usually in the mid 2s). At least better than New Girl and Mindy are. Have B99 and New Girl before Bones and move Dads and Mindy to Fridays.

I don't know. I just still think it was/is a really stupid move by Fox. Sorry, but I do.

Oh, and the 18-34 ratings haven't been that good lately, except for New Girl and maybe B99.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I really hope this doesn't come out b*tchy, but if it does I'm sorry.

Anyway, I will be so happy when Almost Human finally premieres just because the promos will stop (for the most part). Don't get me wrong, I totally understand promoting a show so will do well, but Fox has done it so much that it's like it's the only show on the network (and it's not), IMO. And they didn't even promote Sleepy Hollow this much. Again, JMO.

Again, I'm sorry if that came out b*tchy.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Go Grimm! So glad to see it up from last week. :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. I don't think it came out as bitch-y but I don't think it's fair to blame FOX for promoting its newest show. They have a lot invested in it. They moved Bones for it actually. So they want to do the best they can for it to promote well. When Sleepy Hollow debuted, FOX also had to promote the premieres of Dads and B99, plus the returns of all the other shows. I think, if anything, networks are to blame for promoting shows less than they should. For instance, FOX is clearly at blame for not promoting Bones' move to Fridays as it should have.

    ReplyDelete
  40. No, that's untrue for 18-34s. These are the 18-34s for FOX this past week:
    - Bones (Monday): 1.6 (out of a 2.0 18-49)

    - Sleepy Hollow: 1.8 (out out of a 2.6 18-49)

    - Dads: 1.0 (out of a 1.4 18-49)

    - B99: 1.2 (out of a 1.4 18-49)

    - New Girl: 2.0 (out of a 1.7 18-49)

    - The Mindy Project: 1.5 (out of a 1.4 18-49)

    - The X-Factor (Wednesday): 1.4 (out of 1.7 18-49)

    - The X-Factor (Thursday): 1.1 (out of 1.3 18-49)

    - Glee: 1.5 (out of a 1.4 18-49)

So if you move Bones to Tuesdays at 8 it's certainly doesn't do better than what the comedies are doing there in 18-49, so let's say a 1.6. That would be about a 1.3 in 18-34 if the skew is the same, so it would be doing worse than the comedies are now. You also risk hurting New Girl by moving it to the family hour, potentially hurting its 18-34s and even 18-49. Finally, the comedies that you had moved to Friday would for sure be sub 1, so way worse than what Bones is doing. That doesn't work because all the 3 timeslots affected would perform worse, there is no single win for FOX there, only a win for Bones as a show and that's not the goal of a network.

Listen, I am a fan of Bones so I am sad with its results as well and I understand your frustration. It's just that so far, I haven't been presented with a reasonable alternative for a move that FOX could have done and I still think the move had more potential than it appeared because these numbers are very underwhelming. Had it pulled a 1.6 I would have called it successful.

I think the only other alternative, if these numbers are here to say (meaning I am doing this on hindsight and that I would probably still have done what FOX did) would have been putting Bones on hiatus this week until March (after the Olympics). By the end of January they will probably have a good idea of the levels at which American Idol, Rake and Almost Human are performing. If all of these are performing at good levels, I say let's Bones launch on Fridays with proper promotion. If not, let's use Bones to fill in either Wednesdays at 8 instead of 3 hours of AI, Thursdays at 9 cancelling Rake and sending Glee to Fridays for its return (I don't like this but well), or letting it return to Mondays at 8 to pair with The Following if AH flops. This would have been a safer option, but that doesn't mean what they did was wrong. It was bolder and I still appreciate it (maybe not the whole launching it in november without promotion... January would have been better but still)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Again, I totally get promoting it so it will do well, especially because it is taking Bones' spot, but there comes a point when it's over kill. I know more than likely because of the play-offs and World Series, but it's still gotten there, IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  42. First, I was only talking about the comedies 18-34 numbers because in your first reply you were only talking about the comedies, not everything on the network. And yes, a couple of them (the comedies) did do a bit better in that age group than the 18-49, but I wouldn't call the numbers good. JMO, though.

And again, I would definitely not want Bones on Tuesdays at 8 because it would get murdered by NCIS. But I do think it would have a better chance against NCIS: LA because LA usually gets in the mid 2s.

Lastly, I think we're just gonna have to agree to respectfully disagree about the 'Friday move' because I don't think either one of us will change our minds. :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Sarah,i think your jumping the gun here. Its only the first Friday showing, not everyone realizes that a new episode was on.Lets wait to see what the +7 are like, and the next few Fridays.

I know you rather not hear this but if you think about it Bones has had a fantastic run.Nine years is nothing to sneeze at.I think they did a remarkable job recuperating from Emily's pregnancy and having a shortened season because of it.Many people had also left when Brennan told Booth she was pregnant all because they didn't show them having sex.So actually they have already overcame so much that moving to Fridays is just another hurdle to get over....But if not, they still have the rest of the season,17,18 more episodes to do their magic.

Most shows don't get the privilege to last 5 years, let alone nine.Enjoy it while its on,i'm sure worrying about the ratings must kill some of the joy you get watching the show. And no matter how much we might want, nothing last forever, and at least we got to see them get married and its still going strong with their storylines so take a deep breath and relax! :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. well at least dracula never went down lol Hope it adjusts on Monday though

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh dear. Bones was way down from Monday. Heck, I thought that with less competition it would be considerably higher. Hope it was just that a lot of people didn't know it was changed to Fridays....
