-Ratings Breakdown:
ABC opened the week on a winning overnight note, once again, with a 14 percent advantage over No. 2 NBC. But NBC is a lock among adults 18-49 (and the other key young adult demos) thanks to “The Voice” and this season’s biggest new hit, “The Blacklist.” And ABC, unfortunately, could finish as low as No. 4 in adults 18-49. But, hey…viewers over age 50 should still matter.
“Dancing With the Stars” led the night in the overnights with an 8.8 rating/13 share from 8-10 p.m., which comparably was 13 percent below the 10.1/15 on the year-ago evening. SPOILER ALERT: If you don’t want to know who exited last night, skip the remainder of this paragraph. But Elizabeth Berkley… you were totally robbed. Obviously, many of the “Blue Collar Comedy Tour” fans are watching “Dancing With the Stars” given that Bill Engvall made it into the semi-finals.
“Castle” capped off the night with a dominant 6.8/12 in the overnights at 10 p.m., which was one-tenth of a rating point (or one percent) above competing “The Blacklist” on NBC (6.7/12). “Castle” was on par with the year-ago evening, while demo dominant “The Blacklist” outdelivered former time period occupant “Revolution” (4.6/ 8 on 11/12/12) by a considerable 46 percent.
Third-place CBS had a typical Monday, with freshman “Hostages” at 10 p.m. the weak link at a distant third-place 3.3/ 6. Comparably, that was 40 percent below year-ago time period occupant “Hawaii Five-O” (5.5/ 9 on 11/12/12). At this point, it looks like the Eye net will appropriately keep “Hostages” in the time period until the 16 ordered episodes conclude and upcoming midseason drama “Intelligence” is ready.
Earlier in the evening on CBS was the revised rotation of sitcoms “How I Met Your Mother” (5.4/ 8), “2 Broke Girls” (5.4/ 8), “Mike & Molly” (5.7/ 9) and “Mom” (4.6/ 7) at typical overnight levels. Each finished third in their time periods in the overnights, with retention for “Mom” out of “Mike & Molly” of an adequate 81 percent.
“Bones,” which shifts to Fridays at 8 p.m. (into returning “Raising Hope”) this week, opened on Fox with a respectable 4.7/ 7 (#4) at 8 p.m. And that led into a now typical 4.4/ 7 (#4) for already renewed “Sleepy Hollow” at 9 p.m., which was double the 2.2/ 3 for failed “Mob Doctor” on the year-ago evening. As always, “Sleepy Hollow” is expected to build from “Bones” by double-digit percentages among adults 18-49.
The CW, meanwhile, remained out of the competitive loop care of “Hart of Dixie” (#5: 1.1/ 2) and sophomore “Beauty and the Beast” (#5: 0.7/ 1), which has sunk to oblivion minus the former lead-in support from “The Vampire Diaries.”
