I somehow thought it would be Carter, so I was't shocked to see her go, though I am sad. At least it will move the show to another level - and for the next episode, it will get personal for Reese to bring Simmons down. However, the kiss... that was totally forced and inappropriate, I think it was the first thing I really did not like in the whole series.
Thank you. The kiss was totally forced. Really not well done at all. I wonder if Taraji wanted off the show and the writers scrambled or something, because this whole 3 episode event has seemed rather abrupt. I would have liked this episode a whole lot better without the kiss. I guess they're looking for a reason for Reece to go crazy in the next episode, but I could see him doing that anyway.
Exactly. Reese and Zoe have chemistry from sexual tension. Reese and Carter have chemistry from mutual admiration.
And correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't Carter's entire season about getting revenge for the killing of her lover, Beecher? The man she loved so much that she turned against the law she believes in to do multiple illegal activities in order to bring down HR.
Fusco turning the tables, easily! The entire episode (accept for the kiss) was awesome, and still that scene stands out above the others to me!
The expression on Kevin Chapman's face during that scene were absolutely horrific and and pure emotional. It may be the best single piece of acting I have seen from him and I have seen Chapman in multiple series for more than a decade since I think on 24. No, maybe Boondock Saints!
I thought he could be shot too and was just waiting....
I knew Shaw woudl rescue one of the two and was jsut holding my breath to see if she showed up to rescue Fusco or if she would say something on the other end of the phone! I exhaled at that point and then switched into wait and see mode v2.0 - Is Fusco dead?
I thought it was entirely possible he would die until I heard the words "broken fingers" and realized that cuffs do not stay on hands with broken bones. As it turns out, Fusco had to beak one (or more) bones in his thumb to get himself free, but that moment was the sign I was looking for. I literally giggled realizing he would stay alive at that point!
For me, it was Fusco turning the tables. But I also liked Fusco's interaction with Shaw, both on the phone after she had saved his son and later on, in the car.
the romantic vibe between Joss and John came out of nowhere, I'm highly suspicious that they put it this way just because they wanted to kill off Carter and gave her a "good" exit, how stupid!
Could see it now... Fusco showing up to help and Reese asked why he's got a black eye, to which Fusco complains about Shaw the previous night between the sheets, then lifts his shirt to show some scratch marks.
I'd say admiration is a lot more meaningful than sexual tension. ;) You're right that Carter might not have loved Reese in that way, but I could see it coming from Reese. Actually, the fact that only the two of them ''knew'' seems pretty romantic to me. I'm not sure what to think about the kiss, but it didn't bother me in that way.
Personally I never thought Carter could ever deal with or truly accept Reese's illegal activities. That alone would be a romance deal breaker. It absolutely never crossed my mind that they would be romantically involved ever because of that.
The show has suggested earlier that Reese and Zoe have a "thing"--Shaw even commented on the contrast between how it was obvious Zoe and Reese had something, but she didn't ghet what was up wih Carter. Some of fandom may have been "shipping" them, but then, every conceivable character combination--and not a few inconceivable ones--is shipped by someone, so there's nothing special or revealing about a fan segment desire for a particular match. For me, the kiss came out of left field and felt way too plot-convenient, rather than natural or organic.
Agreed. I've always liked him, but he took it to a whole new and very daring level there. It could so easily have crossed the line into the silly, but he held it just on the right side of the line. Great piece of work, in a show with no shortage of dynamite actors and performance moments.
Umm, yes that scene that suggested it was obvious that he had a 'thing' with Zoe. And she also hinted that there was something more than friendly going on with him and Carter, hence her "well you just friend" line that insinuated that she was more than just a friend to him. And I did not say that just because people were shipping them, they should be a thing. I said that because the OP said it seemed forced and inappropriate, and I was saying not to the people who has seen that chemistry from the beginning. Like I said I disagree with anyone thinking otherwise, you wasn't feeling it? Kudos.
I NEVER SAID THAT. Don't twist my words. Please read my previous post. I was referring to the OP saying it was inappropriate and forced. It was a bit rushed since they put it all out in this one episode, but it's been underlying since at least last season. You didn't choose to see that and that is fine. I could care less, but at the end of the day it happened and it is now canon. *shrug*
I assume 'Reese tells Carter he's there for her' is Carter's death? In which case, that one. I loved every other scene too, but that was far and away the best scene.
I'd like to add Finch tasing that HR guy. His line ''I'm the guy that's gonna catch you when you fall'' was badass in a Finchy way in this context, but it's also true in another way. Root used the metaphor of ''trust falls'' to describe Reese and Finch in Firewall. I don't know, I just liked how they used that again here. :p
I wrote another esponse to this earlier, but it seems to have vanished. . . . anyway, the crux of it was that Shaw's comment did not seem to me at all to hint at any romance between Reese and Carter, but the opposite. However, I deleted that episode from my PVR a while ago and can't check. Anyway, while I think the question of whether there was any chemistry between Reese and Carter from the beginning or from some other future point is definitely open to interpretation, I'd have to say that if the show intended the audience to se ethem as romantically-inclined towards eath other, it did not to as well in that regard as it might have done. I sure never saw anything that I took to suggest a romantic, as opposed to a professional or friendship-based, chemistry between them. if you saw it/felt it, well, we all read differently, I guess; I don;t think those of us who didn't,. though, are wrong ot suggest that in the context here it did not seem to emerge explicitly naturally.
Although this was mostly a Carter episode, and there were so many great scenes in this episode, I thought Fusco's scenes were so amazing and raw. I loved how this episode showed him acting out so many layers of human emotion. It was artful and entertaining to watch as Fusco was so brave, loyal, and tough during the interrogation; and then tender, loving, and sorrowful regarding his son; and then changing to animalistic rage and kickass to take down that guy. So, while Carter did have lots of great scenes, my favorite ones in this episode were the Fusco ones.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
THE KISS!
ReplyDeleteAll the scenes were great.
Loved Carter/Reese scenes
Loved Finch/Root scenes
Loved Shaw/Fusco scenes
Great episode (minus the last 30secs)
But i guess it makes the show intensify and grow.
I somehow thought it would be Carter, so I was't shocked to see her go, though I am sad. At least it will move the show to another level - and for the next episode, it will get personal for Reese to bring Simmons down.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the kiss... that was totally forced and inappropriate, I think it was the first thing I really did not like in the whole series.
It did kind of seem to come form nowhere, didn't it?
ReplyDeleteWhere's the "Entire Episode" option?
ReplyDeleteShaw and Fusco need to get it on ...
ReplyDeleteThank you. The kiss was totally forced. Really not well done at all. ReplyDeleteLike I said, I disagree completely.
ReplyDeleteNo. Just no. Haha!
ReplyDeleteno way to choose, this ep was chock full of fantastic scene after scene...
ReplyDeleteExactly.
ReplyDeleteReese and Zoe have chemistry from sexual tension.
Add in that context and the kiss was even worse.
OK :)
ReplyDeleteFusco turning the tables, easily!

True that.
ReplyDeleteAlso, when we heard the shot through the phone, I really thought Fusco's son was dead.
ReplyDeleteI thought he could be shot too and was just waiting....
ReplyDeleteI knew Shaw woudl rescue one of the two and was jsut holding my breath to see if she showed up to rescue Fusco or if she would say something on the other end of the phone!

Isn't there entire fandoms waiting for 2 straight characters of the same sex to kiss each other on some shows though? XD
ReplyDeleteWhat a fandom wants does not and should never influence a show.
Yeah, I am glad he made it too, I just didn't see Shaw saving his son, it surprised me in that moment.
ReplyDeleteFor me, it was Fusco turning the tables. But I also liked Fusco's interaction with Shaw, both on the phone after she had saved his son and later on, in the car.
ReplyDeleteI loved the kiss, Reese and Zoe were F*#@ buddies, but Reese loved Joss. and I think Joss realized she loved Reese.
ReplyDeletethe romantic vibe between Joss and John came out of nowhere, I'm highly suspicious that they put it this way just because they wanted to kill off Carter and gave her a "good" exit, how stupid!
ReplyDeleteIt was just primal!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely transformed like you said!
Looking back we should have known better since Fusco is "bad ass... and the bad guys don't want any part of him!" XD
ReplyDeleteWhatever he said to his son before going out... It was right in the end. Don't mess with the Fusco! XD
That thought crossed my mind.
ReplyDeleteCould see it now... Fusco showing up to help and Reese asked why he's got a black eye, to which Fusco complains about Shaw the previous night between the sheets, then lifts his shirt to show some scratch marks.

ReplyDeleteShaw telling Fusco it was going to be okay. Fusco turning the tables and...that moment when Finch hears the phone ring and knows he just lost someone.
ReplyDeleteYou really need to add a "All the episode" button, not a single second of this one where I was not totally into the action
ReplyDeleteIt would give him another context for that intensely maniacal facial expression....
ReplyDeleteThe show has suggested earlier that Reese and Zoe have a "thing"--Shaw even commented on the contrast between how it was obvious Zoe and Reese had something, but she didn't ghet what was up wih Carter. ReplyDeleteAaaaay-friggin-men! (Well, it should never, but suspect that it often actually does....)
ReplyDeleteYep! I assumed that that was a shout-out.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I've always liked him, but he took it to a whole new and very daring level there. It could so easily have crossed the line into the silly, but he held it just on the right side of the line. Great piece of work, in a show with no shortage of dynamite actors and performance moments.
ReplyDeleteReally? I turned to my wife right away and said, "That was Shaw just shooting that cop."
ReplyDeletehello!!! the kiss! and the ending! my heart is broken! no way this will end like that!!
ReplyDeleteUmm, yes that scene that suggested it was obvious that he had a 'thing' with Zoe. ReplyDeleteOne more: Root and Finch about Reese's predecessors.

ReplyDeleteMy fav (not in order):
ReplyDelete1) All Fusco scenes.
2) When you see Reese in love for the first time (both when he kissed Carter and when he was DEVASTATED when Carter was murdered).
3) This whole episode.
Even though it is sad her character died, I was also happy about her death scene. Not as emotional like Charlie, but brilliantly executed.
