  1. That was intense! Whoa at the governor showing up at the end. Did not expect that one.

Ugh, I love her, but Maggie pissed me off when she sided with Rick. Glad Glenn and Hershel are okay!

So Carol was kicked out for nothing because all those people died anyway. Nice going, Rick. Can't wait for Daryl's reaction.

    Great episode!

  2. That episode had me on the edge of my seat. I was literally ready to pull my hair out worrying that Hershel was going to die. Now The Governor's back. One thing I didn't see in the previews for next week's episode though was Martinez and Shumpert. I wonder where they are? Did The Governor kill them?

  3. Carol wasn't kicked out for nothing. She was kicked out for murdering two people. She tried to stop the epidemic from spreading and it still spread which means she murdered two people for nothing. I think Rick may have banished Carol for her own good. God only knows what Tyreese would've done to her when he found out what she did. He probably would've killed her which would've forced Daryl to kill him. It would've been a war within the prison walls.

  4. Damn that was intense. I always doubted they would kill off Glenn but when he started coughing up blood i had a major freak out. So glad Hershel made it past this episode, I have been worried since last week, so that was a nice surprise.
And I really hope Maggie doesn't get crap for saying that what Rick did was right. Because while not the most sensible reaction he wasn't completely in the wrong and it wasn't like Maggie was over the moon about what he did.

  5. There was that Governor cameo. Oh oh. Crazy coming.

Tamina: Hell yeah! (Am I right?)

    Haha

    Darryl: "He's a tough SOB."
    Hershel: "He is."
    Darryl: "You're a tough SOB."
    Hershel: "I am."

He definitely is. I can't believe Hershel didn't fall sick.

Poor Hershel. Felt bad for him when he was crying in his cell.

So glad the medicine came in time and Glenn didn't die. I was so worried.

The girl, Lizzie, when she was leading the zombie going "good boy, come on" something like that anyways... IT'S NOT A DOG! It was freakin human and now a dead thing out for your meat! I hope she learned her lesson when she tripped and the zombie almost bit her - likely not.

Liked Rick and Carl working together.

The fence coming down is a sign they need to consider moving asap. I have a feeling The Governor will make his move before than though. Not like the sickness wasn't bloody enough. There isn't going to be many people after this season left.

  6. Great episode!

I love that Hershel made it. I also loved the scene between Carl and Rick with them fighting the zombie horde together. Rick needs to realize that Carl can be an asset. His innocence is gone, so Rick should just turn his focus on keeping his humanity!

  7. I know Carol fans will be angry that Maggie sided with Rick, but what did they expect? Carol murdered two sick people in cold blood. What's to stop her from killing Glenn or anyone else that is very sick?

I liked the Rick/Maggie RIck/Hershel Rick/Carl scenes. All in all it was a great episode for Rick, Hershel, Maggie, and Carl.

  8. Rick made the right decision re: Carol. She killed those two BEFORE they turned. That's the key. As we saw with Hershel, Sasha, and some of the others, it is possible that they would not have turned or could have been saved.

I understood Carol's rationale, but she acted rashly and should have consulted the Council before doing anything!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I loved Carol and was looking forward to an eventual Daryl/Carol pairing but I understood Rick's decision last week and am fine with Maggie! Carol had to go!

  10. I dont even have to say it. We all know how great this episode was. Im glad hershel survived because i was pretty sure he was gonna die. That being said, with the governor back, his days are numbered i think

    ReplyDelete
  11. Terrible episode. Why did they leave the cages open during the day when anyone can die and turn into the walking dead? Just something they wrote in so they can have that dramatic scene at the end, and because it was so stupid it was hard to feel any of the suspense. Just had me laughing through it all.

The part with Carl and the assault rifle was bad ass, and seeing Rick finally letting go and letting his son be a man was good development - the look on his face as he saw his son take that step next was a a nice touch to the scene. Also, I do like what they did with Hershel in this arc.

But overall, the episode was terrible - very slow, depressing, and more of the same of the past episodes spent in Cell Block D with the sick, on top of the added stupidity with the open cages n all.

  12. yeh that annoyed me with that Lizzie acting as if the zombie is a freaking dog or something there is something mentally wrong with that kid for sure

    ReplyDelete
  13. it was kinda annoying but i won't complain because that pretty much saved Glenn's life. Thanks Lizzie, your weirdness actually contributed.

  14. I liked the episode overall but I agree about the cells being open. No one should have objected to that. It protects everyone from events such as these! The cells should be locked at all times until Hershel comes to check on you. End of story.

Other nitpick: big group of zombies tear down the fence. Where are the stragglers? Surely there are some lurkers out there in the forest. Did they patch up those fences in that short amount of time? This is unclear to me. We saw them cleaning out bodies, but what of the fence? IDK. This episode just passed over all that. Father and son share a pea pod and then head away from the garden. So all is well again? That didn't work for me so much.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Totally agree. We can like or not Rick's decision, but I think he did it to save Carol's life.

  16. Great episode. Got to see the sickness truly start to take people down (Herschel included because all the death and "God's plan" started to get to him). Rick/Carl was nice too with Rick finally realizing that Carl has grown up and become a man, someone that Rick doesn't need to protect. Of course he'll try, but he can trust Carl to hold his own, unlike earlier seasons.

Curious how Daryl will handle Carol being gone, I'm sure he'll be upset, but if Rick explains his thinking, I think Daryl would ultimately accept it. I don't think we'll get to see it next week though, I recall something said awhile before the season started that there would be a Governor-centric episode, which looks like we'll be getting next week.

Speaking of which, great time to bring back the Governor. Now that the sickness has been finally dealt with, we can transition into the Governor and whatever crazy scheme he's got cooking.

  17. Intense and fantastic episode.... fantastic work by Scott Wilson in particular. One thing that I didn't get, that despite the noise attraction factor, why didn't Rick/or anyone for that matter use the automatic weapons to thin out the walkers at the outer fence before it became too much of a problem? They ended up having to use them anyway once the perimeter was breached.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I thought Glenn was a goner when they stuck that down his throat and he all of a sudden went quiet. I thought for sure he'd died up until Maggie told him he'd be ok. My heart stopped lol. Also when Hershel was helping Sasha and that girl turned in the cell next to him. That part was intense too.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think he saw that when Carl basically saved his life. Rick was careless twice in this episode once when the walker grabbed his ankle and then again when he allowed the walker to get too close when he was low on ammo. His reluctance to be violent's going to get him killed. Maggie saved him then Carl saved him. He paused to stare at Carl realizing he hasn't lost his humanity he's just doing what it takes to survive.

  20. At a time I was looking forward to a pairing between the two as well but they drug it out too long and now it's old news. Also I worry that putting Daryl in a relationship would take away from his badassness a bit. He has his sensitive moments like with the rose and the stone but there's a sense of badassness behind them. I think if he was to get into a relationship he'd lose that a small bit.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Sharing the pea pod was symbolic. They're basically saying that the two of them are like two peas in a pod. They're just alike. Why are we nitpicking here though. I mean every show does things like this. If they spent the episode showing every little nitpicky thing it'd run over an hour for sure. When watching television it's up to the viewer to use a little bit of their imagination.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yeah I heard that The Governor will have two standalone episodes which I'm sure will be starting next week. It'll be like last season's episode entitled Walk With Me when The Governor was officially introduced.

  23. You know who needs an antibiotic? Rick. That hand is looking nasty, bleeding through the gauze. Kirkman swears he's not going to do the amputation that was in the comics, but this hand thing is going to lead to something bad.

  24. Hershel was just awesome in this episode. I like his take on things and his interactions with almost everybody.
Still don´t know how I feel about Rick. I´m not suggesting that he did the wrong thing about Carol, it´s more the way he is doing it. I´m guessing that there will be a conflict amongst them all when the others find out. Tyreese will be mad that Rick didn´t bring her back to the prison and hopefully Daryl will be mad that Rick just dealt with it without discussing it with the counsil first.
    The Governor is back!

  26. I said that too, before I read your post. If they had mowed the zombies down while they were pushing against the fence, they'd have had a chance to reinforce the fence before hell broke loose.

  27. Hershel shows how it should be done. Keep the faith, keep the hope, keep the charity. And teach others to do the same.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Such an intense and amazing episode! Looking forward to the Daryl/RIck confrontation next week.

  29. And shooting them after they got through the fence didn't?

  30. First, I've got to say I think that was one of the best "Talking Dead" installments in awhile -- both guests were funny, insightful, quick-thinking, creative in their responses, and extremely up-to-date on the show (perhaps the most vital ingredient). I personally like the 2-guest format much better, not to mention that I love both Breckin Meyer and Adam Savage. Awesome job!

As for the episode itself, what a moving tour-de-force for one of my favorite characters, Hershel. It was especially heartbreaking the way he closed his Bible at the very end and just broke down sobbing. He is usually so reliably calm and centered -- this scene really drove home how exhausting it's been for him to stay strong and hopeful for the sake of everyone else in the group. I also like the way this episode "paired" both fathers (Hershel and Rick) with their offspring in separate "call of duty" bonding moments. A really inspiring way to strengthen those character connections, in my opinion.

I'm especially interested to see how Tyreese vs. Daryl will react to the news about Carol. She was another of my very favorite characters. I just love how they gradually evolved her arc (I personally feel she is in no way sociopathic or untrustworthy, and has simply become a "let's take action" type of person). I very much hope they can figure out some way to come to terms with her transgression, and welcome her back into the fold at some point.

Also, for whatever reason -- despite all the disgusting zombie kills TWD cooks up every week -- the absolute grossest scene I've witnessed in the series so far would be Hershel intubating a flat-lining Glen with the plastic tube he'd just yanked out of the dead walker's throat. Seriously thought I was gonna lose my dinner. I feel kind of queasy just typing this. :)

  31. Great episode!
This season the level of the series has been so high it is hard to really rank episode above or below another. I may appreciate or connect with one episode more, but on re-watch a different episode will really connect with me. To me that is the human element of this series. It does such a brilliant job connecting to the human condition that depending on your mood each episode will affect you differently.

The Greenes and Grimes truly rocked this episode!
The father / child dynamic of the two families played perfectly against one another. Hershell (and Rick) may be tough son'bitch, but their kids are too!

Like many I still have issues with the doors not being locked or even shut!
They had keys last season and most of the doors have external locks. People do not want to be confined, I understand, but in an epidemic you lock and confine. You do not let people wander around because it is daylight.

Lizzie was extra special nuts again! XD
First, affectionately calling the walker over to her like it was a pet and then patting the bloodstained floor like it was a keepsake from an friend!

No surprise Maggie accepted Rick's decision.
It was the right choice on two levels. One, Carol could not return to the prison for murdering the two people, but also because Rick let her live. I personally might argue Carol should be killed, but letting hr live is the way to appease the few people who may have issue with Carol not returning to the prison.

The Gov sure looked comfy out there beyond the walls of the prison. I wonder how long he has been there?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Actually Carol's decision to kill Karen and David was proved wrong by the fact that the antibiotics worked. Hershell's tea may have helped too.

I think people can legitimately argue that Rick's decision was too harsh or not harsh enough, but there is no doubt Carol was wrong.

  33. Re:"Can't believe Hershel didn't fall sick." Carl made mention of the fact to his father, that he himself did not get sick nor did Rick. I think there's an immunity that some people just happen to have.

  34. Symbolism is not lost on me. And I'm glad we don't have scene after scene of mundane tasks being performed. But this was a huge line in their defense. I was just wondering how they fixed it. And so quickly. That's all.

    ReplyDelete
  35. If episode 6 and 7 is his standalone episode then the episode 8 mid-season finale will indeed bring the governor to the front gates of the prison lol

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hershel closed each of the cells after he left them, the sick people in the cells kept openning them back up. The only part about it that could seem unbelievable is that they didn't lock the cells, and even that isn't entirely unbelievable.

  37. Zombie Obedience School. XD

  38. It was my favorite episode of the season. The character moments were so strong and the adrenaline rush was there all along. I really thought Glenn was gone, it was really painful to see, I thought Maggie would get there just to see him die. Maggie has turned into one of my favorite characters by the way, she is awesome. I have to say that nothing can still beat the Rick-Carl dynamic for me here. I loved that Rick realized he needed him and that he was a grown up already. Poor Hershell. I don't even know how to describe this episode very well. It had everything and that it even had that Governor cameo at the end. It was simply amazing.

  39. Haha, 'buy the farm' :D

I agree that it would have probably served them better to pick off the walkers at the fence before it got too much. I get that they are trying to keep the noise down, and yes there is probably a megahorde heading their way, but it was kinda stupid to let the situation at the fence get that bad in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yeah, that is why I think they need to move because of the zombie mass that seems to be headed their way and lack of members.

I find it strange too how little people there seems to be left. I think there is more than we're seeing though.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hershel is a true hero. I loved how Maggie is so proud of her dad. Well done, Scott and Lauren. I hope they don't break up Glenn and Maggie, just because it would be so melodramatic.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Awesome Talking Dead. One of these days I want to watch the Mythbusters Zombie Episode. Here it is, by the way: http://rainiertamayo.com/mythbusters-zombie-special.html.

    ReplyDelete
  43. That's the episode I'm expecting to see a few major deaths. At least two I'm sure. I see Hershel finally saying goodbye and possibly Beth.

    ReplyDelete
  44. We all could sit here and tell how we would do this and that but it'd be a waste of time. Me I'd grab a bunch of abandoned cars and line them up against the fence to keep the walkers away from the fence or even put a crew out with guards protecting them to ditch huge ditches for the walkers to fall into. The sick yes they should've been locked inside their cells but the only healthy one in there was Hershel who is an old man with one leg. I'm sure he didn't want to start locking people up fearing there could be some sort of mutiny where everyone would panic taking him out. We can't nitpick. I mean I know the characters use the restroom from time to time but I don't need to know when they do it. Point being we don't have to see everything that takes place.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I think it was one of the best The Walking Dead episodes and the best in this season so far.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I did wonder at the end of the Season 3 finalé why'd they go ahead and bring so many extras into the bunch. Now I know - redshirts (no pun intended) :P

    ReplyDelete
  47. nah if you look close there's two tents in the scene, plus Martinez is in the sneak peek so I guess Shumpert should be alive then too.

Also, I don't think Gov is alone outside prison. I think 4x06 will be a flashback episode and 07-08 will be prison vs governor

    ReplyDelete
  48. The Governor went to his usual spot every sunday night to watch his favorite drama and see Rick & prison co run around

    ReplyDelete
  49. Yep the classic red shirts.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I read that there will be two standalone episode featuring The Governor. I'm expecting eps 6 and 7 to be all about The Governor and what he's been doing since the attack on the prison up until now and then ep 8 will be when he carries out whatever plan he has against the prison.
