  4. The end of an epic arc, brilliant script, powerful scene by all cast, great direction, great soundtrack and one of the most amazing episode of the year.

    Justice, Carter was revenged with justice, the episode explain in complex way, in simple way exploring the past of each member of the team.

    Great action packed, Reese badass, Fusco badass, Shaw badass, Root (hot) badass.

    Finch was the voice of the reason and the team machine was broken, but will healing with the time.

    Amazing, just amazing and that end with Elias killing Simmons awesomeeeeeeeeeeeeee I not see that scene coming.

  5. Holy crap, what a great episode!

  6. It was definitely best written episode of POI, the writing was on just another level, all the flashbacks brilliant and then ending was awesome, justice done and like they said in Shaw's flashbacks there is difference between "fixing" and "healing", glad they didn't went full revenge and didn't ruined Reese's character. Surpasses Prisoners Dilemma for me.

  7. Amazing episode. We will miss you Carter :(

  8. Definitely one of the best episodes.

  9. Absolutely epic television. No better way to describe it. POI only skips the title sequence for very special episodes, so when it was missing at the start of this one, I switched on even more.

    I'm pleased Simmons is gone. He did his dash, but Quinn remains which I'm somewhat pleased about. I'm also very pleased that it was Elias and Scarface who killed Simmons too, for some strange reason. And yep, I called it. Root is stepping up now which I'm really looking forward to seeing.

    I love it how the cliffhanger this season is uncertainty. There are a multitude of crossroads across several story arcs right now, so anything could happen.

    Bring on 2014!

  11. One of the, if not THE, best episodes of the series. Phenomenal writing and packed with everything we love: people getting shot in knees, general bad assness (from everyone!), Bear being adorable, cars getting rammed by bigger cars, and good ol' explosions. We even had one of the best openings to a show I've ever seen. I could've watched a whole episode of no dialogue and just a song played over while shit went down.

    Reese going dark and just leaving a wake of death behind him was awesome to follow. I'm glad he didn't end up killing Quinn, even though he chose to except his gun was all bloodied up.

    I'm so proud of Fusco! I've wanted Fusco to be the one to kill Simmons for so long... but what happened... was even better! He was right. He is a better man now, Carter (and Reese/Finch) helped become one. Why ruin that for a piece of scum like Simmons? And he got to break that bastard's arm! Go Fusco! And I'm glad Simmons did end up dying, good ol' Elias coming through.

    Plus we got to see Root being bad ass... and I share Shaw's thoughts: hot. Glad she decided to stick around. Sure she's probably got some other ideas going, but I like the idea of her sticking around to help with what's coming. I read somewhere an idea of another machine being built, which I kind of like the idea of.

  12. I don't think I ever saw a show which had such a flawless new season... S3 has been so far outstanding. Seasons 1 and 2 didn't have such a perfect 10-episode run.

  13. First off, Johnny Cash's cover of Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt" is one of the best cover songs ever!
    Period.

    How painful - yet awesome - was that intro?

    Team Machine kicking ass and taking names in full vendetta mode! Reese is now so cold he lets the criminals die in the car crash burning alive rather than kill them quickly. I mean I understand, If they do not give him Simmons location then why should he give them a quick and painless death...

    Shaw was in fine pre-Christmas mode hanging criminals as holiday decorations...
    So miss "I wanna kill someone" was once almost a Doctor? Talk about career path readjustment!
    I so agree about using two guns being lame! XD

    It was so, so nice to see so much Detective Fusco in one episode!
    I love how he offered to stay and clean up as a ruse to get Simmons exit strategy! XD
    As the lone conduit to the police force I expect him to have a larger role once again. Well not if he keeps on taking on badguys alone. Didn't he learn from Carter's mistake? Rage can fuel a man and in this case it was enough! Thank the TV gods!

    - Root was slightly less over-the-top thankfully.
    - Awesome to see Elias take out Simmons.
    Enrico Colantoni is so awesome when he plays the malevolent mastermind!
    - Really interesting to see how each member of Team Machine dealt with loss in the past!

    - I liked how the episode began with the heart monitor beeping and ended with the flatline... Full circle poetic justice!

    This was a really nice cap to the 3-episode arc. Maybe not as awesome as last episode, but awesome nonetheless!

  14. When I first saw Cash's video for Hurt it was an emotional experience!
    Just so POWERFUL!

    This intro captured the spirit of the video (and song of course) and was just moving.

    Agree with what everyone else said. Talk about a mesmerizing hour of television.

  16. I love the original!
    I've been a NiN fan since sometime in 1988 before Pretty Hate Machine came out. My friend was a DJ and had a copy of some demo tracks for the CD.

    There is just something about Cash's version hits me hard... even harder than the original. Something in his voice where you can just feel the pain of a man that has lived fast and hard and is now near death.

  17. I have found Acker's portrayal over-the-top the amjority of the time she is on screen personally. The character may be measured and calculated, but the performance is not IMO.

    It is almost the cliche of a deranged villain. Show a typical Root scene to anyone that dos not watch the show and they will be able to guess that Root is slightly mad and a villain.

    Some people are drawn to that and find it fun, I find it a bit campy and cartoonish.
    I still like the character over all, but wish Acker underplayed it more.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Sorry have to disagree Acker never over plays her part imo of course i think she is the mvp of the season with a ridiculously small amount of screen time

  19. Where did you find this? I'm going to be happy with one more new episode, but it seems to me very strange - and from rating POV very counterproductive.

  25. Thank you for sharing! My fan heart is happy that a new episode will come shortly but I keep my opinion that single shots after a longer hiatus has a negative impact on the ratings. But as long as CBS isn't concerned about it, it's none of my business. (I know PoI is good at 10 pm, with an almost sure renewal for the next season, but their numbers aren't really great and haven't got much leeway to slip. Last season it had lost about one third of its autumn ratings in the second half of the season, there are no safety zone for repeating this in this season.)

  26. Seriously. The opening sequence just blew my mind. The only song of Johnny Cash's that I ever really liked and I loved the way it was used here. That was awesome. Simply awesome. If I could vote at Emmy time. I have said it before and must say it again...Person of Interest is one of the best written shows on TV right now. Tonight every department responsible for putting an episode together nailed it.

    I need an option higher than 'Awesome.'

  27. Quotes from today's episode:

    Fusco: Witnesses put our pal as pschopathic vigilante
    Finch: Which one?
    Fusco: You mean both your stray dogs are off the leash. This is the handy work of tall dark and deranged (Reese). i shudder to think what the other one (Shaw) is up to.
    ========================
    Fusco - He's (dead lawyer) the only one who know where he (Quinn) is. We're out of options
    Shaw - There is one. Harold knows what i'm talkin about. We need Root
    =================
    Fusco: i would have drove separately had i know the car pooling arrangements (looks at Root)
    Finch: Ms Groves is here to help us locate Mr. Alonzo Quinn
    ================
    Fusco - You just shot a federal marshall
    Shaw - Just between us not my first time
    ==============
    US Marshall: i guess i underestimated your popularity. Lets move.
    Quinn - No point..The guy (Reese) whose coming after me, your men won't be able to stop him.
    ===============
    Reese - Where's Simmons exit
    Quinn - Loyalty thats what we're (hr) built on. I'm not telling you whether or not you threaten to kill me
    Reese I'm not going to threaten to kill you i am going to kill you whether you tell me or not.
    ==========
    Fusco - I got lucky. I had a parnter. She was good for me for alot of reaseons. She reminded that I could be good again too, good father, good friend, good cop. I'm not going to let you undo all the good she did. Carter saved my life. She saved me from myself. becayse she believed in.me. I'm not going to throw it away on a piece of crap like you. Officer Simmons you're under arrest. You have the right to remain silent.

  28. I have to agree with you on this one DarqueMode. I loved the NiN version. But for me, Cash (a singer whose work I have NEVER enjoyed - and growing up in Memphis couldn't completely escape) brings to bare the full weight of 70 some years of regret and pain. IIRC I think he'd lost his wife not too long before he recorded this. I don't think Cash could have done this song this well when he was 30.

    I was checking some dates and saw a quote from Trent Reznor about Cash's version. It implies he agreed about the power of Cash's cover.

  32. "Just when I think the life with you guys couldn’t get any weirder, one of you takes it to the next level."

    I think they have a new tagline for the show :) Great episode, period.

    Among the excellent tidbits the really outstanding point was how the writers built the episode around honoring Carter by each main player. Shaw went hunting, Reese was willing to die and kill for her, Finch stopping him because it would have been her wish, Fusco remaining a good cop because it is her legacy and finally Elias doing what eventually all of us wished, to do the killing blow.

  33. This COULD be the best episode in the shows existence.
    Certainly the best 1 since season 1.
    I mean I didn't even hate Shaw in this episode, that's how amazing it was.
    Root & Elias are my two favorite "bad people who do good things" on any show out there & both of them played big parts, just brilliant cast management & writing.
    I'm about to re-watch it right after I post this because I was that amazed by it that I feel I need to see it again.

  34. I am not sure what to say about this. It was mind blowing and I didn't think they could live up to last week. The last 3 episodes of the show have been some of the finest TV I remember watching and I watch a lot of TV. Jim caviezel was incredible, as was Michael Emerson, and the whole cast really. I teared up again watching this during that final Fusco scene. It's twice this has happened to me now with the show and this really doesn't happen to me... ever. Brilliant job.

  35. This episode really has brought POI back into that true description of what makes a superior TV drama as opposed to all the others out there. These guys just took this show to another new level and blew their viewers away who may have been worried at the being of this season that things were becoming slightly procedural and possibly even boring and stale. Kudos to the writers and production teams of POI!!

    Can't even begin to say how this episode made me again realize why I started to watch this show, other than I love Michael Emerson and his brilliant acting. The depth and range that tptb took these characters on was amazing and even though I am sad to see Carter gone, I can see that we are going to be taken on another arc of POI.

    I have been trying to warm up to Shaw also but I think we may be in store for more of who she is now that there is a new set up with both Root and Shaw in the mix. I like her toughness, just as I like the craziness of Root. They add something new to this world of numbers and information that has gone to the nth degree.

    I can hardly wait to have Fusco also get even more air time this season. I think he has been a great character to develop and is still that link to the NYPD for the team.

    Television shows are suppose to evolve and this one has just made the next leap! Thanks POI for making us want to see where this story is going next. :)

  36. This was.. impressive. Very impressive.
    Well done, crew. Still missing Carter, though :'(

    ReplyDelete
  37. She is anything but cliche and i dont think she is even a villain,Shaw would have killed more but apparently she is a hero {scratches head}

    ReplyDelete
  38. Obviously people can choose to categorize characters by their preference and could even call members of Vigilance heroes if they agree with their manifesto, and likewise you are free to worship Root, but I choose to judge her by how she has related to the show's protagonists, Team Machine. That is as an antagonist. A villain.

    Root's future role may change and she could be a villain evolving into a heroine permanently or temporarily...and then maybe turn back to villain yet again. Or not. Since I do not pretend to know what role she will take in the future I can only judge her by her past which was absolutely the role of villain.

  39. Perfect episode. First of all- a beautiful choice of music. "Hurt" in the begging was very powerful. Second- very interesting seeing the gang getting psych evaluation.
    I have to say: Fusco in this episode really impressed me. I love his sense of loyalty and justice. He's a good cop, and the scene with simmons amazing to watch. I'm very proud of him ;')
    I'm also very pleased with Elias. Although he's ruthless, he does have his principles and and I love this about him.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Fusco vs Simmons was just as I thought. Fusco can succeed only in close combat. Fusco is short, stocky and look quite strong. Typical heavy hitter, whose need to get close to opponent and this happened. I wonder if maybe his journey on the show will be ending soon. His redemption has now completed.

    ReplyDelete
  41. That was just... wow. That was an outstanding episode. I'm dying to see where the show is headed now, with Carter dead & HR gone, this truly feels like the end of an era.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thanks for supplying the link to that opening! I normally do not like music montages, because they're almost always so cheesy. However, POI used it so effectively, with the cold opening, and using an apropos song, that underlies the meaning behind the story they were telling, and that they told so much of that story in short clips of action too. That alone was so beautifully done, let alone the rest of this excellent episode.

    ReplyDelete
  43. A masterpiece. What great television this three-part trilogy has been! I am so impressed with how artful this episode was, from the beautiful, soulful cold open intro, to the past scenes of each of the current team members, to the current state of each of their characters, showing us the progress they've each undergone. I like the underlying theme of "justice", and what that means to each of the characters, and how they went about achieving it. I also liked how Carter's legacy has such an impact on each of the characters too. Although she's gone, Carter will undoubtedly never be forgotten. Kudos to the cast and crew for an amazing episode, with great directing, acting, writing, and everything else I forgot to mention!
