The problem is that this felt like a bottle ep suited for the middle of the season. There are too many questions for them not to give a few answers even without Bo (due to AS not being able to film for the first couple of weeks)
Wow. That was the WEIRDEST episode Lost Girl has ever done and yet it worked in its surrealism.
- Ksenia Solo was BRILLIANT this episode. On Fire. - Dyson and Kenzi have some damn great chemistry with each other.
- THAT DANCE. Oh my gods. That's literally the HOTTEST thing Lost Girl has ever shown
Otherwise I am fine with surrealism in the episode, because it IS an "altered" reality. Everything is off, so it should feel so. Our reality is a complex matter of actions and consequences. Take away even smallest detail and it all falls apart.
I'll wait the next episodes to see if this episode was realy awful. We need to know who took their memories and why. I expected a lot more for a season premiere, but maybe this is an important part they need for the next episodes. lets wait.
IT was refreshing and very different. It focused on second best actress in the show and it opened up quite literally quite a LOT of plotlines, at the same time perfectly delivering the macabre feeling of everything being "upside down" as Anna Silk said.
Its literally best Lost Girl premiere since S1 premiere.
Couldn't agree more! When I saw the bad poll results this morning, I braced myself for the worst....and was really surprised by the episode. Refreshing! The plot does make a lot of sense (a world without Bo), I can't wait for the next episode!
Loved Hale getting his siren on and actually being effective--I'm sure it will go away immediately, because debilitating power from a distance is death to a hand-to-hand combat show like this. Ksenia looked amazing in that dress with her hair done. But the halfway between Kenzi and Bo was awkward. I LOVE Kenzi as a character, the two-timing the roles tried to replace spunk with sexuality and Bo's darker tone for Kenzi's witty careless one, and it wasn't as successful as I would have liked. I loved the throwaway Kenzi and Dyson moments, but not the together ones, that was ick. And the overly fawning trite comments from Hale, ick, the first one was well it felt like a ripoff of Veronica Mars and after that the mild humor was definitely gone. So basically, the writing and direction sucked. George Takei didn't need to speak that slowly all the time and not really have anything to say, they could have given us a good motivation to not get their memories back had some underlying drama. Not just a quest that of course they were going to accomplish. No tension, nothing working at odds with the heroes getting what they wanted. The writing was just so bad. Most of Kenzi's witticisms fell flat. No real careful exposition of a world without Bo, what was the point if you aren't going to make a point? Have a throwaway episode without Silk?
I don't think this was an awful episode but it wasn't awesome either. It seemed weird but i think that was the idea. A world without Bo implies some kind of dinamic change between the group (Denzi, Kenzi defending Lauren,...). I also think it was obvious that AS really is the central piece of the show, she was missed terribly :). Kenzi dance scene was really good and even Dyson was a very different person. I could use a little more of Lauren but was expecting to see her only at the end (they were still playing the #WereIsLauren game). I think it will be interesting to see how they handle the consequences of they actions while they had no memory. I liked the episode, did i want more for a premiere? Yes i did, after last season i wanted more answers. But i understand why they did it, allowing AS to be more time with her baby. :)
The poll and overall hate mostly stems from certain insanely vocal parts of certain ship, who believe that this show is not a show without certain two characters being together
Dyson is at his best when he is with Kenzi, and the damnable love triangle does nothing positive for his character. So I LOVED seeing some Dyson/Kenzi action. Those two are good together, with a healthy friendship working for them underneath it all. The episode was a bit boring though. Kenzi needs to play off Bo to really work well as a character, and you could definitely feel something vital was missing. Better than the S2 opener but not even the various guest stars could help salvage such a Bo-lite episode. It has become a bit of a nasty habit of this show to sideline Bo so other characters can play hero, and whenever it happens the episode and show suffers. I'll give them a pass on this episode since this was caused by Anna Silk having just given birth, but I hope the writers focus on Bo being the hero. Instead of standing off to the side while Character A or B jumps in front and gets all the action.
Ok, I am really surprised at the poll. I did not expect many to love it ... but awful?!? wow. Guess tastes are different.... I loved this Episode! For me it wast better then some episodes at the end of S3. This was all so retro the lines between Dyson and Kenzi, her styling and of course the Tango! That Dance was so hot and I really enjoyed the smooth moves of Dyson and Kenzi. Although I am happy everybody is back to normal (especially Hale) It was great fun to have a look at this alternate reality. Never would have guessed that this would come so soon. Now only a Timwarp episode is missing and they got the fantasy-traingle complete (Body Swap + Alternate Reality + timwarp(?)) For me the writing was great, compared to other episodes, but I agree with some posts regarding the Monster of the week - that was not the strength neither the focus this ep. But I loved the Details - like Dyson sniffing somebody at the clubhouse.... Only thing I did not like: Laurens haircolor and Aifes comical shift from love to hate... For me it was clear that they would not resolve one issue from S3 finale, since The Wanderer would be a major player and Anna Silk just gave birth to her son before starting to shoot S4.
Honestly i don't think this has anything to do with shipping. And if you see the comments here that is not what people are talking about. I just think this is one of those episodes that are kind of awkward... So people really like it or not. And that is what we see in the results of the poll. For me it wasn't bad but as i said, as a premiere i wanted more from it, more answers and obviously i missed Bo in it (but i do understand why she wasn't in it and they had to go around that). But i did enjoyed it anyway :)
I agree with that. I actually think the love triangle does nothing for all three characters as individuals and it totally trashes Bo's character at times. It was nice to have a Kenzi and Dyson episode (and Hale cos I missed him last season). Ironically, although I am a huge Doccubus fan Dyson is actually my favourite character.
Although I want DyBo as endgame, I agree that espacially Dyson has it hard to develope in this triangle. I love seeing him with other characters and his chemistry with Kenzi is fantastic. I even love more his chemistry with Lauren. I hope to see more of them together. Would be fun to see Dyson vouch for Lauren to the others - the complete oppoiste of S1.
I am pretty sure that they won't be gone for long. This seemed more like a more daring "screentest" at people's reaction to the possibility, not to mention foreshadowing at secondary triangle, with that dance.
The worst thing about is that premiere would not have attracted new viewers which is something Lost Girl could do with. I really didn't enjoy it but mostly I'm sad that it was so poor others will turn away from it where as I will be sticking with it as despite the odd bad episodes here and there I love this show to bits/
Well, the dance was awesome, thats for sure. Ksenia Solo is a great dancer and I think she made a good job bearing this episode. Overall it was not a bad episode but it didn't feel like the real Lost Girl, you know? It was an appetizer and now we have to wait for the main meal.
First off: ARGENTINE TANGO + Dyson + Kenzi + Hale = EPIC WIN. Seriously, that was too hot and easily the best scene in the episode. I really liked the idea of the ep - the AU universe twist was unexpected and a nice touch, even though everything felt off - but that was the point. It was ironic that in Bo's absence everyone "loved" Kenzi (Dyson,Hale,Vex,even the druid was hitting on her). Usually Bo is the centre of everyone's attention. The Dyson/Kenzi/Hale scenes might've been taken from fanfics, lol. Still, I have to say I prefer Dyson/Kenzi/Hale to Dyson/Bo/Lauren. I'm so sick of the latter already. :/
What is it with shows and love triangles?!!
And yes, Anna Silk was sorely missed, it's now safe to say she's irreplaceable. :)
Liked Denzi much more than I thought I would. Overall, it was an OK episode. The "It's a Wonderful Life" trope would've worked better later in the season, with the opener addressing questions leftover from the finale in a more direct and substantial way. It was wasted here because the show couldn't use it's whole cast to good effect to join in the fun. This episode was really just self-indulgent fluff filler, neither bad, nor good instead of a season premiere. Probably won't rematch it much, except for the bit of Lauren at the end, which was interesting and fun.
I was sent a link to a Lost Girl-related forum where one member announced that she was going to vote "Awful" over and over, even if she spent all night doing it. This kind of nihilistic attitude does not help the show. Considering that it will not be broadcast in the US, Australia, and UK/Ireland until next year, it is detrimental to not only the series, but all its fans. So all those "Awful" votes we're seeing? They're probably coming from a dozen psychotic people who have no other life in which to do something else to distract themselves with. The premiere of Season Four was a good episode which I will watch again.
We know what "ship" you're referring to. It's stupid to blame everything on the few nutcases that populate it. I'm a Bo & Lauren fan and I don't attack any character in the show, nor the ships other fans create. Bo & Lauren and Bo & Tamsin have their share of fanatics and hysterics, too. All you're doing with your snarky comment is fanning hate flames.
In the finale of Season Three: who whisked away Dyson and Tamsin out of the truck in thick black smoke? Who whisked away Bo from the Dal in thick black smoke? Who do you think erased everyone's memories afterwards? If you can't put two-and-two together you should be watching another, more simplistic tv show.
Everyone knows who you are and all of us who have been lurking or participating in forums elsewhere have seen your rote comments there, too. You really are very unimaginative.
Lost Girl belongs to Canada, on Showcase, first. Syfy pays for the distribution rights. Syfy decides its own scheduling, and since Syfy follows a Winter-Summer-Fall lineup and Lost Girl was not ready for broadcast in the Fall season, it was scheduled for the Winter season which begins in January 2014. You have to keep checking the Syfy website for the announcement of what exact date in January it will start.
The "Awful" voting is being done by a dedicated handful of people who want to force it as the result. It is not being done by the majority of people who viewed the episode.
This episode was a constant tease to fanfics and it worked. I beleive the worst thing for a writer is no reaction at all. I actually like the love triangle Dyson/Lauren/Bo, only they have not been progressing it, so it gets annoying. Although I liked Dyson/Kenzi/Hale in this episode I can't imagen it as a triangle. First Dyson was bullying Hale too much or rather Hale was so awkward (funny to see, but glad its over). But I love that they picked on the strong bond between Dyson and Kenzi - it's so strong and intimate that they did not know what to make of their feelings (that is what I saw this episode).
man, I was kidding. Geez! Now I know you are overacting over a tv show. Maybe you should go out sometimes, you are too stressed. I put a " =) " and a " o/ ", I used "lol"...just to show I was trying to be friendly. Geez. I'll never reply to you here again. goodbye.
I'm not upset about the episode at all. :-) I gave it a good. If you read the comment you will see several things I liked, several things I didn't. You and PoeGy continue to be presumptuous and act like you have some insight into an emotional state that doesn't exist. That is rude. And saying it with a smile, doesn't change that. lol
Thank you! I do watch on SyFy for dates, I just didn't realize it is the same version shown first in Canada. I'll be avoiding these posts, thankyouverymuch. It's misleading that this is listed under SyFy though... it should at least clarify (Canada) in the polling. Is the site going to go through this all over again when they air in the US?
There are plenty of Bo and Dyson fans who make asses of themselves too. Its remarkable how many of them choose to look at the Lauren and Bo facebook page and comment and I am sure it works the other way too. I can't imagine any of the serious Dyson and Bo fans enjoyed seeing the Kenzi Dyson chemistry. There are plenty of crazy fae-natics (haha) in every ship. What is 'life-threatening' is your immaturity. Try a bit of peace and love people. Lost Girl would have probably died a death after series one if it wasn't for the mad shippers from each point of the love triangle.
I agree its stunted his character development a little but I think he's come out of it looking the best of the three characters. I think the writers seem to like him a lot and he is written with a great deal of respect and dignity.Lauren constantly has things suddenly thrown in from her past to shake things up which makes her character hard to read and Bo has been made to look more and more fickle. They just about get away with it by using the succubus card but even still its becoming a bit much now Tamsin has been thrown in as well. Its not far of being a love square!
I always had a soft spot for Doccubus, but I agree, Denzi worked so well together. For me it was one of the best moments, when Dyson asked Kenzi if they really wanted their memories back.
I hope the writers are going to explore that pairing. I want more Denzi. ^^
I voted "awful" and I have no idea who this person is. I thought this was one of the worst Lost Girl episodes to date. And this is coming from someone who despises the triangle and both Lauren and Dyson as characters. It just did not work for me. Different strokes for different folks.
Question, what would you think if you saw this ep right after last season's finale?. Don't get me wrong but I really liked this episode but if you are a casual viewer how would you feel? Therein lies the problem. People were waiting too see what happened since the end of the finale but got a really fun filler episode instead.
agreed. My Impression is that generally the writing of Laurens character had the bigest inconsistency. ZP is doing a great job giving her character depth, but the writing is not helping. As if they had a route for Dyson but not for Lauren and thus are trying to reinvent her each season....
The haircolor will be part of Lauren's diguise - she and Kenzi are 'enemies of the State'. Hopefully, Kenzi did not really let the Druid fool her - she is meant to be the conartist supreme and she did promise Bruce that she would be careful. Her new ability is pretty cool
Me too. I really like Dyson and Kenzi but although I think the writers are willing to have a play with it I don't think they would seriously go there for fear of alienating all the Dyson and Bo fans. I think they will keep putting hints in for Denzi though just in case they decide to make Bo and Lauren the end game of the love triangle. That way they could wrap it up with everyone being happy (cos lets be honest even the most hardened Doccubus fan surely wouldn't want Dyson to be miserable...he's such a sweetie!).
Was a great episode and gives me a lot of hope for S4 :) The Tango scene was AWESOME! I would love to see it done again with Dyson and Bo doing the Tango :)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
well, it was a crazy episode, to say at least. I expected more from the S4 premiere, since S3 finale left so many cliffhangers.
ReplyDeleteThis was the single worst season premiere I have ever watched - of any show, ever.
ReplyDeleteI mostly hated everything, but the ending there.
ReplyDeleteThe premiere was not good, not sense. But the last part was good to see Lauren and Bo.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is that this felt like a bottle ep suited for the middle of the season. There are too many questions for them not to give a few answers even without Bo (due to AS not being able to film for the first couple of weeks)

4/5
Anyone else need a cold shower from the moment Ksenia appeared in that dress? And then needed yet another one after the dance? Seriously, holy crap.
ReplyDeleteI'll wait the next episodes to see if this episode was realy awful. We need to know who took their memories and why. I expected a lot more for a season premiere, but maybe this is an important part they need for the next episodes. lets wait.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure I agree.
ReplyDeleteWas it surreal and bizarre? YOU BETCHA.
Was it bad because of that? Nope.
IT was refreshing and very different. It focused on second best actress in the show and it opened up quite literally quite a LOT of plotlines, at the same time perfectly delivering the macabre feeling of everything being "upside down" as Anna Silk said.

Stuff like Kenzi, Dyson an Hale hotly dancing together should be illegal. Oh gods.

ReplyDeletewell well well... I see Lauren's whiny voice is still there

yeah, but I would have liked this one also less if my Favorit characters were missing (which they were not).
ReplyDeletegood Kenzi and amazing Doccubus final scene!!!
ReplyDeletePretty relaxed. But thanks for the condesending input.
ReplyDeleteHonestly i don't think this has anything to do with shipping. And if you see the comments here that is not what people are talking about. ReplyDeleteI'm a Doccubus fan and I really enjoyed it so I think you're generalizing a bit there. I think most fans will have missed Bo if anything.
ReplyDeleteI agree with that. I actually think the love triangle does nothing for all three characters as individuals and it totally trashes Bo's character at times. ReplyDeleteI know there are sane doccufans, obviously :P
ReplyDeleteSadly there are a LOT Of those who are very...let's say life-threatening.
The worst thing about is that premiere would not have attracted new viewers which is something Lost Girl could do with. ReplyDeleteYou seem presumptuous and overbearing. See how it can be inappropriate and rude to judge someone you don't know without any foundation?
ReplyDeleteFirst off: ARGENTINE TANGO + Dyson + Kenzi + Hale = EPIC WIN. Seriously, that was too hot and easily the best scene in the episode.

good episode. A lots of Kenzy, and not much of Lauren - a recipe for success!
ReplyDeleteAfter this episode I want a spin-off with Kenzi as main character.
Liked Denzi much more than I thought I would. Overall, it was an OK episode. The "It's a Wonderful Life" trope would've worked better later in the season, with the opener addressing questions leftover from the finale in a more direct and substantial way. I think this was the first real Lost Girl episode - since Bo was lost ;-)
ReplyDeleteCould be, as long there is a reaction I believe the writers will be happy. No reaction is the worst thing that could happen.
ReplyDeleteI believe they will answer all these questions during season 4. I think this season will be only to answer these questions. Too much questions. =)

ReplyDeleteI hope the writers are going to explore that pairing.
ReplyDeletewow ksenia solo is briliiant dancer
ReplyDeleteNot sure, this is originally a Canadian series that SyFy has bought the rights to air. Only last season it aired at the same time.
ReplyDeleteQuestion, what would you think if you saw this ep right after last season's finale?. Don't get me wrong but I really liked this episode but if you are a casual viewer how would you feel? Therein lies the problem. People were waiting too see what happened since the end of the finale but got a really fun filler episode instead.
ReplyDeleteagreed. My Impression is that generally the writing of Laurens character had the bigest inconsistency. ZP is doing a great job giving her character depth, but the writing is not helping. As if they had a route for Dyson but not for Lauren and thus are trying to reinvent her each season....
ReplyDeletesecond best - I would say best
ReplyDeleteSyFy scheduling is terrible and i do not know why the season 3 DVD is comoing out so late :o(
ReplyDeleteThe haircolor will be part of Lauren's diguise - she and Kenzi are 'enemies of the State'. Hopefully, Kenzi did not really let the Druid fool her - she is meant to be the conartist supreme and she did promise Bruce that she would be careful. Her new ability is pretty cool
ReplyDeleteAlthough it was interesting to see the characters relate without Bo as a center... I REALLY, REALLY missed Bo !!!
ReplyDeleteMe too.
ReplyDeleteI really pissed that Rachel is not back as Tamsim
ReplyDeleteWas a great episode and gives me a lot of hope for S4 :) The Tango scene was AWESOME! I would love to see it done again with Dyson and Bo doing the Tango :)
