Who would have guessed, a year ago, that Juliette would become such a good character? She knows lots about animal habits and is great at the computer, enthusiastic about Wesen matters and is perfect in the circle of friends. It's just a shame we had to wait so long for Juliette to truly shine. And talk about cute together! That scene with Nick and Juliette poring over Wesen catalogs together was great. And I loved their visit with Pilar. Pilar is another wonderful character--someone who knows Latino tales because of her heritage, and also has some handy ESP, which works perfectly in a show like this.
I hadn't guessed who El Cucuy was until I saw the bus footage. Well played! Of course they had to let her go. How could they prove she committed the attacks without explaining that she's Wesen?
I'm so glad Nick has become open and honest with Juliette and that the "Who is 'M'"? question was dealt with immediately. I was afraid something would come up to prevent Nick from explaining, and Juliette would be jealous, and we'd have a bit of a soap opera. Fortunately, that was dealt with quickly. In fact, Juliette is kind of excited about Nick's mother being alive.
Speaking of mothers, we heard from Monroe's tonight, and I guess we'll be seeing her soon. Why didn't Monroe tell his mother about Rosalee before this? It's a son thing, I suppose. I'll bet Rosalee has told her mother all about her boyfriend. We'll find out soon.
I think the hesitation of telling the parents would be over how their families act and/or the fact that Monroe is a Blutbad and Rosalee a Fuchsbau. His family sounds more eh, traditional, and what I've got from past episodes Blutbads and Fuchsbau don't normally date.
That's what I think too, not to mention how they met and a big part of them working together is linked to a grimm/helping one...not sure how his parents are gonna react to that.
Me! I have said from the get go that the story arc and not the character is the problem. And I also predicted that the "drama" around Juliette seeing the "love you, M" would just be a set up to remind the audience of the details with Nick's mother. After all, Juliette was always very mature concerning this stuff. (Nick really owes her ten time over for being so understanding). Well played, indeed. I was so fixated on the local hot-head, they could have paraded tons of other suspects across the screen and I wouldn't even have noticed them. I certainly didn't expect the bogeyman to be female. Or old. I agree with the other commenters. Monroe's parents seem to be traditional, and I don't think that they would take kindly to a "mixed marriage". (It always irritates me when they speak of Rosalee's parents, because in the first season, it sounded like they were dead). This was a really good episode...Grimm is on a roll. Can't wait for next week.
I just LOVE Nick and Juliette's relationship. I t has been the bright point of this show since the beginning - the show denied the expectations of having "Lone angsty hero who has sexual chemistry with someone he just met" - instead the show has a well-mannered detective as the lead, with a very understanding and bright girlfriend/wife, whom he has known for years.
Instead of secrets and angst, they just act like real people would and have real and mature conversation about what happened.
Its so unparalleled in terms of narrative fiction of last few years and it just WORKS.
Some people always hated her for that, but I find it extremely refreshing what's with all the shows with angsty mistrusting new couples that start with the show. I don't think I have EVER seen it done this way in a genre show.
Also LOVED the episode storyline. Its nice to see more of "Not Wessen" side of the strange and next week seems that it might be yet another case like that. Its nice to see that they are expanding the lore and the world the show is set in in a way that feels natural.
Also loved the fact that the El Cucuy just outright got away with it due to human technicality. And that last scene with the murderer? Pure gold. I sort of wish she would return from time to time to the show, now, lol.
It wasn't as good as the last one but it was still good. Loved the dinner party with the gang discussing the wesen case as if it was the neighbor next door ahah. I also didn't see the old lady reveal coming.
"Portland police report: Suspect has been apprehended. She is a 77-year old female who kills her victims by turning herself into a vicious, dog-like monster, known in some circles as El Cucuy....." There might be a problem with that one also. Although, it is Portland.
I always defended Juliette, but I have to agree with the critics...the whole amnesia arc was too dragged out. What we get now is what should have happened during the second season.
Rosalee's dad is definitely dead. The letter about his death was dated 1984 (even though, according to "Island of Dreams," he was alive when Rosalee was 17). Her mom was the one who called about Aunt Lois's stroke. And apparently she has a sister that she's never mentioned.
i'm enjoying the show. It has improved but there are things about it that just drive me nuts that just don't make sense to me.
Why does Nick the Grimm keep letting Wesen go without so much as a warning all the time?
Hank knows he's a Grimm. Reynard does too. They all know this about each other. They're all cops. Why does Nick repeatedly let Wesen smugly say to him "you've got nothing on me you've got to let me go" Over and over again?
Can someone please explain to me what is stopping Nick from saying "Raynard turn the cameras off".... "Hank wait outside of the interrogation room and don't let anyone in" .... (to the Wesen)"who said anything about charging you with a crime or proving anything? I'm a Grimm. I'll just do what Grimms do and kill you. How about that? Now do you want to confess?"
Why does Nick repeatedly let bad or misbehaving Wesen get the better of him in this way? It doesn't make sense to me. It just makes him look like a wuss.
Because Nick is not a killer. Especially not now. It would be very odd if he would start killing Wesen without direct provocation after beating himself up about the guy he killed in trance. And in this special case...even if there had been a confession, which jury would honestly believe that a 77 year old woman killed a guy twice her size?
There are two headless Reapers that disagree with you. And I'm not saying he should actually kill the Wesen suspects that end up in the police station: I'm saying he should leverage the fact that he is a Grimm and the reputation that comes with it to frighten the misbehaving Wesen into either confessing their crimes, running them out of town getting assurances that they'll stop whatever it is they're doing.
Too many times Nick and Hank are left with "oh well... nothing we can do ...they got us".
I say screw that: He's the Grimm and they're the Wesen. Ship up or else!
I've been thinking the same. And I don't think the rest of Monroe's family are well behaved Blutbad vegetarians, so they'd probably be a bit bloodthirsty.
I agree! At first I wasn't really sure if she was right for him, but she's really growing on me! And the human/wessen dinner party in this episode was adorable !
The reapers where trying to kill him. That is something different. And he leverage the fact that he is a Grimm often enough. I am not even sure that Nick could to anything to her...she is not really a Wesen after all, but falls into the "something else" category.
Well the two Wessen are not incompatible. They are both based in the Canine family tree. So offspring could be viable. Just not normally done. The Vicious nature of the Blutbad would over run the cautious nature of the Fuchsbau.
Considering that the Verrat kills Wesen if they don't act true to their nature or marry out of their own kind, it obviously is a very big deal nevertheless, even if they are both canine. And remember the low opinion Monroe had of Fuchsbau before he meet Rosalee.
He's ALWAYS wearing one. In a recent interview, Sasha Roiz (Renard) implied that originally the captain was going to have a wife, but the idea was dropped. But they kept the ring in case they wanted to write something about it later. So I'm guessing we will eventually get an explanation.
That was fun! Oddly I enjoyed the scene with Juliette trying to wrap her head around his mother's um...life. :-) Though having Nick torture her by missing the point of her questioning (who is the woman sending 'I Love You' emails.) was kind of cruel. I would have been happier without the obnoxious marine. And the tail end felt like a scene got left on the cutting room floor.
That old lady was awesome! I've never found killers to be sympathizable, let alone fun to watch, but she's an exception. I know she's a killer, and dangerous, and whatever, but she was quite an entertaining wesen. I thought that last scene, when they caught her, to be so funny. Despite the ridiculous-sounding name, I found the El Cucuy story to be better than I thought this episode was going to be. I liked seeing that mystical spanish lady again (Pilar?). I find it interesting that she has a sense of the other-wordly things. I also really enjoyed Juliette's role in this episode. I loved that Juliette was smart enough to track down Nick's mom via the IP search, and helping him with the spanish stuff. I also liked the little scene with Monroe, Rosalee, and the "telling the parents" discussion. Looking forward to future development of that story.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteI liked how Renard saw the ultrasound. It looked like it really got to him.

El Cucuy was not defined as "wessen"
ReplyDeleteShe is in "Something else" category, just like La Llorona, that dude from the volcano and the coins.

ReplyDeleteI can't either. This show is soooo good.

ReplyDeleteGood acting on Roiz's part. It did get to him, probably because he knows it's his child and is worried about the outcome.
ReplyDeleteCaptain was wearing a wedding ring again. Just putting that out there.

ReplyDeleteI wanna see Volcanis friends appear lol be interesting to see how they deal with water.earth.wind element lol
ReplyDeleteThe dinner party has some bad editing lol

ReplyDeleteYes I was explaining the reason above that they would have problems.
ReplyDeleteYes I remember Monroe's first opinion of the proprietor of the shop before Rosalee came to take over.
ReplyDeleteAnd he no doubt knows what royal children get sold for, even if we don't. I'm guessing it's not pleasant.
