  1. Well that was fun!
It is fun when Red is more on site with Lizzie, Red's right!

"I have no interest in the cases I have no interest in!" Raymond Reddington

    Andy?
So Andy Botwin went from a little weed-dealing-in-law to terrorism?
    Huh, whodathunkit! XD

    - When I saw the swing set I knew the mercurial Red would be swinging shortly! XD

    - Red lecturing Dr.Abraham after he gave up the new identity was hilarious! XD

I did have some issue with the gate agent offering to put the deadheading pilot's luggage onto the plane. That is a major no-no at an airport and a major red flag for security. I have 3 relatives that are/ have been pilots or flight attendants and I'm not sure I can imagine any of them doing that! I know, it's a show ... "Suspension of Disbelief" and all that....

People need to remember Red is a very bad man - DANGEROUS!

I think the show has done fairly well reminding people from time to time, but no reminder was as efficient as tonight with Red Killing Lizzie's dad.

The number "042983" was the number he received from the Chinese criminal in Ep 1x03 Wujing.

I missed the name of the person, but caught that her age was 30. So if the number was a birthday the age would fit...

  2. I have a feeling it his daughter

  3. It certainly feels like his daughter to me too.
It also felt more like Lizzie could be his daughter tonight as Red talked to the man who adopted Keen.

I wonder if Red's family all went into hiding after whatever tragic event happened at the old family house?

We know Red had a family but not how many members were in it. He could have had 2 or 3 daughters. One could have been killed, one could be Lizzie or the woman he keeps looking for.

Still a bit early for me to form a solid theory I guess.

  4. I'd have to re-watch for timeline clues to be sure, but Lizzy's father said he was given the bad prognosis 3 months ago... that could line up with when Red turned himself in... meaning her terminal adoptive father could have been the proximate cause of Red's surrender... maybe... hmmmmmmm.........

  5. good episode, i feel like this Lucy is his daughter , but i would hate if Lizzie is too.. the first thing the FBI would check when they took him in would be that..i feel like Lizzie is the daughter of a friend of his involved in the "tragic event" and the friend asked Red to find someone to take care of her..

  6. I agree. I think the DNA test would have been done in the first episode!

Someone mentioned Red coudl have had the files switched or faked to hide the connection. I guess that is possible, but with a new test and both parties in person... seems unlikely to me

  7. Capped the Vicap report.

  8. I think I have a little crush on Megan Boone.

  9. This episode was just perfect. Nothing more to say.

  10. Wow, didn't expect Red killing Lizzie father.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Did you notice that the name Bradley Holland on the wall of that storage room Lizzie and Rassler inspected? Wasn't Holland also the name of Lizzie's adopted father?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Well, the twist could be that Lizzie is his wife's daughter, from a previous relationship. In that case a DNA test wouldn't reveal anything.

  13. I'm not sure that Red's killing Lizzie's father was soley a dark deed. Her father was about to do a long, drawn-out and excrutiatingly painful death, anyway, and had himself said he wished he could get it over with over more quickly (or something like that).

  14. Thanks for the photo. To me, she looks like the girl the Stewmaker killed - the one whose photo he took.

  15. I loved the episode. From the beginning of the series, there have been hints that Lizzy is Red's daughter - and when Red was talking to Tom, I almost felt that he was confirming it. However, since there have been so many hints, it feels that it would be doing the show injustice to take the obvious route. The Blacklist has been great at making things not always as they appear to be, so I can't wait until we get some answers.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I considered that too, but with the previous discussion of how Red could not let him tell Lizzie his secret it came off as darker to me.

I'm sure Red cared enough to do that regardless and can use that as his rationalization! XD

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm with you on this. I think a lot of the things Red does is controversial in that there is more than one side to it and this is one of those times.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Even though it is surely the predictable route and knowing John Eisendrath and J.R. Orci are involved (Alias), I think this is one of those cases where if they don't do it (have Red be Keen's father), his connection to Keen won't resonate as well, but like Darque mentioned elsewhere Lucy and Lizzie could be blood related.

I agree with you about the DNA though...

  19. I was never sure if Tom said Sam Mulholland or Samuel Holland honestly, but I'm not sure it is more than coincidence either way...

If it had been Sam Holland on the wall then that would be intriguing!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Doesn't matter. It's intriguing anyway :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm still hoping that in the end Red is using Lizzie to draw out her real father who is his adversary. If that were to be the case, it would still resonate no matter the actual relationship to Lizzie. Well, it would to me at least, but I'm twisted! XD

I was tying to recall, have we seen Elizabeth Keen's date of birth?
I thought we did, but cannot remember when...

I mention it because the case number of Lucy Brooks 04-29-83 is Megan Boone's date of birth! XD

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yeah I had that thought too.
However, the Stewmaker does not let victims live, right?
Lucy appears to be 13 years older than the girl in the Stewmaker photo...

I suppose it could be a second daughter or some other connection we are missing. Of course, Lucy could even be Red's adversary!

I had random thought that I dismissed pretty quick, but..
If Tom is a spy or sleeper agent maybe this Lucy is as well. I was comparing the names on Tom's passports to the aliases on Lucy's sheet, but nothing popped really.

  23. Has anyone yet given any thought to Red's wife possibly having been the one who was involved in something that led to her death and the death of one (?) of her daughters, which in return caused Red to underground and give Lizzie away to Sam Holland? That would explain why Red is going to such pains to keep the past a secret from Lizzie...because it would be too painful to her.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Could be...

Right now there are still so many options for their connection. I can think of 5 or 6 off the top of my head...
    - Red is Lizzie's father and gave her up when he went underground.
    - Red is responsible for her dad's death and is trying to make amends.
    - Red is Lizzie's uncle. Her real dad is in hiding or dead.
    - Red Is Lizzie's bio-dad's friend and her godfather trying to keep her safe.
    - Lizzie is Red's adversary's daughter. He is using her to draw out her dad.
    - Lizzie was his daughter's friend and he is looking out for her.

Then there are multiple spins on each of those theories as well...
I'm not overly concerned by their relationship just yet with so many variables.

I am more interested in finding out Red's back story...
What caused him to leave his family?
How many people were in his family?
What happened in the old Reddington house that he is trying to forget?
Who is Red's adversary and is that person connected to Red going underground or has he become Red's nemesis more recently?

I think the answers will come steadily, but not overly fast on this show. Which is how it should be. We are only a little more than a third of the way in and clues keep coming fairly regularly. Personally I love this slow build compared to a show that reveals big secrets much earlier.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I agree it could push people away from Red, but it would be so fun! XD

I guess I am ok with the idea of Red being Lizzie's father, I just do not want the show to reveal that until much, much later in the series.

I do not see the show working if it is revealed too early because it would change the entire dynamic of the show. Lizzie would know Tom is who Red says he is, the CIA would know why Red wants to work with Agent Keen, the power struggle between Lizzie and Red would end... so much of what makes the show great, of what makes the show what it is would be over.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Of course, because uncovering Red's backstory will automatically answer all those other questions. It's just that everybody has been concentrating so much on the "daddy issue" here that I got to thinking: What if they're saving mommy's story as the big surprise? I admit that this thought was probably mostly inspired by memories of Sydney's mother in Alias.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Totally agree. If that's the case, they should take their time with it! But it might good still, because it could in theory make dealing with him, depending on what he all does between now and then, much harder, because then she might feel more obligated to care, especially if Tom also becomes something she also has to compromise...

    ReplyDelete
  28. True.

I have not wondered too much about Red's wife yet, but that adds a whole new element into the story!

I can see Red's wife being into something criminal or being blackmailed leading to Red going underground.

Maybe being related to Lucy or Lizzie directly even if Red is not. Half-sisters? Child by an affair?

That too all relates back to Alias with Sidney's half-sister Nadia in the later seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well, if I thought of it, that means it's probably not going to happen, but the idea does open up all kinds of possibilities doesn't it. According to the promo, Red's adversary is a man. What could inspire such hatred between these two...a woman, perhaps?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Remember that Red called Lizzie "Molly" when she came into the room where the ladies were counterfeiting? Look at Lucy's alias...Why would Red reach for that name, of all the names he could have called Lizzie?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Another excellent episode, probably my favorite so far as it brought a lot of backstory.

The one thing that dissapoints me about this show though is Megan Boone's performances, her acting at times is very good but at others it's atrociously bad, especially when dealing with serious emotional issues.

Her reactions to the news of her father being in hospital, the seriousness of the illness and then the news he had died was seriously lacking imo, she just doesn't have the emotinal range needed to pull the role off and considering how important her role is, it's a shortcoming that really needs to be addressed.

As for the episode itself, 2 things really stuck with me.

    1. Red's conversation with and killing of Sam

    2. His conversation with Tom.

I disagree with some posts here regarding Red's killing of Sam, to me it came across differently. In the intial conversation Sam wants to tell and Red tells him he can't allow it, we also get Sam telling Red he wished he had 6 hours to live rather than six months, we also get Red praising how Sam raised Lizzie and how her strengths are because of him.

We then cut and return to Sam talking to Lizzie and thanking Red as he hand's him the phone, which leads to Red telling him that he will always be Lizzie's father and that he (red) will try to love and protect Lizzie as well as Sam had, before he smothers Sam with the pillow.

For me this is a key point, Sam accepts Red's reason for not telling Lizzie, he knows Red will look after her and he can die in peace and with less pain and suffering than he otherwise could, he gets his final phonecall and Red pretty much ends his suffering.

It comes across more as an act of love than hate and i think that's what's important.

As for the Tom and Red scene, there are so many subtle innuendo's going on and the peformances of both Spader and Ryan Eggold are pretty amazing here.

The double meaning of the conversation, the little nuances like Tom's intial reaction to Red sitting down beside (the recognition in his face when he imo realises who it is) and the little gulp he gets in his throat when Red basically threatens anyone who dares to harm Lizzie all of this before he composes himself and almost casually throws back the retort to Red's she will be fine speech with a simple but very effective "i hope your right" was amazingly well done.

There was so much potential there of where the story may be heading while at the same time enough doubt that the conversation also comes across as benign, really well written and incredibly acted, Tom really brought it in this episode and for the first time came across as someone who could be incredibly dangerous.

Again an excellent episode, from an increasingly excellent show.

  32. When I first really looked at the photo of Lucy I wondered if it is a pre-cosmetic surgery Lizzie possibly?

Go the dark espionage angle and think brainwashing and surgery... sleeper agent? Something along those lines. Maybe just someone so deep underground they are hidden from themself as well as others?

IF so, Lucy could be Red's daughter or the one he is trying to protect because he is the only one that knows Lizzie is Lucy... We have seen Red's disappear package, his new identity package, his plastic surgeon, and double agents already so maybe it is not too far fetched?

Not my favorite theory so far, but if they wanted to twist it up...

  33. Amazing episode. Megan Boone and James Spader absolutely killed it, the acting was sensational. Poor Lizzie. The ending scenes were very sad. The case was also excellent, kept me on edge of my seat ever since the first shot of the father and son running away from the plane wreckage. This show is amazing.

  34. I am thinking a child swap. Someone took Red's real baby daughter (his "adversary") for some reason, so he retaliated and took their baby daughter, but then he grew attached to the innocent child. He entrusted the child to Sam.
