Much like last year when Braquo won the top prize, the International Emmy Awards decided to give the Best Drama Series trophy to another Canal+ original series : Les revenants (The Returned).
There's no video of that ceremony that took place last night in New York, which is kind of ironic when you're celebrating television, as host John Oliver pointed out.
The Wire / Boardwalk Empire's Michael K. Williams handed the trophy to the producing team behind Les revenants : Jimmy Desmarais, Carole Scotta and Caroline Benjo, who thanked creator Fabrice Gobert (on set in the picture at the top) and Canal+ "so bold in their choices", and she thanked Sundance Channel for currently airing the show in original version with subtitles.
Chris O'Dowd won best comedy series for Moone Boy, Sean Bean won best actor for his cross-dresser role in Accused and Fernanda Montenegro won best actress for her role in Sweet Mother.
Filming of season 2 of Les revenants starts in two months, and the first season will be released in the US on DVD and Blu-ray on January 21, 2014 — season 1 finally got a Blu-ray release in France last week, almost a year after the DVD release... that's a weird strategy.
