CBS on Friday ordered a pilot of the How I Met Your Mother spin-off How I Met Your Dad.
The network is calling the buzzed-about comedy project a “kindred spirit” of the original series — only this one tells the story of a relationship from a female point of view.
CBS also notes that HIMYD will be a brand-new story with new characters (lest you think that Slutty Pumpkin was finally going to have her day in the sun.)

Oh wow. They're going to end up ordering this to series, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteUgghh. Please dont do this. Be original and have new ideas, dont recreate old ones. If you want new and good shows you can always renew Secret Circle (to all channels out there) I mean the Killing is being renewed and cancelled constantly
ReplyDeleteThis is such an incredibly bad idea...apparently they are the only kind that networks have anymore.
ReplyDeleteI like this idea! If done well, this will be incredible!
ReplyDeleteNO NO NO! If they want to do this they should just keep HIMYM around not do a spin off.
ReplyDeleteNo.
ReplyDeleteIt bothers me more than it should that it isn't called "How I Met Your Father"...
ReplyDeleteAs long as the people in it aren't carbon copies of the HIMYM-gang then I might watch it.
ReplyDeleteI'm legitimately not excited about this AT ALL. It seems like a horrible idea. Just move on, guys. No one wants to watch more of the exact same for 9 years.
ReplyDeletewhy god why
ReplyDeleteHow I Slept Around Till I Met Your Dad?
ReplyDeleteIt's either going to be fabulous or horrid. I honestly can't decide which I'd prefer.
ReplyDeleteLove HIMYM and deeply respect its showrunners, but this is so going to flop.
ReplyDeleteTo me the base of the show, a group of 20-something friends living in NY is nothing new, just look at FRIENDS.
ReplyDeleteThe tweak on the concept tweak of telling one person's story from beginning of the friends meeting to the marriage is not what made How I met Your Mother special. In fact I would argue that concept annoyed more people as time went on and the mother still was not met. What made HIMYM special, as well as FRIENDS special, was the chemistry of the characters and the cast.
Getting that magical combination of actors who live in their roles and play off one another so well is catching lightning in a bottle. That is almost always what makes or breaks a sitcom, not just the premise.
How I met Your Father (I'm sticking with it in hopes they change the title) will live or die with the casting and how the characters are written, not because of the gimmick of telling a love story in reverse.
Haha that's an apt title
ReplyDeleteOnly way to make people watch it is to air it as a cable show and put a lot of sex scenes in it. ..it'll definitely be hit then
ReplyDeleteHmm, I am glad they won't be introducing the new characters in HIMYM.
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see who they cast as the new group.
Obvious that this was going to happen. I am sure 75% of people will bitch about this, but I personally am glad and I will for sure give it a try. Don't watch it if you don't want to, it's simple!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a very bad idea! But maybe I'll try it if I have time.
ReplyDeleteThis, exactly this.
ReplyDeleteNo harm in trying
ReplyDeletei hope himym characters would make an appearance in himyd
ReplyDeleteWhy are the doing spinoffs of every possible series? It's getting annoying and uncreative.
ReplyDeleteThey won't.
ReplyDeleteAs long as it develops its own identity, I'm excited. Something like a Parks and Rec to HIMYM's The Office (same format and style, but distinct characters and new stories to tell) would be awesome.
ReplyDeleteThe "WORST NEWZ EVAR" reactions are a bit premature, no?...
THANK YOU. Have never understood why people judge shows so harshly on 3 sentence summaries.
ReplyDelete"I mean the Killing is being renewed and cancelled constantly" dat burn hahaha :D
ReplyDeleteThere's a huge harm in trying! They could spend a lot of money promoting this and then it could flop completely. It would be a waste of money that could be better spent at making brand new, creative and original series!
ReplyDeleteIt's sad, but it's true
ReplyDeleteYou don't? Because I have a single sentence for you that I judge and will never watch even if I was paid for it: Honey Boo Boo.
ReplyDeleteHa! You got me there.
ReplyDeletehahah I'm happy for the fans but seriously :D
ReplyDeleteI suspect that even when some actors/characters are decent, they're gonna try to recreate Barney (either male or female) and it will backfire, as people see the character as a rip-off of the Barney everybody loves (kind of like how Two and a Half Men tried to bring Charlie back to some extent by adding his womanizing, alcoholic, sharp-tongued daughter to the cast, who makes me cringe)
