Hourman - Drama based on DC Comics character in development at The CW

5 Nov 2013

The CW is looking to add another DC Comics character to its stable of superheroes. The network behind Arrow is now developing the script Hourman, based on characters that first appeared in 1940.

Hourman centers on a "brilliant yet troubled" pharmaceutical analyst who discovers that he can see glimpses of tragic events about to occur one hour into the future. "Determined to win back his ex-wife and son, he heroically prevents these tragedies from unfolding, finding both purpose and redemption along the way," the network says.

Dan Lin (Gangster Squad) and Jennifer Gwartz will executive produce through their Lin Pictures production company at Warner Bros. TV. Michael Caleo, who most recently executive produced NBC's short-lived Ironside adaptation, will write the script.

  2. oh crap...here we go. It's the 90s superhero overkill all over again. Remember Flash - The Series ? Or worse: Remember Night Man ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5LhB2X0cuA (I'm only 20 and already feel old)

Of course I could be very wrong with my fears but it doesen't look too well in my eyes for this genre. Soon the market will be exhausted and it'll need a second X-Men to help the genre recover

  3. Tru Calling worked for a while.

  4. For 2 seasons, I think.

  5. Better than just one I guess haha.

  6. A season and a half if I'm correct, the second one was shorted down to 6 episodes

  7. Nightman, oh wow, that's really digging at the bottom of the barrel, but then so was Mutant X. The original Flash series was actually pretty decent for the time it was made (1990) and the suit still holds up.

  8. This sounds like a bad idea. Wrong choice of action hero and the writer from the recently failed ironside. It would have to have an amazing cast to get me to give it a shot.

  9. i don't remember the name but i use to watch that when i was a kid. It was a good show, nothing incredible but an original idea and a decent way to pass the time.

I am pretty sure they have quite a good idea how, considering. Arrow or Wonder Woman - there's no difference how to introduce them in this case - take a character, stick them in an exotic location for flashbacks, train the character in flashbacks, use it in present day setting.

They simply do not want to.

  11. Not sure this idea excites me exactly.

I like the fact that the hero's ability is limited, but it feels too limited to me at first glance! If he only has an hour to change events everything have to happen within a 25 to 30 minute drive of wherever he is. Not to mention there can be little or no real preparation needed to change the outcome of the event.

To me that would limit the large majority of the events Hourman sees to being minor occurances. I can see lost pets, dogs, people cheating on partners, random street crime, violent encounters, but no real catastrophic or epic events. Well, not unless he "Groundhog Day's" it and attempts to change the same event over and over, or if smaller events fit together to one large event I guess.

I just do not see any real dramatic element to the premise.... I could be wrong of course though.

  12. I recall Early Edition and it worked as what it was, but it never held my interest. The issues he was trying to resolve were too small and there was almost no serial element.

  13. Everyone on here seems to hate the idea but when they gonna cast a talented actor all comments will change watch lol

  14. Or they are just too cheap to do it. Probably both.

  15. Besides it bit too early to know anything yet all we know is just in development lol
