Homeland -3.07 - Gerontion - Review

The seventh episode of Homeland's third season proved to be decent, but nothing more. This episode had so much potential with the extra screen time caused by the absence of any Brody family drama. It just didn't deliver. Even though nothing new happened during the mid-season episode, it still made me eager for next week's journey.

Gerontion was essentially tying up the first half of the season in a nice little bow. We witnessed last week, the terrorist responsible for the death of over 200 people, gruesomely murder his ex-wife with a broken wine bottle in front of his 2 year old grandson. Many of us would have thought: psychopath. Saul, on the other hand, has a mind of his own: asset. How can sending Javanis as a double agent be a good idea? I know we're not supposed to be on the Senator's side but, is he high?

Though, after the crappy couple of days Saul's been handed, he deserved a good day. His plan essentially worked out. He now has an American asset (his reliability is debatable) on Iranian soil. He's also finally stood up to Lockhart and had Dar take his side on his quest towards Cold War-is espionage. He also had time to humiliate the Senator, which was funny only because it was Saul. What the fuck? Loved that line. The downside to his day is, he thinks he's patching things up with his wife, but he couldn't be more wrong.

The CIA is going through great lengths to hide Javadi involvement in the homicide. Quinn isnessentially handed the short straw when he gets photographed by the neighbor's camera(paranoia much) at the crime scene. There are some things even Carrie Matthison can't magically make disappear. The detective on scene is pretty much the first one calling all the crap the Cia's pulled. Quinn's suddenly realizing the organization he's dedicated his life to may not be as good as it seems, seriously, have they ever helped a situation more than make it worst? It took this crime to make him realize this, where was his head at when he shot that kid all these weeks ago? He essentially confessed to two murders he didn't commit, maybe to buy some time, maybe to clear his conscience.


Upon getting shipped back to his home land, Carrie and Javadi (aka Master of Manipulation), had time to bond. He made her doubt her mentor; his intentions, his methods and his ability to put every body's neck on the line except his. He touched Carrie's sensitive arc, talking about Brody.For those of you who still had doubts, it's now pretty much confirmed Nicolas Brody was not behind the bombing of Langley, everything that happened thus far was leading to this revelation. Javadi bording his private jet closed the first half of this season. The episodes to come will focus on bringing Brody back in the same time zone as Carrie.
