CHI McBRIDE UPPED TO SERIES REGULAR ON “Hawaii Five-0”

CBS announced today that Chi McBride has been upped to series regular on the Friday night series, Hawaii Five-0. His character, Captain Lou Grover, was first seen in the fourth season premiere this past September, and is based on a character of the same name from the original “Hawaii Five-0” series. Captain Grover, who recently moved his family from Chicago to Oahu, heads the SWAT unit on the Island.

“Well, I know this sounds corny, but the only thing I ever wanted in my career was to be on CBS, the home of my idol Jackie Gleason,” said McBride. “I finally made it to the Tiffany Network on ‘Golden Boy,’ shooting scenes on the same stage where ‘The Honeymooners’ was filmed. CBS graciously invited me to be a member of the cast of Hawaii Five-0, and it’s been wonderful. The cast, crew and production have been so welcoming to me, and so my love affair with CBS continues.”

“After his first guest spot, we knew we had something special here with Chi playing Captain Lou Grover,” says Peter Lenkov, Executive Producer. “He just fit seamlessly into the fabric of Hawaii Five-0 and viewers are enjoying the spirited, if sometimes antagonistic, interaction between him and McGarrett. We are so thrilled to welcome Chi into our Ohana.”

Now in its fourth season, HAWAII FIVE-0 is broadcast Fridays, (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. It is a production of CBS Television Studios. Peter Lenkov, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are the executive producers.

  2. Is Scott Caan leaving the show? For spirited, if sometimes antagonistic, interaction we have Danno so what is the point of creating the same kind of relationship between McGarrett and the Captain...I hope this it is just my paranoia of not seeing enough of Scott this season and not an actual build up to them replacing him.

Nice. I like Chi McBride, he plays to his strengths as an actor. He plays a lot of great intimidating and authority character not just because of his size but because of everything he brings. Overall he provides a great counterpoint to the character of McGarrett.

He won't appear in every episode probably when 5-0 request for SWAT or some big event happening.........we should know why he left chicago for hawaii eventually

  7. I agree Nadia, for me the McGrover is like a breath of fresh air. Since Scott has other things going on it's really nice that the people at CBS and H50 are giving him the opportunity and should be commended for letting him. Maybe a little time away will give him a greater appreciation of Hawaii. Great addition of Chi McBride to the cast.

  9. I could have done without him to be honest. His screen time leaves less for the others who I much prefer to watch.

  11. I haven't payed much attention to this season bc I am not a fan of Cat and with so little Scott screen time the show is just not fun for me. That is why I was asking if Scott was leaving. Good to know that is not the case. I have nothing against Chi, I actually like him.

  14. This is going to be just fine! Chi adds so much to the mix this season. I don't think Steve and Grover will ever become friends in the way Danny and Steve are friends, but they will professionally respect each other. They is much to learn about Captain Grover ahead! Looking forward to it...and nt worried at all about whether Scott will be leaving or not. He is a driven soul and the busier he is, the happier.
